Chapter 2View OnlineA Glimmer from the PastChapter 2The next day Starlight went in the classroom. She heard voices talking about her and felt that they were looking at her. It was terrible. She trotted to her table and sat down. Then the teacher came in the classroom: "Good morning my little ponies! Today we talk about cutie marks."Seriously?, Starlight thought, Is this some kind of a bad joke? Don't we have anything better to do? "Starlight Glimmer? Can you tell me when a pony gets a cutie mark?" "It gets its cutie mark when it discovers its special talent and finds its destiny." "Excellent!" Then the teacher started talking. "Pssst! Starlight!" Jet Set! "What?" "Don't you have a special talent? Because you have no cutie mark." "This again?" Starlight sighed. "Yes I would like to know !" "I still haven't figured out what it is." "Really? Because you are the only one in class without a cutie mark. I think you don't have a special talent." "Everypony has a special talent", Starlight replied. "Are you sure? Blank flank forever!", Jet Set said.Starlight rolled her eyes. "Blank flank, forever!" " Can you please stop getting on my nerves?" " Nope! Blank flank forever!" he continued. Starlight became angry. "Stop It!" she shouted. "Starlight Glimmer?" "Shut up!" "Don't talk to your teacher like that!" Wait what?, Starlight wondered. " But I didn't mean... ", Starlight began but the teacher interrupted her: "Go outside and think about your bad behaviour!" "But I didn't mean you!" "What are you talking about?",her classmates claimed, " You are a liar. You obviously talked to her!" "No! What are you talking about? You know what happened. I was talking to Jet Set!", she said feeling tears in her eyes. "Liar! Liar!" " I have to believe your classmates. They are the majority. You can go now!" the teacher decided. "But..." she protested. "Leave that room this instant! " Starlight ran out of the classroom while tears were running down her cheek. "This isn't fair!" She went outside the building. "What isn't fair?", Starlight heard somepony' s voice. "Huh? Who is there?" "Just me." "Who are you?" She turned around and saw a unicorn mare with a weird cutie mark. "What kind of cutie mark is that?", Starlight asked the stranger. "Well, it is a broom." "So your special talent is... cleaning?" "Yes it's terrible isn't it?" "You don't like it?" "Why should I? Do you want that your destiny is being a cleaner?" "There are ponies who don't like their cutie marks?" "Yes! I assure you THIS isn't fair! You are lucky that you don't have your cutie mark yet. You could be anything!" "I can?" "Yes. Sometimes it is better, if you don't have one or don't have a special talent at all! Oh I have to go! See Ya!" Then she went away. What a strange pony. I wonder where she came from, Starlight thought, Oh maybe I should go back to. Then she went inside.
Chapter 3View OnlineA Glimmer from the PastChapter 3The next two hours felt like days. The teacher talked about how she earned her cutie mark. Starlight could hardly keep her eyes open but she knew that she had to pretend that she is intrested to avoid more trouble. She was reliefed when she heard the bell. Now I can go home!, Starlight thought. At home she greeted her mother. "How was your day honey?", her mother asked. "Boring", Starlight replied. "Why?" "Because we talked about cutie marks the whole time! That was so boring. I don't understand why they are so special for them." Her mother answered: " You will find out some day." "But what if I don't want a cutie mark?", Starlight said, "it might turn me into a meanie like my classmates are." "What makes you think that?", her mother wondered. "They think that they are something better because they already got theirs and I'm the only pony without one. Then I'm mean as well to those who haven't got their cutie marks." "I assure you Starlight if you don't want to become like them you won't become like them", her mother replied. "Are you sure?" "Yes I am",her mother promised. "Okay, I believe you but what if I will end with a cutie mark I don't like?", Starlight worried. "Don't worry about it dear. " -Her mother hugged her- "You don't have to be afraid." Starlight thought: I hope so... She went to her room. She looked out of the window and sighed. Its not easy being alone. Starlight decided to go outside. Maybe I get an idea. Outside she walked through the town and looked around. Suddenly she bumped into somepony. "Hey watch where you going!", the pony shouted. "I'm s-sorry", Starlight stuttered. "Oh it's you again", a voice said. Starlight looked up and recognized the unicorn she met this morning. "Oh... What are you doing here?", Starlight wondered. " My work? What did you expect? That I walk through this town to look after the birds?" "Sorry I asked... ", Starlight said sarcasticly. "Anyways" the unicorn began, "Where are your parents? Don't you know that it's dangerous for a filly at your age to go outside alone? Does your mother know about it?" Starlight said nothing. "Oh I know. Of course not!" "But you are here, don't you?" "Yes but I'm a stranger. Don't you have any friends?" - Suddenly tears appeared the mare's eyes. "Are you okay?" Starlight asked. "Yes!" "But you look sad.You don't have friends, don't you? Me neither. "No. I lost a friend because of this!" -She pointed at her cutie mark- "It destroyed my whole life!" "But how did you lost your friend?",Starlight wanted to know. "It all happened when we earned our marks. Her mark was a mask which means her talent is acting. Then I got mine as you can see it was a broom. I got it when I helped my parents to clean the house. I was unusual fast. At this time I got my mark." -She paused. "Oh... " Starlight knew excactly how the mare felt. The mare continued: "At this time I knew I had to become a cleaner. The next day I met my friend. She got her cutie mark too. When I saw it I knew she will leave. It was a heartbreaking moment for each of us. So here I stand: alone and without friends." " I'm sorry for you... ",Starlight replied. At least the mare's friend did care to say goodbye , Starlight thought, unlike him... "You don't have to feel bad for me.I don't know why I told you that!" Then the unicorn mare went away. "Wait!",Starlight shouted but the other unicorn ignored her. It's no use. She won't wait. Starlight was sure. Starlight went home. When she arrived an angry mother was waiting for her. "Where have you been? I told you not to leave without my permission!" "I'm sorry mum", Starlight excused. "I was worried about you." her mother said angry. "I'm sorry I just wanted to do something else than reading books." "You could have asked me." "I'm so sorry. I won't do it again!" "All right then but first go in your room" Starlight's mother commanded. "Yes mum", Starlight replied and went to her room. Starlight couldn't stop thinking about the unicorn mare. Looks like I'm not the only one who lost a friend because of a cutie mark.
