Moment of Truth

"Just a moment, I need to find it again, I can't remember this one too well. It usually isn't ethical to use." Purple explains, flipping through the book.

I look to Elliot, wearing my face of surprise.

'Oh my god' I mouth to him.

He raises his eyebrows and nods, turning back to the book. He appeared to be pretending he could read some of those Chinease looking symbols.

"Oh, found it. Right here." She says, face dug into the page.

"Alright, this might be tricky. I can probably do it." She explains.

"Probably?" Elliot and I ask in unison.

"Well, there's always a chance of getting the wrong spell, or using an incorrect measurement of energy." She continues.

"And if those happen?" Elliot asks.

"Well, the nearest spells are invisibility and invincibility, but there are a few other spells around it. The worst spell that I could cast would be a very fast, and very powerful magic push. Which, I will be very careful not to do." She assures.

"That doesn't make me feel much more safe, somehow." I speak.

She shrugs. "It's for your own good. On the other hoof, too much magic may result in an endothermic or exothermic attack. Which would both do harm." She continues.

"Endo-what?" Elliot asks.

She thinks for a moment.

"It could... Theoretically... Burn or freeze you. But that's highly unlikely with me casting it." She explains.

Huh, so much for trying to comfort us about this weird shit.

"And when did I even agree to this?" Elliot asks.

"Well, you didn't really. But I doubt you'd want to be restrained or exiled as an alternative." Purple almost threatens.

Enough to shut him up, though.

"Alright, I got it. You two ready?" She asks.

"Not even close, you haven't even told us what this spell will do yet! Not like I trust this magic shit period, but this is crazy." I snap.

"Oh, the spell! Right. This is designed to allow me to enter your minds, in a way. More of a telepathic connection, where we could read each other's thoughts. It will help me diagnose some information about your condition." She explains.

"Hey! My mind's private, lady!" Elliot shouts.

"Please, I won't check anything you don't want me to. I just need to confirm for myself that you are indeed harmless." Speaks Purple.

"Noooo way." He persists.

'Not even for a scooby snack? Hah, I crack myself up.'

"I suppose if you absolutely won't take it, I could bind you. Which would make for a less pleasant trip to Canterlot." She threatens again.

"You're trying to make me nervous? We kill things for a living, lady!" He argues.

"Elliot..." I call.

"What, Grayson?"

"Shut the hell up, please." I ask, trying not to sound as annoyed as I am. "And Purple, that's a no-no. I can't let you compromise mission intelligence. This is private information, and putting it at risk is not just wrong, it's treason in every matter. I simply am not able to consent to this. I'm sorry, but you need to find another way." I speak.

She seems to think about this information for a while.

"Are you positive you can't find trust in me?" She asks, doing her best to look cute.

Yeah, not happening.

"Yes, I am. Sorry, but this can't proceed. There has to be more logical ways of proving our innocence." I say.

"None I'd feel reliable enough with. I may be forced to restrain you two." She speaks, dissapointed at her loss of spell.

"Do what you have to do, but I hope you understand that arresting us would be considered an act of aggression towards the country. If you didn't deliver us back, that is." I explain.

"Are you threatening me?" She asks, squinting her eyes at me.

"No, not directly. But if you, figuratively speaking, were to get caught taking us captive by our superiors, you'd be facing technology that you don't look to fit to handle." I warn.

"We're very well equipped, in case you hadn't figured it out, we can use magic offensively." She demonstrates by blasting a coffee cup off of the table behind her, without even looking. It quickly pulverized into a dust, blowing onto the floor.

"Oh? We have bombs, that can be dropped from so high you wouldn't have any way to stop it. Some of these bombs in question, are capable of instantly pulverizing any lifeforms for hundreds of miles, melting cities, turning deserts to glass, erupting like a second sun on land. I'm not saying America would just take it that far for us, but if you want to start a large war with that sort of technology, to test the government's limits, perhaps. I can't stop you." I slowly speak, sounding as threatening and serious as possible.

"Oh, and I suppose that would be a threat." I add.

I glance to the side to see Elliot glancing between us like a kid who's about to watch his first fight. Giddy to see me finally pissing off Purple.

She leans back a little bit, shifting into subtle nervous body language. Hardly enough for me to detect.

"You're bluffing, those cannons are your only advantage." She demands.

"Cannons? Oh, you mean firearms? Guns? Well, we do use those alot. But we could always just bomb this place with mortars, artillery, the whole bit. Hell, with enough long range explosives, we would hardly need to bring a gun here. This is all going figuratively, of course." I continue.

She sits back a while, thinking over it all. She finally swallows.

"Fine, I won't bind you, but if you attack, harm, or endanger a single life, I'll personally handle it as an act of aggression against us." She complies, failing to sound confident with her attempted backswing.

I hear Elliot whisper to himself "Hohoh my god."

"Good, now, let's move on like this never happened. I'm already on edge, and I sure as hell don't trust you, or the townsfolk a single bit. The sooner you get me out of here and back to my station, the sooner you can be left back to doing whatever it is you do. Alright?" I speak.

She visibly bites her tongue, before taking an agitated, deep breath.

"Alright. Now, here's what's going to happen, I can move you to Canterlot tonight, which I'd rather not do yet. Or we could hold off another night for sake of science. It'd be very useful to study your race, so that we may further ourselves." She explains.

'Egghead...'
