Chapter OneView OnlineSpiritChapter One“Oh, today is going to be a great day, Sweetie Belle! I just can’t wait!” Rarity exclaimed, throwing a small coin purse into her saddlebag. Today, Rarity was hosting her very first major fashion show right here in the middle of Ponyville. Famous ponies like Hoity Toity and Sapphire Shores would be there to look at all her various designs and maybe even hook some potential buyers. Sweetie Belle sat at the table, eating some toast, half asleep. “How many ponies will be there?” She asked, taking a mouthful of bread into her mouth. She picked up a glass of milk and started to drink “Well, let’s see… How many ponies are living in Ponyville?” Rarity asked. She put on her sunglasses and then her hat and started walking to the front door. “Um, like five hundredish?” Sweetie Belle answered, her face screwed up in an expression which clearly showed she had no clue. She continue to finish her milk. “Hmm,” Rarity paused. “Well, due to all the ponies coming in from major cities, we might have about eight hundred ponies in town by tonight.” Sweetie Belle did a spit-take and her eyes shot wide open. “Three hundred ponies!?” “Oh yes, I told you before Sweetie Belle, this is a very big deal, and I feel very lucky today.” Rarity opened the door and put a hoof out. “Bye-Bye Sweetie! I’ll see you later!” “Bye, good luck!” As she left the Carousel Boutique, Rarity shut the door and trotted over to Sugarcube Corner. How was a mare going to last all day without a good meal? Rarity opened the door and walked up to the register. Mr. Cake was behind the register, cleaning the food displays. He looked up and waved. “Hey, I heard you’re having some sort of fashion show tonight.” He said, putting down his cleaning rag. “What can I get ya?” “Oh yes, I’m the host!” she exclaimed. “Why that’s wonderful! Hey, maybe you could tell them to come here if they’re hungry.” He winked at Rarity. “Oh, of course! You do make the finest cupcakes in town!” “Well, I don’t like to brag, but… You know it!” Rarity giggled before placing her order. “I’ll take three blueberry muffins, please! Oh, and a milkshake to go.” Mr. Cake grabbed the muffins and put them in a bag. He left and went to the back and then came back with a plastic cup with a lid. “It’s on the house, enjoy!” He tipped his hat and welcomed the next customer. “Thank you!” As Rarity stepped outside, it began to snow. Normally, she didn’t much enjoy the snow, but today was a good day. As a thin layer of white crystals covered the ground, the wind blew softly. Everytime Rarity took a step, she could hear the rewarding crunch as she left a print in the snow. She pulled her silver pocket watch from her saddlebag and looked at the time. “Hmm it’s six, I still have a while before I need to be at the theatre… I think I’ll take a stroll through the park.” The snow picked up, but it was just enough to see. It slowly collected over time, creating small mountains of white wonder. As Rarity walked through the collection of leafless trees and snow covered fences, she watched the lights on the titan-like lamp posts, which created little balls of light. She could see her breath come in clouds. The moonlight streamed through holes in the clouds, creating little spotlights for the dancing leaves that have yet to fall. Every shadow was a masterpiece of Mother Nature, and every second that passed, a gift from Father Time. Fresh paw prints in the snow showed the animals were also up and about this beautiful friday night. Rarity passed almost a dozen unfinished snow ponies. She laughed at the thought that the children came to play, but ran back inside after the frost nipped at their noses. Rarity stopped in her tracks. What was that? She was sure she’d heard something. Oh, no matter. Probably just the animals going to bed. No! There it was again! She listened closely, moving her ears left and right to triangulate the sound. “Watch boys, I’m going to kill that thing.” said a slightly slurred voice not too far away from Rarity. Just around the trees in front of her. Yes, she could see lit lanterns, flames dancing freely. Three stallions stood around a small creature, which was whining and backed into a tree. “It’s time for you to go home, little guy.” The stallion that stood over the creature held a broken beer bottle with the sharp end about to end the poor thing’s life. As Rarity got closer, she could get a better look. It’s a baby wolf! It locked eyes with her, pleading silently for her to help. It was covered in bloody cuts and gashes all over its body and one of its legs seemed to be broken. It whined over and over again. “Whhosat?” The group of stallions turned and pointed their lanterns at Rarity. “Well lookie here. We hit the jackpot, boys. A pretty mare! Much better than that cheating whore Rainbow Dash.” Rarity didn’t know what to do, so she just stood there in shock. “Y-you stay away! Leave that poor animal alone!” She looked over to the wolf who was still against the tree. She was a hundred percent sure it nodded at her. She looked back to the three stallions, who were now advancing towards her. “Come to me, baby.” He took a step forward. “No, stay back. I’m warning you!” Rarity backed up a step and looked for something to defend herself with. Nothing that was wieldable. Just a medium sized log. “It’ll be alright babe, I’ll love you all night! Right here in the snow!” He took another step forward and was now almost right in her face. This was too close. She had to take drastic