It was a calm morning in Ponyville as the sun rose. Everything seemed to be completely normal that morning as the Apple Family was having breakfast, the various shops in town began to open and in the bedroom of Colgate's castle, the sun shone in on her and her wife, Amethyst Star. Amethyst was the first to be woken by the light. She nudged Colgate and said, "Colgate sweetie, it's time to get up."

Colgate, who over time had come to find mornings unpleasant replied, "Ugh....can't I rest just a bit longer."

Like she does every other morning when Colgate is like this, Amethyst began to kiss her and tickle her. She said, "No sweetie, it's our anniversary today! We need to spend as much time together awake as possible."

Colgate shot out of bed and shouted, "Oh shit, you're right! We need to get up to Canterlot at once! We don't want to keep Queen Luna waiting!"

Not only was it the first wedding anniversary of Colgate and Amethyst, it was also the three year anniversary of Luna ascending to being Queen of Equestria.

Amethyst asked, "Colgate, why do we have to go to Canterlot today? Can't we just spend the whole day in bed cuddling, kissing and making love?"

Colgate replied, "No, we can't. We are high up in Luna's government and besides, we are partly responsible for her becoming queen to start with. Do you know what might happen if we are not there to celebrate with her?"

Amethyst asked, "What?"

Colgate replied, "She may think that we are not taking our jobs seriously, she may think that we don't care about her and she may think we are ungrateful for everything she has done for us." She became more panicky as she continued, "She might even fire us and kick us out of this castle. I don't know about you but I don't want that."

Amethyst protested, "But wouldn't she understand? It is our anniversary after all."

Colgate replied, "Look, you are the one who wanted her to marry us last year on the anniversary of her becoming queen. Luna and I both tried to tell you that we wouldn't be able to spend our anniversary alone, that we would have to be in Canterlot with her but you wouldn't listen to either one of us and the only reason I finally agreed to us getting married on the anniversary of Luna's coronation is because I didn't want you to be upset."

Amethyst began to cry, "But when will we be able to just lay in bed and make love all day?"

Colgate kissed her and replied, "We can do that after we get home from our celebration with Luna." She wiped the tears from her wife's cheeks and continued, "How does that sound?"

Amethyst replied, "It sounds good." She calmed down and continued, "Well we better get some food in our stomachs and get going. Like you said, We don't want to keep Luna waiting."

While Colgate and Amethyst sat down to breakfast Luna was having breakfast with her royal guard. The head of her royal guard, Gray Wings could tell that she was not tired that morning and he was curious as to why. He asked, "Queen Luna, why are you not tired this morning? Aren't you going to go to bed here quickly?"

Luna cheerfully replied, "No, thy Queen hast no plans on going to bed. Today is the third anniversary of her coronation and she hast a huge celebration planned!"

Gray Wings asked, "So who all will be here and what will we be doing to celebrate your anniversary?"

Luna replied, "Well everypony in thy queen's guard shall be present as shall Colgate and Amethyst. After all, they are in charge of the Equestrian Dental Association and aided us in becoming queen to start with."

Gray Wings asked, "But your Majesty, it is their wedding anniversary. Shouldn't they just be staying at home doing whatever it is married couples do on their anniversaries?"

Luna replied, "We know that Amethyst may protest coming but we know how Colgate's mind works. She will drag her kicking and screaming if she has to. Besides, it was Amethyst's idea that we marry them last year on our anniversary anyway."

Gray Wings sighed as he felt that Luna was being a bit uncaring in how she expects them to be in Canterlot on their anniversary but knew better than to challenge her. He asked, "So where will we be holding your ceremony?"

Luna replied, "Down in the main courtyard in town so we may mingle with our subjects. After all, they should get to spend time with their queen on the anniversary of her coronation."

An hour and a half passed and after eating breakfast and taking off for Canterlot, Colgate and Amethyst flew into Canterlot. They immediately flew to the throne room and were greeted by an ecstatic Luna. They rushed up to Luna where she hugged them. She said, "Colgate, Amethyst! We are most happy that thou could make it!"

Colgate replied, "You know we wouldn't miss this for the world your Majesty!"

While Colgate and Luna were happily chatting away Amethyst had a sad look on her face and Luna saw this. She rushed over to Amethyst and hugged her. She asked, "Amethyst, thou seems so sad. Why are thou so sad?"

Amethyst replied, "Oh, I'm ok. It's nothing to worry about."

Luna knew that she was hiding something but did not want to create a scene in front of Colgate. Luna motioned her wing towards the throne room and said, "Come on, let us enjoy more great conversation while we wait for our guard to have everything set up." Once they arrived in the throne room Luna asked, "So Colgate, how hast the past year been? Hast thou had many ponies with bad teeth to punish?"

Colgate replied, "Surprisingly no. It seems like the only times we have an increase in bad oral health brought to us is a couple weeks after national baking competitions."

Luna sighed, "Well it seems like the ponies that attend those are the ones who don't brush very often. At least you are able to punish those who don't."

While Colgate had an idea, she was unable to suggest it as Gray Wings entered and let Luna know it was time for her Celebration. Luna and her company headed out to the main courtyard of Canterlot. As the four flew down from their balcony into the huge crowd that had gathered, they all shouted, "ALL HAIL QUEEN LUNA!"

Luna stood on an elevated platform in the center of the crowd and began her address. "Thank you everypony for showing up to our celebration today as it was three years ago today that we became queen. Thy queen wishes to let thee know that she loves thee a lot."

One of the ponies in the crowd said, "Your Majesty, I am very happy that you are our monarch now. Things in Equestria seem to run so much better than they used to and I do not feel any disharmony."

Another citizen added, "And we haven't had any villains return with you in charge, which is a nice change from how they would always show up when your sister was in charge."

Luna smiled and replied, "Perhaps it is because they know that thy queen dost not have to rely on other ponies to defeat them. They know that thy queen is perfectly capable of handling them on her own."

The crowd began to cheer as they knew they had a leader who evildoers actually feared. After about an hour of Luna taking more questions and mingling with the crowd, her, Gray Wings, Colgate and Amethyst flew back up to the balcony and headed into the dining hall, where they were met by the rest of the guard along with a massive feast. Colgate saw this and said, "Wow Luna, when you go big you really go big."

Luna could see Colgate scanning the whole meal for anything sugary. Luna replied, "Yes Colgate we do and do not worry, we know not to have anything sugary around thee as we know it would make thee most unhappy!"

Colgate smiled and replied, "Thank you Luna. It is quite obvious that you do not want either yourself or anypony in your guard to have to come pay me a visit!"

After a pleasant meal and plenty of great conversation, evening had arrived and it was time for Colgate and Amethyst to head on home. As they were getting ready to leave, Luna approached them and said, "We hope that coming up here did not inconvenience thee."

Colgate replied, "No problem Luna, it didn't inconvenience us one bit!" She put her wing around Amethyst and continued, "Come on sweetie, lets get home while there is still some time left in the day."

Amethyst smiled weakly but was not happy that most of their anniversary was spent up in Canterlot rather than at home. Once they got home Amethyst asked, "Colgate, do you think that maybe next year we could ask Luna if we could be exempted from the anniversary of her coronation. I just want it to be us and nopony else."

This question did not amuse Colgate but she decided to placate her wife anyway. She replied, "Well I'll see what I can do. You know how Luna is when it comes to things like this."

Amethyst could tell that Colgate probably would not approach her over it but decided to just let it go so they could enjoy the little time left of their anniversary that they did have. While they were pleasing each other in the bedroom Amethyst still couldn't help but wonder if sometimes Colgate puts her job and position ahead of her.
