Dashfang’s cyan blue pelt blended into the sky. She smiled when she saw a fat bird bellow her. She was about to fly down and kill it, when a little blue figure killed it in her teeth. “Skypaw!” she yowled and she flew down.
She turned, and put the bird down. “What?” she asked. “I caught the bird.” She sat and started to lick her fur.
“You were downwind,” she meowed, “The bird could have smelled you!”
Skypaw rolled her eyes, and flew into the sky. Dashfang was burning with fury. She looked for her until the sun was at its peak. Dashfang hated going out looking at night. She was still afraid Setclaw was out there. She flew up to one final cloud, and she saw Skypaw.
She heard the words of Setclaw moaning in her head when she saw Skypaw. "Be careful Dashfang, I could be anywhere; keep your head high, keep your ears pricked, ‘cause I'll catch you, and then you're dead!" She flinched when she thought of Setclaw’s cold words.
Skypaw yowled up to her. “Dashfang, are you coming or not?” she asked.
Dashfang shook her head, and flew down from the cloud. She walked home, and when she got there, she started to pick out patrols. She picked Boltstripe, Soarwing, and Sentrywing to go on the dawn patrol the next day.
“Are you sure Dashfang?” asked Boltstripe with a smirk.
She shifted uncomfortably. Soarwing growled, and his eyes turned to slits. “Of course she’s sure!” he growled.
Cloudystorm squeezed out of the nursery, and she growled. “What’s going on here?” she asked. She looked at Dashfang and Boltstripe. No cat could trust the white pegacat anymore. “Go on with your patrols, Dashfang, you’re doing fine,” she meowed, encouraging Dashfang.
She turned away, and she went to the elders den to see if they needed any help. “I don’t think she should be deputy!” growled a familiar. She got a little closer, and she saw the elders debating.
“I agree,” Snowblind meowed. “She wasn't even chosen according to tradition!”
Dashfang stepped back, and stumbled into the nursery. She lifted her head, and she saw two green eyes staring at her. She stared in horror. Was that Setclaw?
Then a little kit jumped out of the leaves. Another cat jumped behind her. Then Morningdew jumped out behind them. Dashfang knew she was just fostering the kits. Setclaw had been the real mother.
She frowned when she saw Dashfang staring at the kit. “Dashfang!” she growled, and Dashfang jumped.
“I’m sorry,” she meowed, but when she saw Morningdew’s stern eyes, she shut herself up.
She sighed. “I know that she seems so much like her mother,” she meowed. “But she’s got nothing to do with Setclaw. She hardly knew her mother. Even if they aren't my real kits, I would do anything to protect these kits. They are my little things.” They then left their tails high.
Dashfang frowned, and she left the nursery. She then realized that Skypaw was not in her den. She guessed she was just hunting by herself. She shrugged, and ran into Sunstar’s den. She had just learned that Diamondkit and Silverkit were old enough to become apprentices.
Sunstar was sitting in her den, shaking. Her eyes were slits, and when Dashfang walked in she growled. “I want you to ask permission to come into my den from now on,” she growled.
“Yes, Sunstar,” she meowed. “I just wanted to tell you, Diamondkit and Silverkit are ready to be apprenticed.”
Sunstar nodded, and lay back down.
“Who will their mentors be?” Dashfang asked, and Sunstar looked up.
“Yes, right,” she meowed, and she looked back at her paws. “Y-you decide, Dashfang.” She then lay back down on her paws, and she slept.
Dashfang nodded, and left the den. She looked around. Who could mentor these two kits? She then saw Browniepaw, now called Browniefur, walking through the clearing, and she ran towards him. “Browniefur,” she meowed.
Browniefur looked up, and smiled. “Yes, what is it, Dashfang?” he asked, and he walked back towards the medicine cat den.
“Sunstar told me to decide the mentors of Silverkit and Diamondkit. Browniefur sighed, and looked at his paws.
“Well, how can I help?” he asked, and he saw Dashfang looking at him with a blank expression.
“Well, first we could check off who already has an apprentice,” she meowed. They finally came to a conclusion of Sentrywing, Lightningstorm, Soarwing, and Boltstripe.
