The Man with the Hidden Past

Author's Note: I knew I shouldn't have said anything about the cookie. Even if it would have been funny. Well, either way. TO THE STORY!

I flew around the town a bit to look for Twilight. As I was looking, I saw a green puff of smoke leave the library. I quickly remembered it from the small amount of facts I could remember from the show that it was Twilight sending a letter to Celestia. I put alittle more force in my wings and caught up with it fast. I reached a hoof out to it and saw it materialize in it. I quickly read it.

Dear Pricess Celestia,

Today I learned a new species of snakes has been discovered. The snake is able to transform parts of it's body to fit the situation. I've also learned that they have conscious minds. I have recently made friends with one, though I ran away when I saw it begin to change. I'm not sure what it change into, but Rarity and Spike said that it had grown wings in a very painful and discusting process before. Rarity has also said that she was unable to use magic on it as a black mist would seep out of it's skin and negate magic. Spike is also currently in the hospital from his experience with it. The snake had wrapped itself around it's arm and cracked the scales. It has also bit Rarity and we are unsure if it is poisonous or not. After I finish writing this letter I will go out and search for the snake.

"Well. Looks like I might be able to find a place to stay if I convince her to let this 'snake' become her pet. Wait. I'm not hissing anymore. Oh well. I actually kinda liked it." I said as I let go of the letter. It suddenly burst into the green smoke and floated in the direction of the palace. After getting lost in thought about how exactly that works, I shook my head and went into a full-on nose dive towards the ground. I looked to my right and saw Rainbow speeding towards me.

"Shit." Was all I could say before she ramed into me in the air. The force making us fly out of control into the ground. She better be happy with the way we landed. I suffered the blow of flying through about 5 trees and making a big crater in the ground. What does she get? The ability to sit there and hug me.

"Havin' fun there?" I said as I struggled to get out from under her.

"Oh! Um... Sorry about that." She said as she got up and scratched the back of her neck in embarrasment. "I saw you plummeting towards the ground and thought you where in trouble."

"Uhg... Nah. I'm fine. I could say less for those trees though." I said as I got up and pointed to the tree's I was forced through.

"Whoa! What happened to those!?" She asked.

"Well. It a rather interesting story. Once apon a time, a pretty cyan pegasis flew into an incredablly handsome red Pegasis." I said as I pointed to each other. "As they flew towards the ground, the red pegasis ended up breaking the cyan pegasis's fall with his body. The end. Now. Wasn't that a great story?" I said as I stretched.

"Pretty? You think I'm pretty?" she asked me.

"Well. Actually no." I said, causing her ears to fall. "You're actually better than pretty. I just don't have a better word at the moment." I said causing her to blush.

< Yup. I still got it. >

"Now then. We can chat while we get back to Ponyville. Name's Flame Heart by the way. Yours?"

"My names Rainbow Dash! Fastest flyer in all of Equestria!" she said as sh flew up in the air. I gave a quick half-smile.

"Wanna bet that title?" I challenged.

"What do I get when I win?"

"I'll tell you my secret. If I win though, you have to go to dinner with me." I joked. I don't think she got it. "It was a joke. Just not a funny one. Either way. If I win, I don't want anything. I'm perfectly fine with what I have already. So where shall we race to?" I asked as we walked along.

"Your jokes suck dude. And how about... Sugarcube Corner?" she suggested.

"Yeah. Sure. But uh... where is it?" I asked. I seriously didn't know.

"You'll know where it is when you see it. It looks like it's made of sugar." she said as she got ready. I meanwhile. Just stood there watching her. "See something ya like big guy?" she asked when she saw me staring.

"Well that all depends."

"Like what?"

"Like if you're ready to go or not. I've been ready for a while now." I said as I leaned to the side.

"You didn't even get ready."

"So?"

"What ever. First one to Sugarcube Corner wins. READY SET GO!" she yelled before she took off.

"Hehehe... I might as well wait a bit." I said as I slowly got into the air. As I saw her get a bit ahead, I put more force into each of my flaps and caught up.

