                                                                                                           Chapter Nine:

The Guardian of the Hall of Heroes.

The guardian was sitting at his desk reading over several manuscripts and scrolls when a loud knock came from his door. Rising slowly to his hooves and walking just as slowly to the door. He raised a hoof to the eye slot opened it and peered out into the hallway. Seeing thirteen royal guards each dressed in royal burial armor standing outside. He sighed to himself as he slowly opened the door. As the door opened the guards knelt before him all but four of them. Looking at the ones that didn’t kneel in his presence the guardian spoke in a voice that could only be described as a god.

“Why do you come before me? Why do you four not kneel in my presence?”

One of the four guards looked at him straight in the eyes showing he clearly was not afraid of him saying.

“This young mare needs to be laid to rest in the hall of heroes. It is ordained by Princess Twilight Sparkle and Princess Celestia themselves.” The guard said as he stared into the eyes of the guardian.

Looking at what the four royal guards were carrying on their mighty shoulders. The guardian could see a funeral bed and white sheet covering some pony he couldn’t see. The sheet had the royal seal of The Princess on it and was made of white silk. It was clearly draped over the body of the mare lying on the funeral bed with care. The guardian looked at the four royal guards then stepped to the side and said to them.

“Very well, it will take me a few hours to find the right scripts and the right oils to bury her in. What is her name so that it might be carved to her head stone.”

The other nine guards that were still kneeling in front of the guardian slowly rose to their hooves and stepped aside to let the other four into the preparation room. As the guards trotted into the room while carrying the funeral bed on their mighty backs one of them said outloud.

“I believe her name is Sunset Shimmer your guardianship.” As he and his fellow guards laid the bed onto the floor then trotted towards the door.

The guardian looked at him then back at the funeral bed before saying softly.

“If it is Sunset Shimmer that I am to bury then may the Great Pony gods of old be merciful for what is about to come.”

The guardian gently trotted up to the funeral bed looked down and with his teeth picked up a corner of the silk sheet in his mouth. Slowly walking backwards he removed the sheet and lowered his head when he saw Sunset Shimmer's lifeless body laying before him. Sighing when he saw was lay before him he said as he covered her back up.

“I am going to have to make sure I take greater care with her burial rights than with any other hero buried here. I can not afford to make a mistake that would cause more harm than good.” The guardian said as he finished covering up Sunsets body.

The guardian then trotted over to his desk and was just taking out some blank parchment when a knock was heard coming from his door again. Pursing his eyebrows tightly together he glared at the door as if it was the doors fault that he had been disturbed. Again the knock came and again The guardian glared at the door before he set the parchment down and trotted over to the door. Opening it he saw standing before him was spike Twilight Sparkles assistant. Looking down at the baby dragon then out into the hallway and back at the baby dragon the Guardian said sternly to Spike.

“What do you want?”

Spike looked at the guardian then lowered his head and spoke gently as if he was very sad about something.

“Is it true? Is Sunset really here?” Spike said as he continued to look at the floor.

The guardian looked at him then back over to where Sunset was lying on the funeral bed and said.

“Yes little one it is true Sunset is really here.”

“How did she die can you tell me how she passed into the afterlife?” Spike asked as he was motioned inside by the guardian.

The guardian trotted over to Sunsets body then looked at Spike as he walked behind the guardian. Stopping in front of the funeral bed Spike looked around but couldn’t see anything of interest in the guardians chambers. There were books of all sorts of shapes and sizes stacked all over the place and candles adorned every wall of the chambers. Quills and ink wells laid all over the floor and scrolls of parchment laid strewn all over the oak and cherry wood desk that the guardian worked at. As Spike looked around he said to the guardian who was looking over some scrolls.

“Is there anything at all that I can do to help you prepare her body for a proper burial?”

The guardian looked up from his work then looked at Spike and said to him.

“I find it rather strange Spike that you would take such an interest in Sunsets last days here in Equestria. When from what I fully understand you do not know her personally.” The guardian said as he went back to his work.