Browniefur nodded, and sighed. “I think Lightningstorm is great for the job.” He meowed, and Dashfang shook her head. “Why not?” he asked and Dashfang looked up.
She sighed. “I guess I just want to wait for him,” she meowed, and she looked around again. “I would really like to see what Soarwing would do with his first apprentice,” she smiled, and Browniefur nodded.
Then Browniefur cut off her thoughts of the mentors. “Dashfang!” he yowled. “I’m a terrible apprentice!” His eyes teared up, and he began to cry.
Dashfang was shocked. “What are you talking about?” she asked, and she looked deep into his eyes. Fear flooded into them, and Dashfang stepped back a little.
He started to cry more, and he looked at his paws. “Well, it’s just that, I feel responsible for Applefur’s death!” he yowled.
Dashfang snapped him back into reality. “Browniefur, you know you couldn't do anything to help her. She bled to death. No berry, treatment, or supplement could help that!” she growled.
Browniefur nodded, and looked up. “I want Boltstripe to be Diamondkit’s mentor,” she meowed.
Dashfang nodded, and she was about to leap off to Sunstar when she heard an apprentice whine.
“What is it?” she asked, and she saw Cyanpaw crying.
“Skypaw has been gone all day,” she meowed. “She promised we would play together today!”
Dashfang nodded, and she looked at Threadpaw. “Why don’t you play with Threadpaw, and I’ll keep a look out for Skypaw.
She nodded, and leapt out with Threadpaw. Dashfang knew there was something happening with Skypaw, and she knew she would find out.
Dashfang ran to Sunstar’s den, and told her who she wanted as Diamondkit’s and Silverkit’s mentors. “I thought of Boltstripe as Diamondkit’s mentor and Soarwing as Silverkit’s mentor,” she meowed, and Sunstar nodded.
“We’ll hold a ceremony at dusk,” she meowed, and she curled up so she could touch her tail to her nose.
Dashfang nodded, and flew outside. She finally found the dusk patrol walking in. She had doubled the patrols so that if any one finds Setclaw, they can come back and tell her right away. She ran to them, and went to Lightningstorm, who was leading them. “We could scent Skypaw’s path at Twoleg place,” he mewed, and Dashfang nodded.
Sunstar called the clan for a meeting, and Dashfang sat on the rock next to her. “Diamondkit, Silverkit, step up here. Diamondkit and Silverkit have reached the age of six moons!” she yowled loudly. “Diamondkit, from this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Diamondpaw! Your mentor will be Boltstripe.” She stopped for a second for Boltstripe to step up. Diamondpaw looked surprised to be mentored by the cat that tried to kill her leader. “Boltstripe, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You gave excellent training to Daringtail, and you have shown yourself to be agile and alert. You will be the mentor of Diamondpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Diamondpaw,” she finished, and Boltstripe flew down to Diamondpaw.
She touched noses to her new apprentice, and Sunstar went on. “Silverkit, from this day forward you will be known as Silverpaw. Your mentor will be Soarwing. I hope Soarwing will pass down all she knows on to you.” Soarwing leapt up to her, and touched his nose to hers.
Dashfang heard the clan yowl, “Diamondpaw! Silverpaw!” repeatedly, and they heard a yowl from Strongnose.
Everyone knew he could smell trouble, but when they all turned, they just smelled a horrible Twoleg stench. Then they saw Skypaw jump out of the brambles, holding only one vole. Dashfang ran up to her, hot with embarrassments. “Skypaw,” she whispered. “What have you been doing? You smell like a kitty-pet!” she growled, not trying to sound as mean as she did.
“I was just hunting,” she meowed, and Dashfang pushed her into the apprentice den where no one was. “I was hunting! What’s wrong with that!” she growled, and Dashfang sighed.
“Look, you can’t just go out hunting without a warrior around,” she meowed. “I didn’t see you bring in that bird yesterday or this morning!” She sighed again when Skypaw just sat down, and put her tail on her face.
Dashfang walked out of her den, and started to appoint the dawn patrol. It included Boltstripe, Daringtail, Soarwing, and Lightningstorm. She finally got to get into her nest, and curled up. She thought about Applefur and Copperpelt. She finally got to sleep, and dreamed.