measures. Rarity suddenly grabbed the log in her magic grip and smashed it against his head as hard as she could manage. CRACK The stallion fell onto his side unconscious. It only took seconds for the other two lanterns to vanish, leaving one lying half submerged in the rising snow. Rarity harrumphed. “That teaches you not to mess with me” The wolf whined again, and Rarity turned and ran to it. “Oh, poor baby! What did they do to you? We need to get you to a vet! Or even better. Fluttershy! Hold tight dear.” Rarity picked up the baby wolf and carefully placed it on her back. The whining was less now, but still there. “Come stop your crying. It’ll be alright. Just grab my back and hold on tight. I will protect you from all around you, so don’t you cry. For one so small, you seem so strong. I will hold you, keep you safe and warm.” Rarity comforted. “Just hold tight baby.” KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK! “Coming” Fluttershy opened the door, yawning. “Why hello Rarity, what brings you here? Who’s your fri- OH MY GOODNESS!” Fluttershy she yelled. “Come inside, quickly! What happened?” Rarity entered the cottage and carefully put the wolf on Fluttershy’s extra mattress. “It’s a long story, and we don’t have time or it right now. We need to stop the bleeding!” Rarity said, her voice shaking. She was legitimately worried for the pup. “Rarity, you let me handle this. You can go clean up in my bathroom if you like.” Clean up? Rarity looked at her back which was covered in the wolf’s blood. “...Are you sure it’ll be okay? What am I asking? You’re Fluttershy. Okay, I’ll be back in a few minutes.” She said, heading to the shower. “I saved a life tonight…” Author's Note Just an idea I thought of while watching The Fox and The Hound. Leave comments. I love comments!
Chapter TwoView OnlineSpiritChapter TwoRarity exited the shower. The steam covered the mirror with the exception of the few beads of water that rolled down it, leaving trails. She spent about twenty minutes in the shower trying to get all of the blood washed off. When she finally did, she toweled off and went back to the spare bedroom. The wolf was fast asleep on the bed. Bandages covered its body, and a small cast on its right foreleg. Fluttershy sat next to it, massaging its back. Rarity could hear the happy whimpers emanating from its mouth. She couldn’t help but smile at the sight. She sighed, and the wolf’s ears shot up. It was a little grey cub with a long, bushy tail. It’s fur looked soft enough to sleep in. It could actually probably compete with a cloud, and win. The top of its head had a little tuft of hair that stuck up almost like it was spiked with gel. The cub’s tongue stuck out of the side of its mouth, which made it look goofy, but still adorable. It looked up and then tried to stand, but fell. it was looking straight at Rarity and wagging its bushy tail. “Seems like he really likes you, Rarity.” Fluttershy said, looking at the wolf. The wolf yelped at Rarity. “He?” Rarity asked. “Yeah, he seems to be only three months old. I wonder where his mother is.” Fluttershy wondered. The wolf flipped over onto his back and yelped at Rarity again, begging for her to come closer. “He had a bunch of cuts and bruises, but I fixed them all up. His right foreleg is just sprained. It should be fine in a day or two.” “You’re still happy after all that?” Rarity asked the wolf as she sat next to him. “You have some high spirits.” The wolf just stared into her eyes. She felt something. A spark almost. Rarity stared right back into its bright blue eyes. This was something beautiful, although Rarity did not know what it was. It just felt… right. “Oh, wow. He really, really seems to like you.” Fluttershy observed. “What did you say, dear?” “You formed a bond with him. Wolves are fiercely loyal to their packs, and right now, you’re the only other one in his pack.” “I formed a bond with him? I-I don’t know… I don’t think I’m the right pony to bond to. If anything, he should have bonded to you. I didn’t do anything other than carry him here.” Rarity said, looking away. “Oh, no Rarity, you don’t understand.” Fluttershy said, putting a hoof on her shoulder. ‘You can’t break a bond like this. You’re all he’s got now. If you leave him, he won’t survive. One day, when he’s older he’ll be able to leave and start a new pack, but right now, he’s only a cub. He’s already been abandoned once. I don’t think he can handle it again.” “Oh, alright. But what do you expect me to do?” Rarity asked. The cub was rolling around on the bed, still waiting for a cuddle. “I’m sorry I have to be blunt here, but… I can’t take care of him for you. He’s formed a bond with you, so I can’t do much.” She sighed. “Rarity, I know you won’t want to hear this, but you’re going to have to take care of him.” “B-but.” Rarity stuttered. “No buts. There is no other option here. You either take care of him, or he dies.” Rarity and Fluttershy were both silent. The only sounds you could hear were the soft puffs of snow falling off the roof and hitting the window and the sound the little wolf made while he played. “I- I don’t want him to die…” “Then take care of him. Just until he grows up a little.” Fluttershy calmed down again. “But I don’t know how to take care of animals as well as you. Besides, he’s a wild animal!” Rarity complained. “It’s simple. Give him a place to sleep, a bowl of food, water and take him outside once or twice a day. You don’t even need to worry about a leash. He’ll stay by