Chapter 12-The Forest

As the trainers headed back into the castle, Matthew looked over at David, who was shifting nervously.

"You okay, dad?" he asked.

"Yes. I'm just wondering how we'll manage to get into contact with our world." David replied. "As far as I know, we don't have any means of cross dimensional communication."

"We'll find a way." Matthew replied. While the trainers who had originally arrived headed to their rooms to pack, the rest were brought to the throne room.

"So, Princess…" David asked. "Know any way to contact people across dimensions?"

"I do not.." Celestia replied. "If there was one, we would use it."

"I know Nate has a Giratina with him." Twilight said. "While Giratina said he couldn't take them home, maybe he can send a message?"

"That might work." David said. "When they come back, we'll ask."

Soon after, the rest of the trainers arrived. Nate opened Giratina's Master Ball, and the Distortion Pokemon formed.

"What is it you require, Master Nate?" he asked.

"Giratina, you said you couldn't move us across dimensions. But can you send a message to our world in any way?" Nate asked.

"I can attempt to do so." Giratina said. "It will take time, however."

"Alright. Do what you need to do." Nate said.

"If that is the case, I believe staying in Ponyville rather than Canterlot would be better." Celestia said. "Many ponies see you as suspicious. I believe in...ahem...fresh starts."

"Sounds good." David said. "We taking a train there?"

"I could teleport you, if you want." Celestia said. "It would certainly be faster."

"Do it." Matthew said. As they teleported out of the throne room, Celestia looked over at the door opening, revealing a sleepy Princess Luna.

"I overslept, sorry. Did I...yawn...miss anything?" she asked.
Celestia chuckled.

"You have no idea." She said.

======================================

As the trainers and ponies appeared in Twilight's castle, Matthew stretched and sighed.

"Well, Nate, let's wait a while, see if Giratina's ready."

"Sure." Nate said. "Let's have some fun."

As Nate sent out Giratina, who immediately set to work with Twilight on sending the message, Nate and the other trainers decided to take a walk around town. A few ponies stared at them, though many just waved or nodded. Matthew did his best to stay pleasant, as he knew he was in unfamiliar territory. Then, Nate overheard a conversation.

"I tell you, Scoots, that was not an animal from the Everfree!"

"Well, what else could it be? I mean, it was a giant turtle, with a tree on its back!"

"And It protected us from that Hydra!"

"Excuse me." Nate said, walking over to three fillies. "Giant turtle with a tree on its shell?"

"Yeah...." the fillies said.

"Did it look like this?" Nate asked, pulling out his Pokedex and displaying the image of Torterra, the Continent Pokemon. The fillies took one look and nodded.

"Thanks." Nate said. "I'll be leaving now. Where'd you find it?"

"Over in the Everfree, near the Castle of the Sisters." one of the fillies replied.

"Thanks again." Nate said, walking off. Rejoining the group, he told them of the mysterious Torterra, and they gasped.

"A Torterra, here?" Matthew asked.

"Yeah." Nate replied. "Those kids gave me a location, too. I think I need to catch it."

"You can't resist, can you?" Abigail asked.

"Yeah. I'll see if the ponies know anyone who can guide me there." Nate said. After consulting with Fluttershy, Nate headed into the forest to find Zecora. After a ten-minute walk, he arrived at her hut.

"Welcome, human, to my home." She said. "Are you searching for the guardian of the Everfree biome?"

"Yeah, that Torterra. How do you know about it?" Nate asked.

"Many times for health, it has come. Then again for food and some." Zecora replied.

"Where is it? Do you know?" Nate asked.

"Yes, indeed. Follow the river till you find the great tree seed." she said.

"Thank you." Nate said. Following Zecora's instructions, he soon found himself at the base of a colossal tree with a hollowed out trunk. Nate walked over, and touched the trunk of the tree.

Rumble...Rumble…

Nate turned to face a cave near the tree. Slowly, a Torterra emerged. It huffed slightly at the sight of Nate.

"Tor…" it rumbled. "Tor...Terra."

Nate smiled as he sent out his Infernape. The Flame Pokemon roared as it faced its opponent. Torterra's eyes widened, then, they furrowed. Torterra growled and charged forward.