She looked around, and she saw Applefur. Where was Rareleaf? Then she stepped next to her, but faded. She ran to Applefur, thinking she would give her answers, but as she ran, she was stopped by Skypaw. She growled and kept running to Applefur. She was then stopped by Sunstar and Daringtail. She ran as fast as she could, but the LightningClan cats kept stopping her. She woke up, and looked around. What could the dream mean? She shook her head, and went back to sleep.
Dashfang woke again when she heard Sunstar calling her from outside the warriors den. Soarwing yawned. “Yeah, I think Sunstar needs you,” he said sarcastically. She stretched and yawned.
She ran into Sunstar’s den, and nodded to her leader. “Good morning, Dashfang,” she meowed. “I want you to go to Moonstone with me to share dreams with LunarClan.” She looked at Dashfang, and she nodded.
“Do you want anyone else to come?” asked Dashfang, and Sunstar shook her head.
“No, no,” she meowed. “Just you and me.” They ran to Spitfire for traveling herbs. Browniefur gave Dashfang hers, and Spitfire gave them to Sunstar.
The taste stuck to Dashfang’s tongue, and she knew she couldn't get it off until after the trip. Her eyes fell on Sunstar who was just getting ready to leave. Then Skypaw jumped up to them, and smiled. “Can I come too!” she yowled, and Dashfang looked at her sternly.
“No,” she meowed, and she looked at Fleetingwind. “Go with Fleetingwind, and get that bird.” She was about to leap off with Sunstar when Skypaw spoke up.
“But that things probably already rotted,” she meowed. “Just like our old leader.”
Dashfang flinched, and she looked at Skypaw. “That is enough! You are not going to the Gathering this time. You’ll have to shape up that attitude if you want to go!” she growled, and she flew after Sunstar. They finally reached BreezeClan territory where Moonstone sat. She looked around, and she could smell BreezeClan cats near. “Sunstar, are you sure you really need to talk to LunarClan?” she asked, and Sunstar turned to her sternly.
“Are you questioning your leader?” she growled, and Dashfang ducked down.
“No, but I smell Breeze. . .”
“Oh who cares,” she meowed, and she kept flying.
Dashfang felt strange that her leader didn’t listen to her. She looked around, and she saw the Everfree fading away. They saw Fourtrees, where only few trees gathered around. They turned and Sunstar jumped onto Great Rock. Dashfang heard a rustling in the leaves. She turned, and started to back away. Then Flamefur and Junebug jump out of the leaves. Dashfang was staring at them. “What are you doing in BreezeClan territory?” asked Flamefur.
“We are passing through to go to Moonstone,” growled Sunstar. “We are passing peacefully.”
“No you’re not!” growled Flamefur, and when Sunstar was about to jump down, Dashfang jumped in front of her and shook her head.
“No, Dashfang,” she meowed, and Dashfang felt a wave of fear flood her body. “We are going to fight!”
Sunstar snarled at the other cats, and Dashfang looked at her sternly. Sunstar growled a little more, but then sighed. “Fine,” she growled, and Flamefur grinned.
“We’ll escort you back to the hill,” she mewed, and she led them back towards camp.
Sunstar was about to retort back, but she just snarled, and walked behind her. Flamefur finally got them to the hill, and she smiled when she saw them walking down, tripping on rocks. Dashfang looked back, and saw the BreezeClan cats walking back. Sunstar’s eyes were dark and sad. “LunarClan is angry with us,” she meowed, and she sighed looking into the sky. The sun was about to set, and Dashfang remembered that the Gathering was tonight.
Sunstar walked into her den, but before she did, Spitfire ran up to her, and cocked her head. “What are you doing back so early?” she asked, and Sunstar dipped her head to the medicine cat.
“We were interrupted by some BreezeClan cats, and we were not able to make it to Moonstone,” she meowed, and Spitfire’s ears dropped.
She growled, and she looked at her clan. “Our leader was not able to travel to Moonstone because of BreezeClan cats!” she yowled, and the clan stared up at her in anger and confusion.
