How I Lived In Equestria
Chapter 3-7: Shadow's "Vacation"
Previous ChapterNext Chapter“Twilight, seriously... you can’t eat all the ice cream in the freezer in one sitting...” Shadow sighed. “All that sugar isn’t good for you…”
Twilight raised an eyebrow at her husband. “Oh yeah? Watch me.”
Shadow deadpanned as his wife made a run for the kitchen, her horn glowing for what he assumed would be to open the freezer door before she arrives there. He immediately chased her down to the kitchen, his entire mind going blank once he had saw all four full jugs of differently flavored ice creams floating out of the freezer, and onto the table.
Twilight squeed as she made a rather large spoon appear from nowhere with a spell, walking up to the table to devour the contents of all four jugs.
Before she could get any closer, however, Shadow swiftly took all the jugs of ice cream, flew away with all of them, and proceeded to throw them out the balcony, and then flew back to the kitchen.
Twilight blinked. Switching her field of view from the table to her husband and back every few seconds, as she tried to process what just happened.
“I did it for your own good, Twily. Yours, and the foal’s.”
“For fuck’s sake, Shadow…” Jorge groaned. “Haven’t you learned that you can’t take away food from a pregnant mare by now?”
“No. I have not.” Shadow shook his head. “I’m only trying to do her and the foal a favor. But that’s besides the point.”
“You know my doors are always open, Shadow. I don’t exactly have a guest room set up yet, but you’re more than welcome to sleep on the couch.” Jorge pointed at the couch behind him.
“That couch?”
“Yes, that couch.”
“The one you’ve had to bleach countless times for some reason?”
“Uh… Well… I have a futon I could grab from the attic…”
“You have an attic?” Shadow raised an eyebrow.
Jorge nodded.
“When the fuck’d you get an attic?”
“I’ve always had an attic…” Jorge shrugged .”I just don’t use it very often. Mostly just for storage.”
“Storage? As in blea—”
“No, not as in bleach.” Jorge interrupted. “Get your mind out of the gutter.”
“Oh…”
“I hide my bleach in th—”
“I DON’T WANNA KNOW!”
“Then don’t bring it up!” Jorge retorted.
“Geez, Jorge…”
“What?” Jorge raised an eyebrow. “You were the one who brought it up. You brought this upon yourself, to be honest…”
Shadow rolled his eyes in disappointment. “Whatever. Did you use that futon?”
Jorge blinked. “No.” He scoffed. “I have a perfectly good couch, which is tremendously more comfortable than a futon. Why the hel—” He paused for a moment, finally letting Shadow’s sentence sink into his head. “Oh… Why the hell would I want to use the futon!? The couch is still more comfortab—”
“Because what haven’t you used in here?”
Jorge deadpanned. “I may have a… overly healthy sex life… But that doesn’t mean we just do it everywh—”
“You’ve done it on the table, haven’t you?”
“Who wouldn’t?”
“The shower?”
“It’s convenient!”
“The floor?”
“Who the hell has sex on the floor?”
“...The couch?”
“Didn’t we already cover this?”
Shadow looked at the couch behind Jorge, then back at the cuban. “Riiiiight…”
Jorge slowly began to rub his face with a hoof, trying not to slam his face in the worst facehoof ever. “Look. I haven’t used the futon. It’s still in its original packaging and everything. We can go up to the attic real quick, move the couch, and set it up.”
Shadow sighed. “Nah, then we’d have to assemble it, and make the bed, and then probably deal with the sounds of you and Dash in your room somewhere…”
”We don’t do it everyd—
“So, instead. I have a better idea!”
Jorge gave the canadian a knowing look, raising an eyebrow slightly. “And that is?”
“I’m going to take a trip to Cloudsdale!”
“Why?” Jorge’s eyebrow raised up to it’s maximum height.
“I’ve never been there before… So, y’know, this’ll be something new for me!”
“You’ve never been to Cloudsdale?” Jorge’s eyebrow somehow began pushing its limits. “I’ve been there like… twice, now…”
“That’s cause you’re married to the mare who was born there…”
“True…”
Shadow paused for a moment, thinking about how he’d go about actually making his trip to Cloudsdale. “Say… Since you’ve been to Cloudsdale before… How’d you like to tag along with m—”
“No.” Jorge deadpanned. “I can’t just leave Dashie here while she’s napping and pregnant!”
“Why not?”
