They Can't Take What's Ours (Re-Write by Rainb0w_Dash)
Ch 1: Conflicting Feelings
Load Full StoryNext ChapterTwilight had started are her parents for quite some time. The funeral service had ended a short while ago. She was the only pony that was still there. Everypony else had left. Twilight told her friends that she was going to be alone and only with herself for a few days. She just did not understand. How in all of Equestria did her parents die? She remembered that morning.
She had just finished her breakfast, talking to Spike,
“Well Spike, I think this is the day that things are starting to finally look up,” Twilight smiled as she levitated the plates off of the table into the kitchen sink.
“What do you mean by that?” Spike asked.
“That me and my friends are going to finally have a day out together to have some fun!” Twilight was already imagining the day’s events, thinking of all the possibilities that were in store with all her wonderful friends. Organizing all of her thoughts in a sort of structured list, her thoughts were suddenly disrupted by a burp and a flash of green fire.
A scroll had come from her assistant, obviously from Celestia. She levitated it with her magic, unraveled it and read what it said:
Dear Twilight,
Come to Canterlot as soon as possible. There has been a terrible accident with Mom and Dad.
Your BBBFF,
Shining Armor
Staring blankly into the hastily written letter she froze, thoughts blazing through her mind faster than the speed of light.
What could it be? She silently thought to herself, trying to keep steady. Think positives Twi. It can’t be too serious. I mean your parents can’t be de-..
Still levitating the letter in front of her face, obviously lost in her thoughts, Spike had quickly snapped his fingers in front of Twilight.
“Uhh-huh..What?” Twilight was snapped out of her trance.
“You were just sitting there. It was starting to get a little creepy..” The small dragon replied. “Anyways, what did the letter say?”
Out of her total disorientation with anything in the world she quickly cleared her mind of every negative thought of what was going on.
“We must go to Canterlot immediately!” Twilight quickly ran upstairs to get her things ready.
“Hey sorry Pinkie, but I have to go. Its an emergency.” She could tell Pinkie was not happy with Twilight’s decision of leaving for a while.
“Aww, come on!” Pinkie protested. She had been planning many fun things to do during the day, but they were now all in vain because Twilight could not show up to any of them.
“It’s okay Pinkie. It won’t be long, I promise you. It should only be a day or two till I’ll be back.” Twilight saw her eyes light up again with a joy that only the pink earth pony could ever achieve.
“Oki doki loki!” Twilight watched as her pink friend disappeared around into the kitchen of Sugarcube Corner.
Relieved to find that after she told all her friends, they had understood completely that she would be back in only a few days, she could happily plan on all their events so they could finally have the day to just relax, chat and just hang out like they used to do. Twilight had been looking forward to days like these ever since she had made friends just as wonderful as hers.
The train rushed past the mountains, through tunnels and valleys before finally making its way up to the city of Canterlot by the late afternoon. Since she had lived in this city since she was a filly, finding her destination proved no difficult task: she knew the way to the castle by heart. She knew the exact location of where her home was located, the park where she had played with her foalsitter, Cadance, and many other locations that would have brought a wave of nostalgia back to the purple unicorn.
She had not come to visit this city though, for the places that she had been and made a B-line straight to the royal castle.
Walking in she saw Shining Armor, Cadance and Princess Celestia sitting in the royal hall.
Celestia saw Twilight walk in.
“Twilight, I’m glad you’re finally here.”
Her brother didn’t look too well. She had seen him leaning against his beloved wife, who he’d been happily married for over a year now. He slowly looked up. It was obvious that he had been crying. But this did not look like any type of “Liquid Pride”, this seemed to be the exact opposite of what that word meant. He took a quick glance at Twilight and quickly buried his muzzle and face back into Cadance’s flank. He did not want anypony to look at him in this sort of state, but he just could not help it. He had been slowly eaten away from this accident.