Pinkiefur spoke up. “That’s ridiculous!” she growled, and the others joined in.
Dashfang saw a little blue cat coming into the camp. It was Skypaw. Had she decided to hunt alone again? She ran towards her, and she noticed that she had not grabbed a piece of her own prey. She sniffed and smelled an awful stench of kitty-pet. She ran into the den, and she saw Skypaw lying lazily on the moss. She was on her side, and she snored as if she had been eating like a fat, lazy kitty-pet. She thought that Skypaw would be able to shape up her attitude before the Gathering. Her eyes narrowed, and she prowled over to her apprentice. “Skypaw!” she yowled and her apprentice jumped. “I’ve made up my mind, you are not going to the Gathering tonight.” She did not wait for a response. She ran out of the den, and she looked around.
All of the warriors in this camp were loyal to LightningClan, and they always followed the warrior code. Would Skypaw ever become a true warrior? She was interrupted in the middle of her thoughts when she saw Sunstar about to jump up to Castle Rock. She ran after her leader and she nodded. “Sunstar,” she meowed. Sunstar pricked her ears, and listened. “I thought that we should have so many warriors in the camp.” She looked deep into Sunstar’s eyes, and she saw fear and anger flare inside of them.
Then they softened when she nodded. She climbed up the rock, and she addressed the clan. “Tonight is the Gathering,” she yowled clearly, after all the cats had gathered under the rock. “Spitfire, Browniefur, Lightningstorm, Bluepelt, Fleetingwind, and Twistfur are coming. Sentrywing you are in charge of camp.”
Dashfang saw Daringtail, Soarwing, and Boltstripe’s eyes darken when they did not hear their names. She frowned, and she looked up at her leader. She knows what she is doing, right? She shook her head. Of course she is! Dashfang quickly set up patrols for dawn and sun-high, and she ran to Sunstar and the rest of the group. She stood next to Lightningstorm, and she smiled at him.
They finally reach Fourtrees, and Sunstar stopped for a little while. Dashfang felt a whisker over her ear and she heard Lightningstorm speak. “I don’t think Sunstar is acting like her old self,” he meowed. Dashfang nodded, and she sighed.
They finally came down, and the cats from LakeClan treated them kindly. Dashfang turned to see that see that ShadeClan seemed weak. Were they sick?
She spoke to some elders, and she smiled when she heard that LakeClan was doing well. She then heard the four leaders call them in unison. Dashfang hopped up to the rock next to the Great Rock. Lunastar spoke a little bit, and so did Ravenfur from ShadeClan. Finally Sunstar spoke.
She looked down at all the clans and she took a breath. She puffed out her chest, and she was silent for a couple of tail-twitches.
“Well, sister, are you going to speak?” growled Lunastar. She hadn't taken Bloodface’s fostering. Her eyes were cold, and Sunstar nodded briefly.
She sighed again, and she finally opened her mouth. “Our new deputy is Dashfang,” she meowed, and Dashfang smiled.
She did not want to be very boastful, but she still puffed out her chest, and let her eyes shine. Then she heard cats murmuring. Twinklelight stepped up, and she growled. “What happened to Setclaw?” she asked angrily.
Sunstar did not even look at the cat but she went on. “And Bloodface is dead!” she yowled clearly.
The clans gasped, and they asked how they died. “Where is Setclaw, Sunstar?” Lunastar repeated Twinklelight’s words.
Sunstar did not answer, and one cat finally spoke up. “How did Bloodface die?” asked a cat from ShadeClan.
Sunstar did not answer, and she shot a glance at the warrior that spoke out. Ravenfur growled. “Do not look at my clan like that!” she growled.
“Your clan?” the voice belonged to Lightningstorm.
Ravenfur didn't reply. The LightningClan cats started to argue with the ShadeClan cats, and the BreezeClan cats cut in. Then a yowled came from Bluestar. “Enough!” he growled. “Look at the moon! It is covered by clouds!” The cats looked up, and they stepped back. The leaders jumped off the Great Rock, and they led their cats back to their clans.
