I could have sent her back...
Year 1, Day 3
Previous ChapterNext ChapterDear Diary,
Driving was a bad idea. I couldn't have known it at the time, but driving was a very bad idea.
I had decided against calling Jenny up, and decided instead that I would surprise her at her house with a big bouquet of tulips. She loves tulips. I figured that if I was going to tell her how I felt, that would be the way. But when I arrived at the florist's office, something surreal happened. I noticed some kind of strange creature just lurking in the alley to the side. Some kind of big, bright, blue rat. At the time, I didn't know what to think of it. I figured my eyes were simply playing tricks on me.
I shrugged it off, and I walked into the store. I told him I wanted a dozen tulips. He cut the flowers, and they set me back about $20. A half a week's spending money, when you factor in cost of living.
So, I left the florist, flowers in hand, and gently placed them in the passenger's seat of my car. I didn't know it at the time, but what I did then, at that very moment, would end up changing my life forever.
Driving was a bad idea.
I checked my rear-view mirrors, and I slowly backed up and on to the road. But I came to a full stop after hearing perhaps the most horrible noise imaginable. A loud, hearty BUMP. It didn't seem possible. I had checked my mirrors, there were no people behind me, and I know for a fact there were no cars behind me. The only other thing it could have been was an animal. I quickly got out of my car and ran to see what I'd hit. I'd thought it was a stray cat, or a dog. But it wasn't. At that very moment, I could swear I had lost all semblance of sanity I once had, because right there, lying on the pavement unconscious behind my car, was the one and only Rainbow Dash.
