Chapter 2:

Shellshocked

At Rainbow Dash’s house…

Rainbow turned on the tv. “This is Canterlot News at six,” it said.

“Hello and welcome back,” said the reporter, “I’m Press Pass. Tonight we have a story that will amaze you. It certainly amazed the witnesses of the occurrence. One word: Superheroes. No, you did not hear me wrong. Real life superheroes saved the city from a monster attack just hours ago. We weren’t able to get any footage of the events that went down but the eye-witnesses described what happened. Apparently, the witnesses were attacked by a strange group human-like creatures with bat-wings and, get this, a Manticore. As if straight out of Greek mythology. Now that’s not to say I don’t believe the eye-witnesses, after all they’re not called ‘eye-witnesses’ for nothing, but I do admit that it is quite unbelievable. I mean, how would you react to seeing a mythological creature. I’m getting off subject. Anyway, the creatures were attacking and out of nowhere come these five colorful superheroes. According to the witnesses, the heroes fought off the bat-winged creatures and then proceeded to fight the Manticore. Unsurprisingly, they defeated the monster, but then it grew to the size of a three story building. Even at this shocking turn of events, the heroes were prepared. They used a giant robot to fight the monster. Yes, I know, it seems so much like something out of science fiction. But it happened. No point in denying it. Anyway, these heroes apparently call themselves the ‘Power Rangers’. Cool name, I admit. Where these heroes are now is unknown. Now onto meteorologist Clear Skies with weather.”

“Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!” Rainbow said excitedly. Honestly, who wouldn’t be like this when they’re on the news. Of course, this would lead to a huge boost in Rainbow’s ego (as if she wasn’t arrogant enough already. Don't believe me? Here’s an example: she wrote an entire song stating how awesome she is).

Anyway, the next day, Canterlot High Music Room…

“Did, you guys watch the news yesterday?” asked Rainbow.

“Oh, I did,” said Pinkie, “There’s a 30% chance of rain today and…”

“Not that, Pinkie. Before that,” interrupted Rainbow.

“Oh right, the story about the Power Rangers.”

“You were all on the news?” asked Fluttershy.

“Yeah, we were,” confirmed Dash, “Wait a second. How do you know we’re the Power Rangers?”

“Uh, well, you disappeared for a few minutes when the earthquake happened. Then when you reappeared, Pinkie Pie was acting suspiciously. And then you seemed to disappear again right before the Rangers arrived. So I connected the dots,” Fluttershy explained, “Plus I may or may not have seen you transform from where I was hiding.”

“Great, so our secret’s out,” said Applejack.

“This is just perfect. No one is supposed to know our secret besides us,” said Rarity.

“Oh, don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone,” reassured Fluttershy, “Your secret is safe with me.”

“Thanks, Fluttershy. The last thing we need is to be found out by the public,” said Sunset.

Nightmare Moon’s Fortress…

Nightmare Moon was staring into her crystal ball, replaying the battle of the Rangers versus her Manticore. “I do admit, they are skilled. But I doubt they are skilled enough to defeat my entire army.”

“It would be a smart move to test their strength, as so we don’t underestimate them,” suggested Jackel.

“Yes, I agree, but how are we to do it?”

“I know just the monster we could use.”

“Well, what is it?”

“I’ll give you a hint: it has giant claws and it comes from Greek Myth.”

“Ow, how I do like that idea. Better prepare, Rangers, this creature is only the beginning. Mwahahahahahahahaha!”

Back in Canterlot High, Lunchtime…

The Rangers are having lunch are telling to Fluttershy about how they became

Rangers, well, at least up until the point when they were teleported back to Fluttershy because Fluttershy saw everytime else.

“Wow, is amazing. But are you sure you can trust this ‘Zodor’ person” says Fluttershy.

“We get why you're skeptical, Fluttershy, but you don’t have to worry,” said Rainbow, “If Zodor wasn’t to be trusted, then why would he have chosen us to protect Canterlot.”

“I agree with Rainbow Dash,” said Sunset, “We wouldn’t be the ‘you know what's’ if we couldn’t trust Zodor.”

“Zodor?” asked a guy that just happened to be walking by, “Who’s that?”

“Uh, um nothing. Ha ha,” Sunset laughed nervously. She didn’t recognize the guy. “Wait, who are you?”

“My name’s Spark Hedge. I’m new here.”

“Great, another new student,” Sunset thought, rightfully suspicious (after all, Canterlot High seems to be a popular place for beings from Equestria to meet/battle).