Dashfang woke when she felt a cat shove her aside. Her eyes widened, and her mouth opened to yawn. She then got up, and saw Cloudystorm in front of her. “Dashfang,” she meowed. “We need you outside.”
Dashfang nodded, and got up. Her eyes opened wide, and her paws stepped over each other. She was still tired from the Gathering the other night, and she could not see very well. She walked out of her den, and saw Sentrywing, Lightningstorm, and Soarwing with two other warriors with them. She could smell the strong scent of ShadeClan on them, and she noticed that one was small, and the other was much bigger.
Sunstar popped her head from her den, and she saw the cats. “What do you want?” she growled, and the little yellow pegacat duck down, and the blue, large pegacat stand straight.
His head was huge. “I am Prismfoot, and this is Shuttercloud,” he meowed, pointing his nose to his friend.
Shuttercloud raised his head, and he smiled. His eyes were bright, but they faded when he remembered what he was going to say. “ShadeClan is very sick,” he meowed, and Dashfang looked at the two, poor ShadeClan warriors. She could tell they were sick with the disease too. The both looked small and weak. Browniefur popped her head out of the medicine cat clearing, and he smiled.
“Can I help?” he asked, and Spitfire looked at her apprentice.
“No,” she growled. “You aren’t ready, and this sickness is deadly. If you caught it, the whole clan could be in trouble!” She turned her tail on her apprentice, and he frowned.
Dashfang watched him walk back into his clearing, looking back at Shuttercloud one last time. He smiled, and turned back to his den. Dashfang sighed, and her eyes were lying on the cats. Their fur was all tangled, and she feels that some cat should help them.
Finally, Shuttercloud spoke again. “We were just wondering if we could borrow some herbs from you so we can fix ourselves up. The herbs where we are are scarce, and there’s nothing left,” he meowed, looking up at Sunstar.
Sunstar shook her head. “No!” she growled, and Shuttercloud jumped back. “Go back to your clan, now!” she ordered.
The cats stepped back, and they ran out of the clan. Spitfire stepped forward when Sunstar called her name. “What sickness did they have?” she asked.
Spitfire looked at her leader, and she thought. “I’m pretty sure their disease was something carried by rats. It was never named, but it was deadly.” She looked at Sunstar, and her leader nodded.
Sunstar saw Shuttercloud’s tail at the entrance, and she sighed. “Come in, Shuttercloud,” she meowed, and he came in with Prismfoot behind him. “How did you get the sickness?” she asked, and Shuttercloud thought.
“Well, since prey is scarce, we started to eat rats from the twoleg waste place,” he meowed, and Sunstar nodded.
“Now, Dashfang, Lightningstorm, take them back to ShadeClan,” she meowed, jumping back into her den.
Dashfang nodded and she looked at Lightningstorm. They reach Lightningpath, and see some flashes of light from monsters. They watch Shuttercloud and Prismfoot leave. “I can’t believe how strict Sunstar was with them,” Lightningstorm meowed, and Dashfang nodded.
She noticed something under Lightningpath. A tunnel. “What’s this?” she asked Lightningstorm, and he walked over to the little tunnel.
“I don’t know,” he meowed, and he sniffed inside of it. “Smells like twolegs.” He looked inside, and he popped into the tunnel. Dashfang squeezed in after him, and they saw the tunnel led to the fourtrees.
“Hmm, strange,” meowed, Dashfang. “We should tell Sunstar about this.” Lightningstorm agreed, and they ran back to camp. When they finally reached the hill, Dashfang saw the clan retreating to their dens.
She ran down with Lightningstorm by her side, and she looked for Sunstar. She found her leader huddled up in her nest, and she meowed. “Come in Dashfang,” she meowed, and Dashfang walked in.
“We found a tunnel just under Lightningpath,” she meowed. She looked at her paws when Sunstar did not answer, but she just nodded.
She turned around, and jumped out of the den. Lightningstorm followed her, and she saw Skypaw squeeze out of the apprentice den. Lightningstorm caught up with Dashfang with a swift jump. “I’ll leave you two to hunt,” he meowed, licking Skypaw softly.