Spike said nothing to him he walked over to the lifeless body of Sunset shimmer and placed a gentle clawed hand onto the sheet covering her. Saying softly to her as if she was able to actually hear him.

“Don’t worry Sunset everything will be OK. I know my friend Twilight will fix everything and you will rest in peace.” Spike said as he laid his clawed hand onto Sunsets lifeless body.

The guardian didn’t pay any attention to what Spike was doing he was too busy trying to find the right spells and list of oils to use on Sunset to give her a proper burial. As he poured over parchment after parchment and scroll after scroll he eventually found what he was looking for. Checking it twice to make sure it was the right one he looked up at Spike who was still standing next to Sunsets body with his hand on the sheet that was covering her body and said.

“Spike would you like to help me to make sure Sunset is ready for a proper burial?”

Spike looked up from Sunsets burial bed and said with a toothy grin.

“Yes guardian I would like to help my friend even though you are right I didn’t know her personally I still consider her a friend. Because she was Twilight's friend there for she is….was my friend too. So anything I can do to help her I would like that very much.”

Looking back at the scroll then back at Spike the guardian could sense that Spike was indeed sincere about wanting to help. As the guardian slowly rose to his hooves and trotted over to spike with the scroll in his mouth he placed in onto the ground in front of spike saying to him.

“If you are really sincere about helping to prepare Sunset for a proper burial then take this and gather the items listed on the scroll. Once they are gathered bring them back to me and I will walk you through the next step.” The guardian said as he sat back on his haunches and looked at Spike.

The guardian watched as Spike walked towards the door opened it then left. Once Spike was out of the chamber he sighed to himself then trotted up to Sunsets body. Looking at her body the guardian slowly removed the sheet from Sunsets body again. Once it was removed he went about gathering up towels and clothes to wash her body and prepare for her burial. Spike standing outside of the chamber looked over the scroll that the guardian gave him. The list itself wasn’t that big and the items could easily be found and fully purchased within Canter lot city. Putting the scroll under his right arm Spike sighed then headed down the hallway and out a door leading back to the main courtyard and the rest of the city. As Spike got to the court yard that lead outside to the city he noticed two royal guards talking to among themselves. Getting closer her overheard the guards conversation and he didn’t like it one bit.

“I heard that traitor Sunset is the one that is to be buried in the hall of heroes.” One guard said.

“Your kidding right, I was there when she attacked myself and our fellow guards before she jumped through the mirror.” Said the other guard.

“That traitor doesn’t deserve to be in the hall of heroes only us royal guards should be the ones allowed to be buried in that sacred place.” The first guard replied.

“What are you saying that we should flat out over rule the princess and publicly challenge the guardian on this matter?” The second guard said with a questionable look on his face.

“No! What I am saying though is this, Sunset Shimmer broke out princesses heart the day she turned away from the teachings that Princess Celestia was trying to teach her. Thus unto she doesn’t in any way deserve to be in the hall of heroes. Will I challenge either her orders or the ruling of the guardian in this matter? No I will not.”

Spike couldn’t take listening to the guards talk ill of his friend any longer. Without even thinking of how they would react to his listening in on their conversation he strolled right up to both of them narrowing his eyes at both guards and saying grimly.

“Sunset Shimmer was and is Twilight's friend there unto she is was my friend too. I may not have known her personally but I will not sit by while you two idiots talk your snouts off like this about one that Twilight cared for deeply.”

The two guards looked at each other. Then down at this baby dragon who had just dared to have the audacity to talk so bluntly and brazenly to them. Realizing their mistake and seeing the anger in Spike's eyes they both bowed deeply to him each saying in unison.

“We are sorry for out ill manors towards one that was so dear a friend to your, er; our princess Twilight. We would like to make this up to you by helping you in any way that we can.”

Spike looked from one guard to the other before asking calmly to both of them.

“You both are unicorn’s right?”

“Well yes we both are indeed unicorns and we both can use magic to some degree. Uh why do you ask Spike friend of Twilight?” Replied one of the guards as he stood up from bowing to him.

