Chapters a loud howling wind ripped through the young filly's room. but it wouldn't bug her. she wasn't asleep, nor would she be for another few hours. how could she sleep. dad was about to lower the moon right in front of her balcony. the sight was just to magnificent to sleep through. Luna couldn't understand how anyone could sleep through this most beautiful of sights. she leaned over and pulled the blanket off her bed along with a book about the moon, which made a loud thump as it hit the floor. she strained to use her magic to wrap herself in it. finally giving up she just garbed it and finished warping it around herself.
A low knock on the door startled her. she jumped her dark blue coat instantly felt like it was frozen. "Luna, are you still up, i thought i told you to go to bed young filly" the door crept open and the princess tried to hide under the blanket. "maybe if i'm quiet mommy wont find me"she whispered. she heard slow hoof steps coming near her. "Luna its me Celestial, moms still asleep she," intently the young filly threw of the blanket and jumped on her sister. she hadn't seen her big sister in months, mom said she had been of somewhere learning how to use her magic to help around the castle. even though she wasn't sure why sissy needed to, wasn't that why they have guards? she didn't care thought because her sissy was home. "oh sister can we watch the moon together dad said to pay extra close attention to it tonight" Celestia looked at Luna with a stern look that said no, but then smiled. "sure Luna lets get comfortable" but there was no need.
the top of the yellow circle peered over Luna's window. slowly the everlasting orb descended from the sky. Celestia looked at if for a second then down at Luna, but she was transfixed by it. she doubted that even her fathers voice could break Luna's trance. the moon finally hit the hills in the distance. "sissy," Celestia ran her hoof through the young and tired filly's main. "yes Luna?" "when i grow up i want to do what daddy does". Celestia instantly stood up, "Luna that's, that's going to be a long time from now, dad i going to be doing this for a very long time" she tried to hide the concern in her voice with a smile.
outside the door they heard the guards running down the hall. quickly the two princesses ran out after them. finally interning the main hall they watched there father walk in. his long black coat and even darker main soaked with sweat. and he was limping. the captain of the guard came to his side. "oblivion did you push yourself again, we told you to stop. my lady isn't going to be happy" the tall stallion looked at the small but dominating Pegasus. " yes my old friend i know, but i promessed the princess i would put on a show for her" looking up towards the stairs he stared right at his young filly. " now young Luna please come give your father a hug and, go, to, bed.
the young filly ran down the stairs as fast as she could. "daddy i saw it, i saw it daddy, it was beautiful" she jumped on her father and buried her muzzle in his main "i love you daddy. thank you so so much" the alicorn warped his wings around her. "your welcome my young filly, now go to bed" she started back to the stairs. "oh daddy i want to show you something" before anyone could say anything she opened her small wings and began to flap them as fast as she could. slowly but surly she began to float of the ground. everyone even Celestia still at the top of the stairs stared, wide eyed and amazed. "heavens my young princess how are you doing that" she finally landed on the top of the ledge at the top of the stairs. " i worked all week on it daddy just so i could show you" "well that's something we'll have to work on together after you go to bed.
the tired young filly went to step of but slipped. before she knew it she was screaming and everything was a blur. she heard her father a scream something and all the guards running, but nothing that mattered in the moment. finally she stopped. looking up she felt weird like something was holding her. then with a sudden thump she hit the floor.she looked up to see her dad holding her. " ok daddy i think i'm going to sleep now i'm done" she nuzzled up into his main again shaking. " ok my dear, lets get you to bed". waving his wing they diapered into a shadow.
Celestia leaped from the ledge. realization of the princesses return brought every stallion in the room to there knees. " princess, you have returned" Celestia didn't answer him. garbing his main she pulled him to the ground. " why didn't he do anything when she fell, he didn't know i was there to catch her" the stallion merely looked away. her question was answered by the small pool of blood where he telaported away. "is he, is he dieing" the look in her eyes mor confusion then concern. "he, he's sick your majesty he's sick" before she could continue her tantrum she was stopped by the door across the hall opening. "now i know that you did not wake me up Adrian" she stared at the captain then her eyes meet her daughters. "Celestia your home" "mother gaia" the captain bowed his head "did you rest well" the mare stood him up. "yes Adrian, now where is my husband, i need to talk to him about the moon last night" she had the tone that said she knew what he was doing.
"hes putting mistress Luna to bed my lady" slowly the gaia and her daughter began to ascend the stairs.
