New Teacher

7th Hour. Science. Sunset Shimmer and several others were sitting in the same classroom where Mr. Turner used to be. Sunset's thoughts were busy with anything and everything. Adagio was normally in this class, but, she was nowhere to be seen. Instead all the other students were chatting up a storm, while Sunset simply thought.

But, before she could continue, Principal Celestia entered the room. "Students! If you'd please take your seats, I have an announcement to make!" Celestia said gleefully, walking over to the desk in the front of the room.

As the students took their seats, Celestia continued. "As you all know, Mr. Turner has retired, and you are without a teacher. Fortunately, we were able to find a temporary substitute, who has all the same qualifications as your former teacher. May I introduce, Doctor John Smith!"

And, a man entered, wearing a light blue shirt, tan tweed jacket, and crimson bracers and bowtie. "Hello everyone!" The Doctor exclaimed gleefully, waltzing over to where Celestia was standing. "It's so good to see you all!"

Celestia smiled broadly, as Sunset sat there with her mouth agape. "Dr. Smith is the perfect teacher to take over for Mr. Turner." She turned to the Doctor. "I've set the current curriculum handbook on the desk, so, you can just continue where Mr. Turner left off."

With one last grin, Celestia left, and the Doctor leaped over the desk, and grabbed a piece of chalk and wrote physics on the board. "Right then, physics! Physics, physics, physics! So, you have all done physics before, am I right?"

No one moved.

"Come one, if you've done physics before, raise your hands." The Doctor instructed.

No one raised they're hand.

"Really? Was this teacher a nutcase?" The Doctor asked, and opened the curriculum handbook. "Oh, that's why, you're in biology at the moment, I thought that you'd be in physics by now. Oh, you know what?" The Doctor closed the curriculum handbook, and threw it behind him. "Screw the handbook. We're doing physics."

A student raised her hand.

"Yes, you with the red hair." The Doctor said, pointing to her. "Blimey, that is red hair, and I don't mean gingers, I literally mean you have red hair. Sorry, I'm rambling. What's your name?"

"Roseluck." The red-haired girl said. "The thing is, well, we don't have physics until next quarter. Shouldn't we wait until then?"

The Doctor smiled. "Roseluck, are you aware of the Aralias Theory?"

"No." Roseluck said, shaking her head.

"The theory states that you do the difficult things first, and get them out of the way, so you can do the simpler stuff later." The Doctor explained. "That way, you can simply have it easier as time progresses. So, that what we're going to do. Any questions?"

No one raised their hand. "Right then, physics!"

For the next hour, the Doctor kept babbling about physics. Once the hour ended, and school was out, Sunset stayed. "You became a teacher?" She asked, as the Doctor reopened The Time Machine.

"I saw there was an opening." the Doctor explained, "I figured, 'what the hell' and I went to Principal Celestia's office this morning and applied."

"Why?" Sunset asked, slinging her backpack over her shoulder.

"You gotta live in the moment." The Doctor said.

"So, nothing's going on?" Sunset asked.

"Not that I know of." The Doctor looked at Sunset through his glasses. "Besides, this way I can watch the Friendship Games."

"Okay." Sunset said, smiling. "Well, it'll be good to have you. Wait, are you on the team?"

The Doctor chuckled. "Of course I'm not on the team. It's for students only. But, I can be a coach."

Sunset smiled. "You? A coach?"

"Of course." The Doctor grinned, "I can be a coach. It's relatively simple, isn't it?"

"I believe so." Sunset said. "I took a Sports Officiating class last year, and it was relatively simple."

"Good." The Doctor said. "Any idea what the events are?"

"No." Sunset said. "They haven't even shown us the field yet. It makes it difficult to practice when you don't know what to practice for."

The Doctor stood up, and took off his glasses, placing them back in his jacket pocket. "Well, as long as it isn't archery. I'm rubbish at that."

Sunset smiled. "Well, I guess I'll see you later." Sunset waved good-bye and proceeded towards the door.

"Oh, Sunset, do you have any idea where Adagio is?" The Doctor asked, stopping Sunset. "She was supposed to be in this last class, but wasn't here, and was here for her previous classes, but, she hasn't been seen since the pep rally."

"No, I haven't seen her." Sunset replied. "Although, she did get into an argument with Vice Principal Luna afterwards."

"Yes, I was there." The Doctor said. "I had a nice chat with Luna afterwards."

Sunset cocked her head to the side. "Chat?"

Luna, may I have a chat with you?" The Doctor asked, dragging Luna away from Adagio.

Luna said one last thing before turning to the Doctor. "Yes, Dr. Smith, what can I do for you?" Luna asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Do you have any idea what you just said to Adagio?" The Doctor asked, his arms folded over his chest.

"I just told her the truth, Dr. Smith." Luna said. "Is there something wrong with that?"

"There is everything wrong with that." The Doctor explained. "Do you have any idea what you just did? What you just did to Adagio?"

"I did nothing wrong, Dr. Smith." Luna said, and began walking away. "If you'll excuse me, Doctor."

The Doctor grabbed Luna's arm, stopping her. "Remove you hand, Dr. Smith."

"Luna, you just drove Adagio to tears." The Doctor explained. "She's trying to change, and yes, she has a bit of an attitude, but, she's trying to become a better person, and you won't let her forget her past. Is this how you treated Sunset Shimmer after the Fall Formal?"

Luna eyed the Doctor. "How do you know about the Fall Formal? You were not employed to us until today."

"Listen, that isn't important." The Doctor said. "What is important is right here, right now. Now, I know you, whether you know me or not, never mind how, but, the Luna I know wouldn't talk like that. What is bugging you?"

Luna pulled her arm away from the Doctor. "Why do you care about this so much, Dr. Smith?"

"Because, I care about you." The Doctor explained.

Luna pursed her lips "It's Time-Mr. Turner. The teacher you replaced. We had a...relationship. I thought it was important to him; I was wrong."

"So, that's what this is about." The Doctor said, bowing his head. He looked up at Luna, and noticed tears developing in her eyes. "Hey, listen, I know he must've been important to you, but, you have to get over it. Taking your anger out on someone else won't solve anything. If you need anyone to talk to, you know where to find me." The Doctor smiled.

Luna smiled softly. "Thank you, Dr. Smith." Luna said, gratefully, "It's odd, I've never met you before today, and yet, I feel like I've known you for a long time."

The Doctor smiled back. "You have, you probably just don't remember. Trust me, I'm a Doctor."

"A Doctor of what?" Luna asked.

"A lot of things." The Doctor replied. "Good day, Luna." The Doctor bowed slightly, and turned and walked away.

"Dr. Smith?" Luna asked, causing the Doctor to look back. "I would appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone about the details of this conversation."

The Doctor smiled. "Of course Luna. Doctor, patient confidentiality." And, with that, the Doctor walked off, leaving Luna alone.

"What did the conversation consist of?" Sunset asked.

"Oh, nothing." The Doctor said. "So, what should we do?"

"I don't know." Sunset said.

"I don't know it is then!" The Doctor said, gleefully. "Come on, let's find your friends and do something."
