Chapter 35: A hellish nightmare
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe sun slipped away and so did any chance of me staying awake. A comfortable darkness crept in and lulled me to my zone of blur and mindless fuckery. As things came into focus I could begin to see a dimly lit room. The sound of a softened but lively tune hung almost around me. I looked around to see that the only light the room held was from a few candles. I looked back in front of me to see both a table set with roses, a candle and glasses of wine. Funnily enough there were two bottles of wine sitting on ice in a stand next to the table. I could see who sat across me. A young woman with flawless light skin, lengthened navy hair and beautiful amethyst eyes. She wore both a simple and quite, appealing sleek black dress and a warm, relaxed smile. She was seated comfortably across the table looking happily at me.
I then took notice of what I had been wearing: an onyx blazer with matching slacks and a pristine white shirt with a silky crimson tie wrapped around my neck. I felt a hell of a lot cleaner than I usually did and could smell through the wine the scent of lilac from the other end of the table. She drank a white wine and I a red, hence two bottles. She grasped hers and sipped it. Her lowered eyes made her seem all the more attractive as she drank from her glass. I let a smile fill the gap on my face.
She lowered the glass and looked over to me. "This is just the best night I've ever shared with anybody."
"Yeah." I trailed off drinking in her appearance.
"Are you ready to go home?" She asked.
I snapped back into focus and nodded. We rose from our seats and meet. Her arm wrapped around mine I instinctively walked toward a door and opened it. She stepped through first and I followed suit. We walked together leaving the place into the crisp, cold night. Twi held onto my arm and the only sound to be heard was our footsteps. The street was empty of all but us.
"Think there's any way this night could be better?" I asked looking down to her as we walked.
She stopped and I stayed put with her. "Maybe." She said as she leaned forward on her and we kissed.
The kiss lasted and we continued the walk with no real destination. We passed by an alley way and she pulled we toward it. "Short cut?" She offered.
I smiled and nodded in agreement. We began walking down the space between brick buildings and occasionally stopped for another sensual kiss and kept on with the trek. Something caught my eye as we walked. something dark and quick kept shifting between random spots like a bothersome fly buzzing around.
"Wait." I said as we stopped. I looked over my shoulder, but saw nothing.
"Something wrong?"
"Uh, no. Just seeing things." I said as I shook my head.
Another step was taken before I felt a deep burning pierce through my midriff. I could taste a familiar iron that I new was blood and looked down. I could see an enormous blade jut from my stomach and drip a dark crimson from the tip. I felt the weight of my feet on the ground lessen and could see that I was being lifted upward. My feet hung down and Twilight screamed out an ear-shattering cry. I couldn't speak or move as I was tossed away and struck the wall. I dropped down onto the cold concrete and my innards slipped out. I could only watch as the dark figure held down Twilight and began to slowly sink into the ground. He held a dark, toothy grin across his pale face as he dissipated. Twilight's screams of protest and fear faded, but her last word echoed in my mind. My name.
I felt instead of anger; fear as to what could happen to Twilight. I felt helpless as the image of her in my mind was replaced by something gruesome. The words were replaced by an almost whisper from nowhere. "Well doesn't it just suck to be you right now. How's about I give you a little help? That is, with a little compensation." A short skeletal figure appeared towering above me with the same horrid smile as what had done this to me and had taken her. "C'mon, you scratch my back, I scratch yours. You help me out, I help you. You give me your soul and I get you back the one he took. Deal?"
The blood pooled around me as it looked down to meet my gaze. The thought of simply giving up was ever present, but I wasn't that kind of person. What I could manage to say was only a faint hiss. "Deal"
A light absorbed me and it all ended. I opened my eyes to the moonlight of the night sky as my heart raced. I looked to my side as Twilight affectionately held onto me. I raised my free hand to my face and wiped off the small amount of sweat.
"I'm going to have to ask Jeremy for some sleep suppressants if this shit keeps up." I said tiredly as I eased back into the zone of comfort beside Twi.