“Twilight, the reason I called you in today is to tell you that.. Well..” Celestia was about to explain what happened when Shining blurted out,
“They’re dead Twily! Gone! It’s..” Shining sniffles, “It’s over. I never even got to say any goodbyes or anything.” He looked back at the damp area that covered Cadance’s flank. She had been silent. You could see the pain that she was feeling from whole experience in her eyes. The loss and tragedy that had struck his only love. She also knew that her husband will probably never be the same again. She bowed her head in a depressing manner as a sign as Shining fell into her flank, bawling his eyes out.
This is what it had come to. Twilight was now parentless. The fact hit her like a train. She stood there, motionless, trying to take in what had just been told to her.
M-my parents are d-dead? Once again, she was lost in her thoughts, thinking of what to possibly make of this whole situation. The memories of all the times that she had spent with her own parents were coming back to her now. Every waking second that passed for her seemed as that of an eternity. She stood there motionless, slowly and heavily breathing. The only sound that could be heard in the castle was Shining’s crying and sobbing.
Her friends all stood next to her. Twilight was still. More still than undisturbed water in a lake, solemnly staring down at the dead bodies of her deceased parents. The coroner said that they had both died of natural causes. It was an odd sight to see though, seeing as they were both incredibly healthy ponies, living a healthy lifestyle and all.
Her friends had given their condolences. The funeral had been long. Reading the parents’ will was hard to listen to. Twilight had been given the deed to their own house. She wondered if she should just move back to Canterlot. It was obvious that this was a life changing experience for her, but the fact that she didn’t even have the will to move on anymore was giving her a hard time.
During most of the funeral, many ponies, mostly family friends, had come to grieve the loss of Twilight’s parents. But during the entire time, Twilight did not even utter a single word. Her mind had become a sort of blank slate that automatically erased anything that was trying to be written onto it. She was contemplating many things about herself. She was deeply saddened by the fact that could not have spent more time with her parents.
The more time you would’ve spent with them, the better everything would have turned out. These words kept repeating in her mind. She even occasionally said it under her breath.
Slowly the many ponies slowly started to file out of the funeral home. The crowd had become smaller and smaller. Her friends were the last ones to leave. As they left, none of them uttered a word as Twilight was standing still next to the coffins of her parents.
Twilight had stared at her parents for quite some time. Not even thinking. Her mind was just replaying the many endless memories they had had. Which were barely any to remember. Back when she was a filly, her parents had always been going out, as to not have any time for her she had basically grown up with her foalsitter, Cadance.
“Ah know how it feels like Sugarcube.” A voice suddenly spoke to her.
Twilight did not even move a muscle. Her eyes were still trained upon her parents.
“Look. Ah can help ya if ya want to get over this sorta thing, ah know exactly how you’re feelin’ Sugarcube. This same thing has happened to me before. A bit painful ta watch too.” Applejack reminisced at the sight of Twilight’s parents, remembering all too well the sight of hers. The tears that she had shed, the hat, many ponies crying, especially Twilight’s brother. It was all too similar. It hurt her. It was extremely painful to watch as the funeral had gone.
Applejack stared at Twilight. She stared into her eyes. Those soulless eyes; Applejack could not read any emotion from them. It was almost as if Twilight was trying to process what was just said to her.
Twilight slowly turned her head towards Applejack and whispered something that could barely be heard.
“Ah’m really sorry Twi, but can ya speak up just a little bit?”
There was a moment’s pause. Twilight still whispered. It was slightly louder, but still inaudible.
“Just a liiiiitle bit louder Sugarcube.” Applejack was trying to be polite as she possibly could.
“I..” Her voice was now able to be heard by Applejack, “I-I want, help.”
It was obvious that Twilight did not sound like her normal self at all. She had barely uttered more than a few words in the last few days. Her friends had stayed with her through the entire time. Mostly keeping her company, they all had seen what this tragedy did to their friend and they were worried that if Twilight would not even consider to communicate with anypony even her own friends, then that means she would literally be out of it. The worst part of all was that if she had lost all interest in life altogether, then her Element of Harmony would not work and they would have no protection for Equestria.
Applejack watched Twilight slowly tear up, she had been holding in the sadness for far too long. Forcing it to be bottled up until it would reach to a critical point and she would just explode. Forcing all her tears and sadness out onto Applejack, she couldn’t help herself and cried with her. She was reliving the moments of her own parents’ funeral with much sadness and despair as well.