your side, no matter what.” “Oh, fine! I’ll take care of him… on one condition. You have to help me whenever I ask.” She said. “Deal” Rarity moved closer to the wolf. “If you’re going to live with me, you’re going to need a name. Hmm… I think I know just the name. How does Spirit sound?” He licked Rarity’s nose, which caused her to giggle. “Well, hello there Spirit.” “Okay, bye-bye Rarity! Good luck with Spirit! Everything you need to know about wolves is on that paper I gave you. You should be fine for a few weeks. If you need anything, just come on over, okay?” “Okay, thanks for everything Fluttershy!” Rarity called back. Spirit was holding onto Rarity’s back as she walked away. Spirit was undoubtedly a playful little cub. As Rarity walks, he likes to nibble on her ears, which earns a scolding from Rarity. After a minute of two, he bats at Rarity’s mane with his good paw, yelping all the way. When they finally arrived at the Carousel Boutique, Rarity realized she forgot something very important… “...Oh no! The fashion show! I’m going to be late!” She was about to start running, but then felt Spirit bat at her mane again. “Well, I can’t take a wolf to a fashion show… I guess I can leave you at home. I won’t be gone for long… just an hour or two at most.” She quickly opened the door and ran inside. “Bed, bed, bed… aha! I can cut a hole in a box and put some blankets in it! Perfect!” She carefully put Spirit down on her couch and ran into her work room. She emerged again with a medium sized box and a pair of scissors. She quickly cut an arched hole and stuffed some old fabric in it. “There you go baby, this is your home.” Spirit yelped and sniffed the box. He somehow managed to learn to crawl with only three paws, and crawled inside. He yelped again, and boom. “Asleep already?” Rarity whispered. “Must have been tired. Even better. He won’t realize I even left!” She slowly and carefully picked up the box and moved it to the quietest corner of the house. After she placed it back down, she silently exited the building and then ran as hard as she could to the theatre.
Chapter ThreeView OnlineSpiritChapter ThreeSpirit heard the door shut. As quiet as it was, he heard it. His eyes slowly opened, and he looked. Where was his mommy? She had just put him to sleep, but where did she go? He whimpered and curled up into a ball. It was nearly nine o'clock when Rarity opened the door the the Boutique. She lit a light and went into the kitchen. On the breakfast table was a note written by Sweetie Belle stating that she’s staying over at Applebloom’s. She must have not seen it before. “Ugh, that filly is in so much trouble. She didn’t clean the dishes! I guess I’ll deal with her when she gets back.” Rarity’s fashion show was a semi-success. She managed to get a bunch of customers, but the show itself was less than mediocre. “Oh well, like they say, you can either try harder and improve or give up and never get anything done.” Suddenly, Rarity heard a clattering noise in the dining room. She quietly moved into the dining room and turned on the lights. There, on top of the dining table, was Spirit fast asleep on top of a plate of unfinished toast that Sweetie Belle must have left there. How he managed to get on the table with an injured paw was a complete mystery. Rarity gasped loudly, causing Spirit to wake once again. He sniffed and then noticed a familiar smell. Mommy! He thought as he goofily made his way to Rarity. “Oh hello, Spirit. How on Earth did you manage to get on the table?” In response, Spirit yelped at her. “Oh you’ve gotten yourself all dirty! Let’s get you a bath.” Spirit was covered in butter and bread crumbs. His muzzle was covered in jam. Rarity assumed that he got into the jam jar. “Come on now, let’s go upstairs.” Rarity picked up Spirit and placed him on her back and ran upstairs. She dropped Spirit into the bathtub and turned on the water. “I’ll clean you up just fine. Just stay still, dear.” Despite Rarity’s request, he squirmed around and played in the water. “Calm down, Spirit! Let me wash you!” Spirit yelped and splashed water onto Rarity. Rarity’s mouth fell open. “Oh no you didn’t!” She responded by splashing water back onto him and soaking his back. Spirit seemed to be enjoying the scene while Rarity was trying to pull breadcrumbs out of her mane. He just happily danced in the tub, rolling around in his little pool of bread and jam. After ten minutes, Spirit finally allowed himself to be cleaned properly. Rarity was covered in all the grime that Spirit was earlier. After toweling him off, Rarity replaced his bandages and put him to bed. “Ooh that wolf is a conundrum.” She decided to take another shower and go to bed. Something tells her that this’ll be her normal routine soon. “Aaaaaah! Rarity! T-Th-There’s a WOLF in the living room!” “I know.” “You’re not going to do anything about it?” “I’m going to go give him breakfast.” “...What!?” “Oh, and you’re grounded for not doing the dishes yesterday.” “That doesn’t get rid of the fact that there’s a WOLF in our living room.” “His name is Spirit, and you better get used to him. He’s staying with us for a while. “I think you have some issues” “That’s it. Go to your room.” “Aww!” “Now!” As Sweetie Belle went up the stairs, Rarity went into the kitchen to get some milk for Spirit. Since he’s still a baby, he can last on a diet of milk for a short while. “Hmm, this paper that Fluttershy gave me says you should be drinking lots of milk for the next few weeks. Oh. It