A Fresh Start and a New Love

Morning was here, slowly opening his eyes; Thunder could see the sun shining through the windows. Groaning as he dropped off the couch, he looked around the room sleepily. “Oh yeah, I’m still in Rainbow Dash’s house.” Wandering around, wondering what to do, he decided he would go into Dash’s room to see if she was awake, passing a clock he saw that it was 7:00am, “Wow, that’s early for going to bed at like 3:00.” Wondering why he wasn’t tired, he continued towards Dash’s room, coming to her room he peeked in, seeing Rainbow Dash in her bed, sleeping soundly with a smile on her face. He blushed a little bit, thinking to himself, “She’s just some pegasus who’s letting you stay in her house, there’s no reason to be afraid to talk her, you talk to plenty of fillies before, some who are real lookers. None of them are as good looking as her, that’s for sure” blushing wildly, as he backs away. Thunder moves into the kitchen and sees a schedule on the fridge, “Oh pony feathers! Rainbow Dash has to bring in a storm in a half an hour!” remembering that she was still asleep, Thunder grabbed his goggles and shot out the nearest window towards Twilight’s house. “Twilight! Twilight! Are you up?” Thunder shouted.

“Yes Thunder what do you need? I’m in the middle of making my morning checklist of things I need to put on my checklist of things to do today.”

“Uhmm what?!? Never mind Dash is still asleep and there’s a storm due in half an hour, I’m going to help her out, where’s the main office for the weather pegasi?” Thunder asked hurriedly

“There is none, Rainbow Dash takes care of all of the weather around hear except for the major storms that Cloudsdale would send it, all of it on her schedule.” Twilight said smiling at your offer of help.

“Oh, all by myself? Hmm I kind of like the sound of that.” Thunder said tapping his chin with his hoof and smiling devilishly.

“My copy of the weather schedule says just some clouds and a bit of rain. Make sure you don’t overdo it, ok?”

“Alright Twilight, thanks for the help!” Thunder said putting his goggles on his eyes and speeding away into the sky.

“Alright, time to get some clouds and start some rain.” Thunder said to himself as he flew off into the distance.
As time passed, the clouds accumulated and eventually there was a full-fledged storm over Ponyville with rain pouring and wind blowing. As Thunder flew past Twilight’s house he saw her poke her head out the window, mane blowing violently in the wind. “Nice job Thunder! This storm is fantastic, you should probably go check on Rainbow!” Twilight shouted

“Will do Twilight! I’m heading there now.” Thunder said saluting and flying home as fast as he could, hoping Dash was still asleep. When he got home he flew in through the window and closed all the windows to prevent the rain from getting in. He trotted over to Dash’s room and peeked in the door, seeing she was still asleep. Thunder boomed and Dash shot out of her bed and screamed “Oh crap! I have to make a storm that covers the whole town and it’s already 9:00am! What do I do? What do I do?”

“You can calm down and listen that’s one thing” Thunder said pushing her door open and walking into her room, she looked at him in surprise while listening to the patter of rain and the sound of wind around her house.

“There’s already a storm? But who? And when did? Did you do this?” Rainbow said very confused and still probably half asleep.

“Yeah, I kinda peeked in your room when I got up and saw you were sleeping there so peacefully, and I did wake you up when I came here from Cloudsdale.” Thunder said, a little embarrassed, “So I decided that I would take matters in to my own hands and put my specialty to work and I made this big storm here for you”

“You did 2 hours of all of this just so I could sleep in? Why didn’t you wake me up to do it.” Rainbow said really confused, yet relieved that she didn’t have to do it herself, she was dreading having to get up that early.

“What kind of a stallion would I be if I woke a the mare that I just kept up all night and told her to go and do hard labor, not a very nice one that’s for sure. Plus I enjoy the solitude when I’m dealing with the weather, when I was in Cloudsdale; I was always surrounded by pegasus wanting to talk to me, that’s why I left”

“Oh well, hehe, thanks a lot for that, I am pretty tired.” Rainbow said rubbing the back of her head, a little embarrassed. “I’m getting kinda hungry and I’m sure you haven’t eaten in a while, want to head down to Ponyville for a bite to eat? My treat!”

“Really? Thanks so much Rainbow Dash, I’m getting really hungry, I haven’t eaten since lunch yesterday. I really need a job” Thunder said a little sad.

“Would you like to work with me as the weather pegasus? You could be my little helper.” Rainbow says with a smirk nudging Thunder in the side.

“Okay! That sounds great, you and me, workin’ together clearin’ the skies for all the happy ponies of Ponyville, I’d like that and I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone other than the fastest and coolest mare in all of Equestria” Thunder said letting out a bit of a laugh

Taken back by his compliment, Rainbow blushed a little. She had noticed herself that she was getting more comfortable around Thunder. As was Thunder around her, they had only known each other for a little while, but both had quite a connection.

