Today was the Best Young Fliers competition in Cloudsdale. I was excited for this because us wonderbolts got to judge. I, along with the rest of the team, saw Princess Celestia flying down onto her reserved seat.

"Please welcome our celebrity judges for the best young fliers competition, the wonderbooooooooolts!" and with that, our entire team flew off and into the stadium as many ponies cheered. We did a couple tricks and sat down in our seats. "And now, let's find out who will take the prize as this best young flier!"

The first contestant was off. Orange coat, double-tone pink mane, blue eyes. I think I've seen her around Cloudsdale. She did a couple tricks and finished up her routine. Spitfire and Misty pointed out a few mistakes that she made, but overall it seemed pretty polished.

The second performance. Brown pegasus stallion with a darker brown mane and blue eyes. Hourglass cutie mark. He attempted 10 barrel rolls, but only got about 7 right.

More and more performances went about. A few of the ponies messed up here and there, but it wasn't anything too big.

My favourite competitor was number 7, Leeroy Wingkins. 15 barrel rolls in a row. Not bad, for a rookie.

Number 10, was, ok. She seemed nice, but she wasn't very precise.

Finally, contestant number 15. The last one of the day. She came out with another pony, which wore a lot of makeup and was apparently a unicorn. But I didn't focus much on the unicorn, I focused more on the cyan competitor, a rather pretty one if I may say.

Her first act was weaving and gliding through cloud pillars. It was decent, up 'til the point where she crashed into the stadium. I made sure I noted that.

Second act. Meh. She spun clouds. It was pretty, until, well, she crashed a cloud into the princess. Poor Celestia. Well, it was a cloud, so it wouldn't really hurt.

For her last act, she flew up at a very fast rate. Up, and up, and up. The cyan pegasus's partner, friend, I dunno, acquaintance flew up to the sun. Once she reached up there, the colours of her wings shone through and onto the crowd of ponies. It was gorgeous, except her wings burst into flames.

Spitfire, Misty and I dove down after her. Man, her screaming is really annoying. Misty Fly tried to save her first but was slapped in the face. I tried, but was kicked in the jaw. Spitfire got her glasses wiped clean off her face.

I couldn't tell if they were unconscious. All I knew is that I wasn't. I could see and hear. However, I couldn't talk or move.

"Hold on Rarity, I'm coming!" yelled a voice, obviously belonging to a mare high from the skies.

"Oh, please be saving me! Please be saving me!" I silently wished in my mind.

I heard the mare screaming louder. A new sound was introduced; the sound of air curving in. Possibly around something or somepony. I, while still being terrified of falling to my death, opened my eyes to see myself getting closer and closer to the ground as each second passed.

The unicorn mare let out a gasp. Now all I could hear was what sounded like jolts of lightning. After the lightning-like sounds finished playing, the sound of curving air got louder. Then, BAM! I couldn't actually see what it was that caused all the noise.

Mere seconds before I hit the ground, almost dying, somepony swiped me up and put me on their back. Through my goggles, I was able to see her. Her mane, her perfect rainbow mane flowed beautifully with the wind.

I was put into the hooves of a pegasus. I was taken away by him.

"Take me back!" I yelled in my mind, pretending to kick him.

Eventually, Spitfire, Misty Fly and I got to see the mare who saved us again. Spitfire personally thanked her, I wished I would've thanked her too, but I'm a little shy.

After a long, hard, really weird day at the Best Young Fliers competition, Spitfire, Misty Fly and I were talking about the day.

"That was close!" Misty yelled, "we could've died back there!"

Spitz and I nodded. That was close-too close.

"I wish I would've thanked that mare who saved us.." I added on as my thoughts trailed off.

"It's your fault, goofball," Spitfire replied, a mix of playfulness and annoyance in her voice, "If you just talked to her."

"Hey!" I defensively yelled, "you know I can't do that! I've been shy ever since I was a colt!"

"Get over it, there's nothing to be scared of." Spitfire calmed down a bit.

"Um, hello, anyone remember me?" Misty cut in, "we were kinda talking about almost dying."

"I know Misty," Spitfire told the pegasus, "but I'm just trying to help Soarin get over his shyness."

I scowled at the captain. She scowled back. I layed my head down on a cloud, thinking about that mare, that beautiful mare.

Her cerise eyes sparkled in the light. Her mane flowed perfectly in the wind. Her determination to save that other mare. I couldn't help but keep on thinking about her as Spitfire and Misty chatted about the day's events.

Misty got up to leave, shortly followed by Spitfire. Meh. I'm cool with that. I just lounged on a cloud for 10-15 minutes before getting bored and flying home.

I tucked myself into my bed. 5 minutes, no sleep. 10 minutes, no sleep. I kept thinking about that mare. Beautiful blue coat, sparkling cerise eyes, lovely determination to save that unicorn mare, me, and the other wonderbolts. But most importantly, that mane. Her perfect rainbow mane.

Author's Note

Ok, I re-made this. Thanks to HazardPony for the ideas in his review submission thread thing. I tried to make it better. Hope I did! And yes, there is a lot of dialogue, but I tried to even it out.
