After Stasis

June 04, 2142. New Exodus Division Base 33-01, Somewhere hidden in California.
“Intruder Alert," alerted the intercom.
Jonathan Xavier looked at a monitor and moved towards the stasis chambers to barricade the door. He quickly ran to the nearest control panel and directed all power towards the room. As he looked around, he discovered the intruders killing all of the NED members on the base he was in, one by one. It was a slaughter. He then realized something.
He was the only New Exodus Division member left alive at the infrastructure, other than the people in the stasis chambers.
As he took a second to realize what was taking place, the intruders began to break his barricade down. It would only be a few minutes before they destroyed it. He thought about what he should do. They were probably going to shoot down all the people in here. Only... They hadn’t cut the power down. He set about to order a lockdown to the stasis room, and he safely got into the main grid before the other intruders. Phew.
“Jonathan? Jonathan! Buy yourself some time! Hurry! I’m sending the stasis chamber into space! Head into a pod now! Hurry–” Static followed after.
Jonathan didn't have enough time to react. He immediately went to the closest pod available and entered it. That sweet voice was the final thing he heard.
March 20, 5040. Stasis Grid 33-01, Somewhere in US/White Tail Woods.
There were some blinking lights before the intercom cracked up to life in an automated voice.
“Good Afternoon. It’s March 20, 5040.”
“Wake up initiated on #2203-57B.”
“Global Population... Zero.”
“Time elapsed since re-entry is 75 minutes.”
Lily Xavier woke up from her stasis pod, coughing from the debris and dirt that was around her pod. What exactly had happened here? Why were they in space? Lily looked around and walked towards the exit which was, to her surprise, closed up. Huh. She was then greeted by a hologram of her... father.
“Lily! I knew you would've woken up. Look,” the hologram said, before it shifted for a split second, “after the re-entry, I noticed something else. I have blocked up the exit for that. Just... wake your friends. I have your DNA signature set to wake them. Any questions?”
“What... what’s going on, dad?” asked Lily.
“Humanity’s gone. We were ambushed by terrorists. Just you and your friends along with a few stasis chambers were salvaged,” the hologram replied before it flickered off.
“Dad?” she cried, “are you there? Blasted cryostasis pods and their functions!”
Silence.
She sighed. She was alone once more, but not for long. She headed towards the control panel, which was mostly gone, save for a DNA scanner and a button. There was also a note, which she read.
Your curiosity will get the better of you.
~Xavier
Lily smiled slightly. Her father never left her, not this very moment yet. She then proceeded to the DNA scanner and let it scan her DNA.
Lily then stepped backward as she looked at the stasis chambers and saw the pods move from their locations. Once they stopped moving, four figures rose from the pods that were near the floor. She went closer and discovered that it was her friends. She smiled again.
“Mark? Ruth? Jack? Blake? GUYS!” She went over right away and hugged them. “It’s been so long since I’ve seen saw you all!”
“Yeah,” Jack replied, “been so long. How long, though?”
Lily looked at the others before blushing in embarrassment. “Let me check first, guys.”
Lily went to the console and pressed the available button. It was wired into two features, one to tell the time and the other to open the exit. She noticed this and was confused. Blake came by and noticed the control panel.
"Woah," said Blake, "it looks like it was smashed by a hammer an hour ago."
"Nice eyes, miss 'Blacky Blake.'" Lily noticed it as well. "Well... Dad did save us from some terrorists, according to the history log..."
"Terrorists?" Mark asked, walking up to the two girls. "Really?"
"Well... yeah," Lily replied, "terrorists. The path's open! Look!"
Lily pointed to the exit, which was now free of anything blocking it, and the five headed outside, only for them to get shocked. Jonathan was standing outside! He greeted them with a cheerful smile.
"Yeah, I know." Jonathan looked around and gazed back. "Like what I did? I've set up a perimeter around the entry so that you guys can enter and exit safely back to the stasis chambers."
He pointed to said radio, which was pretty makeshift. Jack got closer and noticed something.
"Sir, can I do something?" asked Jack. "I'm going to fix this radio. Can I?"
"Sure, " said Jonathan with a smile before muttering something.
"What?" Mark asked.
Before Jonathan could speak, he was interrupted by the sound of people talking coming from the radio. Everyone looked at him in surprise. Lily giggled a bit, recognizing what her friends could do. They could've formed their own job group if the rules had allowed it, but they did it anyway for fun, as they were still 15. Nevertheless, it was an unbelievable feat Jack had accomplished.
"How did you fix it?" Jonathan asked, befuddled.
"Just moved a few pieces," Jack answered, "that's all."
"Also explains the broken panel," Ruth added.
As they listened to the radio, they could hear families, gossip and what seemed to be people playing games. And one of the radio channels they passed was a funky song which caused them to headbob a bit. After a few seconds, they stumbled on a private station where a woman was calling for Jonathan. He and Lily recognized the voice.
"Sarah/Mom!" they cried out in joy as they connected a microphone and connected to the station. "You're okay!"
"Woah, hold your horses," Sarah replied. "I understand you guys have re-entered Earth. My scans are picking you up... over a makeshift radio."
"Yeah, about that, honey..." Jonathan was nervous.
"Forget it. We still can't re-enter because of reasons," Sarah interrupted. "Since you guys have arrived on Earth, do us a favor, please?"
"Ma," said Lily, "go on."
"Go and scout the place, please?" Sarah asked. "Please?"
"I'm already collecting information here," Jonathan responded. "Tell them I'll give them some information in a few days. See ya, sugar." He then faced the others. "Say goodbye, everyone!"
As they bade her farewell, Lily couldn't think of anything to say. She could hardly think of what to say to her parents' alive workmates. And then when it was her turn, she sang a small song.
"Things may come and things may go,
Some go fast, and some go slow,
Few things last, that's all I know,
But friendship carries on through the ages..."
She finished singing to look at her friends before finishing, "See you soon, Mom."
"See you soon, sweetie." Sarah replied before the radio channel dispersed into static.
