Test of Compliance

Time is twenty three minutes past nine in the morning.
It’s been six days since I finished the tests with Subject Two-Five-Nine and I’ve finally had some sort of reply off Trueblood, he’s organised a meeting with those overseeing the subjects to discuss a ‘matter of great importance’. I’ll dwell on what that means later but for now what I made this little recording to really say is that nothing abnormal has been observed from the Subject over the past few days. That is all.

Time is thirty seven minutes past one in the afternoon.
I have to say that I am not in a good mood at the moment. This…this meeting that Trueblood called for wasn’t a discussion at all. It was a do or die order he gave us. Sure we kicked up a fuss for an hour but when a director pulls the ‘you can be replaced’ card what can you do?
Anyway, Trueblood has told us that out of the seven hybrids only two have passed the requirements adequately, the successful ones were Two-Five-Nine naturally and Two-Five-Seven. This is where the order came in, there are currently two operations that Trueblood believes we can use to test the hybrids on to prove that Chimera is a worthwhile project. The problem is which hybrid does what. So, while this could be settled quite easily by a coin toss he thinks we should send the stronger of the two on the highest-risk operation.
We told him where to shove it.
He persuaded us otherwise.
So it seems that tomorrow morning there is going to be a literal death match but without the death part, between Two-Five-Nine and Two-Five-Seven. I’ve got the feeling that Trueblood has had this planned for a while, because if you think about it, each of us who oversee a hybrid were not allowed to have any contact with the other subjects let alone discuss what you’ve discovered with other researchers…Come to think of it, before seeing her today I haven’t actually spoken to Lightning Bay since I found, well scouted out Two-Five-Nine.

Time is fifty five minutes past two in the afternoon.
Despite having a bout of indecision on whether or not to inform the subject of what he will be doing tomorrow I decided that it would be better to let it sink in so he can come to terms with tomorrows test. I explained to him that this was the final hurdle he had to pass and a success will mean he can have greater personal freedom as well as make a difference in saving thousands of innocent ponies’ lives. That actually seemed to perk him up a bit surprisingly, but as an extra incentive he was offered his usual bottle of RAD.
Personally, I am quite worried about tomorrow. I have no idea what to expect so I can only pray to Luna that it goes well, this ‘operation’ Trueblood is on about sounds quite critical. Especially if he is only able to have one hybrid participate in it, because I know how much leverage he holds over a rather large swath of ponies. Not only that, when a project like Chimera is able to get subjects into the field we usually should have an almost unlimited choice in deployment, so if we can only send one on this operation then they either rate the project lowly or doubt the success of the operation itself.

Time is seven in the morning exact.
One hour until the final test begins, I am on my way with Sergeant Charger to give the Subject a warm-up of sorts so that we have the best possible edge over Two-Five-Seven.
*heavy Riverpool accent*
You’re smeggin right we’ll have the best possible edge over it Doctor. All my recruits have ended up at least twenty percent fitter when I’ve finished with them and if this ‘two-five-nine’ is what you make him out to be then I don’t doubt him being able to succeed. Nopony I deal with will lose a hoof-fight if I got anything to say about it!
I appreciate your enthusiasm Sergeant but remember that unlike what you normally guard in the upper tiers of the facility what you see, hear and do today is to never be repeated to another soul other than myself or anypony else with Black-Tier clearance. Understand?
Yeah, yeah I understand Doctor. Let’s get this over with.
Here we are, I’ll be observing and if you feel that you can’t handle him then let me know and it’ll be sorted out.
*click*THUNK*
I hear you loud and clear Doctor.
Good luck.

Now to the observation chamber.
.
.
Alright, Sergeant Charger is currently standing about five metres away from the subject and both he and the subject are warily eyeing one another.
*voice echoed because of a microphone*
Sergeant we don’t have all day so if you will continue please, be aware that while he can understand every word you say he is unable to speak. Subject Two-Five-Nine; remember what we agreed earlier this morning? Please do everything Sergeant Charger instructs.
*click of the microphone being turned off*
*voice tinny because of speakers*
Alright, umm, Two-Five-Nine is it? I want you to do exactly as I do but if you find that it’s too easy just poke me or whatever.
*hiss*
Is that a yes? Ahh let’s just begin.

Time is forty-three minutes past seven.
The sergeant seems to be really working Two-Five-Nine, and there have been no incidents as of yet. While I would enjoy seeing how well a hybrid could adapt to social situations, I’m afraid I’ll have to cut this workout short.
*voice echoed because of a microphone*
Thank you sergeant for your cooperation, it is much appreciated and I’m sure that Two-Five-Nine appreciates the assistance. You can take your leave now; we need to take the Subject to the test chamber.
No, thank you Doctor. This was weird yet amusing experience, if you need me or my team for anything in the future just ask.
Your welcome Sergeant, two-five-nine I will be with you in but a moment.

