The Life Of Lightning Flash

                                                                                           Chapter Six

Two years past and my life was going great! I was a fantastic student, I had become one of the best flyers in Wingbury Academy and my friends loved me, just like I loved them. My family was well and my father had got a new job as a Pre-School teacher. But the thought still lingered on my mind and it had been for the last two years; could me and Rainbow Dash be more than just friends? Would asking her out ruin our friendship? Would it ruin the trust between us and our other friends? I was afraid. Afraid that if she disagreed with me I would lose my bestest friend and risk everything with my friends.

I hadn't told anypony about these feelings which made it worse on me. But one day I decided I wanted to tell somepony, but who? I wrote to my mother about this but she just told me that if it is meant to be than it will happen. But I couldn't just wait for a miracle to happen, could I?

Maybe I should tell my father? Then again my dad did have a bad habit for getting too involved with other ponies problems. I mean I didn't want him asking out Dash for me! That would look awful. But I needed to tell somepony that could actually help me.

It was a Wednesday and Dash was busy training for an important race against another school with FireSpeed so she missed lunch that day. I on the other hand wasn't involved in that race so I went to lunch alone. I didn't mind eating on my own it kinda gave me time to just think.

As I bought my lunch I went to find myself an empty seat but noticed a very lonely Fluttershy sitting on her own which was strange because she usually visits the nearby forest below where she would eat her lunch.

I walked over and sat beside her. "Hey Fluttershy! I'm suprised to see you here for lunch." I said with a smile.

"Oh hi Lightning. Well I've got this exam coming up and I need to study extra hard. I'm..k..kinda nervous about the whole thing." She replied before taking a bite into her salad and then turning a page in her study book.

"Well I'm sure you'll do fine!" I replied enthusiastically while giving her a friendly nudge.

Maybe I could tell Fluttershy about me and Dash? I mean she's good at keeping secrets and is very understanding.

It was settled, I would get Fluttershys advice on what to do!

After taking a bite out of my sandwich I turned to Fluttershy who's eyes were focused on every last word in her book. "Hey Fluttershy can I tell you something?" I asked her.

"Sure Lightning Flash. What's on your mind?" She replied in her ever so soft and calming voice.

"You gotta keep it a secret though okay?" I asked while scanning the tables near us with my eyes.

"Oh..uh.. I'll try." She said nervously. Fluttershy was always unsure about keeping secrets and thought she would always spill the beans by accident when in fact she never did.

"Well....its about Rainbow Dash you see." "What's happened? is she hurt!?" She interupted with worry.

"No she's fine! But I...well..I don't know how to tell you." I replied unsurely. Fluttershy was staring into eyes  waiting to hear what I had to say. Then she laid her hoof upon mine on the table trying to help me keep calm.

"Just say it how you're thinking it." She said with a soft smile.

"Me and Dash have always been really good friends, we've always been there for each other and I don't want us to stay friends. I...I want her to be my special somepony!" I burst out in a slight whisper.

Fluttershy's facial expression went from interested to relaxed and happy.

"That's so....ADORABLE!!!" She shouted and then noticed the other pegasai who had turned their heads to towards her. "Oh..uh..sorry." She added.

"Uh..thanks I guess. But I need your help! I don't know how to tell her!" I replied while my cheeks grew slightly red.

Fluttershy looked out of the window when I suddenly felt two hooves touch my shoulders.

"Hi Lightning!" Shouted Kensei from behind giving me quite the scare.

"Jeez Kensei you startled me!" I responded with a smile of relief.

He sat down beside me and asked "So what ya talking about? I heard Fluttershy shout which we all know is out of the ordinary!"

Fluttershy turned towards him and smiled before looking back at her book.

"Can ya keep a secret?" I asked him.

"Of course!" He replied.

"Well I've always felt like me and Dash could be more than friends but I haven't bee..."

"Been able to tell her! And you want me to help!" Kensei interupted with excitement. "Uh.. sorry do carry on." He added.

"Well yeah and I need yours and Fluttershy's help. But nopony else must know!" I replied.

"Uh..well.. I just remembered that Hearts and Hooves day is this saturday. Maybe you could show Dash your feelings then." Said Fluttershy.

"I completely forgot about Hearts and Hooves Day! Well done Fluttershy!" I replied with a huge smile. Fluttershy smiled and turned back to her book.

"Way to go Fluttershy! You always know what to do!" Said Kensei trying to build Fluttershy's confidence also causing her to blush a little as she carried on reading.

It's not really a surprise that I forgot about Hearts and Hooves Day. I mean I've never done anything for it before.

"I could help arrange a secret date for you and Dashie!" Added Kensei with a grin.

"A secret date huh? Sounds good but how exactly would it work?" I replied while scratching my head.

