Chapter 1

As we went under the clouds we could see the colorful buildings of Ponyville. The first thing that caught my eye was a very large building at the center of the town. I could see a small amount of movement just outside of it. The other thing that I found interesting was a huge grove of trees just outside of the city. Beside be sat Aunt Celestia towering over me in size. I knew she was looking at me waiting for my reaction. I gave out a small sigh and we got closer. Right after my sigh she spoke in her motherly tone, “Red?” I turned to face towards her; a small piece of my long mane fell in front of my eyes. She moved it back into place with her hoof and then continued, “Try to stay out of trouble, and out of ponies heads please.” I gave a simple nod. I turned back around to watch the buildings grow larger; it was quiet for the rest of the ride.
As we flew closer towards the town the Pegasi pulling the chariot turned towards the large building I had noticed before. I now noticed a large crowd was forming and royal guards standing at their positions. I lowered my head at the sight of the ever growing crowd of ponies.
Our chariot landed next the building. My aunt then coaxed me out of the chariot and I took my position at her side. A guard flanked us on both sides as we moved towards the front of the building. As we got closer I started to hear a mare talking to the crowd for a platform that had been built outside of the large building. We moved onto the stage and stayed to the side as the mare talked. “Now please give a Ponyville welcome to our beloved Princess Celestia and her niece Princess Red Tail.” All the ponies in the crowd started to stomp their hooves on the ground. The mare that had been talking moved over and Celestia took her place center stage. I stayed beside my aunt hoping the crowd would pay her more attention. I kept my head down but brought my eyes up to look at the ponies. With a raise of the mare’s hoof the crowd. Celestia started to speak in her formal tone, “Thank-you Ponyville for accepting for my niece and I here today. I would like to tell you all that Princess Red Tail will be staying in Ponyville for a while.” In the crowd gasps of shock could be heard, but then the roar of hooves against the ground started up again. I lifted my head higher and perked my ears. Were these ponies cheering for me? Were they happy I was staying? Or were they just happy to have my aunt here? I looked quickly at Celestia who was smiling at her loving subjects. I wanted to read her thoughts to figure out what was going on. I quickly pushed that thought out of my head for many reasons. The mare beside Celestia again rose up her hoof and the crowd was silent. Celestia spoke up again, “I hope you accept her here in Ponyville and I thank-you for letting me visit you.” When the Princess had stopped the mare beside her spoke up; “It is my honor as mayor of Ponyville to welcome you both. We will treat Princess Red Tail as one of our own.” We left the stage as the hoof pounding started again. Waiting for us off the stage was a chariot pulled by two stallions. I followed Celestia into it and it started to move.
Celestia and I rode in the chariot until it stopped in front of a building I knew must be a restaurant. It had tables with hay to sit on outside and a menu in the window. The only thing that was said on the ride was “I thought that went rather well”. My aunt seemed quite pleased and she didn’t even correct my edict. We exited the chariot and walked to the door of the building which was guarded by two royal guards. We passed between them and into a room with many tables and places to sit. I followed Celestia further into the restaurant until we came to a room with one large table which many ponies sat at. They all looked flamboyant; a word Celestia described colorful or interesting ponies. I only knew one of the ponies, which was the Unicorn Twilight Sparkle. Next to her was a pony wearing a hat, she said a greeting to us as we walked in. Her accent was unlike any I had heard at the time. At one end of the table sat an all pink pony that seemed to be smiling an unreal amount. At the other end sat the mare I now knew was the mayor. She was fairly plain with a white main and brown coat. Just beside her sat a Pegasus with a rainbow colored mane and tail. Now that was interesting, it was also in a roughly spiked style. I wished my mane was like that. Beside her sat a Pegasus I almost missed. She seemed to be hiding slightly and half her face was covered with her long pink mane. Last was a pony wearing an elaborate dress and matching hat. I then heard Celestia, “Red Tail? Would you mind taking your seat?” That’s when I realized time had not stopped. My aunt was already at the table in her seat. I quickly moved around beside her positioning myself between her and Twilight.
My aunt and Twilight started to explain who everyone was to me. They went around introducing and they explained a few things about themselves. They were all appropriately named; from Rainbow Dash to Rarity. After a short introduction from them all our food was brought out. It was a salad with apples, flowers and other goodies on top. I didn’t eat fast I just nibbled on it as Celestia talked to Twilight about what had been happening. After a few bites I looked over towards the pink pony I now knew was Pinkie Pie. She looked like she was going to explode. Then she basically did. She started to ask questions rapidly like; how old are you? Do you like parties? Can I see your cutie mark? The questions were endless. Then Rarity in her elegant dress cut in, “Oh Pinkie Pie darling. Don’t be bombarding the Princess with questions right now.” Twilight quickly injected, “Oh Pinkie Pie I already told you. Princess Red Tail can’t talk.” But then Pinkie Pie’s questions flooded forth again, “Ooh! Ooh! Is she playing the quiet game? Can I play? It would be so much fun!” Twilight started to talk but Celestia spoke first, “Pinkie Pie. Red Tail Literally can’t talk. She is unable to because she is mute.” Not thinking my horn started to glow, maybe I should have just not done it but it happened. My magic was spread across the room and the words were sent out, “I-I can kind of s-speak.” The whole room was silent. After a long and awkward period of trying to listen to my edict lessons, like not retreating under the table, Celestia finally spoke, “She has three magical abilities so far. One is of course telekinesis; moving objects with her magic. The one she just did is her telepathy spell; which allows her to communicate words from her mind to others. The third is the ability to read ponies thoughts.” All the eyes in the room came to rest on me. Then Pinkie Pie had another question, “Can you read my thoughts!” I looked up at my aunt and she gave a nod. My horn began to glow as I extended my mind towards Pinkie’s. Pinkie’s mind was full of thoughts. The strongest was “This is so cool! I’d be able to get the right gift for every pony!” I let the spell go then cast a new one to convey what I read, “You think that it is cool and that with it you could get the right gift for every pony.” Every pony looked at Pinkie Pie. Loudly she let out “Yes! Yes! Yes! This is so cool! That’s exactly what I was thinking!” At this moment I felt, strange. Ponies have never liked my ability. They more were scarred or just hatted me for it. But this time it was different.
