Parallel's Path
Epilogue A - Staying Home
Previous ChapterNext ChapterParallel had decided to stay in this world. She was sad that she had to say her final goodbye to her biological parents, but true to what Princess Celestia had said, her memories of her parents, and her home world, had been erased. In Parallel's mind, she now believed that she was a native to this world. As the herd left the castle, each returning home on separate chariots, Parallel still thought about everything she had been through. She could no longer remember the fact that she came from another world, nor could she remember anything about her biological parents, and yet, she still had a subconscious feeling that there were two ponies still watching over her.
On their way home, Parallel asked Equality, now the only father she had known,
"Dad, what do I do now? I've met the stallions that I had seen in the park that day so long ago, I've remembered everything about my past, and I realized that my purpose in life is to just be myself, and be a friend to everypony in Equestria. My mission is complete, and yet I feel like my quest isn't."
"Well, Parallel, I can't tell you what to do next. I mean, I can, but only you can decide what is right for yourself. If you want to stay with me and maybe help out at the school, that would be fine, but if you'd rather continue to travel around Equestria, that's just as fine." She knew that it was entirely her decision just what she wanted to do with her life. For now, she decided to just take life as it comes, and if she were to be inspired to do something or so somewhere, she would do it.
"What about everypony else? Are they just going to go back to their lives as usual?"
"I suppose that's all they really can do. Sure, this was a big moment that everypony had to be here for, but they can't stay by your side forever. And yet, with everything you've done for them, I have a feeling a part of you will be with them for the rest of their lives." Parallel could only smile in reaction, knowing that she had influenced more ponies than most others could ever dream about.
It had been several days since Parallel completed her mission, and everypony had returned to their daily lives, as expected. Jack Bolt was back at his cabin in the White Tail Woods, continuing to work on his lumber. Island Breeze was working on his techniques at his secret surf spot. Heraldry continued to work with diligence at the Canterlot observatory. Split Mentality continued to work toward his dream of being Equestria's best flyer and vigilante justice. Corona was still going around Equestria, giving his lectures about his knowledge. Equality still worked at his humble job as teacher in Ponyville. The only difference for all of them was that Parallel continued to inspire them to succeed, even when she wasn't with them. Jack Bolt took more chances to travel the world, collecting artifacts. Island Breeze perfected the new trick he devised, called the parallel corkscrew. Heraldry discovered a new star for himself, and named it 'Parallel'. Split Mentality, who had been flying faster than ever, finally broke the sound barrier, creating a crimson ring behind him. Corona, now fearless, gave a lecture about how he was able to conquer his fear with the help of a certain friend. Equality, now with an assistant, in the form of Parallel, was able to educate some of Equestria's finest students.
Parallel's other friends from her travels also ended up with happier lives. Midnight and Rusty Sprocket's wedding day came, with Parallel being best mare, and Equality being ring bearer. The two of them decided to leave their homes in their respective countries, and move into a nice, casual home in Ponyville. Cheerilee ended up becoming the new mayor of Ponyville, after Mayor Mare stepped down. Apple Bloom was able to help her family turn Sweet Apple Acres into Equestria's leading source of apples, leaving them rich. Rocket Boost and Woodwind decided to part ways from each other, with Rocket Boost becoming an astronomer in Manehattan, and Woodwind becoming a classical musician. Melody went on to become a famous singer and actress, even starring in the lead role in the biographical film "Shot for Shot: the Life of Photo Finish".
A few years after Parallel completed her mission, she finally reached the age of adulthood, becoming a mare. Equality decided to celebrate by gathering everypony she met on her travels back together, and throwing a party for her. The stallions talked about how far their work had come, Midnight and Rusty Sprocket announced that they were expecting their first foal, Apple Bloom talked about how her family said they're going to enfranchise the Sweet Apple Acres name, Rocket Boost discussed how Manehattan's space program launched a satellite into orbit, Woodwind invited everypony to the opening of his first symphony orchestra, Melody offered everypony tickets to an early screening of her next film, and Cheerilee, or Mayor Cheerilee as she was now known, discussed how she's proposing a holiday in Parallel's name. Even Princess Celestia, who had been enjoying a period of peace in Equestria, decided to attend the party. Everypony was happy to know that the little filly that made their lives so much better was now a full-grown mare, more ready than ever to take on the world. Parallel decided that she would start her quest over again, because she realized that her travels had become her life, and her place in the world was really the world itself. She set off on a train, departing for Manehattan, and the rest of her journey is only known to her. However, rumor has it that she met two new friends, who decided to accompany her on her travels. They say they are twin ponies, one a male pegasus, and the other a female unicorn, which supposedly look like they could be related to her.