"That it?" I asked her as I flew on my back.

"Not even close!" she said before speeding up. I turned back over and caught up again.

"Come on now. You can surely do better. Now, if you need me, I'll be at Sugarcube Corner." I said before speeding up again. I soon saw a cone form around me.

"Screw that. I'ma go the fast way." I said before putting all my strength into my wings and shattering the cone around me. Along with another as I left a trail of black flame wherever I flew. I saw Ponyville coming up fast so I slowed down and searched for the building known as Sugarcube Corner. I found one that looked like a giant gingerbread house with to much frosting.

"Well. I guess this is it." I said as I started to land in front of it. I went by the door and sat down. After about 5 minutes, the door opens and out of it stepped Rainbow eating a cupcake. After some mindless babble I was able to get words out.

"H-how?!"

"I knew the way here." She said before taking another bite. "You're pretty fast by the way. How do ya do it?"

"I flap my wings?" I said before giving them a few flaps. Which ened up blowing Rainbow's cupcake across the street. "Sorry?"

"Whoa! You got some strong wings! I've never seen somepony's wings so strong. And you owe me a cupcake. Now about that bet..."

"Hehehe. I guess you would have found out sooner or later. Come on. I'll show you along with Fluttershy and the rest they should know too. Can ya go get them? I have no idea where they are. I'll be at Library. Just bring them there." I said before trotting off to the library. Once there, I quickly went in and looked around.

< I see Twilight got a new couch. Hope this one is more comfortable... > I thought before I went into the kitchen and turned on the sink. I was just about to put my mouth to the steady stream of water before I heard the library door open. So I quickly turned the water off and walked out of the kitchen.

"And who are these fine ladies?" I asked as I noded my head towards Pinkie and AppleJack.

"Oh, they're friends on mine and I figured they would like to know." Rainbow said.

"Ah. Ok. Well, I've already met Twilight, Fluttershy, and Rarity. And it's nice to see you again. Due to a recent bet, I'm happy to tell you all my secret though it may put our friendship at risk. But, the truth is... I'm a vampony." I said. It look a while for them to comprehend what I had said.

"So you're saying that you're a... vampony?" Twilight asked. I gave a quick nod. Suddenly, they all burst out laughing.

"You don't take me seriously do you?" I asked them.

"I'm sorry Flame, but there's no such things as vamponys! And even if there were, there's no proof!" Twilight said between laughs.

"Oh really? Then what am I? Am I not proof?" I asked her.

"But you where just outside in the sun! Plus, I can't see any fangs in your mouth." she aid as she tried to look inside my mouth.

< This is going no where. > I thought. < Fuck it. I'll just show 'em. >

"Ok. Fine. You want fangs?" I said as I opened my mouth. I quickly protracted my fangs and gave a toothy grin. "You got 'em." I said as the girls started to huddle together.

"Y-you're a-a-a vampony?" Fluttershy squeeked from a corner.

"Well. Yeah. Something wrong with being one? I personally, like being a vampony. Advanced sences, more strength, faster, and I'm immortal." I said as I retracted my fangs.

"N-no... there's nothing wrong with it... it's just scary is all."

"Ahh... Yes. And that is why I didn't want to tell you girls at first. Though I am happy to get this out of the way. I'll tell you the facts later. But first, I need a drink." I said.

"Y-you don't drink... blood do you?" Rarity asked.

"Yeah. I do." I said as I pushed the door to the kitchen open. I walked over to the sink and turned it on again. I soon heard the girls start to move around a bit. I put my head to the steady stream of water and took a long drink. As I was getting the drink, I heard the door behind me open and and somepony walk in.

"Flame, I was just wondering..." I heard Rarity call from behind me. "Can you turn me into a vampony? I've always wanted to be one ever since I saw the movie SunDown."

< Twilight crossover. Of course. > I thought as I turned the sink off and turned to look at her.

"Eh. Probably. I'll check in with Luna later and ask if I can. 'K?"