"Well..I could set up a romantic lunch for you and Dash at her favourite restaurant. I could tell her they've got a special daily offer or a meeting with some pony. That's sure to make her go!" Kensei responded with a giggle.

"That sounds as if it could actually work! Thanks Kensei!" I replied with a hug.

"Who dares doubt the mind of Kensei Coal!"Heheh!" He replied.

"I'll make the arrangements with the restuarant." Added Kensei.

And so it was agreed. I would admit my love to Dash on Saturday. I just hoped everything would go without a hitch and that she felt the same about me! Who knows maybe she's too nervous to ask me! Wait what am I saying! Rainbow Dash nervous? Never!

Until Saturday I acted very normal and calm around Dash while sometimes hinting towards Hearts and Hooves Day. Such as asking her "Got any plans this saturday?" She would respond with "Nope! No races, no schoolwork. Just a normal day." She obviously didn't realise it was Hearts and Hooves Day.

Finally Saturday came and not too soon or late either! i woke up early and had breakfast with my father. We sat opposite each other while eating this always made conversations easier.

"Got any plans today? You know it's Hearts and Hooves Day right?..Ah who am I kidding you've probably got all the mares head over hooves falling for you!" He asked with a huge grin on his cheery face.

"Uh..maybe..I don't know." I replied but I didn't wanna tell him. I was still nervous in case it all messed up.

"Don't worry son you don't have to tell me! Just remember to be yourself and she'll see the real you!" He replied before taking another mouthful of his breakfast. This made me feel a lot better inside.

I finished breakfast and went to see Fluttershy in the forest below. I had to be at the restuarant at 1 pm sharp. It was just past 11 am now so I had some time to kill.

I found Fluttershy tending to a family of squirells near their home while I hovered closely above. "Hey Fluttershy! How are you today?" I asked.

"Oh hi Lightning. I'm fine. Just tending to my woodland friends and all. Are you nervous about your date?" She replied while quickly looking up to me and then back to her squirells.

"Yeah kinda. But I'm also extrremely excited about it." I replied.

"It's good to be nervous you know. It'll make you feel that much better when you've told her. If..she agrees that is...I-I'm sure she will though!" She responded with an encouraging smile.

"Thanks Fluttershy. I'll leave you to your squirells. See ya!" I said as I flew off back to CloudsDale.

I headed home to grab my gift for Rainbow Dash. It was a rainbow deisgned gem. I don't know how the merchant I bought it off of got it and I didn't care! I just hoped Dash would love it..and love me.

By the time I got the gem all wrapped up and ready it was just past 12 O'Clock. I went to the restuarant and waited at the designated table. The place had only a few other customers. I waited patiently for Dash's arrival. It had just struck 1 pm and I watched the entrance as Kensei walked in followed by Dash.

"Told ya your mystery guest would be waiting for you and with a special dish too! His at your usual table and I'll leave ya both alone!" Said Kensei as he left.

Dash walked over only noticing me when she got close. "Lightning? What are you? Wait!" She asked with a very confused face.

"Please sit." I replied.

She sat and couldn't stop playing with all of the fancy table decorations.

"Kensei just randomly came up to me a few minutes ago and said to follow him because someone was waiting for me here and that it had something to do with Hearts and Hooves Day?" She asked with the same confused look on her face. "Please explain Flash."

I took a deep breath before saying "Well Rainbow Dash your the most awsome friend I've ever had! We've always been there for each other, we love the same things, we have the same cool friends and...well...your also the most beautiful, coolest, and greatest pegasus I've ever had the pleasure of knowing!"

At this point Dash was trying really hard not to blush at my words but her attempts were useless. "I want to be more than friends. I want to share the rest of my life with you! So I have one question for you." I said and then I took another deep breath before Dash said "Would you like to be my special somepony?"

She had took the words right out of my mouth! She wanted what I wanted!

"You've felt the same way?" I asked with a feel of relief and excitement.

"I was never sure of it but when you joined Wingbury academy I felt this weird but warm devotion towards you! At first I didn't pay much attention to it but the feeling grew more and more intense as the years past but I never wanted to say anything to you! I was worried  you had somepony else in mind." She replied with a smile of relief.

Suddenly my natural instinct kicked in and without any more thought I dived over the table, almost knocking off our plates and kissed Dash on the lips. It felt so right! It felt so awsome! Dash didn't resist it and let our connection of love continue. As I looked into her eyes I felt more joy than ever before, more than when I was flying, more than that day at the stadium.

As we stopped I sat back into my seat and noticed a single tear drip down Dashie's left cheek. She wiped it away with her left hoof.

"Well...I guess that sums it all up then." I said with a strong smile of relief, joy and everything else that is great!

"Heheh! I..I love you Lightning Flash." She replied while blushing and smiling axactly like me.

With another sigh of relief and the same smile on my face I replied...

"Not as much as I love you."
