Chapter 13: What to do? (Raw)

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

As the car pulled up and stopped, I looked around to see the same small neighborhood I'd been in this morning. Across the street was my house, next door to it was Jeremy's, and behind me was Justin's. Same old, same old. I thanked Justin and walked back to house with Twilight.

I stepped and sat down on the coach in my living room. I began to think for a moment. "If she's actually Twilight she'd get bored pretty easily around here."

"There's a shelf over there with some books you might like to read." I said pointing toward the small yet extensive book case by the TV."

She looked over to the shelf and sat down in front of it and began to read the title aloud.

"Religions and cultures of the world,"

"Cryptozoology: the world deemed fake,"

"Myths and Legends,"

"Signs and Symbols,"

"Native lore and beliefs,"

My mind raced at the last one. "Whatever you do, don't read the Wendigo article in the Algonquian section!"

"Why? Equestria has Wendigos, Why not?" She asked curiously.

"Different Wendigo... just, if you want to be able to sleep for the next forty eight hours don't read it." I warned.

"Okay, I won't read it." She said trying to calm me down.

I let out a sigh and lie down trying to think for a moment. "What If let her use the computer for that, It'd be endless and she'd read for hours on end."

Another sickening thought crept into my mind. "Hope I can figure out how to turn safe search on before she runs out of reading materials."

My eyes began to feel heavy, but I resisted sleep. For a time.

I could hear a faint revving and felt like I was shaking slightly. I began to open my eye's and looked around. I was in the back of a van or SUV wearing a dark green hoodie and it was late at night. Twilight lay next to me asleep wearing a jacket and so was who ever was riding shotgun. The driver sat, attentively focused on the rode.

He reached down and grabbed an elongated can and drank from it. He put it back and twitched his head to the side.

"What, uh what's...what's going on." I asked trying to shake off sleep.

The driver turns to me. "Wassup man, we're almost at the cabin. Eh, I just wanted to say thanks for inviting us again." It was Justin.

"Invite you. Invite you to what?" I asked confused.

"Remember? You got a call from your dad, hunting?"

"The fuck are you talking about?" I asked groggily. "I haven't talked to my dad in years."

Twilight began to stir. "Are we there yet?"

"Soon," Justin stated. "Soon."

"Shut up man, I'm trying to sleep." Jeremy said angrily.

I processed what I hear. "Dad, hunting, why would I bring Twilight?"

"So just what was it you wanted to show me?" She asked laying her head on my shoulder and somehow answering my question.

I quickly thought of what i would show her. "The trail? The lake? The view on the cliff at night?" I decided to play along and wing it for some time. "Um, you'll see."

She only smiled and went back to sleep. "What the fuck is going on?" I wondered as I tried to go back to sleep.

After stopping in the clearing in front of a cabin and getting out we were greeting by a tall, thin, man with a shaved head and a small beard.

"Hey there kiddo." He said welcoming us, arms spread out.

I ignored the hug and helped unpack the stuff we brought into the cabin.

Justin walked over to him. "Uh, hello, I'm Justin. It's nice to meet you." He said shaking his hand.

"Well it's nice to meet you too." He said smiling.

Jeremy came over and did the same. "Name's Jeremy. It's nice to meet you Mr. Mink."

"You too Jeremy. Oh, and you can call me Scott."

"Well it's nice to meet you Scott." Twilight jumped in.

"And you must be Twilight from what I've heard." He said.

"Yes," She replied happily.

"Well It's wonderful to meet you all."

"Yeah, great, now that you know him can we just get some unpacking done?" I added irritably. Carrying a box of food into the cabin. I stopped and looked around the open living room of it adorned with pelts, hides, and other trophies. "Hey Twilight! Don't come in here got it?"

"Alright!" She yelled from outside.

"Well at least she seems to trust my judgement." I muttered. I set the box down on the table near the window and went back out to see Justin and Jeremy bring back the last of it. I followed them back into the living room

"Alright, that's the last of it bro." Justin said setting it on the table with the rest of the gear and food.

"Now let's get down to the fun stuff. I want to find a bear man." Jeremy stated eagerly.

I began to laugh at that. "Ha, yeah good luck with that."

"What? You don't think I have the bolas to take on one." He asked puffing his chest out.

"Follow me." I said as I made my way to a set of stairs and walked down them into the cellar. There in the basement hung multiple drying pelts and in the corner stood a ten foot Grizzly. It stood back on it hind legs and it mouth was open in growl.

"Holy shit." Justin exclaimed at it's sight.

"Nah, he doesn't look so tough." Jeremy went on.

"You'd think so wouldn't you?" My father said out of nowhere which caused both Jeremy and Justin to jump. "When I was a little older than you boys I was out stalkin' some deer, then I came across this big guy" He went on motioning toward the bear. "I brought my rifle level to him but he knocked it out of my hands with a powerful swipe from his paw and gave me this." He said pulling back his sleeve to show off the scar running along his forearm.

I started going back up the stairs, but I could still hear him. "So I pulled out my knife and I got him right...here." I could tell he was pointing toward the bears neck since he's told that story dozens of times.

"Damn man"

I walked out the door to see Twilight waiting on the steps looking off at the trees. I sat down beside her.

"You know I grew up out here." I said looking around.

"I never would of figured."

I stood up and breathed in deeply and looked down the pathways into the forest. "Come on." I said walking toward the path.

She hurried to my side and followed. After a few minutes of minor silence she interrupted it. "So why did you kiss me after that morning?"

"I don't know, I guess I felt you cared and liked me."

"Does that mean you like me?" She asked.

"I don't know. I don't know what I feel."

"Well maybe this will change your mind." she said as she grabbed onto my arm and kissed my cheek.

Another moment of silence came and went. "You can be a bit of a hand full but yeah, I guess so." I smiled.

*Give criticism, don't just thumb down and leave. Give me a reason you don't like it.
Yes, I still want comments on these after all the progress.