“I have items listed on this scroll.” Spike said as he held up the scroll for the guards to see it. “That need to be purchased and brought back here, however because I am only a baby dragon and I can not use magic as you both can. I therefore require some pony to carry all the items for me while I pay for them.” Spike finished what he was saying as the guard closest to him used his magic to lift up the scroll so he could get a better look at it.

The guard looked it over then levitated it back to Spikes awaiting outstretched clawed hand before saying to him.

“I know where each of those items can be bought and at a good price too. If you will permit me I will go with you to acquire all that you need to give Sunset a proper burial friend Spike.” The guard said with a half smile on his face.

Spike wasn’t sure if he could trust this guard yet he knew he would need help to acquire all the items that he needed to give Sunset a proper burial. Looking at the scroll then up at the guard Spike asked him with a questionable look on his face as he quirked an eyebrow while talking to the guard.

“Do you know where to get red, yellow and orange flowers that are used for this sort of thing?”

The guard smiled and nodded his head in reply to this question. Looking back at the scroll again Spike also asked the guard about the other items on the list that the guardian sent him to find.

“OK, What about silk sheets and scented oils? The sheets need to have Twilight’s and Princess Celestia's as well as Sunsets cutie marks on it. These need to be on the sheet before we can use it to cover Sunsets body with. The oils need to used to help hide the smell of death that is on her body so that when she is buried. The scent won’t attract timber wolves to her grave.”

Again the guard just nodded his head and again Spike looked at him with a quirked eyebrow.  He had little time to waste with a pony that was not going to actually help him acquire what he needed to collect for the guardian. Feeling that he had little choice in the matter Spike very reluctantly agreed to let the guard accompany him to the market in Canter lot city. As this was going on the guardian was just finishing washing down Sunsets body for her burial. As he finished his work he looked at Sunset then over to a door in the back of his chambers. Sighing to himself he trotted over to the door and putting his teeth against the brass handle he opened the door to peer inside the next chamber.

Looking inside this chamber he saw a pedestal that held Midnight’s sword. After Midnight had been killed her sword was handed over to the guardian for safe keeping. He felt it was a good idea to lock it away where no pony could get to it ever again. However as he peered into the chamber he saw that the sword was now gone. A look of fright came over his otherwise calm collected face as he let out a gasp saying to himself in relation as to what was actually going on.

“So it is true Midnight Sparkle has returned that means her master will also find away to return here as well.” The guardian said as he closed the chamber and trotted back over to Sunsets body.

Looking down at her lifeless body he spoke to himself.

“I must know what actually happened the day you disappeared and what lead up to your death young one. I have to know what caused all this to happen.”

Looking over at his desk the guardian saw what he needed to cast a spell that would allow him to look into Sunsets past. And see what happened the day she disappeared and the day she died. trotting back over to the desk he picked up with his teeth a amulet that was in the shape of her cutie mark and trotted back to Sunset’s lifeless body. He then placed this amulet onto her body and chanted a few words that only guardians could understand or translate. Instantly images of Sunset as a young filly appeared in his mind then quickly disappeared.

“Show me everything that I might learn what happened that day when you died young one.” The guardian said as he continue to cast the spell on himself and Sunsets body.

The guardian saw everything that Sunset did up till her death in Canter lot city. He saw how she used the crown that belonged to Twilight to become a power made she-demon at the Fall Formal. He also saw how she sang with her friends at the battle of the bands to stop the sirens from destroying her home. Images of how Sunset became an angel at the Friendship games to stop Twilight from destroying Sunsets and Twilight's home also appeared in his mind. Once those images disappeared the guardian let a single tear trickle down his cheek before he said to himself coldly.

“So demon queen that is how you did it. You let your student Midnight Sparkle take control of that world's Twilight in the hopes of destroying both our world and theirs.”

Spike in the meantime that all this was happening was now entering the city to gather up the items that he needed to get for the guardian. As he walked down the cobblestone streets he silently let himself shed tears for his fallen friend. The guard that who was walking besides him took notice of this and stopping laid a gentle hoof on to his shoulder saying softly to him.

