The Tale of Deviant, Son of Discord
Introduction
Load Full StoryNext ChapterHello there, I just now got this journal this after a wild ride in a place known as Ponyville. Man-o-man what a trip! It sure wasn't easy getting here though. I had to come out of the shadows to actually find my place in Equestria, and that wasn't the hardest part of my journey.
I survived a blizzard, got kicked in the face (more than once!), fought my father, and was shot at with The Elements of Harmony. Yeah, pretty tough. But before I start this story let me tell you a little about myself, ok?
First off, I started my life as a small multi-color egg (Yes draconequus hatch for eggs) and I hatched somewhere along the edge of the someplace called Canterlot. As I hatched, I crawled out of my shell, and wondered around in the royal gardens maze. Some how I managed to lost in the maze, but luckily I got lost near some peach trees and a large fountain. I found out how to eat and drink very fast, (As draconequus are quick learners) but even with enough to help me survive, I was sure lonely.
I was slowly chewing a plump peach that fell to the ground, when a small bird came up to me. This was my first ever encounter with anything, I was so happy to see the bird, I even let out a small giggle. The bird came closer and closer to me, its blue feathers were so pretty in the sunlight. It jumped into my lions paw, and started chirping a calm, peaceful melody. As the small bird did this, A large number of animals came from everywhere, from rabbits, to frogs, to even some squirrels, came all around and were staring at me. They all started sniffing me and examining me, but they seemed to like me very much, they even went to sleep with me at night! long story short, when I got lost in that maze, I learned how I have a knack for communicating with animals.
A few weeks had passed and I was still living off of peaches and fountain water with my animal friends. I had gotten a little bit bigger than when I was born, but I was still very small. I was now able to walk on only two legs instead of using all four, but I was still a little new to walking, thank Celestia my animal friends were there to support me when walking. I was wondering around the maze as I normally did, until I heard noises coming not to far away. I waddled toward the noises only to find something I've never seen before, ponies. I didn't know what they were at the time but I was so intrigued by them.
I didn't want to go towards the mares, only because I was a little shy at meeting something besides animals. I heard every word they were saying, It was almost like I was studying them. As time passed and more and more ponies walked by the walls of the maze, I started to learn how to speak. I couldn't put sentences together at the time, but I said little words to animals such as come, see, and over. My vocabulary expanded very quickly and with it, my knowledge. I learned so many words and was able to speak them but my knowledge was still dull. One night I decided to venture out of the maze, and hoped on finding something appealing to knowledge.
I was wondering around the flourishing garden when I spotted a large building not far from the maze. This place was huge! I could easily get lost in their as I did the maze. All I saw was walls and walls, until I looked up and saw an open window not very far from my reach. I climbed into the open pane pushing myself up, until I managed to get up and fall down on my butt after I was inside. I walked aimlessly around the building, looking for something to entertain me. My feet were starting to ache I was walking so long, until I stumbled upon a large room, filled with books. I was so young at the time I had no clue what books were, it didn't take me long to find out though. I looked at the multiple variety of the books, so many colors, and sizes too. I was so intrigued that I took some of the books, hoping to find out what was inside them. It wasn't easy finding the window I crawled out from, but sooner or later I found the darn thing. I was still so little at the time, the drop down from the window appeared much larger than when I came up. Somehow I managed to get out of the building, lowering the books first and then lowering myself, landing on the cushion of books. I wondered back to my home in the maze dropping down the books and opening them right away. As I opened the books, I was dumbfounded, I had no clue what these markings were! I was so confused, but my animal friends helped me more than I thought.
The animals somehow helped me understand the books, crazy I know, but somehow they did it! I started to read book after book gaining intelligence with each book. It took me forever to finish the first one, but after that one all the others were so easy to me. After I was done with some books, I would go back to the building, get some more and come back and read. I kept this routine going on and on until I learned how to write and read and from the books. This made me so happy that I knew all these things, I finally had enough courage to go talk to one of the many ponies, wondering the garden when the sun is up. I slowly crawled over to one on all fours, trying not to startle the mare. I came so close to the pony, I stood up and tried to communicate with the pony, but it wasn't the response I was looking for.
"AHHHH IT'S DISCORD!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!" screamed the pony at the top of her lungs, causing all the ponies around her to panic and run in terror. I was so confused, I had no clue why the ponies were scared of me. Then it hit me, Im different from them. I was so upset at this uproar that I fled the gardens, running as far away as I could. I probably shouldn't have ran downtown though, this caused pandemonium everywhere I went. Ponies everywhere were shouting "That little monster! Go away!." "Oh no, Its the menace Discord!" "That little Deviant, why can't he leave us alone?"
I was crying as I hauled tail out of that place, leaving behind my animal friends, and all the ponies that ran away from me. I was far away from anything now, I was in an open field when I stopped running and tried to catch my breath. With tears still rolling down my face, I was so crushed at the way they reacted. Especially hearing that one pony call me that one name. "That little Deviant." It echoed in my head with pain. Deviant? Why would they call me that? I started to think that that was my name for some reason. Deviant. The echoing pain finally stopped and I accepted the name. I stopped crying, and started to wipe the tears from my face. I bulked up and accepted what the world saw me as, a horrible, ugly, monster.
I started to run again, away from the field and into something that reminded me of home. I ran miles, all four of my limbs were felt as if they were about to fall off. But with all that effort, it was rewarded to me as a new home. I was inside a dark, lush forest. It was beautiful. I decided to stay there, and grow up there with no judgement from any pony. I grew up from my old small puny self, into a new, young, and stronger body, but I somehow still looked like my old self, just taller and with a longer tail.
