Chapter 40: Stroke of luck

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

I plummeted like a rock straight down to the awaiting ground.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"

My eyes shot open just as I was about to hit the ground. I jumped from my spot to a sitting position. "Ah!"

Twice that day I had startled Twilight like that now. She looked up to me from the book she was reading with widened eyes. I breathed heavily looking over to her. I calmed a bit and pushed back into my laying position, shaking the couch. I rubbed my hands along my face trying clear my head. "Why won't it stop?"

I could feel Twilight taking a seat beside me. I lowered my hands and looked up to her. Even though she wore a concerned look, she still held that warm smile. I let out a breath and really calmed.

"Another one?" She asked.

"Yeah."

"Could y-"

"No," I cut her off. "I won't."

"Why not?" She asked.

"I can't."

"Please, can you try?"

"No Twilight, I'm not telling you." I looked away

"It couldn't have-"

"Yes Twilight, it was that bad." I cut her off again.

She placed her hand on my cheek and move my face to look back at her. I could see the trust and faith in her eyes.

"I'm still not telling you." I said with a light-hearted smile.

"Fine." She said rolling her eyes.

"So what do you feel like doing?" I asked.

"I don't know. I might take you up on that library offer." She said looked back down at me.

"Alright," I grabbed onto her arm and pulled her down on top of me and kissed her.

"Easy there." She said propping herself up.

"Yeah, yeah."

"Oh, that reminds me. Your friend stopped by and left this for you." She said reaching down to where the bottles of beer and aspirin still sat.

She pulled up a small piece of folded paper and I took it. "A note?"

"Don't know. It's not like I'd invade your privacy like that."

I unfolded the note and read.

Listen Bro,

I'm sorry for all the shit we put you through. I was a real douche and I want to try to make it up to you.

I finished with your bike, so you can just ask and I'll let you grab it.

~Justin

PS - I left you something special in the map compartment.

Just in case.

I tossed the note toward the bottles and looked back to Twilight. "I guess we have a stroke of luck."

She gave a curious face and hopped off. I sat up and stood next to her.

"Go wait outside. I'll be there in a sec. 'Kay?" I asked walking down the hallway.

"Okay." I heard her answer back.

I walked past the bathroom and into my room. I stepped over to the side table and opened the drawer. I grabbed a pair of tinted goggles and closed the drawer. I walked back down the hall and out the door to see Twilight waiting. We crossed the street and I knocked on Justin's door. Nothing.

"Just like last time." I said smiling at Twilight.

She nodded and I walked around the house, leaving her on the porch. I opened the door to the garage, but he wasn't in there either. I saw my bike resting on it's kickstand and opened the garage door. I kicked up the stand and wheeled it outside. I closed the garage door and hopped on. The key was in the ignition and I turned it. The engine came alive and I steadily twisted the gas handle and pulled down the driveway.

"Ready to go?" I asked Twilight.

She nodded and I strapped the goggles to my face. "Then get on and let's go"

I left you something in the map compartment,

As Twilight sat down behind me I opened it and reached in to feel something small and rubbery. I pulled it out to see a small rubber disc wrapped in plastic.

Just in case.

I smiled at it. "You fucking asshole."

Twilight only looked at it curiously. "Hey, it's another one of those things. What's it for anyway?" She asked innocently.

"I'll tell you later." I said handing it to her. "You hold onto it, I'd probably lose it."

"Okay." She said curiously looking it over.

"Hold on." I called back.

I revved the gas and sped out the driveway, scarring her. She latched onto me and I felt content with her holding on. I sped on down the road, enjoying her and finally getting my bike back.
