                                                                                                Chapter Two:

                                                    Calling Twilight for help.

Twilight was in her castle reading some books blissfully unaware as to what had happened in the human world. Spike her ever faithful apprentice and loyal friend was busy dusting off a nearby bookshelf. When he heard a soft noise coming from one of the millions of books on the shelf that he was dusting.

BZZZZZ, BZZZ, BZZZZ

The noise was unmistakably from the journal that Princess Celestia had given to Twilight many moons ago. The Princess had given Twilight the journal In order for her to stay in contact with Sunset Shimmer when she wasn’t in the human world. Now the book buzzed and vibrated almost non stop. Spike seeing that the book was buzzing opened it up after reading what the message said he grabbed the book and ran over to Twilight. She was sitting on a cousin in the middle of her Crystal Castle library reading peacefully to herself.

“Twilight, Twilight you need to read this right away, something awful has happened.”

He said as he suddenly shoved the book in her face. He had shoved it up to her snout so quickly that she didn’t have time to react to it coming so close to her nose.

“H..Hey! SPIKE!” Twilight exclaimed out in anger at having the book shoved in her face.

When she regained her composure she looked down and saw what her little friend was trying to show her. Looking at the glowing book she read the message she felt her color completely leave her body as she went white with fear as to what the message read.

The message read.

Twilight.

We at Canterlot high, you’re friends all NEED you now! Sunset Shimmer has been killed today and our worlds Twilight has somehow reverted back to her demon form. She vowed a solemn oath of absolute vengeance upon any and all that would get in her way. Please Twilight we need you now more than ever. We can’t face this darkness alone! Each of us will meet you at the partal in front of the school. From there we will fill you in as to what has gone on over the past couple of days. Please Twilight come as soon as you get this.

Your friends.

Everyone at Canterlot High.

P.S.

We have all talked and feel that Princess Celestia would also need to be brought in on this as well. As such we refuse to help with the search of our worlds Twilight unless you agree to bring Celsita here with you.

Again you’re friends.

Everyone at Canterlot High.

Twilight had to read this message three times before she was able to actually move. Spike asked her as she stood there paler than snow.

“Twilight are you going to go to Canter lot and ask for the Princess’s help in this matter?”

“HUH?...What did you say Spike?” She asked him in a very shaky tone.

As she steadied herself and regained some of her composure spike once again asked.

“I said are you going to go to Canter lot and ask for help from Celestia yes or no!?”

Spike said in a more aggressive tone. Apparently the tone in his voice was just enough to mostly bring Twilight out of her initial shock as she stared at him with eyes as cold as ice.

“Of course I am going to Canter lot!! What the pony tails type of question is that to be asking me now!?”

Demanded Twilight as she turned to the door of her castle library and charged towards the door with Spike in tow. Not even bothering to open the door she crashed through it and once outside unfurled her wings and leapt, into the air. Flying as fast as she could in the direction of Canter lot. Arriving at Canter lot castle Twilight quickly raced up to the front doors and demanded to speak to Princess Celestia. As one of the two guards stood there shocked as to why the princess of friendship would show up the way she did.

“I need to talk to the Princess right now get out of my way!” She demanded in a harsh tone to the guards.

Twilight charged towards the guards only to be stopped mid charge when the Princess appeared from out of nowhere directly in front of her. The guards only reply was to raise their eyebrow's at this sight that was ensuing before their very eyes. The Princess did not look a bit amused by Twilight's antic and glared at her with a stare that could melt the coldest of snow and ice in one clean shot. Seeing that she was clearly in BIG trouble Twilight slid to a halt and knelt before Celestia as if to start begging for her mercy. Princess Celestia simply walked up to her and laid a very gentle hoof on Twilight's shoulder asking her even more gently what was so important that she would actually think to act like a little filly instead of the almost grown mare that she was.

“My dear student whatever is wrong? Why would you come here and actually try to charge my guards and demand to see me?”

Twilight was not able to reply to this request of her teacher and friend. She was only able to stammer on her words. So Spike who had almost been knocked off of her when she came to an abrupt sliding halt when the Princess appeared in front of Twilight. Simply handed over the Journal and turned it to the page that had the message written on it. Seeing the message the Princess simply said only two words in response to this.

“I see.”

Twilight was not sure if her mentor was actually going to help with this issue. The princess turned and started to walk back into her castle saying to Twilight as she walked away from her.

“Come I have something to show you.”

Twilight didn’t put up even so much as an argument at the request. She knew far too well that it was not the time nor the place to actually get into some silly argument with her mentor. She followed the Princess past the guards and down a long fully windowed hallway. Each pane of glass that encrusted the windows in this hallway was a picture of absolute glory and splendor. Each showing a picture of a past battle that she and her friends had over the years. Each one showing how the power and magic of friendship had won the day against some form of evil that had threatened to take over Equestria. Twilight didn’t have time to think on past events she needed to keep her mind clear on the task at hand or rather the task at hoof. The Princess lead her down another long fully windowed hallway until she stopped abruptly in front of a large pane glass window and looked at Twilight then back at the window. Twilight having been walking so close to her mentor almost crashed into her when she stopped. She looked at Princess Celestia then at the window.

