The war that's determined by sea, air, and heroic actions in the Pacific
Chapter 4: The beginning of the Pacific Theater.
Previous ChapterNext ChapterDecember 8th, 1941.
Pearl Harbor layed in ruins. The Japanese succefuly suprised the American fleet at Pearl Harbor and the American population and their allies were shocked to the event. Smoke filled the sky, the USS Oklahoma was capsized, and fires on the airfields and ships in the harbor. The Americans were raising the sunken ships except for one: the USS Arizona. It was already at the bottom and was leaking oil out of it. Over 2,403 men were dead and 1,178 others were injured. This was a day of infamy (The event of total evil that happened). But the American's were lucky. The repair facilities, oil storages, the Headquarters, maintenance facilities, the submarine base, and the torpedo, bomb, and ammunition storages were not targeted. And the most important: the American aircraft carriers were not at Pearl during the attack. Which means the Japanese made a huge mistake to their attack plans. Now the U.S. and other nations alongside it have declared war on Japan. And the allies are now prepared to go to war.
President Roosevelt gave a speech of Pearl Harbor and was heard all around the world. On the same day Great Britian declared war on Japan with the American's. On December 11th, America declared war on the Nazis in Europe. Great Britian now had an ally in the Pacific Ocean and in Europe. But on that day Japan changed the art of war on that day. The Japanese attacked the English battleships the HMS Prince of Whales and the HMS Repulse with level-bomber aircraft. It now proves that naval warfare didn't belong to dreadnought's (Battleships), it belonged to aircraft and aircraft carriers.
December 20th... Lieutenant Crowe and the mane six had orders to go and help the marines and pilots at Wake Island. The island was being harassed by Japanese Cruisers and Destroyers. Crowe's and the mane six's task was to help the general escape the island. On December 23rd Wake Island fell to Japanese hands and the general, Crowe, and the mane six made it to the USS Yorktown as the rendezvous point.
Back at home America became a mighty industrial country. The Great Depression ended and all Americans were called on helping the war. Thousands of men signing up for the military and millions of new jobs had opened. Now they had factories everywhere. They produced every supplies, vehicle, aircraft, ship, and equipment over the charts that the world has never seen before. America was now had an advantage of supplies over the Japanese.
May 1st, 1942. USS Yorktown.
"Sir we intercepted a Japanese message! They plan to invade Australia and other island near it.", the first lieutenant of the Yorktown said.
"I'll warn the Australians. Tell Crowe and Callaham to ready their fighter and attack groups.", Fleet Admiral Nimitez said.
"Yes sir right away!"
"Also were meeting up with an Australian-American Cruiser group in a couple of days just to let you know."
"Alright sir."
May 7th, 1942. The Coral Sea.
On the carriers USS Yorktown and the USS Lexington everyone was preparing their fighter and attack (bombers: Dive and torpedo) planes on the deck. The flagship of the U.S. and Australian cruiser fleet were where the Japanese were but they don't know where the carriers are. So now Lieutenants Callaham and Crowe are leading the attack. The mane six were on the Yorktown's bridge and were with Fleet Admiral Nimitez. "So you all want to see how battle on the ocean is like?", Nimitez said to the ponies.
"Yes and we would like to spectate if that's all right with you.", Twilight said to the Admirl with his uniform on him.
"Your allowed to watch, ask questions, and look around but don't touch any of our equipment for our planes."
"Alright we got it sir.", Applejack replied.
"Lieutenants make sure all CAP (Combat Air Patrol) and bomber groups are airborne and ready to go.", Fleet Admiral Nimitz said Lieutenants that were in their new SBD Dauntless dive-bomber aircraft.
"Yes sir Admiral we're on it!", Crowe said to Nimitez.
"This is Lieutenant Callaham off the Lexington all squadrons sound off!"
(Note: When they say 'group' the squad leader says it. Just in case if your wondering.)
"This Wildcat squadron groups 1-4, we're ready to engage!"
"This is SBD Dauntless groups 5-8, we got some 'presents' (bombs) to deliver to our enemies!"
"This is TBF Avenger groups 9-12, we have our 'fish' (torpedoes) and ready to drop them!"
"We got everyone Callaham. Let's go!", Crowe said to Callaham.
"Follow me men!", Callaham said to every aircraft except for Wildcat squads 1 and 2 for CAP around the carriers defense.
(Combat air patrol is when fighters are scouting the area ahead of allied ships and when they see enemy planes they can shoot them down faster and farther than any ship's AA guns mounted on them.)
"They say our new Avenger torpedo bombers are more effective than our past Devestator aircraft.", the first lieutenant of the Yorktown said.
"They always say thing like that First Lieutenant and let's hope their true about these new aircraft.", Nimitez said.
"This is Lieutenant Callaham we got enemy scout sea-planes incoming. Crowe can you help shoot them down?"
"Yes sir I'm available!"
Enemy 'Pete' sea-planes were closing in on the bomber's formation. Suprisingly all of the Pete's went down in less than two minutes due to their light armor on them.
"Nice work everyone! Now let's go find the Jalanese.", Callaham said.
"Callaham I see the enemy carrier! It has 4 destroyers as an escort.", Crowe said to Callaham.
"Thanks Crowe, now everyone attack the carrier until it dies!", Callaham said to the whole group of aircraft.
The battle waged on and the Japanese carrier the Shoho was sunk by Callaham's and Crowe's squadrons. But the next day was going to be harder. The Japanese were striking back and were attacking the allied fleet.
May 8th, 1942.
"This is the USS Yorktown. We got a huge enemy strike inbound both dive and torpedo bombers heading towards the fleet! We need all planes to refuel and return and protect the carriers!"
"All squads this is Lt.Callaham, everyone return to fleet and help the carriers! Besides our bombers need more payloads so land fast!"
"Alright Callaham me and my fighters at the carriers will engage the enemy.", Crowe said.
"Here they come Lieutenant!", a squad member from Crowe's wing said.
"Enemy dive-bombers incoming!", the Captain of the USS Lexington said.
Japanese dive-bombers released their payloads and hit the Lexington's engine room and the ship became a sitting duck.
"We're hit and our engine power is out! And the deck is on fire everywhere we can't have any planes land on us. And our damage is critical!"
"Evacuate the Lexington captain!", Fleet Admiral Nimitez said while on the USS Yorktown.
The Lexington was badly damaged. Fires were on the flight deck and the ship was a perfect target for enemy planes. The destroyers that were escorting the Lexington helped out with the evacuation and were successful. The Lexington later exploded and was left to sink.
"Well Crowe we lost the Lexington but we better land and help the admiral.", Callaham said.
"Yes Callaham. Goodbye Lexington you were a fine ship, we'll miss you.", Crowe said.
(This is the dialogue after the battle.)
The Japanese plan to control both the Coral Sea and Port Moresby has come to a close. Without our allied code dealers we wouldn't have stopped the Japanese plans. They had a tactical victory but, we had a strategic victory and an allied victory for us. We lost more ships but the Japanese lost more planes. So now the Japanese don't have the air power that they need to invade our Australian allies. We now head to Midway where the Japanese plan to invade the island and we shall stop their tracks there.