"so how did your studies go"
Celestia stopped. bowing her head she began concentrating her magic. the castle began to rumble with a slight tremer, but all for worth, slowly through the stained glass ceiling and windows the sun began to pear over the mountain.
the guards stared in wonder but gaia merely smirked. "good, i wont have to do this much longer."
then the two of them trotted to the young filly's room
Luna woke in her bed covered with her extravagant blankets and quilts. she lay there staring at the sun through her window. she never favored it that much it was to bright for her, but it filled her with an incredible warmness. the door crept open slowly and her mother walked in. "hear little filly, you hungry?" her mom always seamed to know when she woke up. She jumped out of the bed and gave the world a good morning shake. her main instantly falling in perfect, alignment she loved having a short main. "yes mommy, whats for breakfast"
Gaia slowly smiled. behind the door horns began to blare. the door flew open and a group of guards and her dad and sister came walking threw the door. "happy birthday Luna" they all howled like mad pony's. with all the commotion last night she forgot toda was her birthday. she starred at them puzzled. "whats wrong Luna" her father looked at her with concern. "did you forget or something"
Luna nearly nodded in response.
"hahaha, well then my young filly, i think its time for your first flying lesson" Gaia walked over and picked her up by the ruff. " um mommy what are you...umm MOMMY" everyone stared and watched as the mother of the sun and earth threw her daughter out a window. Oblivion stared at her. "what, do you think your doing" Gaia smirked. "do you really think i didn't see what happen last night, this is my house after all" Celestia, oblivion and Adrian all looked away with a look somewhere between fear for there life and shame. slowly the young alicorn came back into view of the room and landed on the window seal. " mommy that was fun and all but dont do it again" Gaia laughed and hugged her daughter. "ok dear, now" she clapped her hoofs together. "lets get something to eat shall we"
the dining hall was filled with many pony's. most Luna didn't know but some where family. she waved over at her cousin Cadence who much to her dismay was busy talking to a cute colt. Oblivion came up behind Luna and put him on his back. "hold on dear" with a single beat of his wings he was up in the air above everyone else. "attention everypony, the guest of honer has arrived. everyone cheered for the young filly as she stared at them. "daddy im scarred what do i say," "well isn't it obvious, when somepony comes to celebrate you turning seven, you say thank you" Luna jumped of her fathers back and just barley glided across the room to the top of a table(she might be able to get off the ground bu it took a lot out of her. every eye in the room fallowed her "thank you everypony, thank you so much for making this such a wonderful birthday"
the party went on for a few hours Gaia and Celestia did most of the monitoring of the younger guests. Oblivion watched the rest of the party. food drinks and entertainment had gone off splendidly. "daddy daddy, can you do me a favor" Luna stood between his legs with an entourage of other fillys. "anything my dear what do you need" she smiled and climbed up in his back. "show them how you teleport daddy" the hope on her face only matched by the smile along with it. "well, maybe, i guess, i could" and like that they where upside down on the ceiling right above Gaia. she looked up at them smiling, until a small red drop fell on her muzzle. Luna looked at her moms face curler with fear, then her dads fill with pain. quickly he teleported again.
the dark room was filled with many tapestry hanging on the walls, and a throne in the middle of the room. Luna warped in just fine but Oblivion flew in like he had been pushed through a portal. hitting the floor his crown fell off and he cried out in pain. "Luna go get your mother" He waited for her to say OK, but she wouldn't. she couldn't. she stared at his crown with a look of position."i want, to do what daddy's do" she repeated. she grew close to the crown. it began to pulse as she reached out for it. Oblivion mustered up the strength to get between the two, but it was to late. with a dark flash he was knocked unconscious.
Luna looked around finally realizing what was going on she ran as fast as her little hoofs would go. she passed many halls she had never seen before,but didn't care, following the sound of music to find mommy. "help! help! somepony help me please" but only silence would answer her, for none of the guards where at there posts. finally seeing the door to the dining hall she ran to open it. running past somepony she didn't care about she hit the door. she pulled and pulled with all her might, but to no leave. " please help mommy , anypony please help the king needs help. the pony she past walked up behind her and pulled the door open just enough for the young filly to slip in. " thank you" managed to mutter running in to the chaos. the older gentalpony walked down the hallway towards where the filly had come from
Luna flew threw the air straight at her mother. "mommy, mommy help daddy's hurt" Gaia let relief flow threw her but then quickly let the panic set back in when she saw the black crown on her head. Gaia quickly opened her wings, as did Celestia, and with a single beat flew down the hallway. Luna stood still as Adrian came up to her. "princess im hear i need you too" but she didn't finish hear what he said. instead a voice filled her head. Luna they wont reach him in time She looked around for who said it.