says you’re going to grow really fast. Well, we better get you nice and strong! Who wants some milk?” Spirit yelped and shook his tail. His paw got a bit better overnight and he could now walk a little bit. Just to be sure, Rarity still liked to carry him around on her back. She went out in the morning and bought a few baby bottles to put milk in. Rarity poured the warm milk into the bottle and put it in Spirit’s mouth. He gripped the bottle with his little paws as he drank. dribbles of milk ran down the side of his mouth, but Rarity wiped them off before they could fall off. Once he finished, he hopped off of Rarity and started scratching at the door. “Oh that’s right! Fluttershy told me I should take you on a walk. You know what? Let’s just walk over to Fluttershy’s. What do you think?” Spirit did a bit of a spin. “I guess that means yes.” Author's Note A bit short, but next chapter will be longer.
Chapter FourView OnlineSpiritChapter FourRarity knocked on the door of Fluttershy’s cottage. Spirit took a long while to walk this far. His little muscles were still getting use to long distances. He still limped pretty much all the way, Rarity forced herself to not pick him up and toss him on her back. It’d be better if he regained his strength by himself over time. Honestly, Spirit didn’t seem to mind. He would constantly chase whatever animals he saw and then proceeded to dive into large piles of untouched snow. By the time they both arrived at the cottage, Rarity was cold and wet from all the snow that piled on top of her. Spirit yelped at the door and scratched at it with his good paw. The door opened to reveal Fluttershy wearing a long white scarf around her neck. It was so long that it dragged across the floor even after being wrapped around her neck several times. Spirit saw the enemy and yelped at the scarf. He crouched and stuck his bottom into the air, wagging his tail. He punched onto the scarf and tugged at it with his tiny teeth. “Oh, hello again, Rarity. Hello Spirit!” Fluttershy said to the tiny pup. She unwrapped her scarf and tossed it onto Spirit. He immediately began to wrestle with the scarf. Fluttershy invited Rarity inside and offered her a cup of tea. “Oh, no thank you, darling. I just had some.” Rarity answered. “Oh, okay. Spirit seems to be just fine. He’s a playful one isn’t he?” Fluttershy asked, while they watched him roll around biting at the scarf. “Oh, you have no idea. He loves the snow.” Rarity stated. “Well, that would make sense. He is a grey wolf after all. They love the cold temperatures.” She paused for a second before continuing. “Is it alright if I look at his wounds again?” “By all means!” “Okay.” Fluttershy said as she picked up Spirit and dropped him onto the bed. He lay on his back with his mouth open and paws ready to bat at whatever comes near. He yelped again playfully as Fluttershy opened his bandages again. Spirit’s cuts were closed and had scabs. His sprained paw was much better, and didn’t need a cast anymore. He’d still limp for a few days, but after that he’ll be a bigger ball of energy then he already is. Rarity tapped Fluttershy on the shoulder. “I read on your paper that wolves… eat meat. He’s not dangerous, is he?” Fluttershy gave Rarity a strange look. “Does he look dangerous at all? Look at him, he’s precious!” “Well, yeah, but wolves do eat meat right? So, won’t he eat me too?” Rarity asked, scared. Fluttershy giggled. “No silly. He could never imagine hurting you. You’re his mommy, after all. besides, he’s not old enough to be eating meat. Give it a month, and then I’ll help you deal with that. Actually, if you want you can try giving him a small amount to see how he reacts.” “Oh fine, I guess. I suppose anything as cute as him can’t do anything anyway. Well, thanks for checking up on Spirit. I need to pick up some things in the market. I don’t think I’ll have time to take Spirit home. Can you keep an eye on him while I’m gone?” “Oh no, I’m sorry. I can’t. I have to go help Twilight research some new species of squirrel in the forest. I’m really excited to see an animal that I’ve never seen before.” Fluttershy squeed. “Oh, well I guess I’ll have to take him with me. Although, I’m worried that other ponies will see him and, to put it bluntly, panic.” Rarity grit her teeth and cringed. “Oh, don’t worry about that.” Fluttershy said, petting Spirit. “Just carry him on your back like you have been doing. He won’t try to jump off. If he does, tell him to not do that and put him back on your back. Wolves are very loyal and will listen.” “Oh, alright. I hope he doesn’t interfere with my work.” Rarity said. Spirit yelped in response. “Oh sweet Celestia.” Rarity trotted through Ponyville’s market with Spirit on her back. She received many strange looks and some of disgust. She tried her hardest to ignore them and continue with her work. Spirit could care less, so he continued to bat at her mane. The first place she walked up to was a vegetable stand. Various vegetables lined the long wooden table. All color coded; greens on the left and the purples on the right. The spices had a separate table to themselves to make sure that they didn’t cross contaminate. Rarity easily ignored the passing ponies, but the one who ran the table stared directly at Spirit the entire time. Her eyes were open so wide that it seemed like they could pop out any moment. “M-ma’am. There’s a-a thing on your back.” She spat as she backed away slowly. “Yes, I’m aware of that. And he’s not a thing. He’s