“Oh you know it, and there’s more where that came from.” Rainbow said heading towards the door, “Now stop your chit chatting and let’s go chow down.” Flinging the door open, wind came in and rain started pelting Rainbow, she slammed the door and looked back at you with a soaked mane. “Hehe, maybe we could just stay home for the day and eat here? Rainbow said, looking between bunches of her dripping mane. “You really have out done yourself, that’s for sure.” She said with a giggle

“Yeah, I can make us some breakfast, I had cooking for myself for years.” Thunder said, with confidence in his eyes. “I’m going to make you a breakfast you’ll never forget my dear friend Dash.”

Blushing at the thought of having breakfast made for her by the stallion she had a crush on, though she would never tell anypony that she has a crush on somepony, she did have an image to uphold, but she was excited that somepony cared enough to make her breakfast. She kept thinking to herself, “He’s just a friend, why would somepony who has turned down mare after mare like me anyways?” Saddening herself a little, but still happy none the less.

After around 45 minutes of waiting in her room with the door closed, cleaning up, she could smell wonderful smells coming from the kitchen she opened her door and started to trot towards the kitchen. “No no no, you stay in there until I’m done, just 5 more minutes while I set the table and put the finishing touches on.” Thunder said pointing towards Dash’s room.

The two ponies enjoyed their meal and Dash was very impressed with Thunder’s cooking skills. She found his ability to cook that well, a little bit attractive. After they finished eating and cleaned up the kitchen, the two ponies headed out to clear the clouds because the storm was supposed to be done for the day. With the two pegasus working together, they cleared all of the clouds in under 5 minutes.

Panting heavily Dash and Thunder looked at each other and smiled, “I’ve never had that much fun clearing the clouds with anypony before” Rainbow said looking at thunder, blushing and smiling.

“I’ve never actually gotten to clear the clouds, it’s usually a team that comes in later, so I’m off for the rest of the day.” Thunder said also out of breath. Both of the pegasus were both in a great mood and were full of energy.

“Now that it’s clear out, do you wanna have our re match?” Rainbow Dash asked with fire in here radiant lavender eyes.
“Uhmm, sure Dash, but uh, where do you wanna race?” Thunder asked Dash, feeling a tad nervous that he might lose to the athletic rainbow mane mare.

“Uhh, how about through Ghastly Gorge? I’ve raced through there once before, it’s pretty intense and really long.” Rainbow suggest, hoping Thunder would say yes.

“Uhm, sure I guess, but no holding back alright Dash? I wanna see if you really are the fastest pony in all of Equestria” Thunder said, trying to boost his confidence by being nice and making the conversation about Dash instead.

“Alright then Thunder! You are on! I am going to leave you in the dust.” Rainbow exclaimed as the two pegasus made their way towards Ghastly Gorge. Arriving at the entrance of the gorge, thunder flew up as high as he could in order to get a good view of gorge and trail. After soaking in the details of the gorge, Thunder met up with Dash at the entrance again.

“Are you sure you want to do this Dash? It’s kind of dangerous looking,” Thunder said, kind of nervous. He hadn’t done much agile flying, most of his flying was just speed, he was agile, but still probably not as agile as Rainbow. Thunder had never flown through here and was kind of nervous after hearing Dash’s story about getting caught under some rocks at the bottom of the gorge. Thunder wasn’t exactly very confident when it came to his abilities, only when he felt comfortable around somepony could he talk about his exceptional speed.

“Don’t worry scaredy cat, just keep your eyes ahead of you and you’ll be able to see me go through the gorge, then you’ll know where to go.” Dash said, boastfully.

“Alright Dash, you’re on, I will prove to you that I’m still faster, on your mark.” Thunder said, pawing at the ground and getting ready to go at the signal.

“Go!” Dash yells as they both dash off into the sky and down into the gorge. Speeding through at high speeds, dodging the out cropping rocks on the side of gorge. One powerful flap of his wings, and Thunder reached top speed with a boom and a flash, Thunder’s speed doubles as he zooms through the gorge leaving a lightning trail behind, Thunder gained a huge lead on Dash and she immediately knew what she had to do. Knowing that it was only a possibility that it would work, she had to try it if she wanted to win, speeding up as much as she could, Dash kept on Thunder. Even with his speed doubled, Dash was starting to catch up to him, looking back, Thunder started really pushing himself as hard as he could to keep ahead, when behind him…. BOOM, He saw an enormous rainbow coloured ring and then a flash of a rainbow as Dash flew past him at almost 3 times his speed. Immediately, Thunder stopped and just stared with his mouth agape, astonished at what he just saw, a sonic rainboom, it was supposed to be just a myth, he had only heard ponies talking about it, never seeing one himself. Do to the sonic rainboom and his thunder boom earlier, a lot of the loose boulders started coming down, fast. Thunder started to panic as he dodged boulders left and right, just barely able to make it away in time, there was no hope of him winning, not now, not since she pulled that kind of move off.