"Use Blaze Kick!" Nate yelled. Infernape's leg burned with fire, and it slammed into Torterra's face. Due to Torterra's Ground typing, he resisted the attack. Torterra slammed one of its legs into the ground, and sharp stone pillars began to cascade towards Infernape.

"Stone Edge! Dodge it!" Nate yelled. Infernape managed to leap out of the way of the Rock-type attack. Torterra then growled and lunged, biting Infernape several times. Infernape groaned as he flew backward, as Torterra's Crunch had done quite a bit of damage.

"Use Bulk Up!" Nate yelled. Infernape flexed its muscles, raising its Attack and Defense stats.

"Now, Acrobatics!"

Infernape launched towards Torterra at blinding speed, striking several times. But before Infernape could land the knockout blow, Torterra grabbed his leg using Crunch and threw him to the ground. Torterra then unleashed Earthquake, dealing massive damage to Infernape. As Infernape stood up shakily, Torterra summoned four ethereal swords, which clashed together.

"Swords Dance, eh?" Nate said. "Infernape, use Close Combat!"

Infernape lunged forward, unleashing a powerful series of lightning fast punches and kicks. Torterra endured the attack for a few seconds before using Stone Edge at a very close range. Infernape was hit by the attack and was carried by the stone pillars straight into a cliff face. As Infernape stood up, then dropped to one knee, Nate gasped slightly.

"C'mon, Infernape, we CAN WIN THIS!" he yelled. Infernape suddenly glowed a brilliant red, and he stood up, his fiery mane and tail burning with greatly increased passion. Torterra braced itself, planting its legs firmly in the ground.

"Infernape, BLAZE KICK!" Nate yelled. Infernape's leg burned white-hot and it lunged at lightning speed. Torterra was caught off-guard, and Infernape's attack sent it back several feet. Then, Torterra roared and slammed the ground. Thick, twisted vines began to churn out of the ground and lunge towards Infernape.

"Use Acrobatics!" Nate yelled. Infernape used the Flying-type move to dodge Torterra's Frenzy Plant for a few seconds, but three vines managed to lash the Fire-type enough to send it flying to the ground in a plume of dust.

"Infernape!" Nate yelled as the dust settled. Infernape lay knocked out, under a few rocks. Torterra roared in victory, while Nate walked forward and revived his partner.

"Good job, buddy." Nate said.

"Nape'." Infernape replied as Nate sprayed a Full Restore on several of his wounds. Then, Nate heard footsteps. Torterra approached and motioned with his head to the base of the tree. Nate and Infernape stood up and followed it inside. Nate gasped upon seeing a pile of stones in the middle of the base of the tree, and atop the pile was an old, cracked, and rusted Poke Ball.

"So, you had a trainer once?" Nate asked Torterra, who nodded.

"And..,your trainer died and is buried here?" Nate added. Torterra nodded again. Nate brushed the dust off the Poke Ball, and smiled slightly. Then, he saw letters in the trunk of the tree, carved by an unknown means.

To whoever finds my remains…

I have lived a life seeking power. To be the absolute strongest. My time is over now. I ask whoever finds me this one favor.

Take care of my beloved Torterra. Treat him the way I could not. Love him, bond with him, train him.

Goodbye…

The rest of the carving was faded and worn. Torterra looked at Nate, who had started to cry. Torterra looked at Infernape, who gave a small nod. Soon, Nate smiled again and touched Torterra's nose, cupping in with his hand.

"Torterra, will you come with me?" he asked quietly. "I might not be the trainer your previous one was...but I'll do my best to make do."

Torterra gave an approving huff.

"Alright. Go, Ultra Ball." Nate said. Torterra nodded as it entered the Ultra Ball. It wobbled three times, then clicked. Nate picked it up and smiled.

"Welcome to the team, Torterra." he said. As he walked out, followed by Infernape, Nate beamed. Then, a ghostly voice spoke, but no one heard him.

Thank you...young trainer...thank you….

"Where'd Nate scamper off to?" Twilight asked, noticing he was missing.

"He said something about heading into the Everfree, and something else about a Torterra." Matthew said. Then, Nate walked in.

"Caught it." he said proudly.

"Congratulations, Master Nate." Giratina said. "Let us send our message."