you need to go save him she decided to trust the voice and run back to her fathers side. "Adrian i need your help" before she could finish he had her on his back and was running down the hallway towards her family. "where to princes Luna" Luna held on for dear life. "there's an old throne room down the hall its in one of the towers in the castle" he only speed up which told her he knew where to go. and with that they took off down the dark halls of the castle
Adrian ran down the halls of the old castle.Luna holding on for dear life ignoring the clanking of his armor beneath her. "A...dri..an... what...is...go...ing...on....hererere" she tried to mangle out of her mouth but could barely understand herself. "your majesty, your father the king is sick and we need to help him quickly. no one knows how much time we have" This all came as news to Luna she diddn't understand any of this. none of this made scene to the young filly. her dad was perfectly fine before. left NOW "ADRIAN TURN LEFT" the colt did jumping of a balcony into another room. this one looked familiar, they must be getting close. The closer they got the more Luna began to get an uneasy feeling, "somethings not right" she whispered to herself waiting for the voice to tell her what to do next. looking in the windows they passed she could swear she saw some pony leaning over her shoulder, but it was probably just her imagination. your almost out of time "faster Adrian" finally Luna saw the door to the room where her father layed, but the door was bared shut. "open it, open it Adrian"
with all his force he slammed his body agents the door to no anvil."why, wont, you, open. Luna joined if to help, throwing her body agents the door. through the cracks in the old foundation they heard a scream. "Adrian hurry we need to open this" they tried and tried but it was as if it was bound by magic. "Luna, i, cant, open it" but they both kept doing so until Luna could no longer stand up. Adrian pushed her away and begin putting to much energy into it. with a few more thumps agenst the bound door, they both heard a crack. Adrian cried out in pain at his broken shoulder, but insisted on continuing. "Luna get your mother shes close, i can tell. with a nod Luna ran out the room and rounded the corner. only to she them flying right at her. using her own wings she glided back into the room and strait into the door, but it didn't even shake. Luna could here a group of guards following close behind her sister and mother. Celestia was the first to come into view. "move" she howled at the two of them. with all her magic she threw a fireball at the door. incinerating it on contact. Luna ran inside to find her dad, but it was to late. quickly the rest of them tumbled into the room. as did a group of guards. but they all stopped behind the princess.
the king layed in the old throne sunken over, not breathing. Luna was the first to react. she walked up to him slowly. "daddy, daddy, i got mommy like you said, Adrian to, daddy get up. please get up" slower than before she came and layed her hoof on his chest. silently she waited for, anything. At all. "get up dad. get up, DAD GET UP NOW" she began to pound on the fallen alicorns chest. "GET UP DAD PLEASE NO, GET UP" Tears finally began falling down her face. "DADDY NO, DON'T LEAVE ME" everyone stared at her. they couldn't bear to see her like this but where so in shock they could not move.
finally Adrian ran up and grabbed Luna. "Luna its ok baby girl, shhh its ok" he held her to his chest. fighting the need to cry as well he reached over, hoping she was just wrong. putting his hoof up to the kings neck he waited. for what seamed like an eternity the waited like that. until he gave up. "h.....he....he's,.....gone" he managed to muster out. every guard in the room fell to the ground in sadness. they might not have been on first name with the king, but he made sure EVERY PONY that worked for him knew how grateful he was for there service. the queen stood there quietly with her eyes closed.Celestia was the first to react.
"NO JUST....NO THIS CANT BE" with much speed and grace she opened her wings and flew out of the room. but it didn't matter to the young princess, nothing did. finally done fighting Adrian she held him tight not letting him go crying and crying begin for a miracle. finally Adrian couldn't take it. "please my old friend, don't leave us"
Celestia ran past all the guards and out the front of the castle. Flying off she didn't worry about anything except getting away, away from Luna, Adrian, her mother, and..... Flying as fast as she could she didn't see the weather Pegasus in front of her. Crashing into him they tumbled to the ground. "sorry your majesty I was..." he noticed the tears in her eyes. "Are you OK princess" he cocked his head to the side. She faintly nodes and took off again. However the Pegasus began to follow her. "Wait your majesty, what's wrong" she turned and with a quick beat of the wings he went down to the ground. He waited till she was out of sight, then smiled. "So that went well, looks like little Luna killed him after all. So only one more thing to do" quickly shaking his head, his body slowly shifted and changed. With a small grunt he lifted his head and marveled at his own natural ability. "My,my discord you do make one fine Guard if I do say so myself" letting out a wicked chuckle he trotted towards the castle. "Only one thing left to do" he wouldn't stop until they were gone, and little filly Luna had her wish "just like daddy right, well lets finish making it so my dear HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
Luna hardly left her room for days. Not sense her birthday. no one came to bug her either. she didn’t eat that much and she desperately needed a shower, but she just couldn’t find the strength to do anything. "Why daddy, what was wrong with you. The door crept open enough so that Adrian could bring her some dinner. "Princes you need to get cleaned up, now come on" sighing she rose and walked past him to the bathing room. the halls where as silent as the rest of the castle, no one spoke much at all. she swore she could here her mother crying but couldn’t bear to find out if she was right or not. Solemnly Luna retreated into the shower and turned on the water.
