The hardships of a lunar prince [Rough draft

Prologue part 2:

A terrible mistake

3 and a half years later:

“Good morning everypony how was your sleep?” Luna asked.

“Not too bad mom,” Nightsky said with a grin.

Breakfast for today was pancakes, something everypony liked. Nightblade noticed that Sombra was not at the breakfast table. “Mom, where is dad?” He asks concerned.

“Sombra said that he needed to do some errands. He said he will be back in a few hours.” Luna replied.

Nightsky asked Luna what he said he was doing, but Luna shrugged her shoulders and said, “I am not certain, he said he was going to the library in Canterlot to check on security. But he has been gone a long time, I am starting to worry.”

“I am sure he is fine, just caught up maybe reading books.” Celestia replies. Luna nodded in agreement.

Today was a day off for the two brothers so they went out to play in the sunshine. They loved it, but Sombra had been gone for a long time and the brothers were getting a little worried.

“I hope father comes home soon.’’ Nightblade says.

“Me too Nightblade. But he will be fine. Why he is . . . ”

A beam of purple light shooting into the sky interrupts Nightsky. Celestia and Luna tell the brothers to stay at the castle until they come back. Nightsky asks what is wrong but there is no reply. The two princesses take off without a word toward Canterlot. Fear seeps through the brother’s eyes in wonder as to what had just happened.

20 minutes later and Celestia and Luna finally make it to Canterlot; the purple light still shooting up into the sky from the restricted archives in the Canterlot library. Princess Luna runs in its direction but Celestia stops her. “Sister we cannot just charge in like that we must proceed with caution.” Celestia says.

Luna looks up worried. “This was not from a normal spell. It feels different, it just does not feel right. It feels unnatural a lot like. . .” “GASP! DARK MAGIC.” They say in unison.

They start to run into the Library and as they arrive the light disappears, and where the light was now stands a Unicorn with a red curved horn. The pupils in his eyes blood red surrounded by green with purple wisps coming out of it instead of white like any normal pony.

“Sombra no.” Luna whispers with sorrow in her eyes. Sombra gives a Devilish smile revealing what seemed to be fangs.

“SOMBRA WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME? I LOVED YOU!” Luna yells as loud as she can. Sombra just chuckles and flies off in a stream of black smoke and heads north.

Luna could hold her tears no longer. Sombra betrayed her! After all these years by her side, and then, in one single hour abandons her and her kids for evil magic that should never be read.

They fly back to the castle to find Nightsky and Nightblade waiting for them. “Mom where is dad?” Nightblade asks. Luna said nothing as she hangs her head low and just walks into her room.

“Auntie where is dad and what is wrong with mom?” Nightsky asks. Celestia just looks at them with a sad look but says nothing. “Auntie we must know please?” Nightblade asks.

Celestia says “Are you sure you want to know.” The brothers nod. Celestia sighs and tells them Sombra has tried to study dark magic and it corrupted him and made him evil.

“NO that cannot be true! You cannot be serious! Wha…wha why would he do that? He could not do that to us! He love us! It-it can’t be true.” Nightsky says with a shocked look on his face.  Celestia just turns and walks away.

“Well I guess we will have to live without his guidance.” Nightsky says.

“But-but we can bring him back right? I mean he was hard on us but he did that so that we could become the best we can be.” Nightblade says, tears filling his eyes.

“I don't think so Blade. Dark magic is powerful, it corrupts the minds of its users and makes them do things that they normally would not do.”

Two weeks later.

Time: 5:00 AM

Celestia walks downstairs to find Luna staring at the moon with a depressed look on her face. “Luna are you alright?” Celestia asks

“No sister I am not I do not feel good at all.” Luna replies.

“What’s wrong?” Celestia says with a concerned look.

“Where do I begin? Well first of all my husband betrays me to study dark magic, Nightblade and Nightsky are worried sick, and finally I feel unappreciated. The reason I feel unappreciated is that nopony seems to care about my gorgeous night. Anyway that is not important, the point is…”

A guard pushes though the door breathing heavily and bows down to the princesses before explaining his rush in. “Princess Celestia and Luna sorry for the intrusion but this is very important.