Time is fifty minutes past seven.
I’ll just put you on the side here.
*sound of the recorder gently hitting a surface*
I have given explicit orders to subject two-five-nine to NOT kill the other subject, even if it isn’t a fight to the death we have never seen two hybrids fight it out and there’s bound to be accidents. However, I did tell him to fight like he means it; I want him on whatever Trueblood has planned. I’ve got a feeling he’s the right one for the job…
*sounds of a muffled voice followed by a loud tinny voice from a speaker*
Good morning everypony, you all know what we’re here for. So without any further delay, security teams if you would please escort the test subjects to the areas I have highlighted in the test chamber.
.
.
Well, that IS a surprise. If I had to guess going off from what I can see then with those large drooped ears, overly sharp teeth and over-sized paws. Oh and she’s kept her hind hooves? Amazing. Definitely a diamond-dog hybrid, wonder how Lightning Bay got clearance for that, I remember those hybrids were just too unstable.
.
Subject Two-Five-Seven, designation: Jade and Subject Two-Five-Nine your final test is to assess your combat capabilities in a live situation. When I give the signal you are to engage with one another until one gives up or until I order you to stop. There are no rules. Ready?
Begin.
.
I completely forgot about giving Two-Five-Nine a designation. If I’m honest it looks just like an animal fight in there and I – *light-hearted mares voice*
Well, well, well good morning Doctor Bow. What do you think of Jade?
What do you think you’re doing in my observation room Bay?
I thought I could get a better angle on the test in here, plus we haven’t had a proper conversation in weeks.
Look Doctor Bay, if you’re here to discuss our respective Subjects then you’re going to be disappointed. I’m more interested in seeing watching than talking.
That does remind me, why haven’t you given Subject two-five-nine a name yet?
No reason.
You forgot didn’t you? Haha, I thought as much!
Can we get back to observing please, it seems that ‘Jade’ just got half an ear taken off.
WHAT?! Ha! Two-Five-Nine just had his rear leg snapped like twig.
You’re getting a bit too hyped up about this Doctor. And in about…ten seconds take another look at that leg.
.
.
How’s that possible? Health potions aren’t allowed…unless it’s regeneration? That’s unfair, this is one-sided!
You’re overreacting again, there’re no rules remember and just because he has regeneration doesn’t mean it’s one-sided. Oh, scratch that I think. Yes he has, ‘Jade’ is about to give in.
That’ll tear her legs off she has to give up!
He won’t go that far, look he just broke the bone. Anyway, don’t you think that on the battlefield they’ll both be extremely effective Doctor Bay? Not to mention an army of them if we get approval for more.
*sigh* Yes I suppose so -
Subject Two-Five-Nine, continue please.
What?
Subject Two-Five-Nine, she hasn’t given up. If you do not comply then I will be forced to fail you and incompliant subjects will be terminated immediately.
You can’t be serious, Jades’ legs are broken how is she supposed to give up? The buck does Trueblood think he’s doing?!
*sounds of hooves hitting against glass*
You can’t kill her! Please! This isn’t right!
I was hoping I wouldn’t have to do this…Subject Two-Five-Nine if you terminate her yourself then I’ll give you a bottle of Sparkle-Cola RAD.
That idiot, this wasn’t a test to determine who the better hybrid is. He wants to see if the other project was a success!
Other project?
I’m sorry Bay but it’s classified, what I can tell you is that what Trueblood’s attempting down there won’t work. Two-Five-Nine will not kill Jade unless he actually wanted to.
Wha-
Subject Two-Five-Nine is to be terminated, security teams please hold him in stasis until I can authorise his termination. Doctor Red Bow come too my office. Now.
I’ve got this fiasco to sort out Bay, I’ll…buy you a coffee tomorrow?
Umm, yeah. Sure why not.

Time is ten minutes past six in the evening.
I had to endure an earful from Trueblood earlier with him going on and on about how he thought I said Mesmer was a success, how lying to him made him look like an idiot and that I won’t make it to tomorrow morning.
I replied that if he read my reports thoroughly that not only did Mesmer succeed but there were associated…conditions that came with it. By Luna I even reiterated them to him! It’s not my fault he never mentioned that he wanted to be the one able to control Two-Five-Nine, but that doesn’t matter now. What matters is that I’ve got to see what I can do to bring Trueblood around and bring the Subject back out and into operations.
*sigh*
When did this recorder become a diary?
