Chapter Fifteen: Surprise!
"Hey Dad!" Rainbow Dash said, picking up the magical wall phone from the east wing of the compound. The Wonderbolts were able to afford one, but only one. So they made a separate room just for the phone.
"Hey, Rainbow! How's training going so far?" Rainbow Blaze asked his daughter. Dash smiled.
"It's going great! So far, I've had a day with Misty Fly, and one with Rapidfire!" She said. Blaze made a sound of approval.
"Hmm... I'm looking forward for you to tell me how Soarin's lesson went... He's always been one of my personal favorite Wonderbolts..." Blaze mused. Dash grinned. So her father already liked Soarin?
"Yeah... I'll tell you about it!" She said, not trying to show her enthusiasm.
"Say... Have you met him yet?" Blaze asked curiously. Dash gulped.
"Uh... Yeah! I've... Hung out with him... We've known each other for the past few years!" Dash exclaimed.
"Oh! Well, that sounds fun! You must tell me all about it later!" Blaze told his daughter. Dash smiled.
"Yeah! I will!" She replied. She could visualize her father nodding his head in approval.
"Good. Well, your mothers calling me! Spectrum said hi! Bye now, Rainbow!" Blaze said, before hanging up the phone. Dash smiled, as she put her end away.
Spectrum Dash was her older brother. He had gotten married a few years ago, and had moved to the Crystal Empire with his wife. It was sad to see him leave, but Dash respected his decision completely.
Dash happily trotted out of the small room, and made her way through the compound, with no destination set in mind.
But a pink pegasus caught her eye.
"Mom?!" She asked in disbelief. Firefly turned her head, and stared into her daughter's eyes, before grinning, and running up to her.
"Dashie!" She exclaimed, hugging her tightly. Dash grinned.
"What are you doing here?" She asked her. Firefly let go of Dash, and looked at her.
"We're here to see you of course! Me and your father! But he's going to be a few hours late. There was a delay at home." Firefly explained. Dash nodded.
"Yeah... I just finished talking to him on the phone." She told her mother. Firefly smiled, and nodded, before looking around.
"So this is the Wonderbolt compound? Nice! Mind showing me around?" Firefly asked. Dash smiled.
"I'll try my best... But even in still getting used to it! Maybe if we catch one of the Wonderbolts?" She mused out loud. Firefly nodded.
"That would be fun! A tour by a Wonderbolt!" She exclaimed. Dash grinned, and nodded.
Suddenly, the gates in front of them swung open, to reveal a very tired looking Soarin. He didn't seem to notice Firefly beside Dash.
He stumbled up to her.
"Oh... Hey Dashie... Spitfire made us run three marathons right now... Even I can't do that much!" He said, pulling her into a hug. Dash instantly blushed. Firefly looked between the two of them in confusion.
"Ah! You always make me feel better... Thanks Dashie... Now I feel more energetic. Wanna grab some lu-" he started, before finally noticing the pink mare beside the cyan one.
"Uh... Beg pardon ma'am... But do you have a visitors tag?" Soarin asked her. Firefly nodded, before gesturing to Dash.
"She's my pass. She's also my daughter..." She said simply. Soarin's eyes widened a considerable amount.
"What? Sorry... I could have sworn you said that you were Rainbow Dash's mother..." Soarin said, rubbing his ear with his hoof.
"That's because I did... I'm Firefly... Rainbow Dash's mother." Firefly told him. Soarin backed away, and then looked at Dash.
"So... I know what your father would do... Anything bad gonna happen with your mom?" Soarin asked Dash. Dash snorted, and shook her head.
"Nah... My mom's cool... Want me to introduce you?" She asked him. Soarin looked between the two mares, before reluctantly nodding his head. Dash took a deep breath, and turned back to her mother.
"Uh... Mom... This is Soarin... You might know him as second in command of the Wonderbolts... But I know him as... Possible the most amazing stallion I've ever met... And also my coltfriend..." Dash said, trailing off at the end. Firefly's eyes widened, as she stared at her daughter.
"What?" She asked in disbelief. Soarin nervously bit his lip.
"Uh... It's true... Ma'am..." He said, chuckling nervously. Firefly turned to Dash.
"You... Have a coltfriend?" She asked her. "And not just any coltfriend... The co-captain of the Wonderbolts?" She asked, her expression remaining. Dash gulped, and nodded.
"Uh... Yes?" She said. Firefly instantly narrowed her eyes.
"Hmm... Why should I believe you? For all I know... This is a prank!" She said. Dash rolled her eyes. Her mother was always like this, never wanting to believe anything that seemed impossible.
"Fine... How should I prove it to you?" She asked her. Firefly just shrugged.
"I don't know... Just prove it somehow..." She said. Dash turned to Soarin. She took her hoof out, and pulled Soarin's head in for a short, rough kiss.
When they broke apart, Dash smiled up at Soarin, which he returned, and they both turned to Firefly, who was looking at them with a huge grin.
"Awe!!! You guys are ADORABLE!!! I SHIP IT SO BADLY!!!" Firefly exclaimed. Dash rolled her eyes again. She knew this was going to happen. Firefly's childish genes were kicking in. Soarin sighed in relief. Suddenly, Firefly's expression darkened.
"Rainbow... I don't think it's a good idea to let your father know about this just yet... You know why...." She told Dash. Dash nodded.
"Yeah... I'm not planning on it..." She said, shaking slightly. Firefly nodded.
"Alright. Well... I'll leave you two be! I need to go see what's up with your father..." She said. Dash and Soarin nodded, and waved goodbye to the blue maned mare. Then, they started walking to the main entrance, because why not?
Dash sighed. "I love you, Soarin..." She said softly. Soarin gave her a soft smile, and looked towards her.
"I love you too... Dashie... More than anything in the entire world..." He said quietly. The front doors opened, but they paid no attention.
Dash turned around to stare at Soarin, and took his hooves in her own.
"Hey, Soar? Why do you love me? There are so many other mares out there that would love to be your marefriend... Why me?" Dash asked, with tears in her eyes. Soarin gave her a soft smile.
"Because you... Are the most incredible mare I've ever met... You're sweet, caring... Beautiful! And kind... You're everything to me, Dashie... And I love you for it..." He told her. Dash smiled up at him, before hugging him tightly.
She broke away from him, and kissed him on the lips tenderly. Which he gladly returned.
They kissed for a few seconds, before being roughly pulled apart by somepony. Dash and Soarin looked at the newcomer in shock.
All the blood drained from Rainbow's face, and Soarin went ghost white.
It was Rainbow Blaze, Dash's father.