Celestia and Luna stand in silence to wait for a reply. “The crystal empire sent a distress letter to Canterlot. A Unicorn that is as black as a moon and starless night has taken over and enslaved all the crystal ponies, they need our help fast.

“Thank you for the information we will get there as soon as possible, for now get some rest before you head to Canterlot.” Celestia says.

“Sombra. You will pay for what you have done to me and my Colts.” Luna whispers.

The guard bows down before leaving. Celestia and Luna break the news to the brothers as they stand in shock. They brothers ask if Sombra is beyond saving. Luna and Celestia say yes while the fillies hang their heads down. While Nightblade and Nightsky go to bed Celestia and Luna go to a room to get there secret weapon.

“The elements of harmony, it is time to wield them again sister I just hope that they work, but I think it would be best to stay her with Nightblade and Nightsky, because it might be difficult for you to banish him you are his wife after all.” Celestia says.

“No I WAS his wife and I DID love him but not anymore he has betrayed me and you and my sons. I am going with you I would never leave you alone against anypony that is evil. Besides I want to see the look on his face when he gets defeated by the elements of harmony.” Luna replies firmly.

They fly off to the crystal empire to defeat the evil king while Nightsky and Nightblade stay home.

5 minutes pass as Nightblade gets agitated.   Finally he has enough “I am going after them.”

“WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY? Mom asked us to stay here until they get back, and it’s only been five minutes.

“I don’t care maybe I can help I can still save him from this.”

“But you can’t its dark magi…” But it was too late Nightblade was already gone flying to the Crystal empire at a very fast speed.

“HORSE FEATHERS! Too bad I am not an Alicorn. I will have to take the train there.”

After 20 minutes of flying at a high speed Nightblade finally gets to the crystal empire, but too his horror it was completely different; instead of a beautiful sky filled with rainbows the sky was as dark as his fur. The crystals where as black as the sky shrouded by shadows and evil. He ignored that and saw the castle in the center as well as Celestia and Luna walking towards it. His wings where too tired so he landed to catch his breath.

Nightsky’s train was close to getting to the crystal empire. “What were you thinking Nightblade? You don’t know what mother is going to do with him.” He looks out the window to find Nightblade taking a rest. “Nightblade!” He gets up and sprints to the back of the train and jumps out, starts to run after him.

Nightblade finally catches his breath and starts to run to the castle. He had to stop his mom from getting rid of his dad. Celestia and Luna are already inside getting ready to banish him. Sombra you have betrayed me, your fillies, Celestia, and all of equestria by studying the art of dark magic I am sorry but you with have to face the consequences.” Luna says with a firm tone.

“You cannot defeat me your magic is not strong enough to kill me! Dark magic is too strong!” Sombra replies with a Devilish smile.

“That is why we brought the elements of harmony.” Celestia says. Without any warning Luna pins Sombra with a chain spell. Celestia and Luna start to charge the elements of harmony when the castle door opens. “NO WAIT!” Nightblade says. But he could not get Celestia and Luna’s attention, so he runs in front and says STOP. Nightsky barges in and sees Nightblade in front of Sombra and says. “NIGHTBLADE NO GET OUT OF THE WAY!” But it was too late and the elements fired at them.

“NOO NIGHTBLADE.” Nightsky cry’s out. Then something else happened a white light shines out and blinds Nightsky. He starts to feel cold but he is still blinded by the light. After he could see again the look around and in place of the castle or the crystal empire there is just a frozen wasteland.

Celestia and Luna look around and see Nightsky Luna is furious and asks what he was doing here and where is Nightblade. Nightsky just cries and tells Luna that the elements of harmony banished Nightblade as well as Sombra. Celestia gasps and Luna yells out. “NO NO that cannot be that is impossible. How could this happen I I can’t believe this how could I do this it’s all my fault.”

“No it is not your fault we should get home it is too cold out here.” Celestia says trying to hold back her tears.

Everypony cries out because of what happened. Eventually they go home but they are left with a week of sleepless nights.