Dashfang nodded, and looked at her apprentice. She noticed that she seemed much fatter than any other apprentice did. She shrugged it off, and touched Skypaw with her tail. “C’mon, Skypaw,” she meowed, and her apprentice looked up. “We need to go to the training hollow.” She got to her paws, and she left the camp with Skypaw close behind.
They finally reached the training hollow, and Dashfang felt the soft grass under her paws. The whole area dipped down into a strange crater type thing. She looked at Skypaw, and smiled. “Now,” she meowed. “Why don’t you train on me?” She looked down at her apprentice.
“Do you mean, fight you?” she asked, and Dashfang nodded.
She crouched down, and began the fight. Dashfang did not get hurt at all. Skypaw was not really trying. She jumped at Dashfang, but missed. Her sheathed claws hit Dashfang in the head, and she puffed out air when Dashfang told her to stop.
“I-I think I should just hunt alone,” she meowed, still breathing heavily.
Dashfang nodded. “Of course,” she meowed, and she ran to camp. Before she got there, however, she stopped at a tree, and climbed up to the branches. She leapt from tree to tree, following Skypaw. Her wing was still healing from when she ran it into the rock trying to save Orangemist’s kits, so she could not move them. Skypaw stopped at the edge of Twoleg place.
She jumped out the fence, so Dashfang climbed up higher. She saw Skypaw’s blue fur stop at the door, and she heard her. She did not hear any words come out of her mouth, but a sharp yowl and the door opened with a twoleg picking her up. She purred at the twoleg, and she rubbed against her legs. Dashfang was shocked, and she could feel her paws slip from the tree.
She gasped when she did not feel another branch under her paws, and she looked down. Her eyes widened when she saw the ground so far away. She closed her eyes, and she pulled her up. She forced her wings to spread a little bit, and she pushed herself up with a couple of flaps. She wished she could blink out the pain, but she couldn’t. She looked down across Twoleg place, and she saw Cloud’s house close to her.
She ran down the tree, slowly, and she walked to her house. Her eyes brightened when she saw her sister on the fence, smiling at her. Cloud jumped down to her sister, and she licked Dashfang’s ear. “Hello,” she meowed, and Dashfang nodded.
“Hello, sister,” she meowed. “How are you?” Cloud sighed, but smiled.
“I’m fine,” she meowed. “The kittens have left the house, and I just got my wings clipped.”
Dashfang sighed, and licked her sister’s cheek. “It’s okay,” she meowed, and Cloud smiled. “Skypaw is doing fine in her training.” She looked up from her paws, and smiled.
Cloud smiled back, and she heard her twolegs calling her. She nodded at Dashfang and jumped down. Dashfang saw her sister crawl into the door, and rub her body against the twoleg’s leg.
Dashfang sighed, and she flew home. She saw Lightningstorm, and she padded up to him slowly. “Lightningstorm,” she meowed. “I think you should know that I saw Skypaw walk into a twoleg nest to eat food.” She looked deep into his eyes, but couldn’t read his thoughts.
“I think that Skypaw should follow her own path. Dashfang, if she would like to be a kitty-pet, then let her be a kitty-pet. There would be no other better way for her to choose her destiny,” she meowed, and Dashfang looked at her paws.
Then she saw Skypaw walk through the tunnel, and the smell of kitty-pet stung her nose. She ran over to her apprentice and snarled. “Skypaw, I saw what you did at Twoleg Place,” she growled, and Skypaw just shrugged. “Did you hear me?”
Skypaw flew over her mentor and laughed. She then started walking away again.
Dashfang was mad. “Skypaw!” she yowled padding up to her apprentice.
Skypaw didn’t stop until she reached the apprentice’s den. Dashfang shook her head, and heard mewling behind her. Soarwing ran out of the den, and he ran to Dashfang. “Cloudystorm has had her kits!” he yowled, and Dashfang smiled.
She saw Lightningstorm walk in with her when they reached the nursery. When she reached the moss bedding, Cloudystorm smiled at her. She grabbed each kit, and set them down in front of Dashfang. “This is Maudkit,” she meowed, holding a gray kit with a purple mane. “This is Inkkit.” The newborn kitten was gray with a dark gray mane. “And this is Piekit.” She lifted a purple kit with a very light gray mane.