Looking back over her shoulder, Dash could see Thunder hovering in place, completely in awe at what he just saw, she turned around and flew over to him at incredible speeds, leaving a vibrant and beautiful rainbow trail in her wake. Stopping right under him at the edge of the gorge, on the ground. Thunder flew down to Dash to have her fall into his hoofs. “Hehe, so what’d you think of the sonic rainboom, I’m the only pegasus in Equestria who can pull it off.” Rainbow said, still panting heavily.

“That was, amazing Dash, just amazing, the colour, your speed, that was, just awesome, you’re awesome Dash.” Thunder said, looking into her lavender eyes. Thunder couldn’t help but think about how amazing this pegasus was, she really was something else, something truly special.

“I’ve never heard anypony say anything like that to me, it uh, means a lot to me, thanks Thunder, but uhmm, you’re going to have to carry me home, a sonic rainboom kinda takes a lot out of me.” Rainbow said, now blushing furiously.

“Alright Dash, but promise me one thing, we can have a talk when I we get back ok?” Thunder said, now filled with questions about this mare, who is she and why is she so amazing.

“Deal, thanks, but sorry for making you carry me home.” Rainbow said as she was helped up onto Thunders back, her forelegs wrapped around Thunders neck tightly.

“Any time, you’re not heavy at all. You all set back there?”

“Yeah, I’m ok” Dash said with her face buried in Thunders mane, he smelt like her house, mixed with the smell of the forest air. She thought the smell of him was intoxicating. “What’s wrong with you, you even think he smells good, stop being such a girly girl, you don’t fall for anypony.” Dash thought to herself, she could think that all she wants, but she couldn’t stop it from happening, she was falling for this pegasus that she just met last night. What she didn’t know was, Thunder, the stallion who never had feelings for anypony, or much feelings at all, let alone happiness since Flitter left him, was falling for her. Dash was the only pony who had made him smile since Flitter had been with him, but there was something different about her, something captivating.

Thunder stretched his large wings out and gave them one strong flap, pulling them both off of the ground. Dash squeezed tighter on Thunder to make sure she didn’t fall, causing her to bush even more. “Do you want to get some dinner after our talk when we get back Dash?” Thunder asked, a little embarrassed to be asking her to dinner.

“Yeah, sure, I’d love to” Dash said, with her head still against the back of his neck. She felt them touch down at her house as he walked her into her house and gently placed her down on her couch.

“Alright Dash, uhm, I don’t mean to be so front about this, but who are you? I mean you just did a sonic rainboom, and you’re letting me stay in your house, a complete stranger, just because your friend asked you to?” Thunder asked, very eager for an answer.

“Sigh- alright, I am exactly who I say I am, Rainbow Dash, the weather pegasus of Ponyville and the element of loyalty, Twilight is one of my best friends, I’d do anything to help her, as well as, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Applejack and Rarity.” Rainbow said looking at Thunder with a want of acceptance in her eyes.

“Wait what? Element of loyalty? Sonic rainboom? That’s it! I know where I’ve heard that name before, you’re the element of harmony, you and your friends changed Nightmare Moon back into Princess Luna and defeated Discord! That’s so cool, it’s like you’re a celebrity or something right?” Thunder asked with a big smile on his face.

“Yeah I guess so” Rainbow said, very embarrassed, “Though, it’s funny, I felt the same way about you when I found out that it was you coming here to Ponyville, big weather pegasus from Cloudsdale, I hear a lot about you when I go up there, mare’s talking about you all the time, but I never got to meet you, I’ve always been kind of a fan.” Rainbow said, extremely embarrassed at what she had just said.

“You actually were a fan of me? Rainbow Dash the super fan of the Wonderbolts and element of loyalty actually cares about the work that I did?” Thunder was taken by what Dash had told him, he was now blushing quite a bit.

“Yes I do! Why wouldn’t I, you’re the coolest stallion I’ve ever met, that’s why when I found out it was you who was staying in my house, I couldn’t help but be happy.” Dash said, looking deeply into Thunder’s eyes.

“I’ve always looked up to you Dash, all of the things I hear about you, winning the best young fliers competition and saving Equestria, twice, you are such an amazing mare, I always wanted to meet you. I can’t believe I didn’t know it was you when I heard your name and saw you, I guess I was just too pre occupied mentally.” Thunder said as they both sat there, now looking into each other’s eyes and wondering, how they had both come together, two ponies who admired what the other had done so much, looking up to them.

“You really think of me like that?” Rainbow asked, now feeling like the happiest mare in all of Equestria.
“Yes, and you actually think that I’m cool? Just some lowly weather pegasus who ran out on his job because he couldn’t take his life anymore.”