a wolf, and his name is Spirit.” Rarity shot back. She looked around the table and spotted the foods she wanted. “Yes, I’ll take three carrots, two potatoes and some garlic, please.” Spirit yelped and pulled some of Rarity’s mane with his teeth. “Y-yes Ma’am. That’ll be fifteen bits.” “Fifteen bits!? That’s way too much! The garlic is only two bits, the carrots are a bit each and the potatoes are two bits each! That makes it… Seven bits! That’s more than double the price! Guess I’ll take my business elsewhere.” Rarity harumphed. The mare behind the counter thought and then said, “Fine, I’ll give it to you for eleven!” “Eight!” “Ten!” “Eight!” “Sorry Ma’am, no can do.” At this moment, Spirit tried once again to bat at Rarity’s mane, but ended up falling off her back and onto the the table. Not familiar with his surroundings, he started growling at everypony he didn’t recognize. The only pony close by, the salesmare. “Ma’am, please tell your dog to s-stop.” She backed up, but realized she couldn’t anymore. Spirit continued to bare his teeth and growl at her. In his eyes, he was protecting his mother. “He’s not a dog. He’s a wolf.” “Fine! Whatever! Tell your wolf to stop!” Rarity saw the chance and took it. “Eight bits.” “Fine! Eight bits! Just get him away from me!” After hearing that, Rarity picked up Spirit and gently put him back on her back. Instantly, he jumped back and batted at Rarity’s mane once again as if the past thirty seconds never happened. The mare packed the vegetables and took the eight bits as fast as she possibly could in an attempt to get her to leave faster. “Have a good day, darling!” Rarity sang as she walked away. She and Spirit visited four more vendors, having an even more ridiculous reaction every time. As soon as she finished her shopping, she headed back to the boutique. It was time to cook some dinner. One of the ingredients she picked up was some meat to feed Spirit. This could either turn out very bad, or very, very bad. Author's Note Seems like Spirit is a natural saleswolf. "You've got a future kid!"
Chapter FiveView OnlineSpiritChapter FiveRarity fumbled her keys into her door. After a few tries, she finally jammed them into the lock and twisted. Her eyes lit up as the door swung open. Spirit batted at her mane as she walked through the Boutique and put the groceries onto the counter. “Okay Spirit, I’m going to try and cook this meat for you.” Rarity said as she looked at the small container of chicken meat. She gagged a little bit, but then pulled an old dusty book out of her bag. The cover read “The Griffon Guide to Cooking.” It looked like it hadn’t been touched in over ten years. She had visited the Library earlier and borrowed it from Twilight. She had been so nose deep in a book, she didn’t even notice Spirit on her back! Rarity opened the book and perused until she had found the chapter on cooking chicken. Spirit could smell something good, but he was too absorbed with rolling around with a small ball of yarn than food. “Step one, put chicken in a small plastic bag and pound it until the thicker end of chicken matches the height of the thinner end.” Rarity read out loud. “Oh, that doesn't seem too hard. What’s next?” She read on. “Make sure not to thin it out too much or the chicken will dry during high heat.” Rarity read over the passage a few times before grabbing a rolling pin and beating the chicken down. Being such a stickler for detail, Rarity pulled out a ruler to try to make this chicken as perfectly as possible. Spirit started running around the Boutique and eventually noticed Opal sitting in a chair. One of his favorite things to do was to chase her until he either tired himself out or he caught her and licked her to the point of excess. Opal didn’t seem to like either outcome. Rarity followed the instructions in the book one at a time until she put it on her vegetable griller. “Eugh, I’ll have to remember to really clean this off before I use it again.” Rarity gagged. She then proceeded to sit the chicken into her small charcoal stove. Before long, the chicken had sat for the perfect amount of time and a delectable smell wafted around the Boutique. Rarity didn’t want to admit it, but the chicken that she had just cooked did smell rather good, but she would rather take a scissor to her favorite clothes than eat meat. “Spirit!” She called. “Dinner is ready!” As soon as she said that, she heard the unmistakable thumping on the stairs and then quiet steps towards the kitchen. Now Spirit had started to notice that he was hungry, and for the first time ever, he smelled something that made him want to run in circled for an hour. Rarity took a plate and cut the chicken into small pieces as she saw in the book and set it down in front of Spirit. “Here you go, Sweetie. I hope you like it.” Spirit took a cautious step towards the plate. He sniffed at it and then looked back at Rarity. What is this stuff mommy? He thought. “Go ahead dear, I’m sure it’s very good. Go on!” rarity urged. She also longed to know if he liked her cooking. Hearing Rarity’s pleading tone, he looked back at the chicken and licked a small chunk of it. He seemed surprised for a second, but instantly jumped onto the plate and ate all the chicken in less than a minute. “I guess you really did like it, huh?” Rarity cooed as she stroked Spirit’s fur. After he wa finished licking the plate clean, Spirit turned around and licked Rarity right in the face. This was a normal occurrence… other than the fact that he had