Chapter 5
Remarkable Recovery

Equestria: Ponyville Hospital (ER)

Sora felt pain, his head throbbing like the beating of a bass drum. Except, his head was the drum. Sora slowly opened his eyes and shook his head, but the sunlight and the movement only made his apparent headache worse.

“He’s waking up!”

“Inform the Princess, I’ll attend to the patient.”

After his vision cleared, Sora found himself in a hospital of sorts. Looking around, he saw a light yellow pony with a brown mane looking at him. What he found odd about said pony was the clothing, the horn on it’s head, and the mark on it’s flank. The pony was wearing what looked to be a doctor’s uniform with a stethoscope around it’s neck. The mark on it’s flank resembled a monitor from a hospital (typical of thinking that while in a hospital).

Turning to examine himself, he noticed something was off. For one thing, he was an equine. Not that he had a problem with that, as he had been in a leonine form in another world. The problem was that unlike in that world, this form in this world--whatever world he was on--seemed more natural. It was almost as if he had visited this world already.

Trying to shift himself into a sitting position, he felt a sharp pain in his midsection--front and back. Hissing as he looked at it, he found a huge bandage wrapping around him.

“You should be careful,” Sora heard a male voice say.

Turning to the pony, Sora saw him walking to the bed with a look of concern.

“You just had an emergency surgery,” he said, “you shouldn’t be moving much.” He paused in thought before commenting, “Come to think of it, you shouldn’t have been moving for a few more hours. We just barely finished patching you up after what shape you were in.”

Sora looked at him in wonder. The pony...or unicorn...caught onto his look.

“You seem confused,” he stated bluntly.

“Where am I?” Sora asked.

“You’re in the Ponyville ER,” the unicorn answered, “I’m Doctor James Horse.”

“Ugh...my head,” Sora complained.

“Considering how much blood you lost before we intervened, your headache is a reasonable side effect,” the doctor explained.

“No, it’s not that,” Sora said, “It’s just...this place seems so familiar, but I’ve never been here before.”

“I’m not sure I could explain it. Best case scenario, just dé-jà vu,” James stated, “In the meantime, I suggest getting some rest and fluids to help in recovering your blood.”

Reluctantly, Sora drank some water from a nearby glass (although, he didn’t realize that he was grasping the cup until he set it down), then laid down his head to rest.

“One more thing,” the doctor said. Sora turned his head towards him and saw that his horn had a cyan aura around it. “What is your name?” he asked.

Sora suddenly felt sleepy, but he was coherent enough to answer his question.

“Sora,” he said, before falling into slumber.

Equestria: Ponyville Hospital (Front entrance)

“You healed up remarkably quickly,” Doctor Horse said, “A pegasus your size and build would have taken a week to fully recover from being impaled.”

Sora was standing in the entry of Ponyville Hospital, having taken a mere day and a half to fully heal from the impalement and surgery. “I guess I’m just lucky to have a fast healing body.”

“Perhaps,” Doctor Horse agreed. “Just make sure you don’t strain yourself for another few days.”

“No promises,” Sora said as he walked out the door only to meet a pink projectile. Sora quickly ducked to avoid an overeager pink pony with pink frizzie hair. Turning to James, he flashed an apologetic grin as James held the pony in his telekinetic field.

“PINKIE!” somepony shouted. Sora turned and saw six other ponies of various types and colors walking up the path towards them. The lavender alicorn spoke, “You can’t just tackle him in a hug! He just finished up in surgery! Do you want to hurt him!?”

The bubbly mare turn to the alicorn and said, “Well, DUHH! I was just going to give him the Standard New Pony To Pinkie Pie Intro!”

“What’s that?” Sora asked in curiosity.

“Well!” She exclaimed as she suddenly got into Sora’s face in a silly, non-threatening way. “I get close to the New Pony, like this! I then take a deep breath,” she took a deep breath, “Like this; and then I talk! Hiimpinkiepieitsnicetomeetyouareyounewhereyoulooknewifyournew thatmeansthatyouhaveyettohaveyourwelcometoponyvillepartyillgetitreadynowbye!” Pinkie Pie then zoomed off in a flash. Sora turned to the armored stallion and the five mares.

