Unfortunate truths

After we ate an explained to Dusty what was going on we headed back to the hospital. Outside of Slivers room we saw Snow and the Doctor talking.

“Alright, thank you doctor.” Snow said and the Doctor walked off.

“Snow is everything alright?” Dusty asked. Snow didn't answer. He seemed lost in thought. “Snow are you listening to m-.” Snow suddenly ran towards me cutting off Dusty completely. then stopped dead in front of me. I flinched hard but, he grabbed my shoulders holding me in place.

“jinx were friends right?” He asked. it was a weird question. I looked over to dusty then to magis who both seemed just as confused as I am.

“Of course we are, why do you ask?” He then got closer to my to face. I started blushing again.

“I asked because you're the only one who can help me.” He whispered in my ear. “I need to talk to you in private. lets go in slivers room.” He looked back into my eyes. I could see this was really important to him.

“alright but, was it necessary for you to do all this?” I whispered back. Snow noded.

“Dusty and Magis can't know anything about this. I will explain once where in slivers room.” What's so important that I was the only one who could know about it. I guess I would find out soon. “ I need you to make up an excuse for us to talk privately. I don't want them questioning you after we talked.” I nodded but, I needed a moment to think of an excuse.

“Magis, dusty will you give us a second. I need to talk to Snow in private about about personal space.” I then grabbed his ear and pulled him into slivers room. Closing the door I asked. “what's wrong and how can I help?” He began to rub his ear. I noticed sliver was sleeping. Maybe this wasn't the best place to talk.

“First off you didn't have to pull my ear so hard.”

“Sorry, I wanted it to make it look real.” I said sheepishly.

“Jinx what I'm about to tell you can't leave this room. I need you to promise me you won't tell anypony about this.” His voice was serious and his expression was stern. “I would not have asked you to keep this secret if slivers life wasn't depending on it.”

“So, what you're saying is if I say no now sliver will die?” He nodded. I could tell by the way he was looking at me that this was no joke. “Well I don't have much of a choice now do I?” He looked back to silver. then turned to me and took a deep breath.

“Jinx, Silver and I are changelings. I'm asking no, begging you to let him take some of your love. If he doesn't he will die.” I stayed silent for a few minutes thinking. I had never came across a changeling before. I had only rumors about them and I knew how rumors worked all too well. The rumors said that changelings were monsters disguised as loved ones and if you ever found them out they were very dangerous.

I took a deep breath and said calmly. “What will happen if I say no now?” I hoped I was right about rumors. If not I could probably get to door. Magis and Dusty are right outside If I could get to them I would be fine.

“Like I said earlier sliver will die. I can not force into this. You can leave this room and tell everypony you see that we're changelings and I wouldn't stop you. If silver dies because of me then I might as well be dead.”

“Why are you asking me? Why not Dusty or magis?”

“Because they hate my kind.” He said anger growing in his voice. “I don't blame them.” I could see the sorrow slowly overgrowing his anger.

“How could you possibly know that?”

“All changelings have a special connection we like to call the hive mind. It allows us to communicate with each other no matter where we are. We can also make separate connections from the main hive. We use this to figure out where other changelings have been. I don't know all the details but, I know at some point and Dusty and Magis lives they have dealt with my kind and hate us more because of it. I'm asking you because you have never seen a changeling and would be my best chance of saving Slivers life.”

“How do I know this isn't a trick to get love from me.” Everything he said seemed legit but, there was something inside me telling me to run and get help. Dont trust a changeling.

“If you were the changeling here what trick do you think you could pull by revealing yourself to somepony you just met yesterday?” I thought for a moment about the question. If this was a trick it was a very stupid one.

“Alright, you've convic-” Thats all I could say before I felt hooves wrap around me. For a second I thought I was being strangled but, it became clear to me that this was a hug.

“Thank you. Im glad you believe me.” His voice seemed filled with joy. When I broke the hug I noticed the tears in Snows eyes.

“Are you crying?”

“Yeah, I was. Its very scary when you put your life in somepony elses hooves.” I nodded. I guess we both were scared of each other.

“I will do this but, I want you to promise me that you will tell magis and Dusty.” He simply noded.

“So, how do I do this?” I asked walking up to slivers bed. He must have been a very heavy sleeper.

“All I need you to do is hold his hoof. Then I need you to think about somepony you truly love. It can be anypony as long is the love is real.” I did as he said holding silver hoof. I started to think about somepony I loved. My best friend was the first choice to come to mind. Then I felt myself being drained. It felt like I was running and slowly getting tired from it. “thats enough!” I heard Snow say and pulled my hoof away. My body feeling heavy all of a sudden. I fell to the floor. The last thing I heard was Snow calling my name. Then darkness.

sometime later

I woke up like any other day. I stretched out both my front hooves allowing myself to yawn. when my eyes focus on the room I realised this wasn't my room. This wasn't even my house. I was still in the hospital. I also wasn't the only one in the room. Snow and Silver were on each side of the bed.

“Look who finally decided to wake up. Did you sleep well?” Snow asked.

“What happened?”