"L-luna?! You know her personally?" Rarity asked me.

"Uh... I just said that I did." I replied as I swallowed whatever water was lingering in my mouth. "So how's your hoof? I heard it got bit by a snake."

"Oh, it's fine. Turns out that it wasn't poisonous. Though I wonder what happened to the creature. Twilight only explained so much to me about it."

"She might have to tell me about it later. I know quite a bit about snakes. But any way, I'm actually starting to feel a bit dizzy. I should go see Luna. Tell the girls I said bye ok?" I ask her.

"Why? You can go to them yourself." she said as she tilted her head.

"Ah. But I'm going to take a faster route, and using the front door isn't exactly it." I said as I reached toward the window.

"Oh. Ok then. I'll go tell them for you." She said before turning around.

"Thanks."

As soon as she left I quickly forgot about opening the window and just flew right through it. Letting it shatter everywhere. I really needed to see Luna. As I was flying, I noticed that ever once in a while, I would see a blur from my right.I decided to lose whatever was following me and quickly landed. I kept flapping my wings as I ran to give me an extra boost. Eventually, I saw that cone form again.

< This thing is getting annoying. >

I desided not to shatter it this time. I slowly gained more speed as the cone became narrower. I glanced to my right to see the blur keeping up.

< Only one pony I know of can go this fast. >

I put on a sudden burst of speed to shatter the cone. As soon as I shattered it, I immediately stopped. The air that was around me ripping up grass and branches from brush. I soon saw my persuer create a large rainbow colored ring and a trail of rainbow shoot by me as they tried to imitate me. Sadly, they couldn't stop right away as I did. So they crashed into a tree.

< Wow. The trees around me just LOVE to die. >

I hurried over to the crash site to see if they where alright. I found Rainbow there looking pretty beat up.

"Yo Rainbow Dash... Ya alright?" I asked. I got a few murmers as a responce. "Oh. Oh dear. I... don't think your leg is suppost to look like that." I said as I lightly tapped her hind leg, which was jutting outward at an odd angle. She quickly let out a screem of pure agony and started to cry from the pain I accidently caused her.

"Shit. I am so sorry 'bout that. I gotta think. Can ya hang in there a little longer?" I asked her. I saw her head nod slightly. "Ok, I'll get a fire started and try to help in any way I can." I quickly went off to fine fire wood. I couldn't find any anywhere. Then I remembered what Luna said in my dream. My mane and tail where deadly. I quickly found a dead tree and ran at it with my head turned to the side. I ran right along the side and felt as my hair made a clean cut through the trunk. My hair had cut halfway through it and it was time to finish it off. I turned around and gave it a solid kick with my hind legs, which ended up with it flying back to where Rainbow was.

"Oh. How lucky." I said as I rushed back over. I found Rainbow shivering. "Why... I don't think dislocated limbs do that. Blood loss, yes. Shock, I'm not sure. Probably. Wait, Rainbow, I need to check something. And this is probably gonna hurt. Alot. I'm gonna need you to tough it up and handle it alright?" I asked her as I slowly got closer. I saw her head nod again. I walked to her side and put a hoof to it.

"Ready?" I asked. Another nod. I slowly lifted her side and saw that there was a large splinter of wood going through her wing. It doesn't look like it hit a bone, but it definately hit a vein or something. The splinter was acting as a way for the blood to travel and the splinter led into the tree which now had a small pool filled with blood inside it. I had to fight the strong urge to drink it.

"Ok, I found the problem. Now, I need to remove it so it does doesn't cause an infection. Here, bit this." I said as I spread my wing in front of her mouth.

"A-are you sure?" I heard her ask.

"If I wasn't, would I offer it?" I responded. After a little while, I felt her mouth bite my wing.

"Ok, I'll do it on the count of three. One..." I said as I gripped the splinter. "Two.." I felt her mouth bite harder on my wing. "Three!" I yanked out the splinter as I ignored the searing pain in my wing. I looked at the splinter and found alot of blood on it. I found my fangs protracting quickly.