“You have no idea how cuddly she gets! I mean, I don’t mind it, but still.” Jorge retorted. “If I leave her now while she’s napping, I’ll never hear the end of it…”
“Why? Cause she’ll get lonely and shit?”
Jorge narrowed his eyes. “Unlike you, I don’t have a wife who’s hormones turn them into a she-demon.”
“Super cuddly and never hearing the end of it if you don't provide sounds a lot like a she-demon to me..."
“That’s if provoked. You don’t have to provoke yours, you just have to exist.”
“Well then just guide me to cloudsdale, then you can come back if you really want.”
Jorge groaned. “Fine…”
“How the fuck’d you get stuck in a cloud!?”
“I don’t fucking know! I was just looking at something, and the next second... Boom! Cloud!”
“You’ve had these things for how long, now?” Jorge lifted a wing for emphasis.
“Uh…”
“And of all the screw ups either of us could’ve made, you go and get stuck in a clo—”
“I get it!” Shadow shouted, interrupting the cuban. “You don’t have to rub it in so much, god damn…”
Jorge shrugged. “Whatever. My work here is done though.” He flared his wings, bending his legs slightly as he prepared himself to fly away. “Have fun with your little trip around Cloudsdale.”
“Woah woah woah!” Shadow cut the red pegasus off guard. “Where the hell do you think you’re going!?”
Jorge blinked. “Back home. Dashie’s probably already awake worrying abou—”
“Well too fucking bad for her!” Shadow interrupted. “You’re my tour guide!”
Jorge deadpanned. “I never agreed to—”
“Look! A dil— Ooh! A pet shop!”
Jorge raised an eyebrow, looking over to where Shadow immediately pointed at, noticing its cute “pet shop” logo, with a small dog on top of the “pet”, and a cat and a bunny on top of the “shop”.
And then, he looked directly adjacent to the store, noticing certain… other objects, showcased in a small corner of the window.
He deadpanned. “Uh… Shadow?”
“Hm?” Shadow looked at the cuban with a raised eyebrow.
“I don’t think that’s an actual pet shop…”
Shadow blinked, looking back over to the pet shop, only to notice a pegasus mare walking out of the store in what appeared to be… a… “cat outfit”.
He paused for a moment, trying to process what he had just seen.
“Was...that a...cat costume…?”
“I… Uh…” Jorge tried to find a good response that doesn’t make him look like a horrible husband. “I think so…”
Shadow looked at Jorge, then back at the ‘pet shop’, then back at Jorge. “Wanna go take a look inside?”
Jorge sat in silence for a second, not having noticed what Shadow had said. Only for it to sink into his head seconds later. “What?” He blinked, having just realized what his canadian friend has just suggested. “No, I don’t wanna go take a look inside!”
“Why not?” Shadow raised an eyebrow. “Sounds like fun!”
“How the hell does it sound like fun!?”
“How does that not sound like fun!?”
“Shadow!” Jorge shouted. “You’re married!”
“So?”
“So!?”
“Yeah. I don’t see any problem with it…” Shadow shook his head.
Jorge rolled his eyes, walking away from the grey pegasus. “Whatever…”
“Where the hell are you going!?” Shadow practically barked at the cuban.
“Away from this place!” Jorge shouted back. “That is not a place for me to be near.”
“The fuck you mean by that!?”
“I’ve already said what I’ve needed to say, Shadow!”
“The hell you have!” Shadow stomped a hoof on the ground, looking past Jorge, noticing the other stores that were near his path. “This ‘pet shop’ place looks…”
Jorge stopped in his tracks, hearing the canadian trail off from his sentence. He looked back at where the stallion originally stood, only to find him nowhere in sight. The cuban blinked, raising an eyebrow at his friend’s sudden disappearance, then turned his head back to his path, and found Shadow several feet away, slamming a few bits on a donut stand.
“I need like ten jelly donuts, one chocolate donut, and one banana donut.”
The mare managing the stand looked at the bits, then back up at Shadow, and shrugged. Grabbed a small box, turned around, and began grabbing the donuts the canadian asked for.
Jorge blinked. “Seems legit.”
Once Shadow had gotten the donuts, he walked back over to Jorge, nomming on one of his jelly donuts.
“What were we talkin’ about again?” He raised an eyebrow, continuing to eat his donut.
Jorge blinked. “Uh…”
Shadow looked around, preparing to wander about Cloudsdale some more, until he noticed a rather large building not too far away. He immediately pointed at it, and gasped. “Ooh! What’s that?”
Jorge looked at the direction Shadow had suddenly began pointing at, and raised an eyebrow at what he found.