“Do not worry or cry for Sunset instead rejoice for she is in a better place. She will enter the great stables of our ancestors and be able to be at peace. Come friend Spike we have items that we need to gather for her funeral.” The guard said with a smile on his face while trying to help Spike feel better.

Spike smiled as he wiped the tears away from his purple cheeks. Then the two of them made their first stop at the flower shop. Walking inside they both could see flowers of all sorts of colors and scents. It was as if they had walked right into a living version of summer. The scent of the flowers filled Spikes nostril and made him feel at peace. Daffodils, Roses, Orchids, Sunflowers, and many, many more flowers were all over the shop. The very scent of each flower filled Spikes nose and brought about a pure sense of love in his heart. The guard trotted up the front desk and asked the clerk behind the desk for the items needed.

“Forty dozen red, orange and yellow roses to be sent to the castle please.”  The guard said as he looked at the clerk.

The clerk had never had such a extravagant order and was all to happy to fulfill it. Saying to the guard as she typed up the order on her cash register.

“The Princess must really like these type of roses I mean to order so many at one single time?”

The guard looked at the clerk then down at Spike who was looking over the scroll that they had brought with them. Then back at the clerk again before replying with eyes as cold as steel.

“These are not for Princess Celestia they are for a….departed friend of the Princess. Please make haste and have the order sent to the castle as soon as it is ready.” The guard said as he looked deadpan into the eyes of the flower shop clerk.

The clerk gulped a little then set about out getting the order ready as she rang it up on her cash register. When the total came up she looked at then at the guard then back at the total account again to make sure she had read it right. Slowly speaking to him as if she was afraid of his response she said.

“That will be….900 bits sir.”

The guard furled his eyebrows closely together and sighed deeply before handing over the procured sum of bits. Turning to look at Spike he said grimly to him while Spike was still reading over the list of items needed for Sunsets funeral.

“Let’s go!”

Spike looked up from the scroll in his hands then over at the clerk and back again at the guard before saying.

“Alright I will meet you outside on the streets.”

Spike then turned on his heel and walked out of the shop as the guard was turning to walk out of the shop as well he said to the clerk.

“You are not to fulfill any other orders at all. Until this order is complete I do not care or want to hear how you can not afford this request. Do you fully understand me?” The guard said as he turned to leave the shop.

“Y...yes I fully u...understand and I will obey your orders sir.” The clerk said as she started to get the order ready.

The guard said nothing else on the matter and trotted outside of the shop. As he trotted past the door he used his magic to flip the open sign to close and then trotted down the street with Spike at his side. Spike looked at the scroll again then looked up at his companion and asked.

“Where are we supposed to find the satin cloth and the oils?” Spike asked as he looked into the cold steel blue eyes of the guard that was following him down the street.

The guard smiled then started to trot down the street turning back a few feet away from Spike saying to him.

“Follow me I know where to go.”

Spike sighed as he walked alongside his companion in search of the items needed for Sunsets funeral. The guard led him down the street and turned to the right, going down a alleyway then he stopped at a large green door that read on the front of it.

‘cloth and oils’

Looking at his little friend then at the door he said to Spike as he trotted up to the door putting a hoof onto the door to open it.

“It might be best of you let me do all the talking while we are in here. The owner doesn’t exactly trust dragons even ones that are friends with a princess.”

Spike looked at him then back out towards the street then back at the guard before saying.

“I will wait out here then. Do you know what type of cloth to buy and what colors they should be?”

The guard said nothing as he pushed against the door with his hoof opening it. Then trotted inside the shop and let the door close behind him. Leaving Spike to his thoughts out on the street in the alleyway. As the guard trotted inside the shop he looked around the shop seeing all sorts of colorful bolts of cloth and bottles of oils lined the shelves of the relatively small clothing and oil shop. Looking around he saw the shop owner with her back to him and trotted up to her then tapped her lightly on the left shoulder with his hoof. The shop owner turned around and looked into the guards steel blue eyes saying softly to him.