< Well... One little taste wount hurt... > I thought as I stuck my forked tongue out and ran it across the rough peice of wood. Besides the wood, I tasted something like rain, with something fruity hidden away in it.

< I be tasting the rainbow. Screw you Skittlez. The only joy you gave me was when I threw you at people screeming 'TASTES THE RAINBOW BITCHEZ!' > I thought as I licked the splinter clean. Soon, I felt Rainbow release her bit on my wing. I heard her cough a few times and spit something out.

"Ugh... Sorry about that. I think I punctured the skin on your wing.... Bleh. Your blood taste funny. Spicy. Like, really spicy! Ah! It burns! -gulp- Ewww!! I think I swallowed some!"

< Oh god. Why didn't I just knock her out?! > I thought as I listened to her complain about 'how spicy my blood was' or 'why we arn't moving yet.'

"Hey, I still need to get that fire ready. Wanna watch?" I asked her. Mainly just trying to shut her up. The 'Fastest Flyer in all of Equestria' is a pain in the ass when she isn't doing what she wants.

"Sure. I got nothin' better to do. Since I can't get up." she said as she crossed her hooves. I quickly started to cut up the tree into smaller logs with my tail as I kept an eye on Rainbow. After the tree was in sizable chunks, I dumped a couple in a ring of stones I had made and sat by Rainbow.

"So. Why where you following me?" I asked.

"I'm not sure. I just felt like I needed to follow you." she said. I gave a small smile and wrapped my wing around her, drawing her close.

"Hey, if ya wanted to ask me something... Ya could just ask." I said, suprising her.

"H-how did you know?" she asked as she pushed away from me to look me in the eyes.

"Face it. I can read anypony like an open book." I said still smiling. I saw Rainbow push farther away from me. I then remebered that my fangs where still out in the open.

"Hehe... Sorry." I said as I quickly retracted them. "Welp. I need to get back to that fire."I said as I unwrapped Rainbow and walked back over to the pile of wood.

< Fire >

I helt out my hoof as the fire begain to materialize in it. I looked over to Rainbow and saw her stareing at my hoof wide eyed. I gave a quick chuckle and and thrust my hoof at the wood pile, causeing the fire in my hoof to shoot out and coat the pile of wood in a deadly, blood-red colored flame.

"Yo Rainbow! I heard you like fire. So I brought ya a fire. You want some?" I asked as I walked over. Everytime I got close I saw her try to crawl get farther.

"What's the matter?" I asked. She pointed to my hoof. Which had left a trail of hoof-sized burn marks on the ground because I forgot to get rid of the fire.

"Oh." I quickly clapped my hooves together and opened them to see the flame gone. "Now common. We gotta get you to the fire. I said as I wrapped one of her hooves around me so I could lift her off her dislocated leg. I really should have just held her in a wing because when I stood straight, she was a couple feet off the ground. I gently set her down by a log I cut from the tree.

"Hey, I'm gonna go look for supplies. Stay here ok?" I instructed.

"Hey! I can take care of myself you know!" she yelled at me.

"Sure ya can. But if you could take care of yourself, you wouldn't have needed me to remove that big peice of wood from your wing. And you wouldn't have needed me to make a fire. So I'm gonna go look for supplies. Stay by the fire and don't move your wing." I said before running off into the forest. After half an hour of being scared when a random stick snaped or a bird flying in right front of my face, I found an abandomed, run down shack. I quickly run up to it and tapped on the door. Which broke off the hinges and fell to the ground.

"Well, the shack itself is in terrable condition. I could blow on a wall and it would probably fall." I said to myself as I walked in. The shack was cleaner than I expected, sure it was absolutly covered in dust. But not a single cobweb in sight.

"Huh. Ok then." I commented as I wandered the shack grabbing anything useful. I ended up having to find an old sack to be able to carry everything. After I had everything, I quickly spread my wings and shot out the roof. I saw Rainbow in the distance trying to fight something. I quickly recognized it. Soon, my fangs protracted, and I felt myself go into a rage. I saw as the black mist from before burst out of my body and surrounded me. I soon found myself in thermal. I saw as the figure she was fighting was a large, very high temperature, human shaped creature.

GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM HER! I yelled as I flew straight at it. I quickly dropped the sack by the log Rainbow was on and flew straight at the figure, knocking into it and roleing around as it tried to get me off it. I ended up on it's chest. I took this chance and I repeatedly smashed my hooves into it's face with all the power I could. I saw as the cold mist that surrounded me soon began to surround it as well. Soon, I saw it's body grow colder and it stopped putting up as much fight. I started to relax and got knocked off by a punch in the jaw. I looked back at it to see that the cold mist still surrounded it. I saw the creature's heat trying to fight it but it couldn't win. The mist wouldn't let up. I saw it run over to where Rainbow was lieing and wrap an arm around her neck.

Another move and she dies. I heard.

< Strange, that's not the voice from the one before. But, that means he doesn't know what I can do. Shadows. > I thought as I found myself melt into the shadows. The black mist around me soon shot off into every shadow in the general area.

HEAR ME SHADOWS! AND FOLLOW TO MY EVERY COMMAND! I bellowed. Commanding the shadows to obey. The creature holding Rainbow was franticly looking around for me. What he didn't see was that his own shadow was beginning to form behind him. Soon, all the shadows in the area became one big mass and surrounded it. The shadows began to craw up his feet and imobalize him. He soon dropped Rainbow to try and save himself. Soon, the shadows and reached his arms and pinned them to his sides.

Ahh!!! Help! Please! I'll do anything! Just don't kill me! I heard it beg. I quickly commanded the shadows to stop.

Anything?

Yes! Please! Just let me live! It begged before breaking down in sobbs.

Ok then. Have fun! I said before commanding the shadows to release him. And then make him explode half an hour later. Can't let him get off without a lesson now can we? As soon as he was released, he bolted out of there. I quickly ran over to Rainbow to see if she was alright as I went back to normal and the black mist evaporated into the air. I put a hoof to her neck to see if she had a pulse. It was still going strong.

"Hehe. Thata girl." I commented before picking her up in my wing and leaning her against the log. I ran over to the sack and started looking for the stuff I needed. I grabbed out a bottle of whiskey, a towel, a blanket, and a small sack of salt.

"Here." I said handing the bottle to her. "Drink some of this. This should help some." I said as I took the towel and dabbed at any wounds I could find. After she was done, I quickly grabbed it and put some on the towel. "Ok, this is gonna sting. Here." I said handing her the salt.

"Throw some into the fire. It might take your mind off the pain." I said. I watched her open the sack and grab some salt in her hoof. She lightly tossed it in and the fire burst into a yellow color.

"Wow..." she said as she marveled over the trick. I took her distraction as my chance and slowly dabbed at her wing with the towel. I felt her wings tence from the pain and I held it still with my other hoof as I continued to clean it. Soon, I heard a loud screem and sickening popping sounds and rips.

"Hehehe... I guess we got our revenge eh Rainbow?" I asked her, trying to keep my mind from wandering. I needed to stay focused on taking care of Rainbow.

"Heh. Yeah. Though did you really have to kill him?" she asked as she watched the fire.

"If I didn't, he would have came right back. Though I'm wondering why he attacked you in the first place." I said as I finished cleaning her wound. I quickly went over to the splinter that caused it and put it by my tail. I began to cut it into a smooth stick to use as a splint for Rainbow's leg when I fix it.

"What are you doing with that?" she asked when she saw me.

"Making a splint."

"Why?"

"Because I'm not sure what's wrong with your leg and I don't take chances when it comes down to something like this. And don't worry about the pain. You'll be asleep when I fix it." I said as I said as my mind began to wander. After about half an hour, I remembered something.

"Guess what I just remembered."

"What?" Rainbow asked as she tossed the bag the salt was in into the fire.

"You never told me what your question was."