just eaten meat. She would totally need a shower sometime soon. “Ewwwww!” She exclaimed as she frowned, but she couldn’t frown for much longer. Spirit didn’t stop there. He ran up to her and continued to lick her face. I love you mommy. I love you mommy. He thought as he tried to lick her face clean of all worry. Rarity eventually gave in and just let it happen. Once he was done with that, Spirit laid down on his side and let out a long breath. Rarity watched him for a minute before she as well, lay down next to him and stared at the ceiling. She could feel him breathing beside her, and not only that. She could feel her entire body feeling warmer. Calmer next to him. She felt safer. Before they knew it, they were both fast asleep next to each other, trading their heat and letting any worry slide away. The air felt crisp to the stallion. His mane swayed in the wind as he stood on the balcony of his apartment. He had a bit of a migraine, but then again, he was always having a migraine. He learned to ignore it. He couldn't remember exactly what happened that night. He was with two other stallions he had met at a get-together in Ponyville and all of a sudden he woke up in the middle of a blizzard, alone with nothing but his own pool of blood and a smashed lantern. It was honestly a miracle to be alive. He wanted to know what happened that night. He didn’t have that much to drink did he? The only thing that he could recollect was some sort of small animal, but that could just be his faulty memory. He needed to figure out what happened that night and he wouldn’t stop until he did. The first course of action would be to try to figure out who he was with and why he woke up in a pool of blood. It wouldn't be easy though. There were over seventy ponies at that get-together. It was an anonymous meetup as well, so he had no way of knowing who exactly was there. He had no choice but to hunt down those ponies and find out what happened to him and he would stop at NOTHING to get it. Author's Note Uh. This is awkward. I'm a little late, but here you go! I'll be updating this story MUCH more often. Enjoy!
Chapter SixView OnlineSpiritChapter SixIt had now been a few days since Spirit had been living with Rarity. His paw was pretty much totally healed and he was almost twice as energetic as before. Even with all the chaos, Rarity was still able to do her work without having to worry about Spirit. Somehow, he just knew that she was trying to focus and so he sat quietly by her side as she sewed and drew. Rarity’s mind races meanwhile. There’s something that has been scratching at the back of her mind for a while. Something about what had happened a few nights ago didn’t exactly click for her. She had been a part of a somewhat traumatizing experience, but she hadn’t thought twice about it since. It was almost like she didn’t care. She still didn’t really care. What she did care about is keeping her new friend happy, which was surprising. Rarity had always preferred felines until now. Somehow, she felt a much deeper connection to this Wolf than she ever had with Opal. She stole a glance down at Spirit, who had been sitting by her side without making a commotion for about two hours now. Spirit had apparently also stolen a glance at the same time, because for a split second, her eyes locked with his. She looked back at the dress she was repairing and then dropped it onto the table. “Come on Spirit, do you want to go on a walk?” Rarity asked, patting the top of Spirit’s head. Spirit jumped onto all fours and let out a happy yelp. Rarity took that as as ‘yes’ and walked out the door, the wolf following closely behind. “Sweet Celestia! Will this snow ever stop?” Rarity asked to noony in particular while she tied her scarf around her neck. Spirit instantly leaped into nearest pile of snow. He practically disappeared for a second before popping back out and running between Rarity’s legs nearly causing her to trip. “Calm down there, sweetie! Now, where should we go? Do you want to go to the Library?” Rarity asked the cub. He simply just stared back, so Rarity assumed that it was okay. “Come now, Spirit. Let’s let you meet Twilight since she didn't quite see you last time.” And with that, the duo trekked their way through the snow and towards the library. There weren’t many ponies out and about in the snow, so there was no risk of freaking anypony out and having to explain that she now raises a wolf cub. After a few minutes of Spirit weaving through Rarity’s legs and eventually causing her to get a face full of snow, they finally reached the Library. Just stepping within ten meters of the tree gave you a warm feeling inside. Rarity knocked on the door and moments later was greeted by Twilight. Again, she totally missed the wolf cub hiding behind Rarity, smiled to greet her friend. “Hello Rarity! Nice to see you! Come inside?” She asked, stepping aside. “Why thank you dear.” She said as she stepped inside. Twilight started to close the door but stopped when she saw a wolf cub walk in behind Rarity. For a second, she didn’t react, but as soon as she realised what she saw wasn’t a hallucination, she whispered to Rarity. “Rarity. Don’t make any sudden moves. There’s a wolf here and any sudden movement might scare it. I’m not sure what it might do when it’s scare-” “Oh calm down Twilight.” Rarity interrupted. “That’s just Spirit.” “S-Spirit?” She asked. “Wait. Is it your pet?” Twilight asked, turning her head to watch the small pup follow Rarity and then stand behind her like a small child. “Pet? Oh heavens, no!” Rarity exclaimed, sitting down. Twilight cocked her head. “So… It.