“Yes my good royal guard how may I serve you today or the Princess today?”

The guard looked at her then said as he looked around the shop.

“I need a burial cloth with the cutie marks of Princess Celestia, Princess Twilight Sparkle and…..Sunset Shimmer on it please.”

The clerk looked at her him then down at the floor then back at him. Had her ears actually heard right did this royal guard really say the name Sunset Shimmer to her? Before she could ask if what she heard was correct the guard spoke again.

“I also need the cloth to be in the colors red, orange, and yellow. With Sunset Shimmers cutie mark at the top and the other two at the bottom of the cloth in a full triangle formation. I assume you can handle this order?”

She had heard correctly the guard had indeed said Sunset Shimmer to her. As she looked at him she asked him.

“When do you need this item made and do you know what oils are to be used on her….body for this burriel?”

The guard looked at her then nodded and spoke softly to her.

“Yes I will need Lavender, Rose and Blossom sprout all of which must be ready to be sent to the castle within three hours…..do you understand my instructions?”

The clerk's eyes all but, popped out of her skull at hearing of this request. It would take all of her magic to get this order ready on time. Looking at the guard and fully stammering on her words as she spoke to him she said.

“I….it….wi...will...take me all….n..night...to...get that put…..together.”

“Then I would fully recommend you bring in whatever help you need but when I come back you will either have this ready or you will be in the dungeon it is after all your choice.” The guard spoke to her with such a deadpan cold voice that even death would be scared of him.

“B...but...I...I..BUT?” The clerk tried to say to the guard.

The guard gave her a stern wicked look then turned and trotted out of the shop and walked down the alleyway with Spike trying to catch up to him. Once he got to the alleyway entrance he stopped just short of the threshold of the entrance. That was leading off the street and into the actual alleyway looked at Spike who was out of breath and said to him sternly.

“Spike we have ordered all that we need. It is time to go back to the guardian and tell him that he will have the items needed for the burial in three hours.” The guard said as he stared at Spike with cold dead eyes.

Spike looked up then looked away from the guard before speaking to him.

“Alright, if you think that is best. Uh if you don’t mind me asking what happened inside the shop? When you came out you looked really well upset.”

“Spike listen to me very carefully needing to do this for Sunset is very hard for me as it is hard for the rest of the guards. I was there the day that Sunset betrayed Celestia and was banished from the castle. I was one of the guards that she attacked before she jumped through the mirror. Although I am glad that she turned her life around that really doesn’t matter in the eyes of the royal guards. You see in the eyes of all the royal guards being banished to another world wasn’t a fitting punishment for her. We all, every single one of us myself included felt she should have been well….executed for what she did.”

Spike couldn’t believe what his tiny dragon ears were hearing looking at the guard then down at the ground he spoke to him again.

“H...how can you possibly want to actually put some pony to death just because that pony stole a crown and broke celestia’s heart?” Spike in complete disbelief as to what the guard just said to him.

The guard sat back on his haunches then said trying to find the best words to use in order to answer Spikes question.

“Look Spike we the royal guard live by a very strict sense of ethics and honor. What Sunset Shimmer did before she left this world is unforgivable in the eyes of my brethren. I know you don’t understand at all but I…” The guard was cut off when Spike turned on his heel and started to walk away from him.

Realizing that Spike was not about to listen to any more of his reasons behind his feelings towards Sunset. The guard sighed to himself then followed Spike back to the castle courtyard and back to the guardians chambers. Getting back to the chamber Spike knocked on the door and was bidden to enter by the guardian. Opening the door Spike could see that Sunsets body was now fully washed and ready to be placed into a coffin. As he looked around he found the guardian standing near a doorway in the back of the chamber mumbling to himself. When the guardian noticed that Spike was now fully in the chamber he said to him as Spike shut the door to the guardian’s chamber.

“Spike since the time you left up till now I have been looking into Sunsets past and into what caused her death. I know now that she is indeed a hero and that she must be treated as such. When you first came here and asked me to do this for her I was very reluctant to comply with your request. Even though it came from the Princess herself I was still having some reservations about it. However because I have seen with my own eyes that Sunset sacrificed her life to save the one she loved I will now fully comply with your and Princess Celestia's request to honor her as a hero.”

