Chapter 14: Things just got interesting (Raw)

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

As we walked down the path we remained in silence for the entire trip. We began to make an uphill climb and after a few minutes of the trek we were met by a small expanse and an edge. I sat down on a rock near the edge and looked at the view of the small lake down below. Miles of open wood could be seen from up there. The air felt crisp and cold but fresh none the same.

Twilight beside me looked down the drop. "Yikes."

I laughed a bit remembering the time I actually fell down that. "When I was a kid, I tried to get a closer look and I lost my footing and fell the whole way down. You learn a lot from experience around here, but nothing can teach you what that's like."

She looked back at me with a bit of worry but was cut off when the echoing sound came from back down the path.
"BANG"

I looked at her startled expression. "Hold on." I said waiting. "BANG"

"FUCK!"

"Welp, hunting has been ended for the while." I laughed. "Everything for a quarter mile must be gone now."

"Why? What was that?" she asked uneasily.

"Give me a second."

"OH COME THE FUCK ON!"

"That's Justin." I said with a smile. I shook my head and sat back down.

Twilight sat down and went back to admiring the view. "I hope so."

Later that night, Twilight sat on the couch reading, a light next to her. I sat next to her thinking about just how I even got here.

"Was I wasted or something when I agreed to that?" I wondered.

A loud and panicked pounding came from the door.

"Who could be out here this late?" Twilight asked.

I got up and walked toward the door. "I'm more worried about why someone was out here."

*Give criticism, don't just thumb down and leave. Give me a reason you don't like it.
Yes, I still want comments on these after all the progress.

I opened the door to see a frightened man wearing dirty tattered clothes and covered in grime with dried blood down his arm. "Oh thank god! Please, you've got to help me."

"Whoa hold on. The hell is going on?" I asked looking out the door.

"Please, there's no time! My friend, he's, I don't," He kept on.

"Stay here." I said walking back toward the bedrooms. "You too." I said passing by Twilight in the living. I pounded on the doors and Jeremy, Justin and my father came out of their rooms still in their sleep wear.

"What's going on?" My father asked worriedly.

"Front door."

We walked back to the door to find it empty and him instead sitting in the living room.

"I told you to stay." I said to Twilight.

"He needed help, besides it's rude to leave gusts waiting at the door."

Jeremy stood next to me. "The hell happened to you?"

The man sat there trembling from fear and cold."M-my friends...We were stuck out there...We didn't have anything...H-he..."

"Alright hold on just a second." My father jumped in. "What were you even doing out here? An just who are you?"

"My names Mike and I was camping with my friends. We got lost and...one of my friends got hurt, he...Broke his leg. Another one of my friends, Dylan, said that he wasn't going to live and said we needed to get rid of him."

"Well then what the hell happened?" Justin asked, arms folded.

"Dylan, he started acting all scared. After some time, he was sitting in the camp. He was eating something like a...Raccoon."

A look of disgust came over the group. "These people must of really been in the shit if he was that desperate." I thought to myself.

"I went off to try to find...Something, but when I got back...My friend who had a broken leg...Was dead. He looked Like...like...a bear or something...ate him."

Another wave of disgust came over the group, though my father only looked down at him with a look of stone. Twilight held a hand to her mouth.

My father looked to me with serious eyes. I nodded without a word and walked back to his room. I stepped through the door and opened the case on the wall. Inside the case was a number of rifles and shotguns. I gathered them and a few boxes of ammunition. I carried them back to the group and set them down on the table.

"Whoa, what is all this for?" Twilight asked without getting an answer.

I pulled back the lever of a rifle and dug my hand into a box, pulling out a handful of bullets. I pushed each bullet into the rifle's compartment and felt the pinch on my thumb of the bullet clicking into place. After loading a satisfactory amount of ammo into it, I slipped on my boots and donned my hooded jacket.

"Where are you going?" Twilight asked worriedly.

"To see if there's anyone else who needs help." I said as I walked over to her. I looked down at, seriousness brimming from my expression.

She only looked down to her feet. "Please be careful."

I walked out the door into the forest. "Hold up man!"

Justin and Jeremy caught up to with their own weapons and began to follow me.

"You know we can't let you have all the fun." Jeremy stated eagerly. "Besides, he said bear and I'm in."
