Colgate's Practice
The First Bad Patient
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe following day started out like it would at any other dentist's office, Colgate opened the doors at eight and shortly thereafter, their first patient of the day came in. It was Bon Bon, Lyra's best friend from fillyhood. When Lyra saw her waiting in the lobby she ran up to her, hugged her and said, "Bon Bon! It is so good to see you again!"
Bon Bon replied, "Lyra, it is so good to see you too! It seems like it has been forever."
Lyra smiled and asked, "So what are you doing nowadays?"
Bon Bon replied, "Well I make chocolates that I sell to Filthy Rich. He then sells them in his store. Both of us make a lot of money off of that." She paused and continued, "So it looks like you are working for your sister now. I bet that makes life easy."
Lyra replied, "Well I am happy to be living at home with my sister but I still have to follow the same rules that other hygienists have to follow. Colgate doesn't relax the rules any for me."
Colgate heard the two talking for an extended period of time. She came out to the lobby and frowned at the two. She said, "Lyra Heartstrings, we have to stick to the schedule. I do not want us to be late taking our next patient in. You can do more bonding with Bon Bon AFTER WORK." She paused for a minute, raised her voice and said, "YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT BEING LATE."
Lyra shied back and replied, "Yes big sister, I know you hate it."
This had both Lyra and Bon Bon in a nervous mood. Lyra took her back to the chair and began to look inside of her mouth. Lyra felt like she was about to throw up as soon as Bon Bon opened it as her breath stunk. She saw that her teeth were kind of yellow and could even see a cavity with her naked eye. She whispered, "Bon Bon, I don't know how my sister will react to this but I know she will not be happy."
Bon Bon asked, "Why?"
Lyra replied, "Because it is easy to see that you don't take care of your teeth and ponies who don't take care of their teeth irritate her."
Colgate came over to the chair and said, "Lyra, I already said you two can do more bonding after work. Your job is to take a look at their teeth, come get me so I can further examine them and then clean their teeth."
Lyra was feeling really nervous because Colgate seemed to be completely different than she was yesterday when they had their in depth conversation with Applejack. Colgate ordered Bon Bon to open her mouth and was repulsed by what she saw. She then used her X-ray spell to examine things further. She was not at all pleased. Not only did she discover that Bon Bon had six cavities but also she had advanced gingivitis. She frowned and asked, "Bon Bon, how often do you brush?"
Bon Bon could see the displeasure in the dentist's eyes. She replied, "We-Well I don't brush them at all. I just never thought about it."
Colgate asked, "So, what kind of diet do you eat?" She paused and then sneered, "Oh let me guess, all you eat are sweets and nothing else?"
Bon Bon was so scared she looked like she was going to cry. She replied, "Well I mostly eat candy and the sweets from Sugarcube Corner."
Colgate sighed, "With a diet like that I'm surprised you even had enough muscle in your legs to walk over here." She then asked, "So Bon Bon, have you ever even seen a dentist before?"
Bon Bon replied, "Well no. I didn't even think about seeing a dentist until Berry Punch saw how my teeth were looking and suggested I come to you."
Colgate scowled and forced the bite force meter into Bon Bon's mouth. She growled, "Bite down as hard as you can until it becomes painful."
Bon Bon bit down on the device and quickly it became painful. She stops biting and Colgate read the results. She was not happy with what she saw. She growled, "That's it? That's all the more force you can bite with?" Colgate threw her hooves up in the air and continued, "Screw it, I'm done with you. With as bad as your teeth are, you are going to need care that I can not provide."
Bon Bon sneered, "Where do I have to go for this advanced care? I'm not wealthy you know."
Colgate smacked her for that comment. She then got a sinister grin on her face and laughed, "You'll see! Oh yes, you'll see!"
Before she could say anything Colgate gave her a powerful sedative to keep her quiet. She saw that Lyra was in the restroom so she knew this was her chance to start a new part of her practice, what she considered a special dental hospital. She was bound and determined to make sure nopony ever showed up with a cavity again, no matter what. She levitated the unconscious Bon Bon down to the basement where there was a door on her left. The door had a lock on it that only she could activate. She unlocked the door and took Bon Bon down a staircase into a dank, dimly lit room. In the room she had a dozen dentist's chairs. These were not your ordinary dentist's chairs though. Rather than having one full pad at the end for a pony to lay both it's legs on, it had two separate pads for a pony to place his or her legs on. Both the legs and arms had hoof cuffs that could easily hold a pony's appendage in place. The chairs also had mechanisms within them that allows these legs and arms to move in many directions. The chairs also had short spikes in them to inflict plenty of pain. She placed her patient in one of them and fastened the bonds around her legs. Bon Bon began to cry out in pain as the spikes entered her hide, causing blood to drip down onto the floor and drain down the drain that Colgate had placed under each chair. Her cries only angered Colgate further.
Colgate shouted "WOULD YOU SHUT UP! THIS IS WHAT YOU GET FOR NEGLECTING YOUR TEETH!" She injected some longer lasting sedative into her new patient to put her into a deeper sleep as she could not have her making any noises. Colgate realized that Lyra would probably wonder where she was so she hurried out of her new dental hospital, locked the door and headed back upstairs.
Lyra was waiting in the lobby with their next patient when she saw Colgate come rushing out from the back. Lyra asked, "Colgate, I was getting worried about you. Where were you anyway?"
Colgate snapped, "Does it matter where I was Lyra? No it does not. The hygienist does not question her boss. Now let's get this next patient in the back. I'm sure he is sick of waiting."
The patient replied, "Thank you Dr. Colgate. I'm glad to see you want to keep things on schedule."
Colgate replied, "Anytime Lucky Clover."
Lyra asked, "So what happened to Bon Bon?"
Colgate replied, "Lyra, I can't reveal that information around another patient. Come on, let's get Lucky in the back."
Colgate had seen many patients who had cavities but never before had she seen a pony with teeth in as poor health as Bon Bon's were. She began to feel like she was not doing her job in encouraging ponies to brush. Bon Bon's poor oral health made her decide that proper oral hygiene must be not only encouraged but forced, no matter what it took. Colgate hoped that she wouldn't have any more patients with cavities but deep down she wanted more bad patients to show up. Bon Bon's cries as she was being put in her chair gave Colgate a feeling of something she had never really felt before, power, and she wanted to experience a lot more of it.
