Chapters The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter 1 the trial
It was dark and noisy. The sack that was covering Patholis face and head was removed and the light of the room flooded into his eyes. He was in the grand court room of the daemon world and the King of all daemons was staring at him on top of his throne. Circular seats of stone wrapped around the central plinth on which Patholis stood. He was not bound with rope or shackles but a physic ward flowed in the air. Rising from the edge of the plinth to the roof of the room. The seats were filled with people with hate and disgust on their faces. They stared at Patholis as if they could see the black hole of where a soul would lay. They were shouting at him, obscenities which should not be repeated and comments about Patholis’ family.
Then to bring the room to silence the Daemon king banged a gable against a worn stone slab at the side of his throne.
‘Order! Order! We shall have order!’ the daemon king spoke with the regalcy he had earned so long ago.
The room silenced as the daemon king started what they were all here for, the trial.
‘As you all know until now no daemon has ever stood where he is standing now. For that to change under my rule is an insult to me’ Announced the daemon king.
Patholis stood in the basic tunic which the prison guards had given him before. He looked at his old mentor deep in the eye; he knew when he was lying.
‘We are here because that boy...’
The daemon king referred to Patholis as a boy because even though Patholis’ current age rivals that of the oldest elder tree he was still young in the eyes of his fellow daemons, especially to the ancient daemon king.
‘Chose to murder one of his fellow kind and disrupt the delicate balance which we rely on for further power over the mortals. Now how do you plea?’
Patholis will not deny what he has done he only ever would kill if there was no other way. If the daemon king judged him as the friend he is the Patholis he would declare him innocent. But he had to be fair and Patholis wasn’t going to hold it against him, he knew he had to judge him as the king he is.
‘I plea guilty of all charges.’
‘Oh…and why is that.’
‘I am not proud of what I did but I know I had no other choice.’
‘Hmm…since there are no witnesses or character statements I shall now choose your punishment.’
Patholis knew that the only suitable punishment for his crimes would be eternal torcher; still he hoped that his old friend was going to give him his own brand of mercy. But he wasn't going to get his hopes up.
‘Knowing that execution is not an option for you, you shall be put to use.’
The room filled with raised eye brows and confused murmurs pass from mouth to ear. Those who know of the teacher/student relationship between Patholis and their king knew that he was going to go ‘light’ on him.
‘There is a world similar to ours but different. this world is known as Equestria. You are to become to protector of the mortal realm of Equestria. To be its guardian in times of need.’
Rage filled the room as people were intent on expressing their views on the king’s verdict. The daemon king wanted silence once again.
‘All will be quiet!’ as he shouted he again smashed his gable against the stone slab.
‘All, leave!’ All in the room stood up and bowed to their king in respect also in fear for they knew if they didn't do as they were told by their king they would stand where Patholis stood.
‘Now!’ The daemons in the room one by one teleported out of the room.
‘Sorry about that.’ said the daemon king but this time lacking his regal tone and replacing it with a more informal one. He lowered the ward which kept Patholis on the plinth but he did not move.
‘I had to keep to the book with the trial but the verdict is my choice.’
‘For a second there I though you were being serious about that whole protector thing.’ Said Patholis with a underline level of smugness which was removed when his friend spoke again.
‘I was being serious. If people see you round here again they will lose faith in me. I'm sorry but they wouldn’t miss this.’
The king reached with his hand out to Patholis and opened it to revile a shard of black stone.
‘Take it I have no use for it anyway.’ Said the daemon king as Patholis took the shard from his massive hand.
‘It’s not much and when used it can't be undone.’ What the king had given Patholis was lathorlite. A source of great power in the mortal realm but in the realm of daemons useless. Patholis put on a face of confusion.
‘Don't give me that look. You will go to Equestria and if its rulers require assistance you will help them no matter what. Understood? And if they see a daemon offering help they may think twice.’ Patholis knew he would have you use the energy within the shard to change his form to one native to Equestria.