Spike said nothing as he walked up to Sunsets lifeless body that was still laying on the funeral bed in the middle of the chamber. Placing a clawed hand on the sheet that was covering her he said gently as he stroked his hand back and forth on the soft sheet.

“You hear that Sunset you really are going to be buried as a hero.”

Looking up at the guardian he said just as softly to him.

“The items that you have asked for will be here within three hours. Is that going to be OK with you because if it is not I have no other way of getting them here any sooner.” Spike as he gently stroked the sheet that was covering Sunsets body.

The guardian looked at him then over that the door he had checked on before Spike came back. The guardian trotted over to Spike nodded then spoke to him calmly yet sternly.

“Spike there is something that we need to do, something that might actually save Sunsets wife from her sense of vengeance. Something that is both a little foolish and dangerous. But, if it works then Midnight will have very little hold over the host body of Twilight.”

Spike's eyes shot wide when he heard the name Midnight. He remembered reading in the journal something about a Midnight showing up in the mirror world. But, he didn’t think it was the actual spirit of Midnight Sparkle. Spike like most of every pony growing up or living in Equestria had learned about Midnight Sparkle over the years. From what he was able to recall of all the stories that were still spoken about her. She was the embodiment of pure absolute evil. A spirit that was so hated that most ponies wouldn’t even dare to attempt to call upon that sort of evil. Now hearing that she was somehow involved in all of this made Spike shudder with fright. Something the guardian took notice of. The guardian placed a gentle hoof on Spike's shoulders and spoke to him softly.

“Spike I know you are afraid of Midnight Sparkle and for good reason. Like many before you, you have also heard what she is and what she can do.”

“Yes I have heard the stories guardian, but; please tell me what is that we must now do? I need to know what is it that you are referring to.”

The guardian pointed to Sunsets body then spoke in a tone that was clear as crystal.

“We need to send Sunsets spirit to the mirror world in the hopes that worlds Twilight will see her and be able to communicate with her. Doing this it should be just enough to break Midnight's hold over that worlds Twilight long enough for Princess Celestia to send that….that harpy back to Tartarus where she belongs.”

“I have heard of how she became what she is. Is there absolutely no chance to redeem her and send her soul to the afterlife where the great ponies await to bring those that have died with honor to the silver stables?” Spike asked as he looked over to Sunsets body hoping this plan would actually work.

“No Spike there is no way to redeem her, for you see Midnight Sparkle is now and forever shall be a demon wraith like the one that is her master.” The guardian said as he trotted over to his desk picking up something in his teeth then bringing it over to Spike.

Spike looked at the item in the guardians mouth then at Sunsets body. Spike seeing that Sunset already had a amulet sitting on her lifeless body looked a bit confused as he took the item that was being offered by the guardian. In his clawed hands Spike held the same amulet that was sitting on Sunsets body. As he was about to say something the amulet began to glow. Spike looked at it then over at the one that was sitting on Sunsets body. Before speaking to the guardian again.

“Uh what is going on? Why is this thing glowing and for that matter what IS this thing that I am holding in my claws?” Spike said as he was about to drop the procured item on the floor and back away from it.

Seeing that Spike was about to let go of the fragile peace of metal. The guardian quickly moved in and steadied Spikes claws with his hooves to try to keep him from dropping the item on the floor. Looking down at the little frightened dragon the guardian spoke to him with words of both concern and compassion.

“Spike, young one, I know that you are scared of the magic that is about to be used here. But, please try not to drop this item. I can not make another one. Although there are indeed two of them each of them are very different.”

“I am sorry for almost dropping uh whatever this thing is.” Spike said as he looked the item over in his claws.

“What you are holding there in your claws Spike is what is called a 'spirit amulet'.  With which will allow me to speak to and send Sunsets soul back to the mirror world.”

“Do you really think this will work?” Asked Spike still holding the amulet in his clawed hands.

