Chapter 32: Breaking the News

"I... I..." Dash stuttered out. She stared into the eyes of her hopeful stallion. Those big, beautiful eyes that she loved so much... The eyes of the stallion who wanted to marry her...

Marry her.

Soarin Skies of the Wonderbolts wanted to marry her.

"Soar..." She whispered. Soarin hadn't left his position, and was staring into the rainbow maned mare's magenta eyes. He gave her a small smile, while he patiently waited for her answer.

"Yes.... YES!" She yelled out, jumping into his arms. Soarin grinned, and happily accepted the embrace. Dash let a few tears escape her eyes.

"Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!!!!" She yelled. "HAHA I LOVE YOU SOARIN SKIES!!" She yelled out, grabbing his face and passionately kissing him. He smiled beneath it.

They broke apart after a while, and Soarin instantly looked at her with the biggest grin ever.

"Oh my god, Dashie.... I was so worried..." He said. Dash smiled.

"Yeah... I never thought I would ever get married... But with you... It's different." She said. Soarin smiled, and leaned in for a second kiss, slipping the ring onto her hoof.

Soarin and Rainbow Dash burst into Twilight Velvet's house, laughing to themselves as they put their coats and boots away.

They walked inside the family room, where everypony else was sitting down, talking to Ace and Spectrum about the foal and their plans for the future.

Everypony stopped and looked up to Soarin and Dash as they came in. Dash instantly hid her hood behind her back, not wanting them to see her ring.

"Soarin! Rainbow Dash! How lovely for you to be here! Come in, come in!" Nightlight said, ushering them both inside. They both smiled, and took a seat in the back of the crowd.

"So what did you two do?" Firefly asked them. Soarin and Dash looked at each other in alarm. Soarin cleared his throat.

"We went around Canterlot, and then I took Dash to the Peak of Equestria." He told her. Firefly raised her eyebrow.

"The Peak of Equestria?" She inquired. Dash nodded. Blaze looked impressed.

"Hm... That's quite an opportunity... It's very hard to get up there... And the view is beautiful!" He said. Dash nodded, and glanced over to Soarin. He nodded towards her.

"Um... Something else happened when we were up there..." She said, taking her hoof out from behind her back, revealing the beautiful jewel upon it.

Everypony in the room gasped as they laid their eyes on the magnificent diamond. Dash's family the most. Rarity was the first to speak... Well, more like screech.

"EEEEEE!" She squeed happily, galloping over to Rainbow Dash and taking her hoof in her own.

"My my my! Hello there! You are absolutely beautiful! I mean... Hehe... Congratulations?" She said uncertainly. Dash rolled her eyes, and snatched her ring away.

"Uh... Thanks, Rarity..." She said, going back to Soarin's side. Dash's other friends were the next ponies who came up to them.

"Gee, Rainbow! That's a mighty fine ring ya got there! Congrats!" Applejack said, hugging Rainbow and Soarin. They both smiled.

"Thank you, Applejack..." Soarin said happily.

"Rainbow Dash! This is incredible! Soarin's one lucky stallion! I'm so happy for you guys!" Twilight said, giving the two ponies quick hugs, which they both happily returned.

"Thanks, Twilight." Dash said. Twilight nodded, before trotting next to Applejack.

"Oh my gosh Oh my gosh! Dashie's getting married! This is amazing! I wanna bounce all over Equestria and blurt out how happy I am!" Pinkie exclaimed. The two blue pegasi simply rolled their eyes, but gave their friends a nice, long hug. Pinkie then bounced away, before they could say thanks.

"Rainbow... This is so incredible! You two are going to be so happy! I just know it!" Fluttershy said, giving both her friends giant hugs. They both giggled, and smiled over to her.

"Thank you so much, Fluttershy... This all really means a lot." Dash said. Rarity spoke up then.