‘Will it hurt.' Patholis said who had never encountered this kind of magic before.
'Only for a second, I've set it to alicorn.'
'Who are the rulers?’
‘Two soon to be fellow alicorns known as Celestia and Luna.’ The daemon king looked at Patholis in the eye.
‘Patholis keep that world safe. If any thing happens beyond your control summon me.’ The daemon king pointed with his massive finger at the shard of lathorlite which Patholis held in his hand.
‘I will do my best.’
Then the daemon king opened a portal to the realm of mortals, it being a little harder than usual. Patholis turned away from his friend and walked casually into the swirling maelstrom of energy and light.
It was just a flash, he could see worlds fly pass at great speed to see one directly before him.
Then his eyes opened to a sideways world. Lying on grass wet with due in the middle of a field and looked at the sun on the horizon. Rising…no not rising pushed up by a white alicorn with a long blue, green and pink hair.
‘Now that’s something you don’t see every day.’
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter:2 Welcome to Equestria
Chapter: 2 welcome to Equestria
Celestia had raised the sun hundreds of times…no thousands of times before. Every time she did she could feel those who looked upon sun, felt its warmth and thanked for its arrival. But this time something was different, she could feel something new feel the warmth of her sun. She couldn’t put her hoof on it but it bugged her all the way on the flight back to Chanterlot.
It was almost as if something alien had arrived in her Equestria.
After seeing the alicorn raise the sun Patholis pushed himself to his feet. One half of his basic tunic now wet due to the due covered grass.
He looked around seeing a long plain of grass extend on for miles. Two mountain ranges came close together but separated by this plain. On the horizon he could see trees and wildlife.
Next to him was a small body of water only the size of a pond you would find in the gardens of the fish lovers. He walked over to the pond; he got close enough to see his own reflection in the water. That was what he looked like now but in his right hand he held the larthorlite which would turn that reflection into a memory.
With a quick squeeze the energy within the black stone flowed into his body and with a second of blinding pain Patholis’ body started to change.
He woke. His vision was a daze and he felt lightheaded. He pulled his hand to press it against his forehead but what responded was not his hand but a grey hoof.
‘ARRGGG!’ Patholis knew what an alicorn looked like but to him it was still quite a shock. Quickly he turned his head to face behind him, he saw not what was behind him but.
‘Wings? A tail? A horn? What’s that?’ Patholis’ eyes were drawn from his grey wings and tail but to a small picture where the top of his back legs met his flank. As if a part of his skin was a half sun and half-moon as a crest on a shield.
‘Some one better explain this?’ He turned to the pond and realised he was talking to himself looked at his new reflection in the water. What looked back at him was a male alicorn with grey wings and tail plus coat.
‘It’s ok. Don’t panic everything is under control. It’s better this way if they see a daemon offering help they may misunderstand me.’ Patholis talked out loud to hear a smirk from his audience at his recent remark.
But none came for he had no audience, he was alone here in this world but he had a job to do.
It had been nearly an hour since Celestia had risen the sun but she still stood on the balcony where she landed. She looked out to the long plain below and while blocking out the dim of the hustle and bustle of Canterlot city, she tried to locate the alien in her world. Only to be interrupted by her sister Luna. Celestia had told her of what she felt but she thought it to be another of her sister’s ‘phases’.
‘Tia? What are you still doing out here, come in and have some breakfast.’
‘I can’t lulu, I just sense something weird. It’s like…’ Luna cut her off as she had heard this before.
‘There something new in the world and it’s alien and doesn’t belong here?’
‘Yes, it’s exactly that. I can feel something and I’m going to find out what.’
‘Well not without something to eat you aren’t.’
‘I’m fine; I’m not even hun…’ Celestia’s stomach rumbled in protest.
‘Looks like someone disagrees.’ Said Luna while playfully poking her sister ribs with her hoof.
‘Ok I’m coming in.’ Luna allowed her sister to go ahead to wait one more second on the balcony she too could feel the presence of something new.
