Talk of the Dead

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

It was evening, Dead had finished sending all the skeletons away and she was happy that the town was clear of debris. She hadn't  seen Rainbow since she had flown off the in orchard, and she hadn't seen Rarity since she saw her in front of the farm. Dead never really minded walking around in the evening by herself, most of the ponies that would have come out at this time were avoiding Dead. That never bothered her. No, what bothered Dead was that she had not seen anypony since she left the orchard. She had wondered around, looking for Twilight, Rainbow, Rarity, Fluttershy, Applejack and she even looked for Pinkie. Yet nopony was around. The ponies who would talk to her had no information for the matter.

But no, Dead was alone. And this time she hated it. She questioned herself, asking how she was able to live alone for so long.

"So, why did you have to drag me and Big Mac away for the evening? And where are we going?" Applejack questioned as she walked alongside her brother. The other elements of harmony walking through the trail in front. Twilight who was at the front was walking next to Rarity.

Twilight spoke quietly so that Rarity could hear her but not Applejack or Big Mac. "Rarity. Rainbow told me about what happened. If you are doing this so that you can crash their dinner..." Twilight sighed.

"Twilight I will be honest with you, that is exactly why I am doing this. That and Fluttershy really did find a creature that was stuck in cave. A boulder had fallen over the entrance."

"Is that true Fluttershy?"

"Oh... Yes... The storm blew a rock in front of its den." Fluttershy stuttered. "I was going to ask Applejack to help when she can, but then Rarity said she would get her quickly..."

"Rarity that is just cruel. How could you do that?" A partially enraged Twilight asked Rarity as she paused the group.

"What did Rarity do?" A confused sounding Applejack said as she caught up with Twilight.

"Just something really stupid... Maybe I will tell you about it someday." Twilight sighed as the group moved on.

Knock-Knock-Knock

The sound of hoofsteps on wood could be heard. The door the ranch house slowly opened and a small little filly stood in the doorway. "Howdy! You must be Dead!" A small filly said happily as Dead smiled. "Applejack and Big Mac just went out, they said they might be a while. I don't know what ya did but it took AJ a long time to get Big Mac to leave."

"Oh I see. Well I take it that dinner will be delayed? Or did you already have it?"

"We ate just before they left. It sounded pretty urgent. But they didn't want us to go hungry."

"Alright then, well just let them know that I dropped by... I guess I will see them around, and you maybe..." Dead sighed as she left the farm, once again she was alone walking by herself. Dead sat down against a tree, she had been looking forward to the dinner, still it wasn't anything a good nights sleep couldn't solve. A skull unearthed itself and levitated by Dead.

"Hello Madam. What seems to be troubling you?"

"Not much Skullworthy, just the living. Emotions are annoying... Sometimes I miss the old house. How long have I been gone?" Dead asked the floating skull.

"It is coming up to three weeks, everything is well in the house and it should be just how you left it!" The skull announced as it bobbed around happily. "Ah yes, we do await your return."

"Yeah, I want to try and get you all moved down. I want to live in a house here..."

"That would be splendid, the 'troops' are happy with what they did today. They enjoyed getting a workout." The skull bounced around and settled down.

"I am glad to hear it! Its nice knowing that I did the right thing for once. Currently I have just been drifting from house to house. I have slept at Rarity's, Rainbow's and Twilight's. All I need to do it sleep at Pinkie's, Applejack's and Fluttershy's and I would have slept at the house of all the elements of harmony." Dead laughed a bit.

"It is good to see you happy Dead, I must admit I felt your depression a few minuets ago. What happened?"

"Not much, I was supposed to have dinner with the Apples... But they had to go do something, so I here I am."

"That's awful... Just remember that we will always be here for you. And that..."

"Wooooaaaaaahhhhhhh! Coming through!" A light gray mare crashed into Dead and Skullworthy. The resulting collision sent Dead up the tree and Skullworthy flew off.

"Ah-haha... OW! Dead flumped out the tree and landed in a heap. "Skullworthy! Where are you! Just give me a sign and I can repair you!" A small white burst of energy flew out of a nearby bush and Dead ran over to it, with the mare following her. "Ah-ha! Here we are." Dead picked the skull up and examined it. "Nothing too bad, I can fix this." Dead placed her hoof over a large crack that was in the middle skull. Dead started chanting quietly and her hoof glowed white. Within moments the white went over the skull and repaired the crack.

"Ah, thank you Dead. That was painful to say the least, it felt like a battleaxe was in my head!" The skull turned and looked at the mare that was behind Dead. "What were you doing? You could have killed us... Errrr her!" The skull opened its mouth and shot a small fireball out that hit the ground nearby the mare, the mare took a few steps back. "Watch where you are flying next time." Before Skullworthy could do any harm Dead stepped in the way

"Calm down Skullworthy, I'm sure she did not mean it." Dead turned her attention to the mare. "Now what brings you here?"

"Oh I was just flying over, the I saw you sat by a tree. Talking to a skull and thought you might need some cheering up." The mare said Happily. "I didn't mean to crash into you... I planned on land just over here!" The mare walked over to a spot near to where Dead was sat and sat down.

"I see..." Dead stomach remembered that it hadn't eaten in hours and let out a very large grumble. "Oh wow, I forgot I haven't eaten all day... I need to take better care of myself..."

The mare chuckled. "Got distracted while doing work?" Dead nodded. "Yeah I get that sometime, delivering mail can make me miss breakfast. I normally drop by the Cake's shop and get a muffin before I work."

"Mm Sounds nice, I heard from Pinkie that they do nice confectionery over there. However I have not had a chance to go yet because my life has been rather hectic." Dead smiled warmly. "By the way, I'm Dead. Pleased to meet you."

"Nice to meet you Dead. Someponies call me Derpy, others call me Ditzy. Whatever suits you."

"Pleased to meet you Ditzy. And you have already met my friend over here, Skullworthy. He may seem a bit bash, but he is only looking out for me." Dead motioned to the floating dragon skull.

"Pleased to meet you Ditzy, I was merely looking out for Dead... Can never be too careful around here... However I must return to the house!" The skull buried itself quickly.

"Huh... I wonder what that was about, he has never done that before...." Dead started as her stomach grumbled again. "Ohhh... I think I might pass out..."

"Why don't you come back to mine Dead, It isn't to far from here. And it is on the ground unlike some of the other pegasus's houses!"

"That sounds lovely... You won't bail on me though?"

"Why would I do that?"

"Just checking! It happened once today..."