“Did I just miss something?” he asked in confusion. All the mares laughed and giggled at Sora’s brief moment with Pinkie. The stallion had a look of mild amusement. Sora could only laugh at himself.

“That’s Pinkie for ya,” said the orange mare.

“She’s always like this?”

“Of course, Darling,” the white unicorn said, “She always gets this excited around newcomers.”

“Sorry if it bothers you,” the yellow pegasus said quietly.

“That’s okay,” Sora said, “I’ve had to deal with excitement in many forms.”

The armored stallion cleared his throat, getting everypony’s attention. “Before we get too far with the conversation, introductions are in order,” he then gestured to the lavender alicorn, “Presenting…”

“There’s no need for the formalities,” the alicorn interrupted, “I’m Twilight Sparkle and these are my friends; Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash. You’ve already met Pinkie Pie.” She then gestured to the armored stallion, “And this is my bodyguard, Flash Sentry.”

Flash looked at Twilight with a mixed look of annoyance and...affection? Sora smiled as he could see more than the ‘bodyguard’ in him.

“And you are?” Flash said, his attention on Sora.

“I’m Sora,” he said in his outgoing voice, “It’s nice to meet you all.” He saw a wide variety of reactions from the various ponies. Applejack had a scrutinous look to her, as did Rainbow Dash, except more out of curiosity. Rarity seemed distracted by something in her saddlebags. Fluttershy looked...shy. Flash was hard to read with his hard-as-stone look.

Twilight, however, had a look that he dreaded...one of burning curiosity. The curiosity seemed to outmatch Rainbow’s. It seemed to have a form of recognition laced in. If she had seen him before, he didn’t know when. He could say that there was something familiar with her too, but he couldn’t place what.

Deciding to break her thought process, Sora spoke quickly, “Do you know where my clothes and necklace are? I lost track of them in the hospital.”

Rarity then looked up, her horn having a light blue aura and something lifted out of her saddlebags. His necklace floated from the bag to him. Sora reached out to it, but as soon as his hoof touched the chain, the chain and the crown changed from silver to gold. He found it odd, but it still felt good having his necklace back.

He put it on, but he started to feel strange. The golden crown on the necklace flashed brightly and the sensation of his old Drive Form magic lifting him slightly off the ground. The magic caused a brief spasm in his body, followed by a flash of light and a fractured magical shock wave. Unlike the many times he changed, instead of feeling stronger in a particular area, he blacked out.

Equestria: Canterlot Throne Room

Princess Celestia felt that something was off. She had felt it for days after Luna had returned from Ponyville. Roughly three days later, her feeling of unease was amplified tenfold when she felt a surge of magic from an enchantment cast years ago.

Luna walked into the room as Celestia half-collapsed in her position on the throne. Luna rushed to Celestia’s prone position, but stopped when Celestia waved her off and got back up. She had visible distress on her face.

“What is the matter, sister?” Luna asked.

Celestia remained silent for a few moments before speaking, “Guards, clear the room, please..”

The guards left the room silently and obediently. After the doors closed, Celestia raised her hoof forward. In a flash of light, a Keyblade materialized. The blade was slightly curved and had a light blue color. The teeth of the blade was the symbol of a sun. The guard looked to be made of clouds and the handle looked like sunshine on a cloudy day. At the end of the keychain was Celestia’s cutie mark.

The tip of her Keyblade flashed a bit before a beam of light shot from it and hit the door the guards exited from. The sound of a lock clicking into place sounded through the chamber. Celestia looked to Luna and saw a shocked look on her face.

“I thought that you said that after I was banished to the moon, you vowed never to use the Keyblade again.”

“I vowed not to use it unless circumstance required. And, if what I felt is true, I will need to have Twilight ready for what is to come and the Keyblade is the only way to prepare her.”