After looking over his new body Patholis was quite impressed with the results. Big strong wings, but he didn’t know how to fly. Long powerful horn but he didn’t know any magic he was sure this body can perform. He looked at the pile of torn rags that was he previous attire and remembered the larthorlite.
Crap, how was he to take it with him. He looked at his hoofs.
‘How do they carry anything with these?’
Patholis was not sure if it was safe to carry the shard of rock in his mouth. So he tore the rags of cloth and made a kind of band which kept the larthorlite attached to his back right leg.
Now the only thing on his mind was his mission.
Now that alicorn flew off in the direction, over the mountain. How do I get there, walk? He looked at his wings neatly tucked in at the side of his body.
Yes defiantly walk.
The sun was about a quarter of the way in its journey over the sky.
So with his mission in mind he set off in the direction of the alicorn from before.
It being difficult at first now having four legs now. It reminded him of babies crawling on the floor. But he would have to get used to that as it was going to be his main form of transport from now on.
It had not been long for Patholis to find a dirt road leading to the right mountain range what the alicorn disappeared behind about two hours ago now. He didn’t mind the walking; it was not knowing where he was going which what was really getting to him.
Fate seemed to be almost stubborn as to not send anyone which Patholis could ask for directions or where he was for starters. He walked along the road for ages finally reaching the base of the mountain. He noticed that the road went around the mountain where a thin mountain road led along the range, until it turned right an unknown distance away.
The sun was in the centre of the sky now and was now unleashing it full heat at Patholis’ skin. Can I even get a tan? He thought. As the right turn approached he tried to think of what he will say to this ‘Celestia’ and ’Luna’ when he finally got to where ever they were.
Err hello I’m here to protect you so just let me do that and are we good? No he would have to plan how he was going to tell them.
Then he looked ahead to see the right turn was only a few metres ahead. He walked or trotted a little faster as he rounded the turn to see a small valley where the road had cut through the mountains. Then he stopped to see finally where he was going.
It was a city made of white rock. Towers rose up and seemed to stretch out over the cliff which the city is built on. The roofs where gold, domed and at their peak a flag waved carelessly in the wind. A water fall came down next to the city from the mountains. The water flowed under a lowed drawbridge which revealed a golden archway and raised portcullis.
That’s where they are. Finally Patholis could start on his new job as this world protector weather ‘Celestia’ or ‘Luna’ wanted his help or not.
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter: 3 Victory
It had nearly been a flash. One second the wedding was going beautifully with Princess Mi Amore Cadenza walking down the aisle then Twilight ran in shouting. She was followed by… the Princess?
Everyone in the room turned to look at the pony, she had clearly seen better days. Her mane was messed up and many scrapes and small cuts covered her body.
‘She’s a changeling! She takes the form of somepony you love and feeds of your love for them.’
All eyes then turned to the Princess standing at the top of the aisle. Her eyes starting to glow green and then green fire encircled her. When the fires died down the Princess was gone replaced by a tall black skinned changeling. It had green eyes and two blueish insect wings.
‘Right you are princess and as queen of the changelings it is up to me to find food for my subjects.’
Green flashes appear out of the crowd either side of the aisle. They were changelings to. As quick as they could fly with their two insect wings they fired magic bolts at, the still wide open jawed, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. They had no time to react in seconds their hoofs where bound to the floor with magic. Anyone who had a horn or wings found it to be covered with a magic spell, which stopped unicorn magic and Pegasi wings from moving.
They turned towards Twilight and Cadence. They put a fight but soon had their feet and horns (plus wings for cadence) covered in a magic spell.
The other ponies in the room started a stamped in which everypony who wasn’t kept still by magic ran out the room, bumping into Twilight and cadence who were still at the entrance.
‘Looks like I have won! Canterlot is mine!’ shouted the queen changeling hovering just above the ground by the quick movements of its wings.
‘Not if I stop you!’ the princess announced as everypony turned to look at her.