Dashfang licked the kits manes. She looked at Cloudystorm and smiled.
The next morning, Dashfang was appointing the patrols. She saw Soarwing and Diamondpaw sitting together, and they spoke kind words. This wasn’t the Soarwing she knew from when they were apprentices. They might as well be mates, and then they would be happy forever. Dashfang smiled at the two lovers, but then she realized that Boltstripe was sitting at the top of the hill.
Dashfang thought that she chose the wrong mentor, but then remembered seeing Silverpaw and Diamondpaw play fighting. She smiled, and nodded at the two apprentices.
Dashfang started to think about Applefur and Copperpelt. She smiled when she thought about going to the LakeClan border. She ran over to it, and she finally reached Sun Rocks. She doesn’t feel the cool, moist feeling under her pads. She sniffs the ground, and smells ShadeClan. She growls, and she runs to where she could smell it. She walked under a large bramble bush, and she saw two little scraps of fur sitting, heaving their chests up and down. Dashfang saw the yellow coat of Shuttercloud and the blue of Prismfoot.
“What are you doing here!” she growled, and Shuttercloud jumped.
“B-Browniefur is taking care of us!” he meowed, and Prismfoot stepped behind him.
Dashfang then smelled her former apprentice behind her. “Is this true?” she asked.
Browniefur sighed and nodded. “I want to take care of them,” she meowed.
Dashfang sighed and nodded. She went back to the camp, and she looked around. She didn’t see Skypaw anywhere, so she figured she was eating kitty-pet slop. She ran to Lightningstorm, and she saw him talking with Cloudystorm and her new kits. “Lightningstorm,” she meowed. “I need you to come with me to look for Skypaw.”
Lightningstorm sighed, and looked deep into Dashfang’s eyes. “Oh Dashfang,” he meowed, and he put his paw on hers. “You know that if Skypaw wants to be a kitty-pet she can be.”
Dashfang shook her head. “I want her to be a warrior,” she meowed. “She will be a warrior.”
Lightningstorm nodded, and they ran towards Twoleg place. She hears mewling from Skypaw. She turned and saw the Lightningpath in front of her. She saw a monster with a twoleg coming into it. The twoleg was lifting something, and it put it in the back of the car. Dashfang saw her let something out of a little den, and it mewled. Was that a kit? No, she saw the blue paws of her apprentice. Her pink eyes glowed in the darkness. She saw Skypaw sitting in the monster, and she mewled for her life. The monster growled and ran off.

Something has gone wrong. We don't seem to have an archived copy of that chapter. The cold night air tugged at a white unicat’s pelt. She sighed, and looked down at a yellow alicat. “C’mon, Mistystar,” the unicat said to the alicat. Mistystar coughed, and looked up at the medicine cat.
“I-I don’t think I can make it,” she meowed.
The medicine cat shushed her, and grabbed her. “We’re almost there,” she meowed. They finally reached the medicine cat den, and the unicat set down the leader. She then heard murmuring outside the den. The elders and queens came out of the nursery, and the warriors lay where they were.
The unicat sighed. “I don’t think our leader will make it,” she meowed. She looked up, but the cats kept yowling.
“Doesn't she still have nine lives left!” yowled a blue queen. The other yowled in agreement, but Twinklelight was frustrated.
They asked tons upon tons of questions. The medicine cat growled. “Quiet!” she yowled. “I can’t think with all of you yowling!” Then she saw a shooting star streak across the sky.
“What is it, Twinklelight?” asked an elder. The cats gasped when Twinklelight’s fur bristled.
She shook her head, and the cats murmured. “What was it!” called a queen with her kit wrapped in her tail.
Twinklelight smiled at the cats, and meowed, “This is a great prophecy!” she yowled. “LunarClan says that ShadeClan will have a magnificent future! We will rule the forest!” The clan sighed with relief, and they were about to go back to their den when an owl swooped down behind them. They gasped, and the queens held their kits tight.
“What did that mean?” an elder asked, and he was shaking his tail.
We will pay the highest price, he said silently to LunarClan, for ShadeClan’s new dawn.
