CHAPTER TWELVE: Hoist The Colours High

I began to sing as I set off to The Darkness's lair. I had promised return to my family. It was me, Lance, Frederic, Bleak, and Princess Celestia.

“Now, we cannot teleport to their lair. As it will give away our location, we must go on foot. Flying is not an option either, we must stick to the ground.”

We all nodded. Bleak finished up his lecture about how we were going to find The Darkness's lair. He was a former member, after all. We set off to their lair.

We had all agreed to go to The Darkness's lair far up in the mountains, thing is we'd have to go over the mountain and beyond the horizon. Bleak said it would be a few days, even a weeks journey to go. He said we could all teleport back home when we had finished.

Our plan was simple, expose The Darkness's lair and destroy it with Princess Celestia's beams of sun.

After a few minutes of walking in silence in The Ever Free Forest, I decided to sing.

Dorchester: The king and his men

stole the queen from her bed

and bound her in bones

the seas by ours and by the powers

where we will we'll roam

Before I could sing the second verse, Princess Celestia began to sing with me.

Celestia: Yo-Ho, all hands

hoist the colours high!

I joined in with Princess Celestia. I forgot she could read minds, guess she wanted to sing to.

Both: Heave-ho, thieves and beggars

never shall we die!

Celestia: Now some have died and some are alive

and others sail on the sea

with the keys to cage

and the devil to pay

we lay to fiddler's green.

Both: Yo-ho, haul together

hoist the colours high!

Heave-ho, thieves and beggars

never shall we die!

The bell has been raised from its watery grave

hear its sepulchral tone

a call to all, pay heed the squall

and turn your sails to home.

Yo-ho, haul together,

hoist the colours high!

Heave-ho, thieves and beggars

never shall we die! X3

The king and his men

stole the queen from her bed

and bound her in her bones

the seas by ours and by the powers

where we will we'll roam...

By the time we had stopped singing, I looked behind me. I saw no sign of civilization.

I sighed.

Every second, we get closer to our end.

Don't think negative! We're alive right now, might as well enjoy it!

While the time lasts...

“So... what's the plan again?” I asked.

Bleak sighed. “I will take you to The Darkness's lair. Once there, Princess Celestia will destroy it with your help.”

I nodded. “Okay.”

Lance spoke up next. “So, when do you think we'll have to set up camp if we need to stop?”

Celestia answered this time. “Whenever we must.”

“So say one of us breaks a leg,” Frederic said. “What then?”

“I'll be able to mend in easily.” Celestia answered.

We all walked in silence. Celestia in the back, with Bleak in the front.

I stopped. “I hear water.”

Bleak huffed out. “The Great Whirlpool. We should probably check on it.”

We all nodded.

We approached The Great Whirlpool. The ground before us had massive cracks, due to Biollante's attack a few months back.

In the center of the whirlpool, it was glowing blood red.

Bleak sighed. “The time has almost come.”

I looked down nervously. “How long until Luce Danneggiato rises?”

There was a small moment of silence while everyone was thinking.

“About a month.”

I gasped. “A month! Are you kidding?”

Bleak sighed again. “No. The time has almost come.”

I groaned. “This is just fantastic!”

“If you want to, we could just get Peter to join us. You could return and take time with your family.” Celestia offered.

I waved my hoof. “No, I'm going to help finish this.”

“Are you sure?” Celestia asked.

“Yes. I'm sure...” I said.

Lance came up. “Are you're sure you're sure?”

I hit him on the back of the head. “Don't pull a Spongebob.”

Lance laughed. “Just trying to lighten the moment.”

“Nice try.” I smirked.

I began to hum. I just didn't feel like singing anymore.

Meanwhile...

“They're going to destroy The Darkness's base huh? Might as well make it fun. Summon the merponies! Put them around the raging water! I want to see how much willpower these fools have.”

“Yes, my lord!”

“And let them invade Dorchester's dreams... so he will never awake!”

“Yes, my lord!”