‘I will defeat you!’ as princess Celestia said this, a white light appeared from her horn and a blast of magic went flying towards the changeling queen.
It quickly reacted by firing its own green magic to form a fight of strength between the queen and the princess. Then the green magic took over from the white and went right to Celestia’s horn.
The blast knocked her all the way to where Twilight was watching with fear, her tiara landed with a ding next to her face. The end of her horn was charred and blackened.
She was alive but the damage had been done.
‘Princess!? Are you ok !?’ said Twilight her voice getting right into Celestia’s head. She knew she could not defeat the changeling queen. She needed help.
The changeling queen hovered over to the injured alicorn. Chrysalis towered over the fallen princess.
‘Finally my victory is here. I’m now Queen of Equestria!
Celestia had a full blown argument in her mind. Was she to call him forth and be rid of the invaders? Or should she try another tactic, one that doesn’t involve violence. In the seconds she had she made her mind up.
Celestia whispers something under her breath.
‘What was that my new prisoner?’
Celestia turned her head to face the changeling.
‘Patholis I require your aid!’
Confused faces looked at the princess. Even twilight, was only a hoof span away, had the same look of confusion on her face.
‘Err? .Princess who is Patholis?’
Celestia gave no answer.
‘Does the pathetic princess need help?’ said Chrysalis her voice cutting right into Celestia’s heart. She felt sorry for what was about to happen.
‘Answer m…’
The queen of the changelings was cut off by the sound of an explosion in the distance.
‘Oh no her army has breached the shield.’ Twilight said with a worried tone.
‘No, something far worse than an army of changelings.’ Answered Celestia.
Before anypony could react or draw breath a black stream dark cloud smashed through one of the windows of the throne room of Canterlot castle.
It slowed down and landed where shining armour still stood, his eyes still green with the changeling magic. The dark cloud poured down the steps and at its centre formed a figure.
An alicorn, male with a grey coat, tail and wings plus a sharp horn extending from its forehead. All eyes looked upon the figure with fear, anticipation and for Celestia only sorrow.
It walked casually down the steppes until its eyes opened to see the carnage before it. Celestia on the floor wounded, seven unknown ponies stuck to the floor with some kind of magic. But there is was standing over the downed Celestia, a tall black changeling. Patholis’ felt his rage build as he has a personal hatred for their kind.
‘Princess, am I to understand that you summoned me willingly?’
The princess in question lowered her head in shame for having to give the following answer.
‘Yes Patholis.’
‘Then the walls are breached, the kingdom is threatened now, I am here to help.’
The changeling queen had no time to react he was too quick. Patholis shot at her with all his speed, shadow blade unsheathed for all to see.
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter:5 Equestria's shield
Chapter: 5 Equestria’s shield
Patholis looked at the two alicorns staring at him, he felt uneasy he hadn’t been able to fully check his new body. Maybe they can see some weakness or abnormality.
He recognised them both, the white one was the one he saw lifting the sun and the blue one was the one standing atop of the tower.
They stood there in silence, unsure as to what was going on Patholis broke the silence.
‘So are you Celestia and Luna?’
The two alicorns seemed surprised at their names being said without title.
‘There should be a princess in there somewhere.’ Said the taller one, her voice regal it reminded him of a female daemon king.
‘Sorry princess as you can imagine I am new here.’ Said Patholis while in a small bow.
‘Who are you? Why are you here? Where did you come from?’ the taller one demanded.
‘I am Patholis. I am here to serve. I came from a land far away from here.’
‘Serve whom?’ said the smaller and presumably younger one.
‘You, your majesty. I am here as your servant.’
‘We have enough of those.’ Said the taller one.
‘Err I mean not a servant of trivial things such as food and comfort. I mean a servant with great power ready to defend.’
‘Why do you think we need a defender?’ the smaller one was clearly more inquisitive of their guest.
‘I do not, it is my punishment.’ Patholis said grimly, it was fact he was going to have to deal with it.