“Yeah, I do, I’m being honest when I say that I’m extremely happy that you’re able stay here with me.” Rainbow said, blushing profusely now, face red as can be.

The two pegasus were so taken by what they had said to each other. As they sat there in silence, pondering about how to break the silence, Thunder finally broke it. “Hey uhm, Dash, I was just thinking, if you would be up to it, would you –uhmm, like to go out with me, like on a date?” Thunder asked, heart now racing and blushing deeply, luckily, his jet black fur made it harder to notice.

“Y-y-you, want to go out with me? On a date? Yes! But uhm, why?” Rainbow asked, with wavering in her voice, she was so embarrassed, no pegasus dared asking her out ever, for fear that she would say no and usually she would, “Who the hell is this guy? Asking me out after knowing me for less than a day?” Rainbow though to herself, “And why did I say yes, oh god, I couldn’t help it, but he likes me.” She couldn’t help but blush even deeper as she let her mind wrap around the fact that somepony wanted to be with her, let alone it being the pony that she had a little filly’s crush on for so long.

“Well, I uhm, to tell you the truth, I wasn’t planning on asking anypony out after being here for less than a day, especially after having my heart broken, I really did think I wouldn’t fall for anypony ever again, but when I met you, I don’t know why, but I could smile again and mean it.” Thunder said, with his eyes begging for Rainbow Dash to understand how difficult this was for him. “So how about we make this dinner together our first date, of hopefully many?” Thunder said, hoping desperately hoping for Dash to say yes, not just out of pity.

“Yes, I’d like that, a lot, but before we start dating I’m going to tell you something a bit embarrassing.” Dash said, looking down and pawing at the ground with her hoof.
“What is it? I won’t laugh or anything, I promise.” Thunder said, trying to make sure he didn’t blow it with this mare, he really fallen in love at first sight, he just didn’t want to accept it until he realized how difficult it was for him to talk to her, just like when he first met Flitter.

“The reason I’ve been acting so shy around you, is cause well, uhm.” Rainbow said trying to think of a way to say she has had a crush on him ever since she saw his picture in the newspaper from Cloudsdale and now was ecstatic to have him living with her. “OH HORSE APPLES!” Rainbow screamed, so frustrated, she had never told anypony this and would even yell at her friends who would talk about her having a crush, denying it flat out. “I-I-I’ve kind of had a crush on you, for quite some time, I’ve always wanted to meet you so that I could ask you out myself, but the thought of how many mares already ask you out, because of well, you being you. When I actually met you, I couldn’t do it.”

“Y-y-you’ve had a crush on me for that long? Without even meeting me?” Thunder said, surprised. This was already more attention and love that he had gotten from Flitter. After hearing this, his heart almost skipped a beat, he could hear his heart beating in his chest, even feel it, his face getting hotter, he knew he was beet red now, but he didn’t care anymore”

“Yes… Oh- I knew I shouldn’t have said that, I’ve probably weirded you out, now.” Rainbow said, now with tears forming in her beautiful lavender eyes, as she thought about how she messed everything up.

“No, it’s the exact opposite, I find it sweet, I used to have a marefriend, but she never really had feelings for me, she left me and broke my heart, I’ve never felt like this towards another mare since then, until I met you, but, it was something different, as if I could feel you back.” Thunder said, moving closer to Dash, and wiping the tears off of her face. “I really do like you a lot, and would love you to be my very special somepony, my Rainbow Dash.” Thunder said still moving in closer, as if he couldn’t stop.

Thunder kept moving forward, until Dash closed her eyes and whispered, “I’d love to be your marefriend, your, very, very special somepony.” After saying that, she could feel her lips gently touch Thunder’s. Pulling back a little as if just being shocked, she had never kissed anypony, let alone the pony she’d had a crush on for so long. She eased back in towards Thunder, still lying down on her couch, as she felt Thunder’s lips press against her own, and feeling the heat from his face and his breath on her face, she melted inside. Thunder pushed a little more into the kiss and could even start to feel Dash’s tongue push through her lips, begging for entry into his mouth. Immediately complying with Dash’s bodies request, he let her tongue inside and greeted it with his own. This kiss grew deeper and heavier, the two pegasus, both feeling hot, and enjoying both of their first, real, true kiss, they both melted into each other. Slowly breaking apart, Thunder opened his eyes to see Dash’s eyes slowly fluttering open. She looked it his eye, with probably the sexiest look he had ever seen, and whispered, “That, was uh, something else. I think I could get used to that.” Dash said, her face red as a beet.

“Yeah, hehe, so how about we go to dinner? As a couple?” Thunder said with an awkward smile.

“Yeah, I’d really like that.” With that, the two pegasus, flew off together towards Ponyville again.
