Chapter-29 Nothing to lose[Edited]
It had been three days since the dragon's appearance. It had taken its sweet time going trough the mountains. Night had made sure not to go hunting, not because he feared the dragon he just didn't want Luna to use her magic on him again. On the fourth day of no meat, a royal guard in gold armour arrived in the camp. He immediately demanded that he spoke to Luna and pushed his way through the other guards to the tent where Luna was resting.
Upon entering the door, he and the other two guards that were attempting to stop him, were greeted by a gaze that the two guards of the night had nightmares of. Night began to unsheath his sword still staring at the three intruders before ordering them to leave and close the tent behind them.
Slowly the three of them left, without looking away from Nights gaze or making noise fearing that it might be seen as a form of aggression. Unfortunately in their compliance they did not exit the tent before closing the tent. It was another hour of intense staring between the guards and Night before Luna woke up to the peculiar sight.
In her panic of the unusual situation, Luna used her magic and screamed in a demanding voice."WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?"
Night was the first to speak, as the guards were still frozen in fear despite the princess's voice.
"I was guarding you while you slept when some intruders entered." As Night said this, he got up from his sitting position and the guards shivered as they backed away slightly, still keeping their eyes on the human.
"AND WHY DO YOU GUARD OUR SLEEP?" -Luna asked genuinely surprised and frightened that Night observed her when she was most vulnerable. The guards breathed a sigh of relief as Nights gaze moved to the princess becoming all the more frightening.
"I always do, I Can't risk you getting hurt. Stop using your magic!" Night said in a calm and clear tone that left the tent feeling colder. Upon the guards hearing this, the guards felt like they had a repeat of their journey to the camp site. Luna made it even worse by blushing and stuttering as she looked away.
"Oh sorry and um thank you for p-p-protecting me," As she said, this Luna was reminded of the three guards as their armour clashed. Both Luna and Night directed their attention, to the fidgeting guards before Luna's voice was heard again.
"So um guards why did you barge into my tent, and why is a day guard in our camp?" The princess asked as she composed herself.
The guards had been quiet for a few moments before the golden armoured guard spoke.
"Her Majesty, Princess Celestia asks that you Princess Luna, and Night Shadow, and your guards. Escort and assist the element bearers in dispersing a dragon that has decided to take refuge in a nearby mountain.
You are only to protect them if the dragon turns out to be beyond their capabilities, otherwise merely observe. It is to increase the elements power. The element bearers shall await your arrival in Ponyville by the end of today." The day guard said in a snobbish Canterlot accent.
"Tell my sister, that we accept her request, and please all of you refrain from attempting to disturb my rest in the future, as you noticed Night is rather protective. Please relay the information to your fellow guards as well. Night guards pack up camp we need to head for Ponyville." Luna said with a rather indifferent tone.
"Yes, princess," The three guards said in unison, before they swiftly opened the tent and exited to fill out their orderes.
Once the guards had left, Luna spoke to Josh. "Well, Josh I suspect that you may get your wish to kill a dragon if the element bearers fail."
"I have no intention of providing assistance in the matter. I will not serve you and kill someone that you provoked, only because you wish them dead. So who are these element bearers, which I am observing?" Night said in a tone that conveyed his displeasure at having been forced to delay his training so that he could do Celestia's biding. He was even more angered, by the fact that he was denied meat for three days, because of Luna. Now it was by Luna's whim that he would potentially fight a dragon because it would help her plans.
"You have already met the elements, the night you arrived. You fought five of them or whatever you did to keep them distracted." Luna said remembering that she never did learn what he did to distract them without hurting himself or them.
"If the dragon is as strong as you claimed, they would be nothing but a burden," Josh said in annoyance.
"They will have the elements, so it shouldn't be a problem"- Luna said confidently.
"That's fine then, but if I am forced to come to their rescue, you will owe me a favor Luna. It seems to be the easiest way to get things from one another. A favour for a favour, unlike with magic you can forget any promises that are not bound by a favor. Don't worry, I won't attack Celestia, as a part of pretending to be in love with you. Its the only way we can trust one another, you see?" Night said in a calm voice.
"That seems acceptable, but you will stop changing our agreement," Luna said. angry that Josh had changed their agreement yet again, and how she was powerless to stop him.
She had to find something he cared for and use it to ensure that he didn't cause her any more problems. As far as she knew the only thing he cared for was freedom, and she couldn't give him that as the bond had truly become indestructible after her sister attempted to break it.
With their new agreement, the two gathered their tent and supplies and walked to the guards. Once the guards were gathered, Luna spoke in a commanding tone.
"We shall provide protection for the element bearers. Guards think of this as a chance to redeem your honour for your shameful misconduct during your test for the night guard." As the guards heard this, their faces turned to fear from the memory, and they wavered as they saw Night standing next to the princess and replied out of fear rather than loyalty.
"Yes, princess we will do our best,"- In complete unison that would make most choirs jealous.