-” Twilight started before getting interrupted again by Rarity. “Spirit is a ‘he’ Twilight. “...Right. HE is not your pet, but he follows you around…” Twilight’s eyes popped wide open. “Did he imprint on you?” “Imprint? I just rescued him about a week ago and he’s been with me ever since. Fluttershy said that we’re a pack now.” Rarity stated. Twilight wasn’t exactly sure what to say. “Well, uh. Rarity, I think… Spirit has imprinted on you. That means that he basically thinks you’re his mom. Rarity then snapped her head back towards Twilight. “Excuse me, what?” The stallion walked around Canterlot with a bandage wrapped around his head. He wasn’t exactly sure where to start his search, but had decided to start with the place where he was handed a flyer for the meeting. The only thing he remembered about that meeting was that it was for ponies who loved music, and it was just a club to meet up and make friends. How it turned out like it did didn’t exactly compute. “Hey! Watch where you’re goin there buddy!” A mare yelled as he almost ran into her head on. He was far too busy trying to remember anything he could instead of trying to get to his destination. There it was. The pub that he was given the flyer. But wait… There was something wrong there. On one of the windows was a wanted poster with a drawing of himself on it. “What the hay is goin on?” He said quietly to himself, as he ripped the poster off of the window. Skimming through the page, a single paragraph caught his eye. May be in possession of narcotics and/or other hard drugs. He may also be in possession of a weapon. Do NOT approach this individual. He was last seen in Ponyville. If you have any information about this individual, report to the barracks as soon as possible “WHAT!?” He wanted to scream, but decided to stay quiet. This couldn’t be happening. Narcotics? Weapon? What was going on? He had to figure out what happened. After stealing a quick glance to make sure that nopony saw him, he entered the pub and walked up to the bar. “You got gumption to be out in public like this, hon.” A familiar voice said to him. “Excuse me?” He looked up from the bar, and saw the bartender give him a beer. It took a second, but before he could say anything, she shushed him. “You’re in hot water, buddy.” She said to him blankly, but then looked him straight in the eye. "But you don’t seem like the type that would do that sorta thing.” “What? You’re not gonna turn me in?” He asked quietly. “I’ve had my share of run-ins with the law. I’m no snitch. Besides, you look like you haven’t an idea about what’s happening. I know, I’ve seen it before.” She replied coolly. The stallion had finished his beer and put the empty glass back down. As the bartender took it, she said “They’re gonna be looking for you. You can stay at my place if you’d like.” He looked surprised for a second. “Why would you help me?” He asked. “It sounds cliche, but I have a good feeling about this. What’s your name dear?” “Crimson Spark. Spark.” “Midnight Luck, but you can call me Lucy.” “Good to meet you.” “Likewise, now if you don’t want to be seen, go downtown and hid under the bridge. Stay out of sight. I’ll come get you in an hour. Got it?” Spark paused for a second before answering. “Got it.” Author's Note Woah! What? What's goin on here? Don't you worry. There's still gonna be tons and tons of cute stuff, but I had thought of an ingenious way to carry the rest of the story last night and I'm just gonna go for it. I'm trying to have a good time writing, and I hope you all enjoy what I write. Until the next chapter!
Chapter SevenView OnlineSpiritChapter SevenTwilight had explained to Rarity about three times that she was technically now the mother of a wolf cub. Rarity had said nothing, but inside she understood. Spirit had taken a liking to Twilight. She had been stroking his back for the last ten minutes, and every time she stopped he lifted a paw and scratched at her until she did it again. Rarity had been staring at Spirit for a few minutes now with no expression on her face. Twilight had noticed and spoke up. “If it really makes you that uncomfortable, you could leave him with an animal shelter, or even Fluttershy.” Rarity snapped out of her daze and looked right at Twilight. “Of course not. Why on Earth would I do that?“ She said sincerely. “Would you abandon somepony in need if you’re all they had? I didn’t think so. It doesn’t matter if he’s a wolf or pony. If he needs a mom, I’ll be his mom.” Rarity said matter of factly. Twilight didn’t say anything, but it was like she expected the answer. She stopped stroking Spirit and walked over to a nearby bookshelf and stuck her nose close to one of the books, inspecting the fine print. A magical field engulfed the book and slid it out of the bookshelf. “Here. Keep it. You’ll need it to learn more about wolves and how to raise him.” Twilight said, a small smile creeping onto her lips. “Thanks Twilight.” Rarity said, taking the book away from her friend. “Walking With Wolves, an Extensive Guide.” She read out loud. “It should tell you how to deal with them, how and what to feed them, and a few other quips and quirks.” As she finished speaking, Spike walked down the stairs and entered the library. “Whoa! Is that a baby wolf?” Spark waited under the bridge for over two hours now. It had started snowing again and the wind was blowing