Spark, if you’d like to know, spoke in a New York accent, so it’s safe to guess that he’s from Manehattan. He also had electric blue skin, cyan eyes, and yellow and orange hair that looked a little like lightning, not like a literal lightning bolt, but in a more subtle way (like it sticks out a bit in the front and is spiky in the back). He was wearing  a bright green hoodie with a white t-shirt underneath ,goggles around his neck, denim shorts, and combat boots. Why? Because they just look cool. He was also wearing a pin with a cross wrench and rainbow colored lightning bolt on it (like a cross-bones, but instead of bones the wrench and lightning bolt).

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, the cafeteria. So, Spark introduced himself, as did the Human 6. Spark joined them. He told them about himself, “Well, I have a little brother, Lightning Rod, or Roddey for short. He’s got quite a temper.”

“Um, when you say, ‘quite a temper,’ how much of a temper do you mean?” asked Fluttershy.

“Let’s just that the vice-principal for the Manehatten School for Troubled Youths may or may not have ended up in a full body cast. Anyway, listen to me going on and on about me. How about you all tell me about you?.

“Well, believe it or not, we all have this crazy ability to grow pony ears, tails, and in the case of Rainbow and Fluttershy, wings when we play music,” rambled Pinkie.

“That sound awesome.”

“Yeah, it is,” says Rainbow.

Right then they heard the sound of something roaring outside. Everyone rushed to the windows excepted the Rangers.

“Is that a giant crab?” yelled one of the students.

With everyone looking out the window, the Rangers were able to sneak away.

“It’s morphin’ time!” Sunset shouted.

A beam of pink light shoots up from Pinkie’s morpher, making her cutie mark appear in the sky. Down from it comes a shimmering form of a fairy. Pinkie jumps towards her cutie mark and goes through it, making a pink bodysuit-and-skirt appear on her. She landed in front of another cutie mark and her helmet appeared, the visor shaped like a balloon. Pinkie twirls her cape and poses in front of a tornado. “Random as wind, Pink Harmony Ranger!”

A beam of white light shoots up from Rarity’s morpher, making her cutie mark appear in the sky. Down from it comes a shimmering form of a unicorn. Rarity jumps towards her cutie mark and goes through it, making a white bodysuit-and-skirt appear on her. She landed in front of another cutie mark and her helmet appeared, the visor shaped like a diamond. Rarity twirls her cape and poses in front of a mountain. “Indestructible as crystal, White Harmony Ranger!”

A beam of yellow light shoots up from Applejack’s morpher, making her cutie mark appear in the sky. Down from it comes a shimmering form of a wolf. Applejack jumps towards her cutie mark and goes through it, making a yellow bodysuit appear on her. She landed in front of another cutie mark and her helmet appeared, the visor shaped like an apple. Applejack twirls her cape and poses in front of a giant tree. “Strong as a tree, Yellow Harmony Ranger!”

A beam of blue light shoots up from Rainbow’s morpher, making her cutie mark appear in the sky. Down from it comes a shimmering form of a pegasus. Rainbow jumps towards her cutie mark and goes through it, making a blue bodysuit-and-skirt appear on her. She landed in front of another cutie mark and her helmet appeared, the visor shaped like a lightning bolt. Rainbow twirls her cape and poses in front of a thunderstorm. “Fast as lightning, Blue Harmony Ranger!”

A beam of red light shoots up from Sunset’s morpher, making her cutie mark appear in the sky. Down from it comes a shimmering form of a phoenix. Sunset jumps towards her cutie mark and goes through it, making a red body suit-and-skirt appear on her. She landed in front of another cutie mark and her helmet appeared, the visor shaped like a sun. Sunset twirls her cape and poses in front of a setting sun. “Powerful as the sun, Red Harmony Ranger!”

They rusted outside with their weapons in hand.

A troop of Bat Soldiers attacked them, but were beaten within a few minutes.

When the last of the Bat Soldiers was defeated, they slowed down to take in what was happening. There was indeed giant crab. It was about six foot four, threw right, batted left. Just kidding, it’s a crab, just a big crab. A Karkinos, more specifically.

“Okay, anybody up for seafood?’ said Sunset.

“Really, Sunset,” said Rarity, “Now is hardly the time for playful banter.”

“Right, sorry. Let’s do this.”

They attack the crab, which just shrugs of the blows (not literally, it doesn’t have shoulders, at least I think).

“Oh boy, that crab’s exoskeleton is harder than a…”

“That’s enough, Applejack,” scowled Pinkie, “There might be children reading this.”

“What, I was going to say ‘rock’. Oh, and please don’t break the fourth wall, Pinkie. You know how hard it is to fix.”

“Fine, I won’t.”

“Focus, you two. We need to defeat this thing,” says Rainbow.

“I say we just put the weapons together and get this thing over with,” suggests Applejack.

“I agree,” says Rarity.