Chapter 4View OnlineA Glimmer from the PastChapter 4The next day Starlight saw Jet Set and Upper Crust bulling an earth pony filly. "So you don't know what your cutie mark means?", Upper Crust said, " How pathetic!" Now they bully a pony with a cutie mark?, Starlight thought, This ends now! "Hey!", Starlight shouted. "What do you want?", Upper Crust asked. "Leave her alone!" "Why should I listen to you, blank flank?" Upper Crust replied,"Get lost!" "No I won't! I have enough of you two! First you bully me and now you are bulling a pony who already has a cutie mark? You are the worst!", Starlight shouted. "I am so scared!", Upper Crust replied sarcasticly. "You...!",Starlight shouted. "Seriously! What do you want to do, blank flank?", Jet Set meant. "Leave her alone for the last time or I teach you a lesson!" "What kind of lesson do YOU want to teach US?" He laughed. Starlight's horn began to glow. "That kind of lesson!" Starlight felt the magic inside her and unleashed it. Suddenly Jet Set and Upper Crust looked a little bit different like they lost their magic and lost their cutie marks. "What did you do?", they wondered. "I stole your magic now you have to live as blank flanks", Starlight answered. "You monster!" "Am I ? This is all your fault. " Starlight explained. " You won't get away with this!",they said and went away. "Thank you for saving me! Look you got your cutie mark", the earth pony said. "What?" Starlight looked at her flank. It was really there. A purple star. It looked like the star is flying away. Could it mean that her special talent is taking away magic? Starlight was not sure. It was a temporary spell. After a week they will be back to normal. "Hello?" The earth pony's voice brought her back. "Yes?" "I said thank you!" "No problem." Starlight replied. "I have to go now! Thanks and goodbye" "Bye Bye!" Years passed by. Starlight was now a full grown mare. She went to the library. Maybe I am able to find a book about taking away cutie marks, because it looks like that just life without cutie marks can create harmony. It is not enough to take them temporary away. When I was a filly I just made bad experiences with cutie marks. Only life without cutie marks can be a peaceful life. She looked for a book about cutie marks. After an hour she was able to find something. She opened the book and saw a stick at one page. Below the stick she read: It is able to remove cutie marks but just unicorns with strong magic can use it. It takes away cutie marks, but because cutie marks are part of a pony, they can only be separated from a pony when they are inside a glass. Otherwise they return to their rightful owner. Nopony knows where the stick is. But it says that it is somewhere in the mountains. Interesting, Starlight thought, I should look for it. She took the book and began the search.

One day she came out of the libary and there were two unicorns blocking her path. "Well,well if it isn't our favourite blank flank !", the yellow filly with the blue mane said. " Jet Set and Upper Crust! Leave me alone !", Starlight shouted. "We just want to see what you are reading.", the grey colt with the darker grey mane said. "No I won't give you my books!" "First of all", Upper Crust said, "those are not YOUR books! And second nopony says us what to do!" Then she took the books from Starlight with her horn. "Hey! Give them back!" "Interesting books you have." Upper Crust said, ignoring Starlight. "Hey", Starlight complained, "didn't you hear me?" "Did you say something?" Upper Crust asked. Starlight felt anger. Who do they think they are?, she thought. "I said give them back!" "Okay,okay. No need to get angry. That was just a joke! Here you have the stupid books back!" she threw the books at her and went away. Starlight sighed. Things like that happened to her every day. Just because she hadn't earned her cutie mark yet. Why are these marks so important? She couldn't answer it. She took her books and went to her house and started reading them. But she just couldn't hold back her tears. She began to cry. Why are these ponies such bullies? Why can't they leave me alone?