Twilight had grown fond of Applejack within the last few months. Ever since the weeks after the funeral, she had been slowly walking the road to recovery. She was definitely acting much more sanely than she was at the funeral. Her “quiet” phase had only lasted a few short days. But she could not thank Applejack enough for helping her recover mentally and emotionally. Many of her friends were happy as well to see Twilight happier than she was before.
Applejack and Twilight spent a lot of time with each other. Mostly bonding more and more as friends, but also talking about each other’s problems and serious things that have happened to them.
Since it was Twilight’s time of need, Applejack had been there 100% of the way. Always keeping her comfort when she was sad or heartbroken, keeping her company almost all the time. They would even sleep together sometimes. Twilight snuggling against Applejack and softly hugging her, like a stuffed toy. Feeling the warm of her fur against hers, her mind had gotten used to this sort of interaction between the two of them. Until one night, Twilight finally came out to her.
Twilight was sitting in her bed, staring directly at her golden friend for quite a while now. She had started to have feelings about her. She did not want to address it the first few times she had thought about it, but it soon became too much for her. She finally was ready to just give the truth to Applejack.
“Applejack? I’ve been meaning to tell you something.” The gold mare looked up for her spot on the floor where she had been sitting.
“Ya? What is it Subgarcube? Is something wrong?”
“No, nothing’s wrong. I just have something that I’ve been meaning to tell you for quite sometime.”
“What is it?”
“Promise you won’t get mad at me or anything?”
“Now why is the hay would I get mad ya ‘fer?”
“Okay okay okay. I’ve just sort of..” Twilight paused, thinking one last time about the decision she was about to make, that could possibly jeopardize her friendship with Applejack. “I.. uhm. I-I I love you Applejack.” There. She said it. She had gotten enough guts to actually say this to the one had taken care for her all these months. She could also tell that she was blushing.
Her mind went totally blank. Only focusing and waiting for a response from her friend.
Applejack paused. Not sure what to think of. Not even sure of what to do or say. Her mind had to think of a response quickly. Does this mare actually love me? Applejack was thinking, thinking hard of what to do. What to say. She had to make a response quick. But the questions in her mind were too many. Until, she said it.
“Why.” She said it in a low, stern voice. As if she was a mother talking to her child.
“I- um. I’m sorry Applejack. I didn’t mean it. I just-“ Twilight was cut off by Applejack’s response,
“Ahh no! Ya don’t hafta be sorry ‘bout it. If ya love me, Ah’m okay with that. Just, make sure it stays a secret. Keep it only between you and me.” Applejack was blushing.
Twilight stood there for a second. She finally took in what Applejack had said to her. Twilight looked around jokingly for anypony watching them both and walked up slowly to Applejack and hugged her.
“Thanks for helping me through all these months.” Twilight said. Before Applejack could answer her Twilight kissed Applejack on the lips. Both of them blushing a bright red it was all so captivating for Applejack. She stood there and took it.
Closing her eyes, she felt the lips of her new marefriend locking lips with her, feeling the warmth of her tongue filling her mouth. In which she did the followed. They stood there, interlocked with each other for minutes. But those minutes seemed like an eternity for Twilight. She never wanted to let go of Applejack. She was too grateful of her and wanted to repay the favor.
After their affectionate kiss, a string of saliva, hanging between the two mares’ mouths, They both made their way to Twilight’s bed, having finally come to the conclusion that they had both loved each other and definitely had a spark between them, they both got into bed.
Twilight had the most romantic night with Applejack. She loved every second she spent with her. Every second she spent with her.
Loving had almost become a way of life between the two mares now. Both of them had their fun around a few times a week now. Applejack was staying with Twilight almost all the time now. Never wanting to leave her side for anything that would happen that could possibly cut their relationship in two. But the most important thing of all, was that every single one of their friends had been oblivious to the Purple Unicorn and Golden Earth Ponies relationship with each other. Since they both did not really show much affection towards each other out in public. But behind closed doors, what they did would have probably disturbed their friends.
