A Guide to the World of Terra: Book 1
The Everfree
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe Everfree is a wild and vast forest to the south of Canterlot, the capital of Equestria. The forest stretches from the city all the way to the Appleloosa Plains. The Everfree then branches out to Ghastly Gorge in the west and Dodge Junction in the east.
The forest itself has an aura of danger about it. This is due to it's denizens, such as the Centaur, Manticore, and Dragons. The forest itself has a very diverse ecosystem, for example the side closer to Dodge Junction is extremely muggy and humid. This climate makes it perfect for tropical species of Avis Draco Equus, dragons, and birds.
The forest is inhabited by rogues and hermits. The forest avoids taxation because of the myths surrounding those who enter. One very popular citizen of the forest is an older zebra by the name of Zecora. She lives closer to Ponyville, and as such, she must bundle up to keep warm.
Many of the trees in the forest are towering skyscrapers, almost monoliths from ancient times. It is even believed that the trees roots have grown into each other and that the land itself is alive with the spirit of the Everfree. This myth has yet to be proven by any outside source and the residents refuse to give any knowledge about their home.
The forest has many natural oddities about it that suggest intelligent design. The trees themselves grow unnaturally tall, taller than any tree in the known world. Their are also Natural arches and caves that bear a resemblance to shrines. The text on said shrines is unreadable due to many years of erosion.
One of the major ways to travel the Everfree is by boat. An enormous river cuts through the Everfree and leads to Saddle Lake. In fact for the price of seventeen bits a steam ship will cruise you through the Everfree. Guided tours are also offered for an extra twenty bits.
Guards often patrol the Everfree for criminals seeking to escape into the wild land. Many theorists suggest that the Everfree is a secret government base meant to test out genetic modification. These theories have been shot down and denied by Celestia and Luna but some still remain skeptical.
In conclusion my studies have lead me to believe that we know next to nothing about the Everfree at all. Most of what we hear are fairytales and what we see is very limited.