"And to think... Rainbow Dash was the first out of all of us to get engaged! Who'd have thought?" She said, hugging her friends happily. Dash chuckled, and Soarin grinned.

"I am pretty awesome... Surprising all of you like that..." Rainbow said. Her friends rolled their eyes, and trotted away, chattering amongst themselves. Spectrum and Ace were the next to come up to them.

"Wow... My little baby sister is all grown up!" Spectrum said, embracing Dash in a tight hug. She smiled.

"Thanks, Spec... Congratulations on your foal, by the way... I don't think I ever told you guys that..." She said, sighing slightly. Spectrum and Ace both smiled.

"Oh, that's alright! But I just can't believe you're getting married, Rainbow!" Ace said. Dash grinned up at her.

"Thanks, Spark... This all means so much..." She said, glancing up to Soarin, who was standing in a stiff position. She cast a worried look at him, and found what he was looking at. Her parents.

As Spectrum and Ace departed, Firefly and Blaze trotted up to them. A few tears escaped Firefly's eyes, as she pulled her daughter in for the largest hug she could muster.

"Mom? What's the matter?" Dash asked her, pulling away from the older pink mare. Firefly sniffed, and wiped a few tears away.

"My little girl's all grown up... And now she's getting married..." She said quietly. Dash raised her eyebrows, but allowed the pink mare to hug her once again.

After a little while, Dash rolled her eyes, and let go. Firefly kissed her on the cheek, and smiled at Rainbow and Soarin. She then turned to the Wonderbolt.

"You'll take care of her, won't you?" She asked him. Soarin gave her a light nod.

"With my life." He said simply, earning a hug for himself. He chuckled, and gave Firefly a hug back. Once they let go, Soarin turned to Blaze with a fearful look.

"Sir-" He started. But Blaze stopped him. He held out his hoof, and placed it on the younger stallion's shoulder.

"Thank you." He mumbled. Soarin scrunched his eyebrows in confusion.

"What?" He said, rubbing his ears. He had obviously not heard.

"Thank you..." Blaze repeated, a little louder this time. Soarin looked taken aback.

"For what, Sir?" He asked him. Blaze sighed.

"For standing up for my daughter. What you did to protect her from Hoops... I owe you one..." He said. Soarin's eyes widened, as she stared up at the older stallion. Blaze then grumbled a little.

"And now you two are getting married?" He asked them both. Dash then spoke up.

"Well, not yet. We're going to get married when we feel the time is right. Right now, we think it's a little early... But in a few months, we'll give you our final decision. I need to finish tryouts first!" She said. Blaze raised his eyebrows, but nodded.

"That's a good idea. I wouldn't want you to be thinking you're marrying a pony you don't even know very well!" He said. "When did you guys meet anyway?" He finished. Dash smiled up at Soarin.

"Well, we met almost... Let's see... Almost four years ago! At the Best Young Flyer's Competition in Cloudsdale!" She said happily. Soarin smiled, and nodded. "But of course this goof was too chicken to ask me out until many years later..." She mumbled. Soarin blushed.

"Well, to be honest... You weren't the most... How should I say this... patient pony... Heck, you barely even stood still with us that day! Let alone let me ask you out..." Soarin said, nudging his fiance. Now it was Rainbow's turn to blush.

"Well excuse me for being excited to spend time with my idols!" She mumbled. Soarin and Rainbow Dash looked at each other for a few seconds, before bursting out laughing... Something that was relatively common for them to do now and then.

Blaze and Firefly looked between them for the amount of time they were laughing for, with confused glances. Firefly then turned to her husband.

"Do you get what they're laughing about?" She asked him. Blaze only have her a dumbfounded shake of his head.

"Nope. But it seems to be funny to them..." He said. Firefly nodded, glancing back to the younger couple, who were howling with laughter, holding on to each other to make sure they didn't lose their balance. Firefly chuckled.

"They make a cute couple..." She said happily. Blaze only nodded.

"Uh huh..."
