Chapter 30: Daddy and his Daughter
"Rainbow! You need to come back with us! Soarin will be fine!" Rainbow Blaze said, trying to pry his daughter off her seat by Soarin's door. But Dash didn't budge.
"No Dad... I'm staying right here." She insisted.
"The entire night?"
"Yes. Now you all go on without me!" Dash said. Blaze shook his head.
"What would Soarin want?" He asked her. Dash stopped dead in her tracks, and looked up to him with a mortified look.
"What do you mean?" She asked him.
"I mean... Would Soarin want you to be staying by his door, in a worried state, slaving away for him? Or would he want you to head on back with your family, and get a good night's sleep?" Blaze asked. Dash sighed.
"Probably the second one..." She mumbled. Blaze nodded.
"Exactly. Your friends are all waiting for you outside. Now, go on!" He encouraged. Dash slowly lifted herself off the hard hospital chair, and made her way out of the building.
Is Soarin going to be alright?
What's going to happen next?
Is this all my fault?
Why Soarin? What did he do wrong?
Dash thought about all these things, as the desperately tried to get to sleep.
She tossed, and turned, and fluffed her pillow multiple times... But nothing seemed to be working!
It was impossible to get to sleep!
No matter how hard she tried, Dash couldn't get Soarin out of her mind.
She loved him.
She finally realized just how much she loved him.
Of course, she knew all along that this was so, but after seeing him sacrifice himself for her earlier today, she really realized just how lucky she was to have him.
And how lucky he was to her her.
Blaze may not like it... Her friends may not like it... Her mother may not like it... But did that even really matter?
Because in the end... It was her decision. Right?
It was up to her to decide where to go in life.
Of course, she wanted to become a Wonderbolt... But now she realized something more.
Life isn't always about winning.
With such a wonderful stallion to share her time with, what could go wrong?
Everything. Absolutely everything.
Like her long lost ex-coltfriend coming to her, declaring that he wanted her back. And that Soarin were to defend her so badly, he went as far as needing surgery?
Why Soarin? Why did it happen to Soarin?
It could have happened to anypony. Anypony in Equestria!
Dash would rather herself being faced to such a dreadful fate. But not Soarin!
Anypony but Soarin!
After everything he did for her?
After everything she did for him?
After everything they did for each other?
"I need some water." Dash mumbled to herself, climbing out of the bed she was supposed to be sharing with Soarin.
Dash trotted down the stairs, heading towards the kitchen.
She entered, and turned on the lights, making the room dimly lit.
Grabbing a cup, she filled it halfway with ice cold water, and took a sip, calming her scratchy throat.
"Rainbow? What are you doing up?" A voice asked her. Dash turned around, to see her father standing at the entrance to the white tiled room.
"I couldn't sleep." She said, trotting by him, and heading into the family room. Blaze followed her soon after.
They both sat down on separate couches, Dash shaking slightly, while she sipped her drink.
They sat in dead silence for quite a while, just thinking to themselves.
Suddenly, Rainbow Dash sniffled slightly. Blaze looked up with wide eyes.
"Dash? What happened?" He asked her worriedly. Rainbow just shook her head, and put her face in her hooves.
"Do you think he'll be okay?" She asked quietly. Blaze leaned back, clearly not expecting that.
"Rainbow..." He mumbled. Dash took a few deep breaths, trying her hardest to stay calm.
"It's just that... Seeing him in such a state... It really frightens me..." She said. Blaze hung his head, not knowing how to respond to this. His daughter was openly expressing her emotions to him... What was he going to do?
"Rainbow... It'll all be okay..." Blaze tried. Dash shook her head.
"But what if it doesn't? What if... What if something terrible happens?" She asked, a few tears starting to escape her eyes. Blaze frowned.
"Why are you crying?" He asked her, a little confused. There was no need for tears!
"What? Dad! I love him!" Dash said. Blaze frowned.
"How can you be so sure? How do you know for certain that you love him?" Blaze asked her. Now it was Dash's turn to frown.
"How do you feel when your with Mom?" She asked.
"I feel great! I feel like my life is complete! I feel like I can take on the world!" He said, beaming slightly. Dash nodded.
"Exactly. I feel the same way when I'm around Soarin. Only probably twice as much." She said, mumbling the last part. Blaze raised his eyebrows.
"That's impossible! You're Rainbow Dash! How could you, of all ponies, fall in love?" He asked her. Dash frowned.
"Are you saying that I can't fall in love? Who says I can't? I'm a pony too, you know! I have feelings too!" She protested.
"But you promised me, Dashie! You promised me you wouldn't fall in love! How could you break a promise like that?" He asked her. Dash gasped.
"Well, I guess that promise was just never meant to be." She said simply. Blaze frowned.
"Dad... Why can't you just accept the fact that I'm growing up? It's natural to fall in love at my age! I love Soarin! And he loves me! Can't you believe that?" She asked him. Blaze sighed.
"I think I can..."