They put the weapons together to form the Mega-laser Crossbow and fire. The Karkinos is knocked back and defeated.

Nightmare Moon’s fortress…

“Jackel, restore that monster!” ordered Nightmare Moon.

“Right away, my queen. Ressurecto!” said Jackel.

With the Rangers…

The crab got back up and grew to colossal size.

“Um, I think we’re gonna need a bigger gun,” said Sunset, obvious reference is obvious, “Zodor, the Zords please.”

“Right away,” answers Zodor.

The Zords are deployed, transforming into the Megazord.

The police car and the ambulance spun around to drive backward. The two vehicles then extended parts and connected to the back of the fire truck. The fire truck was then lifted into the air, allowing for the jet and the helicopter to attach to either side of the truck and transformed to become hands. The front windows of the fire truck then came down to the front of the Zord, forming a breast plate. And where the windows used to be, a head came up from inside the truck and took their place.

The Rangers are teleported inside the head.

“Okay, team. Let’s go fishing,” says Sunset, “Spectrum Cannon on my count. One. Two. Three. Fire!” They all press the Spectrum Cannon button and the chest cannon shoots a beam of rainbow light at the crab. An explosion ensues and the Rangers celebrate.

But all too soon. When the smoke clears, the Karkinos is still standing. Stunned, but standing.

“Oh no, what do we do now?”

“Don’t worry, girls. I’m on it,” says Zodor, “I’ve sent reinforcements.”

To the Megazord’s right came what appeared to be a flying blue car. It landed on the Megazord’s head and transformed into a helmet of sorts. “Great, now we look like Optimus Prime,” says Sunset. And she was right, the Megazord’s design did indeed look like a slightly recolored version of Optimus Prime.

“So what exactly is that helmet for?” asks Rainbow.

“That helmet is actually a cannon that uses audio frequencies and combines them with the Spectrum Cannon to create a blast made of pure sound. To put it simply, it uses the Spectrum Cannon to make painful noise. In theory, it can make more than just ears bleed,” explained Zodor, “Try it out.”

“Okay, though it seems rather counterproductive in a way,” Rarity points out.

“We don’t have time to talk about this. The crab’s getting back up. So let’s make like Shia Lebouf and ‘Just do it!’,” says Rainbow.

They all press the Spectrum Cannon button and instead of a rainbow beam shooting from the chest, rainbow-colored sound waves come shooting from Speaker Cannons in the helmet.

The sound waves hit the Karkinos and it is send flying backwards. It explodes from the impact upon landing.

“Yeehaw, now that’s what ah call a ‘head-canon’!” shouts Applejack.

They all celebrate.

Nightmare Moon’s fortress…

“Well that plan failed, more or less,” says Hyde.

“Yes, but at the very least we do know that the Rangers are not to be underestimated,” says Jackel.

“Hmm, very true. Perhaps we should call upon a more experienced evil,” suggest Nightmare Moon.

“That would be most useful of a resource,” agrees Jackel, “Whom do you suggest, my queen?”

“I have just the person in mind, or should I say, ‘Succubus in mind’. An old ally of mine, from before my imprisonment. The ruler of the underworld herself.”

“Why a Succubus? According to legend, Succubi feed on the blood of men they seduced. You do know that we appear to be dealing with teenage girls, right?” asks Hyde.

“Okay, one: do you have something against people being attracted to the same gender as they are, because I don’t. I’m evil, not prejudice. And two: don’t you ever question me!” Nightmare Moon warned.

“So, how are we to contact this this ally of yours?” asked Jackel.

“Well first, I’ll need to find something. Then, you’ll have to retrieve it, Hyde. For now, ready a small troop of Bat Soldiers. We don’t want to draw too much attention to ourselves where it’s not needed.”

“Yes, my queen.”

After school, Harmony Force Command Center…

“You did excellently today, Rangers, most excellently,” said Zodor.

“Yeah, really great,” agrees Derpy.

“Well we probably couldn’t have done it without your help,” says Sunset, “I mean, without that new helmet thing, we probably didn’t have much chance of defeating that Karkinos. By the way, what was that exactly?”

“That was a prototype weapon I like to call the Deathtone. It was originally Vinyl Scratch’s transforming car, you know from the Battle of the Bands, and it has been engineered by our new mechanic. Speaking of which, Vinyl Scratch has joined the Harmony Force (but not as a Ranger) along with our new mechanic. Since he’s already here, I’ll just let you all take the elevators to the garage and meet him.”

The Rangers each took an elevator down to the garage to meet the mechanic, who was working on some sort of motorcycle. He got up from his work to relieve he was…

“Spark Hedge?” asked Sunset, surprised.
