Princess Celestia looked out over her kingdom. Her sister's moon was still high in the air, but something... unsettling... had awoken her. She only had on a white tank top and mint green booty shorts: her usual sleeping attire. She stood at her window and looked out over the peaceful, sleeping city. One of her hands gripped the draperies askew to her left. She had felt a sudden pulse of energy in her dreamless sleep, which had startled her awake. Something lurked out in Equestria. Something new, something evil.

The door to her room swung open, causing a draft to get in. Celestia's flowing, luminous hair caught the sudden flow of air, as she turned to see who the intruder was. Her younger sister Princess Luna stood in the door frame, her arms wrapped, a worried look on her face.

"Sister..." Luna started to say.

"I sense it, too." Celestia turned back to the window.

"What could it be?" Luna moved towards her sister.

"I haven't a clue." Celestia gripped the curtain tighter.

"Even as Nightmare Moon, not even I felt this dark and powerful," Luna shook her head, her gaze wide. She looked back at Celestia, hopefully, "What do we do, dear sister?"

"Pray for the best." Celestia replied, flatly, not taking her gaze away from the window.

Kain walked towards the town square. All was silent, except for the low buzz of a nearby street lamp. He looked around, but there was no one in sight. He began walking aimlessly through the streets. Even in the dim light the building colors were to bright. The Lord of Darkness was about to give up on this petty village and move on, when the sound of a garbage can tipping over alerted him to someone's presence. He crouched low, and once again became one with the mist. While misting, Kain could see the blood flow of living creatures. However he saw only their blood flow, so the mortal who had previously knocked over the trash can appeared, to Kain, as a walking system of veins. Well... stumbling, rather than walking. The creature in question had swung around the corner to a nearby building, and was now staggering past Kain. As the creature passed him, Kain slowly stood up, to get a better look at the creature. He noticed it was a human. Not just that, but an intoxicated, female human. Kain sneered. He was hoping for a different form of sentient being to live in this realm, but he supposed he could just turn this world into a place for free roam cattle (the cattle being the humans).

Kain winced, slightly. He hadn't fed in days, and he was growing weaker. He slowly walked up behind the girl. Although she had a vile, human soporific in her blood, he supposed she would have to do. She had light blue and white hair, and stood roughly a head below Kain. He thought about the human before him, and decided to see if she knew anything about the current ruler of this land. He linked their minds, telepathically and analyzed her memories. Most of what he found out, was that this girl was somewhat promiscuous, and Kain had to endure many memories of this girl committing sexual intercourse with her girlfriend. Luckily, he eventually found what he needed.

"Celestia, eh?" Kain murmured.

"Huh?" The girl was about to turn around and see who was talking, but she felt a sudden pinching in her chest. She looked down to see a white hand, protruding from her chest... gripping her heart.

The woman fell limp, and Kain pulled his hand back through her chest, still holding the heart. He began draining the blood from the heart, digging his fangs in deep. When he was finished he looked down at the fresh corpse. He raised a hand, fingers spread and crooked, palm up and opened his mouth. Any blood left in the body and in puddles around her began flowing through the air and into Kain's open gape.

After every drop of blood had been ingested, he wiped his mouth with his arm and turned to walk away. Before leaving, he turned, thinking about the memories he had seen. "I think," he said, calmly but maliciously, "I shall pay your little girlfriend a visit. Good night," he turned back and continued walking. "Lyra."

Celestia and Luna had no time to lose. They had to put a stop to this dark, growing power. The two ran through their castle, wearing bath robes over their sleeping clothes, towards the library. The castle library was fairly large. Stacks of books piled high on tables. The shelves towered up to the ceiling, concealing old tomes and volumes not touched in centuries. A small layer of dust rested throughout the entire library. They worked their way up a flight of stairs to a higher level of the library, where even older books sat untouched. They knew their hopes were slim that they would find any useful information, but they had to try. The sisters did not want this to become a matter of hysteria for all of Equestria, so they decided to take this matter into their own hands.

After several hours of fruitless searching, Luna came across a manuscript. "Sister," she called, "I may have found something."

Celestia took the manuscript and skimmed through it. The papers held depictions of evil beings, and the signs of their arrivals. Her tall, graceful figure moved across the hall of book shelves to a chair. Luna move around behind her, and read over her sister's shoulder.

"Anything?" She whispered.

"We need to act, now." Celestia answered, in a forceful tone, as she got up and began moving towards the exit. Luna was going to follow, but she stopped to read the page her sister had seen.

"Vampire lord." she muttered under her breath, as she read. Fear began to rise as she dropped the page and followed her sister.

Kain moved across the town, his strength nearly restored. He leaped from building to building. While this was only his first night here, he felt accomplished in feeding so well on half of the village. His most recent victims, a family of farmers, had revealed, in their memories, where his next victims should be. Kain had been using the memories of his victims to find his next targets, all night. The little girl in the house he had just raided revealed that she had an older sister, who was staying with a friend.

Kain arrived at the trunk of a large, looming tree. It's branches extending out in every direction. The tree had been hallowed out, and turned into a home. Kain knelt low and made his way to the front door. He saw in the windows that the lights were still on, and he peaked into one of them. He saw roughly four or five figures, but he couldn't be sure. He had learned from the memories he had collected that these particular humans had other worldly abilities, like his own. He learned that they could turn people into stone, if provoked. He recollected a certain memory of an annoying draconequus frozen, mid scream.

Kain decided to take a different approach on getting his feed, this time. He straightened up, cracked his neck and approached the door. This tactic always pained him, but he needed all of his strength before attempting to overthrow this 'Celestia' person. Besides, the sun would be up any second, and he needed to get inside. So, despite his utter loathing for this decision, he raised a hand, and knocked on the door.