it came crashing down onto her in a light warm jet. Socking her hair she finally noticed that the kings crown was on her head still. she touched it for a sec then left it alone. its all she had left of him. Letting another lonely tear rundown her face, se jumped as the door opened, and Celestia walked in. they stared at each other for a moment. her big sister looked like she had not slept in months. "um Luna, I just, I wanted to check on you Hun are you doing ok i mean not OK, but, um" Luna turned of the water and shook out her fur and main. it wasn't until her tail poofed up that they both saw it in the mirror.
they both stared astonished even though they both knew what it was,
Luna trotted over to the mirror to make sure. Lifting her tail they both gasped. apon her flank laid a patch of now black fur and in the center a crescent moon. Luna had her cutie mark.
Hours latter Luna stood outside the chambers of the royal negotiators. once word passed in mere hours royals started showing up . none said a word to Luna, except Adrian. her came over to her and wrapped his hoof around her. "Hey my little mare of darkness, what’s up" Luna smiled up at him. "so i got my cutie mark. Apparently I did when daddy...." Luna looked down. She missed her dad. The way he looked, his smile, his deep voice, but most of all, the moon. It had not risen in several days and she felt empty inside. Finally remembering her sister there she came back too. “Died, I didn't even notice it” Adrian gave her a big hug. “So what is it” his smile could barely hide his concern.
She lifted her tail and turned so that he could see. “It’s a crescent moon” Adrian examined it for a moment. “That is so cool little filly! So what’s it for” Luna opened her mouth but then stopped, "you know I don’t know, its just there. I got it when…I …put on dads…….crown” Luna’s eyes grew wide. Even she could understand what it might mean.
Adrian picked her up and put her on his back. “you know what screw the conference lets go out for a picnic” Luna’s face lit up. Even if it was day it felt good to do something again. “Come on Celestia, you can come to” Adrian looked around the corner where the other princes stared at him in shock. “Oh…ok”
Finally outside Adrian picked an open field for them. Laying out a blanket and pulling out a box of food they sat down and ate. None of them knew what was coming soon but for calm in the storm it was a good start to face it.
After a long day Adrian stood up slowly. “hey Luna come here" the happy young filly ran up onto his back. "Luna i want you to remember something for me princess" "sure thing Adrian go ahead" remember to keep your head up little pony, no matter what happens, especially with your sister she will always be here for you. remember to smile and above all else, never give up, OK hun" Luna could swear his voice was cracking, but she didn't want to upset him. "ok adrian" he smiled and set her back down. "OK now,go ahead and get a head start we’ll be right there” smiling the young filly ran across the field. Once she was out of sight, Adrian collapsed. Celestia caught him just barley. “Celestia, I’m sorry but this is, this is the last time were going to se each other. I’m sick your majesty and your father was keeping me alive” a look of disbelief crossed her face. she couldn't say anything. "he, he used his magic to keep me alive, and now im slowly fading away" she could tell it hurt to talk. slowly standing back up he hugged her. “you are a beautiful young mare, and even if your mother wont see it you are a strong and wonderful princess, one day you’ll see that to, and you will be an inspiration for all” before she could say anything he let go and trotted off in the opposite direction of the castle. limping slowly then galloped at full speed (ignoring the fact he was practically dissolving away to get away as fast as possible. he hated that he had to do this
Tears rolled down her face again she had lost her dad twice in one week. Flying up she finally caught up with Luna. “Hey sissy what’s wrong” the young filly finally smiling again couldn't be told the truth. “Umm Adrian… its.. he, um, had to go home he’s taking a vacation for a while” she managed to smile. “oh ok that’s cool, come on I need to talk to mom about this stupid crown” she rubed her head trying to remove the black symbol, but to no anvil
They grew closer to the castle and something felt eerie. The closer they came to it the more they noticed the smoke. Finally they stopped and looked at each other. “Maybe it’s the funeral pyre” Luna shrugged it off. Finally they reached the last hill, both so tense that they couldn't take it. They bolted up the hill. "Celestia whats going on, is that the funeral pyre" gasping the taller princess grunted an answer. "No Luna that's to much smoke for just a small pyre" They got to the top only to be frozen by the sight of there home. The castle, the monument for the entire kingdom. There beautiful home was ablaze.