“I don’t really know all we can do from this point on is try. And it is in that moment of trying that we might succeed with ending this nightmare.” The guardian said as he gently pushed Spike next to Sunsets body with his head.

Spike having been gently pushed into position by the guardian said to him.

“You know there was no reason to move me with your head next to Sunset I would have been more than happy to move without you pushing me like that.”

The guardian said nothing on this matter he trotted up behind Spike and said to him.

“Place the amulet next to the one that is already on her body I will do the rest from there. Then back away and whatever you do, do not move or speak from this point on. Do you fully understand?”

Spike did as he was told bending over he placed the amulet next to the one that was already laying on top of Sunsets body and backed away. Once he was standing next to the guardian Spike watched as the guardian spoke out in a thunderous voice.

“HEAR ME SPIRIT OF SUNSET SHIMMER COME FORTH AND HEAR MY WORDS TO YOU."   "COME."

"FORTH” The guardian said in a very thunderous voice.

The room was suddenly bathed in red, orange and yellow light as the air around the two went cold as if winter it self was set loose upon the room. A thunderous loud boom was heard as a sphere of light appeared before Spikes very eyes. The sphere seemed to dance in the air as it floated over to spike who looked at it with eyes as wide as a saucer. The guardian said rather bluntly to the sphere as it seemed to be playing and actually jumping about with excitement.

“Oh stop fooling around and go over to your body so that I might be able to communicate with you better spirit of Sunset.” The guardian said as he pointed his hoof at Sunsets body and watched as the spirit seemed to obey him.

The sphere seemed to fully understand the instructions given to it as it floated over to Sunsets body. Touching both of the two amulets that lay on her body the sphere erupted into a brilliant display of warming light. The room was bathed in warmth and light seemed to be dancing all around the pair as they both stood in awe of that was now floating over Sunsets body before them. Sunset Shimmer was floating over her body in full human form. She looked at Spike then at the guardian then down at her lifeless body before the guardian spoke to her.

“Do you know why I have summoned you spirit of Sunset Shimmer?”

Sunset spoke in a voice that seemed to echo and thunder as if there was more than one spirit in the room. And as if thunder it very self was somehow let loose upon the chambers.

“Yes I know why you have summoned me.” Sunset answered in a echoing booming voice.

“Then you know what has become of your wife in the mirror world?” The guardian asked as he looked upon the brilliance that was Sunsets spirit.

“Yes I know what has become of her and it breaks my heart to see what has happened to her.” Replied Sunset saddened as to what has befallen her wife.

“Then you must go and go quickly before any more damage can be done to that world.” The guardian said as he was about to pick up one of the amulets only to be stopped as Sunset spoke to him.

“Know this guardian I will not do anything that might cause my wife more grief and more pain than what she is already feeling in the wake of my death!” Her voice booming louder than before.

“I understand young spirit.” The guardian replied with sadness in his voice.

“Before I go I ask of you this, should this battle go ill and both my wife and I are reunited in the afterlife. I request that you either bury us here together. Or you send my body back to the mirror world so that I might be laid to rest there with that worlds Twilight at my side.”

“I” sighing deeply as the guardian spoke the final words of his sentence “….It will be done as you have asked spirit of Sunset Shimmer.”

“Thank you guardian.” Sunset said as she started to fade away.

“WAIT” The guardian cried out as he stuck out a hoof towards the vanishing spirit of Sunset Shimmer.

Sunset’s spirit stopped for a moment quirked a ghostly eyebrow then spoke.

“What else is there for me to know about this upcoming battle? What else are you not telling me?” Sunset asked as her eyes began to glow with anger and being delayed in helping her wife.

“You need to know this, the creature that has taken possession of your wife's body has the power of illusion. Midnight Sparkle can actually cause images of ghost or other spirits to appear before her or her enemies. I fully believe she will use this power to further her hold over your wife and get her to go to the portal that is in the world that you came from before you died.” The guardian said as he stared at the ghostly image of Sunset who looked a little more than angry at him.

