The change

Icefire sat up in his cloud bed, and shook his head. He had just woken up from a deep sleep, which didn’t refresh him at all. It was because of a nightmare- a recurring nightmare, to be exact. Almost every time he went to sleep, he would dream that he had become a mare. He shuddered- the thought of him becoming a female pony scared him. A lot. A loud, obnoxious beeping began to sound, one that always got his attention, started to sound. He looked over to his alarm clock, which had a sticky note attached to it that stated that he needed to look over to his calendar. Looking over to the calendar, he read that he had a meeting with Twilight Sparkle today. He grinned- Twilight was a very good friend of his, one whom he had known since he was little. Rolling out of bed, he stretched and began to prepare for their meeting.
Later, he raised his hoof to the door of the library. Before he could make a connection, Spike opened the door. “Hiya Icefire!” the purple baby dragon exclaimed happily. Ice laughed. “Hey-o, Spike. Is Twilight here?” Spike nodded. “Come on in!” Ice followed the dragon inside, where he met Twilight, who was, as usual, reading a book. “Ahem.” Twilight looked up. “Oh, hey Icefire! Thanks for bringing him in, Spike!” Spike nodded, and left the room. “What did you need to talk to me about, Twi?” Icefire asked. Twilight looked down at her book, spun it around, and pointed to a certain spell. “This is what I wanted to talk to you about.” Icefire squinted at the book. “I.... can’t read this. The print is too small. What is it?” Twilight giggled. “It’s just a little spell- nothing really major. Will you help me out? Plllleeeaaasssseee?” Twilight pulled the puppy eyes on Ice. He shook his head. “I’m not saying yes until you tell me what the spell is. I wouldn’t know what I would be getting myself into if I said yes.” Twilight pouted. “But you can trust me! I’m your friend!” Ice shook his head. “Sorry, Twi. Tell me what the spell is, and maybe I’ll say yes.” Twilight shook her head again. “No. I want it to be a surprise! Please do it? Pretty please?” She pulled the puppy eyes again. Ice bit his lip, his will breaking. After a moment, he shook his head. “No, Twi. Sorry.” Twilight pouted. “Fine.” Ice sighed. “I gotta go. See ya later, Twi.” He let himself out.
A few days later, Ice was seated at the counter of Sugarcube Corner, nibbling on a vanilla cupcake. Pinkie hopped over to Ice, and grinned. “Hiya Icefire! How are you? What’s up? You look sad. Why do you look sad? Nopony should ever be sad!” Pinkie kept talking, and Ice gave her a look. Her hair deflated. “Sorry, Ice. Really, what’s wrong?” Ice sighed. “Twilight and I haven’t been talking very much. I’m not that upset, it’s just really weird, not talking to her.” Pinkie’s hair poofed back up. “You could talk to me! I love making new friends and talking!” Ice laughed. “Thank you for the thought, Pinkie, but it’s just not the same. I appreciate it. But, if you could put a word in for Twilight from me that I would like to keep talking to her, that would be awesome.” Pinkie nodded. “I sure will! Do you want another cupcake?” Ice grinned, and nodded. “Sure! Can I get one with rainbow icing?” (REFERENCE!!!!1!!!)
Later, Ice made a stop at the library, hoping to talk to Twilight. He knocked on the door, but didn’t get a response. Letting himself in, Ice noticed the library was unusually... dark. And cold. “Twilight? Spike?” There was no answer. The white pegasus lit a candle, and began to look around. Soon, he noticed a small pastry- a cupcake- on a table, with a note underneath it. Ice cocked his head, put down the candle, and read the note.
‘Icefire,
I’m sorry about the way I acted before when asking you to let me test out that spell. I should have told you what it was. Anyways, I’m sorry again, and as a peace offering, here is a cupcake that Derpy has made, especially for you. I would have made one, but... you know how talented I am at baking. Hahaha. Anyway, I hope you forgive me, and enjoy this!
~Twilight Sparkle’
Ice looked at the note suspiciously. This didn’t seem like something Twilight would normally do. Usually, she would apologize in person. And how did she know that he would find the note? Ice raised an eyebrow, and shook his head. There was no use worrying about this- Twilight would explain soon enough. Besides, there was a free cupcake! He couldn’t turn that down. Icefire took a big bite of the sweet, chewed, and swallowed. After a minute, his vision began to blur. “What the...” Ice never got to finish his sentence. His eyes fluttered closed, and he fell to the ground, passed out. The cupcake where Ice had taken a bite began to glow bright pink/purple, the same color as Twilight’s horn when she casts a spell.
A few hours later, Ice opened his eyes. He blinked multiple times, trying to remember where he was. When he remembered he was at Twilight’s, he stood up. He would have walked right out of the library, but he didn’t. He felt... different. Weird different. Picking up the candle he had before, which was now mostly a nub, he walked around, trying to find a mirror. After a few minutes searching, he finally found one hanging between a few bookshelves. Ice put the candle down on a coffee table next to the mirror, and took a look at himself. His eyes widened, and he opened his mouth to scream. And scream he did.
“TWILIGHT SPARKLE! WHAT THE BUCK HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?!?”
What Ice saw in the mirror wasn’t him. Well, it was, but different. Very very different.

He was a mare now.