So there you go, all you need to know before I tell you the rest of my life. I hope you enjoy my story, this is the tale of Deviant.
It was Winter, one of my favorite times of the year. I could actually enjoy it if I wasn't freezing to death. But the way the white snow covered everything, it was simply beautiful, Even in the Everfree forest it was still beautiful. I was lucky enough to start a fire that morning, the winter winds blew left and right, back and forth. It was impossible to start a single spark. Thank Celestia that my tails scales were highly flammable, or I would have never lit that flame.
Oh sorry about that I guess I got a little sidetracked from the real story. My name is Deviant, I am a young draconequus living in the only place I can not be judged, the Everfree forest. My life is very quite, the multiple trees here make a living jungle gym for me. My physical body is much stronger than any magic I could summon, but only because I don't know any magic because nobody ever bothered to teach me any spells or tricks. I was very unhappy with my current life, being alone, nothing to talk to besides animals. My life was horrible, anyone I talked to ran away from me in fear of my Appearance. Everybody ran from me and no one gave me a chance, that is until I have a change of heart and meet some interesting ponies.
I was warming up around the fire I just started, warming up as much as I could before I froze myself to the bone in the intense winter chill. My teeth were chattering, my fur on my back was straight up, and I couldn't feel my fingers or claws in either one of my hands. I needed to get warmer, the sun was only going down, and I needed a sustainable fire, so I decided to add some shrubs and leaves to the burning brush. I could tell how cold it was, as soon as I set ten feet away from that fire, frost started to occur on my fur. I quickly hurried back to the fire with a few bushes and limbs in my arms, they extra burning fuel made the fire burst towards me, making me feel warm to the bone. But as if Karma didn't want me to be there, a large mound of snow rolled down a nearby tree, and landed on my fire. Somehow I wasn't surprised at this, "I guess thats my cue to go look for some food" I said with irritation in my voice. I spread both my wings and flew off above the forest, hoping to get a better look. I was hoping to find some kind of fruit or veggie, but nothing was in sight. the sun started to decline across the horizon, and I was about to die of starvation. "I can't find a single thing before sundown! I guess I'll try again in the morning." sadness filled me and so did starvation. But starvation was the least of my problems at this point. As soon as that sun disappeared, winter winds started appearing.
I was almost below the forest's top layer of leaves when a gust of cold wind pushed me back up into the atmosphere. "Why me?" I was starting to get a little agitated at this point. I got higher up in the air and attempted to dive down from the air, using my wings at full speed. But a large gale pushed me back up right before I was at ground. "One last time, one last time." I repeated over and over as I rose up in the air. This time I was going to give it my all, using one hundred and ten percent of my wings.
The winds were blowing aggressively, and it only got worse with time. It was pitch black outside and I could barely see 5 feet in front of me, and to top it off, it started to snow. I was trapped in a blizzard, and there was no way out. Besides just me being stuck in that vortex, some trees were uprooted and were spinning inside the cold vortex with me, But that could not stop me. I was going at maximum power, using every muscle and body part to help me escape. I decided to use every fiber of my being to try to fly out one more time, my wings going as fast as they could, the winds blowing harder and harder.
"Almost out...." I kept saying to myself, and I really was almost out of that spinning nightmare. I reached for the edge of the vortex, pushing myself out as my lion paw finally got out of the vortex. then I slowly started to progress my body, inching out of piece by piece, when I finally had just the top part of my body out of the tornado. It felt like I was about to be torn in two from that vortex.
"All... most... there.." with my wings still going at full speed. Then with my torso almost completely out of the tornado, a large tree was uprooted right in front of me. I could hear its roots snap as it was rising up from the earth. I suddenly realized what was going to happen, "Oh no" I said with fear in my voice,"Come on! Wings Go! Faster!" but it was no use, my wings were going as fast as they could and I couldn't go any faster than I already was. There was one single root holding that tree in the ground, but it didn't hold very long. I heard a large snap just as I was pulling my legs out of the tornado. The tree was spinning out of control, I was trying to get out before something happened, but I only watched in horror as the tree was within arm distance. I closed my eyes and clenched up preparing for what was going to happen, then everything around me was silent. I opened my eyes and all I could see was darkness, my ears were ringing in pain.
"uhhhh. ouch..." I groaned to my self, still inside the darkness. I tried to stand up but I fell right back down, I couldn't see anything around me. Until the pitch black was suddenly lit, It was looked like I was in a hallway of some sort. I looked around me to find large candle towers in each corner, covering almost every inch with a dim yellow light. The walls of the hallway looked like stone, and every wall was covered with pictures, of myself. I was so confused, I had no clue how I had gotten here.
"Am I dead?" I asked myself.
As those words escaped my mouth, a dark voice echoed in the room,"Mwahaha very far from it Deviant."
a large shadow appeared from a dark haze, with a long snake-like body and a long black cloak covering most of his upper body and face. The cloaked figure slowly inched toward me, "So good to finally talk to you, that storm was quite a doozy."
I was so defensive of this, How does he know I was in a storm? I asked myself. I bared my fangs and claws, preparing for what-ever this masked figure was going to do. He creeped closer and grabbed the hood of his cloak, slowly taking it off. "Well you see Deviant," his voice trailed of as he took of the hood of the cloak. "What kind of a father would I be, If I didn't know my only sons name?"