“Uh. That would be the weather fact—”
“‘KAY WE’RE GOING THERE!”
“Wha—” In an instant, Jorge was cut off from his thought as Shadow quickly bolted towards the factory, with not a single care in the world.
“...Why am I not surprised…?” He groaned, running after the canadian.
“I didn’t think they started selling tickets just to go on tour around the weather factory…” Jorge facehoofed.
“Who cares? This shit is amazing!” Shadow grinned. “I paid for the tickets, we’re going in!”
Jorge rolled his eyes, groaning at how childish his friend seemed to behave.
The two continued on their path inside the weather factory, Shadow would bounce around similarly to Pinkie as he merely gawked in awe at the wonders inside. From flowing rainbows, to machines compressing water to make storm clouds.
Jorge, having seen the inside of the factory a couple of times, simply looked around, finding a few changes from the last time he was here.
“Ooh, what’s this?” Jorge could barely hear being said. He looked over to where he thought the voice came from, noticing Shadow completely ignoring the rather large “warning” sign, walking closer to a large machine, which almost looked like it was lightly covered in...ice.
Jorge ran up to the warning sign, trying to get close enough for Shadow to be able to hear him. “Uh… Shadow? I really don’t think you should be getting near that…!”
“But it looks so coooool!”
“Shadow…!”
“But it looks so cold… Kinda like Canada…”
“Shadow!”
“The fuck do you want!?” Shadow stopped in his tracks, sharply turning his head at the cuban.
“Did you not read the sign!?”
“What sign!?”
Jorge deadpanned, tapping the sign with his hoof.
Shadow squinted his eyes softly, trying to read what was written on the back of the sign. He read through the large red “WARNING” plastered onto it. He simply paused for a moment.
“Oh.” He blinked. “So that’s what it said…That kinda makes sense now...”
Jorge raised an eyebrow. “What’d you think it said?”
Shadow’s eyes shot wide open. “Uh, nothing.” He shook his head quickly, sheepishly walking back up to the cuban. “Let’s go, nothing to see here.”
Jorge watched as Shadow walked right past him, pretending this event never happened.
The cuban prepared a thought, opening his mouth to say it aloud to the canadian. “Well—”
“Ooh! What’s this for?”
Jorge rolled his eyes, not even trying to question his friend’s actions.
The two soon found themselves in an outside area, with a few small pools of pure rainbow around them.
Jorge knew this area all too well, having gotten yelled at by his wife--who was simply his marefriend at the time--for wanting to try to, quite literally, taste the rainbow. Other than her, that is.
“Jorge…” Shadow poked the cuban with a hoof. “You never told me that rainbows were actually a liquid…”
“Err…” Jorge scratched the back of his head. “They’re… kinda not…”
“But I can clearly see how ‘liquidy’ they are!”
“...’liquidy’?” Jorge cocked his head to the side. “The fuck’s that supposed to mean?”
“Hell if I know.” Shadow shrugged. “I was put on the spot, what do you expect from me?”
“To not make up words like ‘liquidy’.” Jorge bluntly replied.
“Yeah, well…” Shadow looked over at one of the pools of rainbow. “I’mma taste some of it…”
“That’s not a very smart idea, Shadow…” Jorge spoke softly.
“Why’s that?” Shadow raised an eyebrow at the cuban.
“Well. Dashie always told me not to taste it, cause of something that happened to Pinkie…” Jorge tried to explain. “I always forget what it was…”
Shadow paused for a moment, thinking about his next move. Only to quickly shrug it off. “Don’t care.” He slowly dipped a small section of his hoof into the rainbow, pulling back to see it covered in all the colors of the rainbow, something which simply dumbfounded him. Soon, he quickly remembered his goal, and quickly gave his hoof a lick.
Jorge merely watched as the canadian tasted the rainbow in his mouth. He raised an eyebrow at the lack of any kind of reaction. “So?”
Shadow paused for moment, suddenly beginning to feel a soft burning sensation in his mouth. Which quickly escalated into burning his mouth as if there was fire, unleashing its flames of fury into his mouth. His face quickly shifting from one color, to the next, cycling between each color of the rainbow.
Jorge stood watch as Shadow continued having his mouth burn in flames. He raised an eyebrow at the canadian’s strange reaction, switching his focus from Shadow, to the pool.
As the burning finally begin to dim, Shadow was finally able to calm down. Once he was brought back to his senses, he quickly noticed as his cuban friend had already dipped his hoof in the rainbow, and tasted it.