“Well, you give sliver so much love you passed out.”

“I really must thank you for saving my life. I will never be able to repay what I owe you but, I will try. If you ever need anything do hesitate to ask.”

“No problem. Snow how long was I sleep anyway?”

“A few hours. don't worry I told Magis and Dusty that you passed out from giving blood to Sliver.”

“Snow! You promised me you would tell them the truth.”

“I know but, you never said I had to do it now. I will tell them just give me sometime.”

Silver turned to snow.“Snow what did you promise?” Sliver asked raising an eyebrow.

“He promised me he would tell Magis and Dusty what you two are.” I was a little annoyed that he twisted my words. I just hope he doesn't put off telling them for too long.

“I think thats a really bad idea. Snow and I know for a fact that it won't end well for anyone involved.” Silver said.

“Thinking negative won't get you far. Everypony is not the same. You took a big risk on telling me and looked what happened. Silver is alive and now you have somepony you can trust.” They both fall silent. I could only assume that they were thinking on what to do next or, maybe they were using their hivemind thing to talk to eachother. “Look, Snow i'm not going to tell you when or where to tell them. I just want you to tell them. The best I can do is be there when you tell them.”

He nodded and said “I think you're right. maybe telling them might be best.”

Magis, Dusty and I left the hospital a few hours later. Silver stayed but, not because he needed to recover or anything. He told me he was fine but, he had to stay so doctors wouldn't start asking questions about how quickly he recovered. Snow stayed to keep him company. Something in my mind kept telling me that they were more than just friends.

I was finally getting around to the tour of the city. We started from the hospital which wasn't very far from my home. The city had more stores than I could have thought of. They had a store for just about anything.

“Magis is there a easier way to remember all this?” I asked.

“Yeah, there is but, we need to get to the middle of the city first.” I nodded.

We continued to walk for about five more minutes. I was flowing Magis and Dusty while looking at each store we passed. How could anypony live in the city. Theres just so much I would be lost all the time. Then this city looks completely different at night. How does Magis and Dusty do it?

“Alright, were here. This is the middle of the city. From here you can always figure out where you're going. There are only four main roads you can take. If you look down each main road you can see a landmark that can help you. Jinx you live close to the hospital right?” He asked.

“Yeah.” I answered. I wasn't sure where he was going with this.

“Well, if you look from here you can see the hospital sign.” He was right. If I followed that sign I would always know how to get home. “If you look to the left of where we are you can where I work. The sign you would look for would be the big microphone.”

“We also live in that direction.” dusty added.

“Now on the right, the landmark you would look for would be the boats from HorseShoe Bay. The last street does not have a landmark but, if you go there it leads to the train that leaves Baltimare.”

“That does make navigating around this city a lot easier.” I said looking at each landmark. This made things surprisingly simple now.

“Well now that you know where you are I have to start heading towards work.” Dusty said. Now that I looked around it was around sunset. How long were we at the hospital this morning.

“Dusty, we can walk you to work if you want?” I offered.

“Sure, it will make the walk much faster.” Dusty said.

We begin walking towards HorseShoe bay. Magis and I were side by side while Dusty was a little bit ahead of us. I guess he was running late. I then just realized that I had no idea what Dusty job was.

“Dusty, where do you work?” I asked.

“I work at the Bay.” He answered. “I just make sure that everything runs ok. Its a real simple job. speaking of jobs, what do you do jinx?”

I forze. I had no idea what to say. “well...you see...I'm a.” I looked to magis for help.

“shes a bartender.” Magis said cutting me off.

“Yup, Im a bartender.” I lied. I knew nothing about being a bartender but, as long as Dusty didn't ask me anymore questions about it I should be fine.

“Really, that doesn't seem like something you would do.” Dusty said. I wonder if I should have been offended by the fact he said I didn't seem like that type of pony to be a bartender. “I do thank both of you for walking with me.” Dusty added.

“No problem.” Magis replied. “I do think Jinx and I should start walking back from here. Its getting pretty late.” I nodded in agreement.

“Alright, I'll see you guys later.” Dusty said. He then walked off. as soon as he was out of earshot I turned to Magis glaring.

“What?” He said confused.

“A bartender, really? That was the best you could come up with. I don't know anything about being a bartender.”

“It was the first thing that came to mind.” magis replayed.

I took a deep breath. “Its fine, lets just start heading back.” We started walking back down towards the center of the city. The sun was gone by the time we made it there. I watched as the city lights came on all at once. They were so beautiful. They really made the city shine like a diamond in the light. Magis most have saw my expression.

“Its breathtaking isn't it?” magis asked. unable to speak I answered with a simple nod. I sat there for a while taking in all the city had to offer.

“I wish Swift wind could see this.” I said outloud to myself.

“Is Swift the friend that helped you?” Magis asked. I nodded. “Do you want to talk about it?” He asked. sitting next to me.

“No, not right now.” I replied. I wasn't in the mood to talk about her. We didn't have a happy ending to our story. “Magis lets do something fun.” I just really wanted something to take my mind off her.

“Alright, I know just the thing.” A smile forming on his face.