Who is that pony princess?” Twilight asked.

As a sudden wave of chilly air seemed to encircle Twilight even though there was no wind blowing in the castle.

Twilight couldn't help but shudder while standing in the presence of this picture.

The picture showed Twilight yet it was not Twilight, it may have looked like her but, somehow this was a very different version of her. It was also not the human version of her either. That too was far more different than this one. That Twilight was calm and sometimes even a little nervous which would have fully shown in any picture of her. This picture was of a Twilight that was so demonic looking that Twilight couldn’t bare to even look at the picture any more as she turned away and shook from fright. The princess seeing how very uncomfortable her young student was walked over to her and laid a hoof around her. Pulling her into a tight embrace then gently kissed her on the top of her head. Whispering to her as she held her tight in her hoofs.

“I know my faithful student you feel it too don’t you?”

Twilight was taken aback at this and looked up into her teacher's eyes with bewilderment as she shakily spoke to her teacher.

“I...feel..c...cold...it is as... if the very warmth….. in your castle has….. all but drained out of here Princess.”

The princess looked at her with eyes of deep sadness before speaking to her.

“What you are feeling is the coldness of vengeance. It is what happens when some poney takes it upon their, self to seek out revenge. Against somepony else for some crime that they may or may not have been committed.”

“Then you know what is going on? You know why my other half is now well for a better word for it….a demon?”

Princess Celestia fully embraced Twilight in the most loving embrace that she had ever received from her mentor and simply heard only one word uttered to her ears.

“Yes.” The Princess replied calmly and sternly to Twilight.

Twilight ended the embrace from her teacher saying as she slowly parted from her.

“Please! Celestia please; I beg you tell me how you know of this and how to help my other half deal with what has happened to her.”

Celestia pursed her lips together and lowered her head. She looked as if she was about to cry a side of her personality that Twilight had never seen before until now that is. She then raised her head and slowly began to speak to her student in a voice that was so soft even fluttershy would have mistaken it for a whisper.

“It was almost nine hundred moons ago my child, I was still a very young filly at the time. Mother and father were expecting my sister to be born any day. And I was playing outside in the royal garden when somepony that I had never seen before walked into the garden. Oh was she beautiful, her main was the color of the evening night itself. It was actually a deep blue with a pink and purple stripe in it.”

The princess began to tell Twilight. Hearing what color her mane was Twilight shuddered a little realizing that this Twilight could have actually been HER! Twilight wanted to say something to Celestia but, felt it would do her far better to let her Princess finish her tale.

“Her fur the color of velvet that sparkled as if the stars themselves were literally woven into her. Her eyes were shimmering blue spheres of lights that showed a pony that had seen much in her days. Many moons and suns had risen during this time my child all without my help to raise or lower them”. Celestia continued.

Celestia spoke as if she was very fond of this pony yet Twilight could see how sad she was as well.  Celestia continued to speak ever so softly and slowly to Twilight as the two of them still stood in front of the window that had caused Twilight to shutter from the mere presence of it.

“She was covered in a beautiful majestic armour. Her armor was a deep purple that would make even your friend Rarity jealous with envy. About her waist was a long two hoofed sword in the center of her chest plate was her cutie mark. It was a half moon and blue snowflake.”

Celestia stated as a tear began to fall from her majestic eyes and trickle down her snow white cheek.  As she  continued speak to Twilight about this matter at hoof Twilight saw that her mentor and friend was indeed starting to cry.

“What was her name princess if may ask” Twilight asked trying not to fully interrupt her mentor and friend on this important tale.

Celestia had lowered her head and began to weep at hearing the question. Celestia looked up into Twilight’s eyes. Celestia's eyes now fully engulfed in tears that were now completely running down the sides of her soft snow white cheeks. What the princess said next to Twilight would haunt her for the rest of her days. Celestia spoke in a very shaky voice to Twilight.

“Her name was…….Midnight Sparkle” Celestia said shaking as she spoke the name aloud.

Twilight could only raise a single hoof to her mouth as she tried to hide a gasp of fright from her mentor’s face. Celestia seemed to have taken notice of the reaction on Twilight's face for it caused her to slightly flinch. Twilight lowered her head and then asked Celestia in a very deadpan tone.

“So when the other me became her during the Friendship Games. That  Sunset told me about in her letter to me that day. Really wasn’t an accident caused by the overwhelming power that was surging through her body that day?”

Celestia just looked at Twilight with eyes that clearly showed great sadness and anger before speaking to her faithful student.

“No...I am afraid not, what you wrote to me about that day in your letter was no accident! It was a miracle that Sunset was actually able to beat her and not let her become a full monster that day.”

Celestia said with a hint of anger in her tone of voice. Twilight sighed with an ever tone of deep sadness before she had to ask her mentor a question that she was almost too afraid to ask her.

“What happened to….Midnight Sparkle...that caused her to become so well…...evil.”

Princess Celestia was not sure if she could answer this question yet she knew that she had little choice in the matter. If her student was to have any chance at stopping Midnight from destroying both the human world and this one. Then she would have to fully con vie to her what actually happened that day that Midnight went completely evil when she became the spirit of vengeance.