“What are you saying guardian that my wife will be fooled into doing something stupid is that what you are telling me?” Sunset spoke now in a voice that could rival the oldest of gods.

Spike wanted to say something at this point but clearly remembered the words of the guardian and held fast to his position as the guardian spoke again.

“That is not all that I am saying to you spirit of Sunset Shimmer. I am also telling you this. In order to save your wife Midnights sword must be broken. Once that is done the demonic spirit that Midnight has become will go back to Tartarus. Where she belongs.”  The guardian said as he closed his eyes afraid of what else needed to be said to Sunsets spirit.

“I am sensing there is yet more that you have not yet told me as we say in the mirror world ‘spill it!’ or face my wrath.” Sunset said with a hint of anger in her ghostly voice.

“DO NOT PLAY AT THREATS WITH ME SPIRIT!" The guardian snapped back with a hint of anger in his own voice.

“Do not think you can simply summon me here then demand me to hurt the one that I love guardian. I will not and shall not cause Twilight more grief no matter what she has become.” Sunsets spirit spoke in heated anger towards the guardian.

“I am not asking you to hurt her spirit of Sunset Shimmer. You need to know that while you are in the mirror world as a spirit. You will not be able to interact with your wife. In fact although she will be to see you and yes even hear you. You will not be able to physically take hold of her. Not unless she too has become one with the dead.” The guardian said as he cautioned Sunset’s spirit.

“Then tell me guardian. How am I supposed to break Midnight’s sword in order to save my wife and set her free of this nightmare that befell her from my death?” Sunsets spirit said as she looked confused as to how to accomplish her mission.

“Midnight and your Twilight while in contention with Midnight's spirits will be able to see and fully hear you this is true. However so to can Princess Celestia who is currently over in that world trying to stop Midnight from destroying it even as we speak. I know what I am about ask of you is very difficult for you to hear and perhaps to even carry out. Yet you must if you truly want to save your Twilight from becoming one with Midnight forever.”

“What are you about to ask me that…….” Sunset’s spirit stopped in mid sentence realizing what the guardian was about to ask of her.

Looking down at the ground the guardian spoke with such a calm tone to his voice that even the most awful of storms could be calmed by his soothing voice.

“You will need to ask Celestia to let you use her body so that you and you alone can break Midnight's sword. Because you are or rather were married to your worlds Twilight it is you and only you that can actually break the sword that Midnight carries with her.”

“I….I don’t know, I mean I have not seen or spoken to her in so long that I highly doubt she wants anything to do with me let alone would be willing to let me use her body to do this with.”

“My dear Sunset you should know that it was Celestia her very self that was the one that requested you be buried in the hall of heros. Without such a request you would have been tossed to the side as a traitor to Equestria.”

“She…..she did that for….m...me?”

“Yes child she did.”

“I will go now Spike take care of your world Twilight for this will be the last time I will see either you or her. Thank you guardian, thank you for everything that you have done for me.”

“You are welcome child NOW go quickly before more innocents are lost due to Midnight's bloodbath.”

With that the spirit of Sunset shimmer faded away the ball of energy disappeared with a loud thunderous boom. The boom was so loud that it shook the castle. Several guards that were stationed in and around the main hallway that lead up to the guardians chambers stopped what they were doing and looked up. One of them said as he looked back at his fellow guards.

“What was that?”

Another replied with.

“That, that you don’t want to know what it was. I fully pity the one that is about to face what that…..was.”

The noise ended and all was silent again. The guards went back to their duties as the guard that was questioning what the noise was he heard not more than a few minutes ago was and what it meant looked around then he too returned to his duties. The energy that made up Sunset Shimmer's spirit was on it’s way to the human world and to battle with another spirit that was just as powerful and just as pissed off as Sunset was. Thinking to herself as she floated to the mirror chamber then floated inside of it.

“Hold on Twilight my love I am on the way. I won’t let that demon bitch hurt you any more. Hold on I will be there soon I promise.”

With that Sunset’s spirit entered the mirror and was soon being transported to the human world and to battle with Midnight.
