Chapter 31: It's Just You and Me

Note: We are nearing the end of this story! I plan for no more than 40 chapters.

I'm actually working on a sequel right now... If you'd like that... Yes? No? Maybe So? Oh well... If I don't write a sequel, I'll probably start a new SoarinDash story. Tell me in the comments which one you'd like to see me do!

And now... Without further ado...

Rainbow Dash knelt beside Soarin's hospital bed. It was done.

Soarin had finished the surgical process, and was now being held in the hospital for a few days.

Dash, not wanting to leave his side, had stayed by his door the entire time. And when visitors were aloud inside, she was the first to go. Not wanting to let anypony feel bad, she of course made sure if it was alright with everyone.

Her family and friends just shook their heads, an pushed her inside the door, and closing it behind her, letting the rainbow maned mare take a good look at her coltfriend.

Dash immediately gasped at the scene in front of her.

Soarin's eyes were closed, and he was wrapped up in a warm white blanket, laying almost lifelessly on the hard bed.

"Soarin..." She whispered softly. The baby blue stallion stirred on the bed, opening his eyes just a crack.

"Dashie?" He mumbled. Dash's eyes widened, as she saw him try to speak. She squealed in delight, and tried her hardest to restrain herself from jumping onto him with a bone crushing hug.

"Soarin!" She exclaimed. His eyes were now completely opened, and he was looking around the room. He instantly smiled upon seeing Rainbow besides him.

"Rainbow Dash!" He said happily, trying to get up. He winced in the amount of pain it brought upon him, but nevertheless, he held his hooves out, summoning her in for a hug.

Dash, not wanting to hurt him, gently embraced him, being sure not to hit him in any rough spots. She smiled when she felt him shift to the side for a better touch. She giggled, and released him.

"How do you feel?" She asked him. He sighed, and shrugged.

"Eh... Could be better... But I'm feeling a lot nicer since... You know... I still can't believe he did that!" Soarin said. Dash nodded.

"Yeah. He's awful..." She said, before sighing. "I really wish we could spend some time together... We haven't done that in a while..." She said sadly. Soarin nodded, before brightening up.

"Hey! When I'm out of the hospital... We can spend the rest of the holidays together. Just you and me." He said. Dash smiled, and nodded, hugging him quickly once again.

"I'd really like that."

As promised, as soon as Soarin was out of the hospital, he and Dash excused themselves to go spend time with each other in Canterlot.

The city was beautiful at this time of year. Snow hung from the tall evergreen trees, ponies laughed, and played, as they cherished the beautiful sunny day Celestia brought upon them.

It really was an amazing sight.

"So! What do you want to do?" Soarin asked the cheerful mare besides him. Dash looked up, and shrugged.

"To be honest... I don't even really care. I just really wanted to spend some time together." She said, sighing slightly. Soarin smiled, and nodded.

"Hey! I have an idea! Follow me!" He said, taking off lightly into the sky. Dash smirked, and slowly followed behind him, silently wondering where he was taking her.

"Soarin.. Where are we going?" Rainbow asked her coltfriend after a few minutes of shallow flying. Soarin grinned back at her.

"Not telling." He said simply, picking up some speed. Dash gasped.

"Don't go too fast! You're still recovering!" She said. Soarin winced, and slowed down just a little. Dash rolled her eyes, and flew up to him. She grabbed his tail, and pulled him back to slow him down.

"Soarin. I'm serious." She said. Soarin sighed.

"Yeah... I know." He said. Dash smiled, as she allowed him to guide her to wherever he was taking her.

"Here we are!" Soarin exclaimed, moving out of the way to let Dash through. Dash instantly gasped.

They were at a cliff. But not just any cliff... The Peak of Equestria.

It was called this way because you could see every inch of Equestria if you stood at the middle. The sightseeing spot had been shut down for years, because ponies thought it was too dangerous... Making it an ideal sight to just lay back, and enjoy the scenery. Dash's eyes widened, as she looked back to Soarin.

"Wow... I've never been to the Peak..." She said, sighing softly as she glanced around her. Soarin smiled.

"Do you like it?" He asked her. Dash instantly nodded.

"Of course I do! This is downright amazing! I've always wanted to come here since I was just a little filly... Never thought I'd ever get the opportunity! This is absolutely perfect!" She said happily. Soarin sighed in relief.

"Oh good... I thought you wouldn't like it.. This is my real Hearths Warming present to you... Follow me..." He said, walking to a tall tree nearby. Dash raised an eyebrow in confusion, but followed him nevertheless.

They stopped right in front of the tree, and Soarin pointed towards the center bark. Dash quirked her eyebrows again, but she closely inspected the tree, gasping in shock once she saw what was there.

In the tree, words had been carefully engraved, spelling out a beautiful sentence dedicated to the rainbow-maned mare.

I love you Dashie... Will you marry me?

Dash stopped dead in her tracks as she read it. Her jaw dropped down, as she quickly spun around to face Soarin. But he was way ahead of her.

Soarin was kneeling down on his back legs, holding out a velvet box to her. Inside, it held a beautiful, sapphire and diamond ring. Dash gasped.

"Look... I know we've only been going out for a few months... But I also know that these last few months have been the best of my life! We've gone through our ups and downs... And I can't see my future with anypony else... Will you marry me, Dashie?" Soarin asked her with sincere eyes. Dash's eyes widened in shock, as she shook slightly.

"I... I..."