through the tunnel, dropping the temperature down farther than it already was. Spark shivered, but held himself together. He had to stay, even if she was late. Right now, she was the only thing keeping him out of a sentence for a crime he didn’t even know he committed. His ears shot up at the sound of distance hoofsteps. Could it be her? Or could it be a guard coming to check if anypony was hiding down here? He couldn’t take the risk. There was a small crevice in the middle of the rock wall that he could just barely fit into. If he got far enough, he would be practically invisible to anypony. He shuffled his way halfway into the crevice before standing silently, listening for the hoofsteps he had heard seconds ago. “You need to work on your hiding there, honey. I could hear you from all the way on top of the tunnel.” Lucy scolded painfully as she stuck her head through the crevice unexpectedly. She offered a hoof to help get him out. Spark took it and she pulled him out smoothly. “Sorry I’m late. I ran ahead and took down every wanted poster of you that I could find. Now we can walk slightly disguised in public and not get too much attention.” “I- I don’t understand. Why are you helping me? Don’t get me wrong, I really appreciate it, but why?” Spark implored. Lucy looked at him carefully before answering. “Hon, I have a feeling that you’re innocent. If anything you’re cold and lost. Literally and figuratively. Also, you’re kinda cute.” Spark felt himself turn a little red. “Thanks…” “Oh! Did you notice that none of these wanted posters have your cutie mark on it” she stated, pointing at the red compass rose on his flank. She pulled out a wad of paper. Possibly thirty different posters and not a single one had his cutie mark on it. Wierd. It was pretty much the only way to really know who a pony is, but somehow he KNEW that it was him. “Weird right? Oh! You look cold. Here’s a beanie and a wool scarf. “Part of your disguise and also to keep you well and alive.” she joked as she opened the pouch on her saddlebag and handed him the two articles of clothing. Spark managed to get a glimpse of Lucy’s cutie mark, which was a pair of dice with sixes on each. “Come on, let’s get out of here. Before the snow picks up too much.” She said with a slight bit of urgency. “My place is about a ten minute walk from here. If we hurry, I can take a look at your head and see if I can do anything to heal it up a bit faster.” Spark had forgotten about the cut on his head. It was a much more pressing matter that it was insanely cold than a slight injury on his head. “Hey, Lucy?” Spark reached out and touched her shoulder. “Hmm?” “Thank you.” He replied like he wasn’t even paying attention. This was the first time he had really looked at her for more than a few seconds at a time. She was fairly good looking. Her beige coat matched well with his dark tan one. She had deep ocean blue eyes and a dark brown mane that was slightly curly at the ends. She had a friendly smile and didn’t really seem like a mare that had ran against the law before. He found himself repeating what he had said before. “Thank you….” “You’re welcome sweetheart. Now come on let’s get you to a safe place.” “Come now Sweetie Belle, let’s give you and Spirit a proper greeting. You were very rude last time.” Rarity called. Sweetie Belle had been sleeping over at her friend Scootaloo’s for the past few days in fear of the “danger” in her home, but eventually came to check if her older sister had been eaten. She walked into the kitchen to get a glass of juice, but then heard a sound nearby. A short investigation later, she found herself running right into her older sister screaming “WOLF! AHHHH.” “Calm down Sweetie,” she kept saying, but kept getting told the same thing. “But it’s a WOLF. We’re PONIES! It’s gonna eat us!” Sweetie Belle cried, hiding behind the leg of a table. Spirit mirrored by hiding behind Rarity’s legs “He” “HE’S gonna eat us alive!” She shrieked. “Sweetie Belle, take a took at him.” Rarity said, moving aside and pushing Spirit in front of her. “He’s barely as big as you are! He’s not going to eat anypony.” Spirit leaned backwards to look at rarity without turning his head, but lost his balance and fell onto his back, letting out a giggle from Sweetie Belle. “Well, I guess he’s kinda cute, but you have to promise that he won’t eat me.” She said, inching closer to Spirit, who was now rolling around on his back. “I promise.” Rarity assured. “Go ahead. Rub his belly. He really likes it.” Sweetie Belle cautiously stepped forward and put a hoof on his belly. He didn’t expect it and looked right at Sweetie Belle, causing her to flinch a little, but once she realized there was no danger, she tried again. Softly, she stroked his belly until he made a few pleased yelps. “Spirit right?” Sweetie Belle asked, slowly getting more and more comfortable. “That’s right. You better get used to him because he’s going to live with us now.” Rarity disclosed. “Is he a new pet?” Sweetie asked. “Absolutely not, and you are not to treat him as a pet either. He is family.” Rarity returned. Sweetie Belle decided she didn’t have a say in the situation and continued rubbing Spirit’s belly. “You know what?” Sweetie Belle asked. “What?” “It’s kinda cool that I have a wolf as a family member.” “It sure is, Sweetie Belle. It sure is.” Author's Note I think it's fair to release a bunch of chapters at once since I waited two years to update. Comment down below what you think. I hope you enjoyed!
