Chapter 2: Gold and Silver

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Goldheart and Silver Balloon lived together, with their parents, in Baltimare. After all, they were just fillies. The twins always worked together, laughing and playing with each other. Gold and silver go well together, after all.

Goldheart woke up and found darkness. She couldn't really see anything, and couldn't use a magic spell. As a filly of the earth, she had no horn, and unlike her twin sister, no wings. She stumbled around in the dark for a bit, until she found the light. She turned the lights on, and saw that her sister was in bed, still sleeping. Goldheart frowned. She didn't care if it was Night Day, she wanted to play.

Silver Balloon was having a great dream. She dreamed about owning a big stage where she could perform for all of the city. Then things started shaking? That shouldn't have been part of the dream, but Silver didn't care. Shaking made a lot of things sound funny or do weird things. But then a voice called out:

"Silver... wake up... Silver..."

"Goldheart?" Silver thought. "Is she- oh right, it's Night Day. Goldy just wants to play. I guess I should wake up."

Goldheart was glad that she could wake her sister up. Usually she would ignore her, or wake up, only to go straight back to bed. Her sister could sometimes be stubborn like that. When she did wake up, Silver always loved to play directly after eating. The twins went down into the kitchen to eat, so then their mother would let them go outside and play.

"Mom? Is there anything to eat?" Goldheart asked.

No response. No one seemed to be there.

"Mom?"

Nothing.

"Mom?!"

Goldheart and Silver Balloon were getting anxious. There was nopony in the kitchen, or anyone in the house. Then again, maybe their mom just went out. Yeah, that must have been it. Now to turn on the light.

The light came to life, and what the fillies saw was... nothing. Literally, nothing. They had been robbed! There were red splatters on the floor, and broken glass where the window should be. The fillies feared the worst for their mother.

"M-Mom? Are you... gone?" Silver asked, to nopony in particular.

The door opened, and their mother walked in. She was shocked at the scene. Missing things, broken glass, and blood in the carpet. She immediately knew what happened. The criminal smashed the window, cut themselves on the glass, stole their stuff, and left the same way.

"Girls! Are you okay?" she asked them.

"Yeah Mom, we're fine. We thought the robber killed you! Where were you?" Goldheart asked.

"I- who's that?" Their mother pointed at the broken window. A dark blue-violet alicorn with blue hair flew in from apparently, the sky.

Luna descended from the sky, and, having flown from Ponyville, arrived later in the night that she would have hoped. She noticed the shattered window, and attempted to fly through it.

"Ouch!"

So close.

Goldheart and Silver Balloon were scared, thinking that this pony was the robber. However, their mother knew it couldn't be. She saw the horn and the obvious wings, and she knew it was Luna. Luna was the night princess that her father had told her about.

"Luna, is that you? From the stories?" she asked.

"You've heard of me? I came to tell you that your little fillies are Elements of Harmony."

"What does that mean, Mom?" Silver Balloon asked.

Diamond Tiara was stunned. Her fillies, Elements of Harmony? It was an unbelievable honor. She and her friend had never dreamed of such a thing. When three other little fillies had shown her how to be nice, she had thought about it. She never made anything of it, though those three fillies were a group that could have filled the roles of Elements.

"It means you get to be able to save the world. Our ruler is a bad pony, and Equestria needs you two to save it from her."

"That's awesome! How do we do it, and where do we go?" Goldheart asked Luna.

"Just wait for me, there are two other ponies who I have to talk to. After all, there are six Elements, not two," Luna replied.