Moments later, Jorge had no reaction to it. With a shrug, he spoke. “Welp. I think we should be heading back home.”
Shadow blinked. “...Seriously?”
“Hm?” Jorge raised an eyebrow.
“That shit was spicy as hell!”
“Eh. Just a little bit.” Jorge shrugged once more.
“But… but…”
“Clearly, you underestimated this cuban.” Jorge chuckled, walking towards the exit of the factory. “Anyway, like I said, I think we’ve had enough fun in Cloudsdale…”
“Twilight! I’m home!” Shadow cheerily called out, closing the castle’s door behind him, leaving nothing but a grin on his face.
At first, Shadow had expected his wife to not even bother greeting him at all, knowing how she gets now with all her hormones flipping shit.
Instead, Twilight slowly poked her head out of a nearby room, her eyes bloodshot, and parts of her face are damp.
“You’re… You’re back…” Twilight sniffled. “I… I didn’t think you’d come back…”
Shadow raised an eyebrow. “Twi…?” He slowly walked up to her. “Were… Were you crying…?”
Twilight didn’t respond for a moment, until she could muster the strength to slowly nod, trying to resist from sniffling again, only to fail, and look down in disappointment.
Shadow slowly placed a hoof on her chin, lifting her head up slowly until she looked directly at him. “What’s wrong, Twily?”
Twilight sniffled once again. “It’s just… I’ve been treating you like crap during this entire pregnancy… And… I even threw you out of the castle…”
“Heh.” Shadow chuckled softly. “You were expecting me to leave, or something?”
“A little bit…” Twilight nodded gently. “I didn’t think you’d be able to put up with me during this whole thing…”
Shadow leaned in, gently kissing her forehead. “If I can put up with Ish’s bullshit, and my other friend’s stupidity for years. I’m pretty sure I can handle eleven months of hormonal raging from my wife…”
“Shadow…”
Shadow simply smiled, staring into his wife’s eyes as he comforted her. “Don’t worry about it so much, Twilight. I married you for a reason. I love yo—oof!”
Next thing he knew, his pregnant wife had pinned him down onto the floor, being completely on top of him. He blankly laid there, watching as his wife nuzzled into his chest.
...This would end up being a long night.
“Dash?” Jorge raised an eyebrow, slowly pushing the door closed with a rear leg. “I’m home!”
He slowly walked deeper into his home, hearing a faint voice coming from the living room. He eventually made his way there, noticing an empty couch, and the TV playing what seemed to be an imitation of his world’s “Dr. Phil”.
The topic of the show seemed to be completely irrelevant to today’s events. He had half-expected the show to be covering a topic similar to today’s events, or a topic almost identical.
He raised an eyebrow at the show, preparing to shrug it off, and reach for the remote to turn it off.
“Did you even stop to consider that I would worry about you?”
The cuban blinked, turning his head back at the source of the voice.
“Did you even think that something could’ve happened to me while you were out doing Celestia knows what? I’m six months pregnant for pete’s sake! If anything happens I can’t just fly to the hospital by myself!”
Jorge simply stayed silent, turning his whole body around to face her as he listened.
“Do you even know what time it is?”
Jorge paused for a moment, closing his eyes as he calmly tried to think of the time.
“It’s nine o’clock, Jorge... “ Dash grumbled. “I go and take a nap at eleven, and when I wake up...you’re gone.”
“I can explain.” Jorge calmly stated.
“Mhm.” Dash hummed in a sarcastic tone as she nodded. “Go on. Tell me. Just what was so important that you couldn’t even give me a warning before you just upped and left?”
“Well… You see—”
“Were you getting tired of me?”
“No?”
“Am I being too caring for you to be comfortable, or something?”
Jorge simply narrowed his eyes. “Seriously?”
“I dunno, Jorge.” Dash shrugged. “I’m just trying to figure out what would’ve caused you to just leave without any warning and not come back until nine o’clock.”
“Dash, it’s not any of that. You know how I am.” Jorge shook his head. “I enjoy the time we spend together. You know I love it when you get all sappy and all…”
“So then what’s the problem, Jorge?”
“There’s no proble—”
“So why’d you up and leave?”
“Shadow dragged me all the way to Cloudsdale…”
Dash paused for a moment. “Shadow dragged you all the way to Cloudsdale, huh?” She raised an eyebrow.
“Well, like, he dragged me out of the house, but then he forced me to go to Cloudsdale with him.”
