Chapter 34: Drink and forget
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI took longer and longer swallows. I tried to take in quick breaths to keep it up, but choked as some of it hit hard. I let out cough after painful cough trying to get it out. It let up and the gasps and coughs faded in strength. I sat there on the couch taking heavy breaths. Twilight looked over to me with a troubled look.
"Wassup?" I asked looking at her.
She stared at me sadly.
"What?" I asked cocking my head back drunkenly.
"I know somethings troubling you. I don't want to see you hurt yourself over it."
"I don't care." I said waving her off.
She got up from the computer and sat down next to me. She held onto my still aching arm, though it lessened from the mix of meds and booze going through me. "Please, tell me whats wrong."
"There'sh nothing wrong with me, Okay. Jusht leave me alone."
She held tighter and hugged onto me. "Please?"
I moved my jaw from side to side bitterly. "You reeeally want to know huh? You want to know why I feel bad after I hear about cartoonsh fucking and that it'sh true?" I trailed off angrily.
She held tighter and I let all my anger out.
"You want to know why I feel bad that I watched my closhesht friend die and I couldn't do a god damn thing?" I felt a tear well up at the thought again.
She still held tight with closed eyes.
"You want to know why I feel bad that I do horrible thingsh?" I shuddered as I sobbed. I wrapped my arm around her and sobbed harder and harder into her shoulder. She held into me and I let it all out. I could feel all my anger and regret and fear let out onto her shoulder.
"It's okay." Twilight cooed. "Just let it go."
I held her and she held me. I never wanted to let go. She was the only real comfort I've had in long time. I would die before I let her go.
"I feel sho empty and broken." I groaned.
"Your fine." Twilight said with a loving voice. "Things will be better. You'll see soon enough."
I could smell the grass through her hair. I finally calmed and felt something well up inside. I felt a piece of me long gone come back. I loosened my grip and let go of her. She did so too and we shared a moment as I wiped my face with my arm. I looked into her deep purple eyes and could feel a warmth in my chest. She hugged back onto me and the warmth grew.
"I will never let anything come between ush." I said as I hugged back. "Never."
"I know."
I lowered my face down to hers and felt her soft hair on my cheek. She lifted her head and we shared a kiss. She reached over to the bottle still in my hand and took it. She raised it up to her mouth and drank from it. The swallow rivaled mine and after a few minutes we sat together drunkenly laughing and talking.
"And then, 'pomf' her wings were just up." She giggled.
"Wow. That'sh meshed up. Shtill funny ash hell." I laughed with her.
"And then Applejack just looked off and her face was as red as Big macintoch's. Rainbow Dash was so embarrassed, she hid in a cloud for days."
"Hey, ish Bigmac really that laid back and quiet?"
"When he's not mad. I heard him really mad and did he talk. I don't think anypony ever heard him say more than a few words."
"I've been really wondering about thish. Evershince that hearts and hoovesh day shit, doesh Bigmac and Cheerilee still see each other?" I asked
"I don't know myself." Twilight answered. "I think I heard Rarity once going on with Fluttershy on some gossip about her walking funnily away from sweet apple acres. I didn't really get what they meant, but they seemed to find it really interesting."
I thought it over and luaghed stupidly. "Oh I get it,"
"What? What's it mean."
"Caush he'sh Bigmac." I chuckled.
"I still don't get it." Twilight said with irritation.
"Eh forget it."
"Aw, I really wanted to know." Twilight whined.
"Calm down. Hey you want to shee shomething cool?"
"What?"
"Follow me." I stated as I walked through the kitchen.
We walked all the way through to the backyard.
"Alright, check thish." I stepped back a bit and ran toward my house. When I neared my house I jumped and my foot touched the brick. I kicked off from the spot and reached out with a grunt. I grasped the edge of the roof with my one hand and hung there. I reached up with the other and pulled myself up while using my feet to hoist my self upward. After scuffing the hell out of my soles I managed to get leverage and pulled up hitting back first onto the slate. I rolled over to my front and hung down a bit and reached down. "C'mon."
Twilight reached out and I grabbed her arm just past her wrist. I pulled her up and she kicked out at the bricks for support. She gradually rose and I switched to my knees as she started peaking over the edge. I leaned back, still pulling her up. Once she was half way over the edge I let go of her arm and leaned back over the edge and grabbed her leg. I pulled the rest of her up with a grunt and we laid there as I panted from the climb.
"You good?" I asked looking up to the glowing sky.
"Yeah, what did you want to show me?"
"That." I stated as I pointed toward the horizon.
The pink-orange glow of the setting sun. I sat up and moved to the other side of the roof, angled toward the from of the house. Twilight followed and we laid there on the roof as the sun set down for the night.
"Jusht like yeshterday." I slurred.
"Not quite." She corrected.
"Oh yeah!" I said as I got up and walked to the cooler at the far end of the roof. I opened it and dug through the the amass of ice to pull out a large clear bottle. "Hooch; check."
I sat back down with Twilight and uncorked it with my teeth. I took a sip and handed it over to Twilight. She turned it down and I took another swig before I stuck the cork back in and pounded it with my fist for good measure. Twilight let out a sigh and held onto me. I wrapped my arm around shoulders and we watched the descending sun.
"Sho what d'you think of thish plashe?" I asked.
"I really like it here." She answered. "You've shown me some things I've never thought of seeing; good and bad. I think I could stay here for a long time."
I smiled at that and nodded my head. "Cool."