Luna stared out the window of the canterlot castle with her usual fake smile. she didst care for this anointing and loud city or this new and improved castle, but the one near the quiet little town was still being (renovated) as they where being told. not that it mattered she couldn't go back if she wanted to, there where o many ghosts there. she turned and nodded at a guard as he walked by. they all seemed to like her,but also still seemed to be scared of her, you'd think after ten years they'd learn.
It had been ten years sense the flames consumed there home, and sense Adrian left, and sense her father passed as well. she missed her parents, truly and deeply, but she honestly missed Adrian more. she missed his smile, the way he held her, the sound of his voice, even the look in his eyes when he saw her as a young princess, but now she wasn't so young, and she knew better. she knew he was dead but she didn't WANT to believe it. part of her still wished she would walk thought the castle gates and tell her that she needed to come home and he would get back to work.
but she knew better. she passed a mirror as she walked down the hall. compared to a filly she was not recognizable, but she often got comments on how beautiful and attractive she was becoming. she had her fathers wings, there was no denying that, she was honestly surprised they didn't radiate a black aura. er horn wasn't that long but she had grown into her magic quite well, better than anyone ever expected.her main was long and messy but she didn't care. she liked it, it made her feel free, and it stooped her from seeing the heep of walls she called a home. but that wouldn't be a problem much longer.
Celestia despite all odds had still stuck by her. she often wondered why her sister bothered to care for the ponys, but that was her choice, Luna just had to stick by it. it wasn't much of a surprise when her sister got her cutie mark, and it came out to be identical to her mothers. and then without another word on the subject Celestia began to take control of raising the sun. Luna suggested that they should leave and let everyone solve the problems on there own but now she knew that that time was past. with a smile of determination she walked towards the royal groomers.
hours latter she finally came out looking like a absolutely jaw doping dead gorgeous mare and walked towards the her sisters room. "if she can do it then i will to for all of them" a tear rolled down her face as she rounded into an empty hallway. "is hat what you think? that they'll just fall in love with you" an old but familiar pony rounded the corner. flashes of a little filly trying to open a door came to her mind. "so,your"Majesty' hows the royal life treating you, ya know seance your about to throw away the only chance for freedom you have" the pony diapered behind a pillar and reaper right behind her. "i mean we went through all that work to get everyone away, especially that grubby mut of a father" Luna began to grow tense " he had to be the hardest to kill ,but then it was easy, that mut Adrian just wandered off, and the funeral, HA, it was so easy for us to start that fire, i mean heavens just, all that untapped power," He ran his hoof under her chin only to have her smack it away. turning around another pillar, he diapered.
"you must have really wanted this spot to have killed your parents, what would your sister say if she found out, you poor thing" Luna looked he walked around on the ceiling. finally she broke her silence "who, who are you" falling onto the ground he looked at her. " oh Luna dearest lovely princess of the night, lets just say i"m someone who likes to cause chaos, my name is discord, you may have heard of me" Luna jumped away from the god of chaos. "leave, now" he merely chuckled. "i have a better idea" rushing her he shoved his hand into her mind.
she saw herself sitting in her room watching the moon "i want to do what daddy does" another flash she saw her dad siting alone as she walked up a few nights before he died "daddy can i get a hug" the old and unknowing victim held his daughter close not suspecting her of sucking the life out of his old soul even though he was just a memory Luna screamed to try and stop it, again it diapered only to be replaced with one of her mother and everyone of the guards in the old castle around the kings funeral pyre only to have the flames come to life. within seconds it had claimed everyone around the castle and all the guards, no one had made it out that night. "this one had to be my favorite, i loved hearing them scream, so you see my dear daughter of the night, i did this all for you" his deep and sick laughter filled her head.
finally it stopped she stood up to see herself in the window, the sun was going to set soon,and she needed to find her sister. she studied the crown on her head, some days she forgot she got it from her father, she could see his face proud of her, not only for what she was doing, but because they would understand how she felt right now. she slowly walked up to the castles main balcony. she waited outside the doors. she knew in her heart that what the god of chaos had said was true. even if she didn't want to believe it. she wasn't sure if she would ever tell her sister, but she knew one thing. one day, she would get revenge on discord. weather it was right or wrong, he would pay. and with that in mind she opened the door with a smile and began her new life.