“How did he ‘force’ you, Jorge?” Dash’s eyebrow began to raise a little higher. “Did he find some spell to use against you or something?”
“Err... No…?”
“So then he didn’t really ‘force’ you now, did he?”
“Well. I mean… He kept threatening to throw me into the dungeon for about a week…”
Dash nodded slowly, her eyes narrowed as she listened to her husband’s excuse. “Uh-huh. And what were you two doing in Cloudsdale, hm?”
“Shadow wanted some sort of ‘vacation’, and demanded me to be his tour guide.”
Dash scoffed, turning around as he began to walk away. “Whatever, Jorge. If you’re not gonna tell me what’s going on or what you were doing the entire day, and then try to blame it on one of your friends... Then you can have fun sleeping on the couch.”
“This is my house, thoug—”
“It became ours a few months after I moved in with you, remember?”
“Right…”
“Have fun on the couch, Jorge!”
“But—”
*SLAM!*
Jorge blinked, trying to process what had just happened. He tried to tell the truth, and it only got her more pissed.
He groaned, hopping onto the couch, grabbing the nearby remote, and began flipping through the channels, having been left with no choice.
“It’s the Darin—”
*click*
“She got absolutely mad at me for no reason!”
“And how does that make you feeeeel?”
*click*
“Y’know, Joe, you could always just talk to her aga—”
*click*
“Banan—”
*click*
“Have a douchebag friend? Trying to find a way to ditch them? Well it sounds like you need—”
Jorge pressed the button one final time, muttering to himself all the while. “I’ll find it again if Ish does something retarded…”
“You don’t think she hates me, do you, Speedy Silver?”
“Not at all, Golden Corral, do you think after all that time you two have been together, she’s gonna leave you over something so basic?”
“But she thinks I cheated on h—”
“Have you?”
“No!”
“Exactly!” Speedy poked Golden’s head. “I say you get back over there, and you show her how much you still love her!”
“You seriously think that’ll work?” Golden raised an eyebrow. “I mean… I’m not su—”
“Of course it’ll work!” Speedy reassured Golden with a pat on the back. “Trust me.”
With the push of a button, the TV turned off, leaving Jorge in the dark room, alone. During this period of time, he was able to think more clearly on what he should do next. When he could’ve used the TV’s advice the most, it played a rip off of Dr. Phil talking about a topic completely unrelated to his situation. Now when he’s been yelled at and tossed into the couch, he’s given the TV’s magical advice.
After more contemplating, a lightbulb lit up in his head.
“I know what I must do.”
Dash laid in bed, wrapped in blankets, ignoring the fact that Linda was casually rolled up into a ball next to her. She began thinking about how she acted earlier towards her husband, while involuntarily rubbing her pregnant belly.
“Maybe I was a little too harsh…” She thought aloud. “He was probably telling the truth… And I didn’t believe him…”
“But… if what he said was true…” She stopped rubbing her stomach. “Then Shadow pulled a pretty bad move…”
Unfortunately for her, her thoughts were cut short, as she quickly heard the creaking sound of the door being slowly opened. She looked at the door, watching as her husband sheepishly poked his head into the room.
“J-Jorge…?” She raised an eyebrow, lifting herself up so she was sitting on the bed. “What’re you doing?”
Jorge hesitated, before quickly speaking up. “I… uh… I came to apologize.”
“For?”
“...You’re right... I should’ve said something, or left a note before I let Shadow dragged me out to Cloudsdale…”
“N-No, Jorge… Don’t be silly…” Dash shook her head. “You didn’t expect Shadow to come and just forcefully drag you out of your home… It’s my fault for thinking the worse possible scenario…”
“Aw, c’mon Dashie…” Jorge pouted at the mare. “Don’t beat yourself up…”
“It’s these damn hormones…” Dash sighed. “One minute I’m all happy and sappy for you… And the next minute I turn into Twilight when her hormones keep her in a demonic rage.”
“Well, you’ve been fine so far…” Jorge shrugged. “If anything, it’s Shadow’s fault for dragging me all the way to Cloudsdale… I even tried to warn him about leaving you here alone.”
“Yeah, but you can’t help but cut him some slack, anyway…” Dash shrugged back. “What with Twilight’s pregnancy and all…”
“I suppose…”
Dash continued to stare at her husband, only to break her concentration as she looked at the empty spot of their bed. “Hey.” She looked back at him, patting the empty area. “There’s still room for you, if you wanna sleep here with me…”
Jorge immediately looked at her with a smile on his face.
“I’d like that...”
