Chapter 4: Origin Stories

I sighed in content as I had started standing with only eight fingers. I look at all my fingers in use, except my pinkie fingers. I closed my eyes and started standing with only one hand. It has been a few weeks since me and Spada's first mission. We're actually starting to get along better. I had established some ground rules with her as she had to to me. I don't remember the ground rules so I don't really care. I then started to get back down. One thing I realized about Spada, she tends to open doors without permission. I sighed in relief when I got down, and sat on the couch. I turn on the TV to the news.

"Hello, we are here in Rarity's Boutique where an arrest had occurred. The pony arrested was an infamous drug-dealer/serial killer. We asked the manager herself on what she saw."

"Yes um, I saw an unassuming looking pony come in, he looked harmless until a pony burst through the window and slammed a hammer against the pony's head. Then, I was pinned with the pony, yelling out threats of killing me when the door opened and a spear flew into the room, butt end first, and hits the stallion. The next thing I know, the Lunar Assassin and Celestial Guard were fighting for some reason. I thanked them as hard as I could, but if those two ponies are watching, thank you for saving my life!"

I smiled. I turned it to something else. I kept searching channels to watch when Spada opens the door. She walks in front of me. I leaned aside to see the TV. She steps sideways. I sighed.

"What is it Spada?" I asked. She hands me a letter from Luna. I open it to read.

Dear Quickblade,

I know it is hard to deal with a Celestial Guard, but please try to get along with her better. Start off by asking her how she got the job in the first place. Ask her her favorite anything, just get along.

You're boss and friend, Luna

I sighed. I crumpled it up and threw it away.

"What'd it say?" Spada asks.

"Well, Luna said we should get along better, starting off with how we got our positions, but I think I know how you got in," I said. She groans.

"Really? I do not need a life coach," she said. I sighed again.

"We're gonna have to, bosses' orders," I said. She shakes her head. A knock came on the door. The mailmare gave her a letter. Spada looks at it and groans in frustration. She sits in front of me.

"I'll go first," she said.

Nine years ago...

I, Spada, daughter of Ricco, am bored. I have to sit and smile and that's it. I waved as a gentle colt passed by. I sat in the same chair that I think broke my tailbone by now. I sighed after five minutes. My father and I are here in Canterlot to do something about his business.

"Papa, when are we going to leave?" I asked. He sighs.

"I don't know sweetie, but I hope it's soon. I think you can go now, be back in ten minutes," my father said. I nodded and hurried off. I went off to his break room. With a couple of bits, I put some into the vending machine. I got out some sticky buns, always good in something like this. I started heading back when someone had bumped into me. I looked up to see a Celestial Guard in full armor. I almost dropped my sticky buns. It was the Shining Armor. He's one of the best CG's out there. He's also awesome! I almost went full-on fan filly and smiled. He chuckles.

"You look easily impressed, guess you're a fan of mine huh," he says, kneeling eye level. I nod. "Well, you already look tough, I bet that when you grow up, you'll be a great Celestia Guard," he said. I almost dropped my sticky buns again, staring in awe with my jaw dropped. He chuckled. "Well, I've gotta go, my wife is probably wondering where I am, bye," he said, ruffling my hair. This day became the best day ever for me.

Present...

"... And I was only twelve at the time," Spada finished, looking into the air from the flash back, as if seeing it all over again. I sat on the couch with a face of interest.

"So, the only reason you're here is because you were told you're gonna be good? Wow, I wish I had that experience when I was your age at the time," I said. I leaned back.

"Well, I told you how I got in, now it's your turn," she said. I nodded. I closed my eyes, remembering how it happened.

Ten years ago...

My stomachs growled loudly, in need of food. I sighed and looked around. I only have a couple of a scraps. I can't live like this, I just can't. I sighed as I continued to walk home from school. I never thought I'd ever be like this. I got out my pocket knife, flicking it in and out. I've gotten my cutie mark recently, it was a knife halfway out a sheath. Turns out I'm good with knives. I had done some cool stuff from masterfully cut food into dices to some cool carving. I then heard something other than my stomach. I heard a cry. A cry for help. Confused, I walked down an alley way and found someone pointing a knife at someone's throat. I did the first thing that came to my mind.

"Hey! Leave her alone!" I yelled. The stallion looks at me, smirking.

"Beat it kid, or you're next," he said. He turned back to his victim. I got a rock and threw it at him. It hits his face. He turns to me enraged.

"Okay now you're asking for it brat," he said. I rushes up to me as I stood paralyzed by fear. He picks me up and pushes me into the wall. He knocks the wind out of me and throws me onto the ground. "Don't mess with someone who's stronger than you kid," he said, holding his knife. He bends down to my eye level, keeping his foot on my back. "Because you're going to be weak at the end, or in this case, the entire time," he continued. I looked at him with rage in my eyes.

"I am not weak!" I yelled. He stomps on me, making me yell out in pain.

"Don't you dare talk back to me you stupid kid," he said. I grunted in pain as he forces his foot harder. I slowly started reaching for my knife. "You better remember who is superior to you!" He continued. I grabbed it. "Because in the end..." I got the blade out. "You're just a hopeless kid," he finished. I quickly thruisted the knife into his leg, making fcry out in pain. Out of some instinct, I got up and lashed out again, stabbing him. I looked up to see I stabbed his chest where the heart should be. I backed up, taking the blade. I looked around in fear. I have just killed someone. I looked down to see his body, lying there motionless. I then heard sirens, signaling the police. I ran. Before I exited the alleyway, a cop stood in front of me.

It has been three days since my arrest. I've slightly gotten over the kill though. In my jail cell, I heard a buzzing. I look over expected to see my parents for the hundredth time today, but instead see the princess of the night. I backed up, scared.

"Quickblade, we need to talk," she said. I nodded. "You have been evicted for the murder of Robanny Kelp, a serial killer. I have a few questions to ask," Luna said. I nodded looking at the ground. "First, how did you do it?" She asks. I explained about my pocket knife. She nods, listening. "Why did you kill him?" She asks. "I know it seems clear, but I want to know what happened," she continued. I explained why I was there in the first place. "Now, for my final question, will you please join me on a walk?" She asks. I shakingly nod. We walked through the halls, me shaking with complete fear. "Quickblade, I am assembling a group. A group of ponies willing to guard me and go out to missions," she said. I looked at her quizzically.

"But, isn't that what Celestial Guards are for?" I ask. She nods.

"Yes, but this is a group that works for me and in discreet," she continued. I nodded, listening. "This group of ponies are called Assassins, I want you to be a part of it," she continued. I looked at her wide eyed.

"Why me? I killed somepony!" I said.

"It's okay, that's going to happen, and you only killed that pony for a good cause," she said. I nodded. "So, will you join me?" She asks. I looked at her. I nodded. "Good, for your first assignment, get your weapons," she said. I nodded.

I stood in front of the weapons set before me. Ranging from swords to guns. I looked at one pistol in particular. It seemed like a cannon-barrel pistol. I took it and put it in sheath. I look at all the melee weapons to see that I didn't like any of them. "Quickblade, do you want a blade?" She asks. "If you're looking for something discreet, there aren't any sadly," she continued. An idea clicked.

"I can make one!" I said. Luna smiles.

"Go on then," she said. After planning it out for over eight hours, I came up with a weapon. I'm gonna call them the Hidden Blades.
