Soaring Hearts
Soarin's Confession
Previous ChapterRainbow's eyes fluttered open as she slowly came to, still feeling the caress of Soarin's feathers. Rainbow opened her eyes fully then closed them just as fast, the bright sunlight that was pouring in from the window blinding her for a second. Squinting, Rainbow looked around the room. As her eyes adjusted to the onslaught of light, she realized something. She was completely alone. Soarin had gotten up and left already.
Rainbow hopped off the bed and stretched her back, cracking her back. Rainbow then spread her wings and cracked and popped them. Giving a satisfied sigh, Rainbow shook and folded her wings against her sides. Opening the door, she trotted out into the hallway. The others were gone. Probably left for the day. Rainbow pushed open the door and instantly saw Soarin and Twilight talking. Soarin looked dejected and Twilight worried.
"Hey guys. What ya talking about?" Soarin looked panicked as she trotted over to the two ponies. Why did she have to come over just as he and Twilight were talking about his love for Rainbow Dash. She was the last pony he wanted to see right now. he turned to face Twilight and found her heading over to Rainbow. She had some nerve, talking to him after breaking his heart. He took a deep breath to swallow his anger and walked over to the two mares.
"Hi, Rainbow. How are you doing?"
"Oh, I'm great, thanks. You?" Soarin shrugged and spread his wings. He pushed off and shot away. Rainbow cast a confused look at Twilight, who shot her the same look. Rainbow spread her own wings and took off after Soarin, who by now had disappeared. She looked down at the clouds underneath her and dove down.
Spreading her wings she landed on a cloud and looked around her. A distant, ice blue dot told her Soarin's location.
"Maybe I should leave him alone for now. He seemed really mad when he flew off." The fact Soarin had flown off in a huff hurt Rainbow. She loved him dearly and for him to be angry with her cut deep into her heart like a knife.
"That's it. I'm going to tell the girls as soon a we're alone together. I can't keep this up any longer." And with that, the rainbow manned pegasus jumped into the air, spun around and sped off towards the hotel, her eyes narrowed in concentration.
"Hey, Twilight. Girls, I need to talk to you alone. It's really important." The desperate tone in Rainbow's voice got the girls attention. The five mares got to their hooves and followed their currently jumpy friend towards the hotel. But one they were alone, Rainbow spun around so fast Twilight, who was in front, took a few steps back.
"First you have to Pinkie Promise not to tell anypony what I'm going to tell you. ESPECIALLY not the pony it's about." Five voices rose into the air as they all promised at the same time. Rainbow glanced around a few times before motioning towards her. After the girls had clustered around her she began.
"I need your help with something. It's about Soarin. I..." Rainbow paused then sighed,"... I'm in l... LOVE with him. And i don't know how to tell him." Rainbow looked up at her friends shocked faces. Twilight recovered first and started to speak.
"Well, why don't you tell us when you first started to like him and go from there?" Rainbow nodded and looked down.
"Well, I first started to like him about three months ago, at the Equestria Games tryouts. We had finished the medal ceremony when he walked right up to me...
"It was when he saved me at the Games that I fell for him. And now, I don't know what to do. Last night he asked if he was just a friend and I panicked. I... I said yes." Applejack tilted her head and smiled.
"Rainbow, if ya love him, you should just tell 'im." The girls nodded in agreement and Rainbow gave them a grateful smile for supporting her. She gave her thanks then flew in the direction Soarin had been flying.
After an hour of searching, she was just about ready to give up. When she saw him. He was sitting on a cloud, and by the tremors his body was giving he was crying. Rainbow flew down and landed behind the stallion. He whipped around to face her, tears still flowing down his cheeks. His face was painted in shock that soon twisted into anger. He turned away from her, though his wings stayed against his sides.
"What are you doing here?" The venom in his voice surprised her. There was no reason for him to be this upset. He was angry for nothing and it hurt.
"Soarin why are you so upset? You have no reason to be mad. None at all." Rainbow was shocked into silence as Soarin whipped around to face her, his eyes blazing with rage and pain.
"No reason? NO REASON!? I have every reason to be mad at you, Rainbow. Your so insensitive to others feelings. All you think about is how YOU feel! You never think about others feelings. Even me." Soarin's anger faded into a pained tone as he continued." I.. I just don't know how make you see me as more than a mere friend, Rainbow. I've tried everything I can think of, yet you don't notice me. And that hurts me, Rainbow. It hurts a lot. I... I can't" Soarin's voice broke as more tears started to flow down his cheeks. Rainbow was shocked into speechlessness. She had never thought that Soarin had felt this much pain. She looked at him as he continued to talk.
"All this time, I felt that maybe, just maybe, I could make you notice me. And not just as a Wonderbolt but as something more."
"Soarin, why would you want to do..." Rainbow was cut off as Soarin pressed his lips against hers, the shock rendering her senses useless. She felt heat rise to her cheeks and nose. Her heart was beating so hard that it felt like it would burst. Rainbow felt her eyes flutter closed. She regained control of herself and pressed against Soarin, deepening the kiss. Rainbow felt Soarin wrap his hooves around her waist and back, pulling her towards him. Soarin pressed against her before pulling back. Rainbow followed im before breaking the kiss. Her eyes opened to see Soarin staring at her through half lidded eyes. He then whispered three words that meant the world to Rainbow.
"I love you." Rainbow felt waves of exhilaration race up and down her spine. She felt Soarin's nose touch hers and felt a tingling sensation flow from her nose over her body, as Soarin continued.
"I love you more than my life.