“TWILIGHT SPARKLE. WHERE THE BUCK ARE YOU?!” Ice screamed, looking around the library. Then he (or should I say she?) heard something coming from the basement, “And then the Daring Doo rushed to grab the Goblin’s Goblet!” Twilight read aloud. Ice kicked open the door, and flew down the stairs. She came to a short stop, folding her wings in tightly when she was close to Twilight and Spike. “TWILIGHT. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!” Ice spun around quickly, showing that he had turned into a she. Twilight giggled, and Spike was gaping. “I see you found the cupcake! How was it?”
Ice glared at the purple unicorn. “How was the cupcake? Well it tasted like strawberry. But that’s besides the point! You turned me into a bucking mare! Why would you ask about a cupcake, when...” Then it hit him (her) “You enchanted the cupcake!?!?!?! Now I’ll never be able to eat one ever again.” Twilight rolled her eyes. “Oh, relax. You’ve helped me with a spell- now I have to help you with something!” She smiled. Icefire glared.”Alright. How about you help me with getting this spell off?!?” Twilight shook her head. “Anything besides that. I can’t take the spell off of you right after it was casted- if I do, either it may become permanent, or I could screw it up and potentially harm you.” She scratched the back of her head. Ice raised an eyebrow. “If you do harm me, how bad would it be?” Twilight’s eyes widened. “No. I am not taking that chance.” Ice pouted. “Ppppppppppllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssseeeeeeeeeee?” Twilight shook her head. “No, sorry. I’m not about to do that.” Ice pouted again. “Fine!” She turned, and ran up the stairs, up into the main room, and out of the library. How am I going to act like a mare? Ice asked himself. “Spike!” Ice shouted up the stairs. “Coming!” Spike rushed down the stairs. “What do you need Twi-” Spike realised it wasn’t Twilight. “Ice is that you?” Spike asked skeptically. “Yes it is,” Ice responded. “Twilight turned me into a mare and...” Ice hit Spike to knock him out of his trance. “Spike! I’m still a stallion inside!” Ice couldn’t help but blush though. Oh my Celestia, I have overactive emotions, definitely going to get Twilight back for this. “Sorry Ice it's that you’re just so beautiful, here look.” Spike handed Ice a mirror, She realised that she did look rather beautiful. “I guess I am.” Ice would’ve asked a mare out that looked like this, but she had her sights on another pony. “You challenge Rarity with your beauty, but since I know you’re a stallion. She still wins.” Spike admitted. “Thank you...?” Ice chuckled awkwardly. “Anyway, do you know the book that has the counter spell for this?” Ice asked, a pleading look in her eyes. Spike shook his head. “Sorry, Ice. I don’t. Twilight does, but she doesn’t let me go near it.” Ice sighed. “Dang it. Thanks, though. I think I’ll leave, let her calm down. Maybe then she’ll switch me back.” Spike nodded. “Good idea. See ya, Ice.” The baby dragon winked. Ice laughed, and noogied him. “Sorry, dude. You’re too young for me. See ya.” With that, Ice flew out of the library, and out into town.
A few days later, Ice sat on top of a few clouds, just overlooking the ponies below. She felt someone land next to her. Looking over, she saw a cyan blue pegasus with a rainbow mane. “Hey there, stranger. You look new to Ponyville! I’m Rainbow Dash. What’s your name?” Ice sighed. “Rainbow, it’s me. It’s Icefire.” Rainbow raised an eyebrow. “Ice? What in the good name of Celestia happened to you?” Ice sighed again. “Let’s just say that because of Twilight, I can’t eat another cupcake again.” Rainbow kept her eyebrow raised. “Alright.... Hopefully you don’t re-meet Pink-” She couldn’t finish her sentence. There was a loud gasp from below that kept Rainbow from finishing. “YOU CAN’T EAT CUPCAKES ANYMORE?! WHAT CAUSED THIS CRIME?!?” Less than a minute later, Pinke was up next to the two pegasi, on her flying bike. “Oh, hi Pin-” “Oh, hi there new friend! I’m Pinkie Pie! I see you’ve met Rainbow Dash! I’m going to-” “PINKIE. It’s me! Icefire! Calm down!” Pinkie laughed. “You’re not Icefire, you silly! Icefire is a stallion! You’re a mare!” Ice shook her head. “I got changed into a mare. Because of a cupcake.” Pinkie gasped again. “A cupcake caused this? Impossible! Unless it was a magic cupcake! Then who would use a magic cupcake like that on you?” Ice gave Pinkie a look. “Someone that you know. (Now you’re just somepony that I used to know!)” Pinkie returned Ice’s look. “Okie dokie lokie....” She started to float back down. “Come to Sugarcube Corner! Then you’ll eat another cupcake! Ours aren’t magic! They’re just delicious!” Her voice was decrescendoing the more she talked, until her voice couldn’t be heard. Rainbow laughed. “Well, the hyperest part of reintroducing is over now. It should be calmer and less sugary-induced now.” Ice laughed. “Agreed.”
Later, Ice went around, and re-introduced herself to the others. That way, she wouldn’t have to deal with all the drama later. The responses she got were different- Applejack welcomed her the same way she did when she first met Icefire, Rarity insisted on making her a new outfit, and Fluttershy shyed away from her, then warmed up to Ice more than when she was a stallion. But, the responses were to be expected. Ice was just happy to get that out of the way.

“And that’s what I wanted to talk to you about, Fluttershy.” Icefire said, finishing up her story. “Oh I never would have guessed that’s what happened.” Fluttershy stated. “I feel sorry for you, it must be painful to live as a different gender.” While Fluttershy was wondering what it would be like to be a stallion, Ice was walking to the door. “I’ll see you Wednesday!” Ice reminded her about their appointment. “Okay see you then!” Fluttershy shouted quietly.