‘Punishment? For want crime?’
‘I saved the lives of billions but I had to take the life of a friend.’
‘Who sent you on this punishment?’ said the taller one. Patholis had to think about this one, he was going to lie.
‘You may have heard of him? The king of all daemons.’
At the mention of his name the alicorns shivered with fear. Yes they had heard of him. The devastation he leaves in his wake for sport.
The taller one spoke again but with the slightest hint of fear in her voice. Patholis sensed this and tried to release the tension of the situation.
‘No need to fear princesses the king daemon is not angry at you or your performance as rulers. He merely needed to find a suitable punishment for me.’
‘Oh… well still we do not require your help.’ The taller one said proudly.
‘That is reassuring but me coming here is a one way trip I cannot go back.’
‘How did you get here?’ said the smaller one her voice softer when giving the question.
‘The daemon king made a portal for me and I walked through so here I am.’
‘Give us one moment.’ Said the taller one while turning to face her sister and inviting her to do the same.
‘What are we to do?’ said Celestia her mind still trying to take in what has just been said.
‘I don’t know should we trust him? He seems to have come a long way just to be turned down.’ Luna’s voice was much softer when talking to her sister.
‘Well your right there. Let’s give him a chance to prove himself.’
‘I don’t understand you mean a test?’
‘Yes, exactly that is what we shall do.’
Celestia turned to the guest in her presence.
‘If you are truly here to serve me and my sister…’
‘Wait you two are sisters?’
‘Yes problem?’ Celestia was annoyed at the interruption but she kept her ‘cool’.
‘No it actually makes sense.’
‘Anyway you are to complete a test of our choice. Will you accept?’
‘Yes, princess Celestia?’
‘Yes that is me and this is my sister Luna?’ Celestia said while pointing a hoof at her sister.
‘Hello.’ Luna’s voice welcoming now that she knew the he knew her name.
‘I accept your challenge but may I have some time to prepare?’ Patholis knew that only a small amount of energy remained in the shard of larthorlite, which was still wrapped tightly around his right hind leg.
‘Sure for any loyal protector of Equestria.’
With that Patholis was led by guards to a physician who gave Patholis a full physical check over.
He had strong legs, wings and a sharp horn. The princesses had watched the check with intrigue.
While there the physician had explained that alicorns are rare, that the only ones are relatives of the princesses. Patholis then had to explain that this body was not his and that his true form is something that they would find most scary.
Patholis asked about the mark on his flank, the physician explained that it was his cutie mark which represents his destiny.
The half sun and moon on the shield seemed to be evidence as to his purpose here.
Luna also took the liberty of explaining that she and her sister lift the sun and moon every day. Then Patholis had to explain the shard of rock which had kept close to his person at all times.
Then came the test, he had been led all around the castle. He was let to clean himself, which was interesting for him in that this was a totally new body. He was then given a small meal and then led back the throne room with Celestia and Luna waiting for him.
‘Welcome back Patholis I hope you are clean and full.’ Said Celestia her voice still regal but with an underlying tone of interest.
‘That I am your majesty. Dare I ask as to the nature of my test?’
‘Yes, let me show you something.’
With that Celestia walked back from her sister to a balcony which had a full view of the plain which Patholis had trekked early that day.
‘Follow.’ Celestia called from the balcony.
Patholis started to walk towards the throne and the balcony, as he walked he inevitably went past Princess Luna. She just looked at Patholis with amazement, she and her sister where supposed to be the only alicorns in the world.
He gave her a look and small smile. Her cheeks turned the slightest red. Patholis realising what he was doing pointed his head forward and didn’t more it until her got to the balcony. Celestia was standing there looking out at the sun set.
Celestia looked out to the sun as it set knowing her sister was to soon lift the moon and bring forth the night. She turned the grey alicorn with great interest, before a few hours ago she was convinced that she and her sister were the only two alicorns in the world.
He walked up to her standing next to her only half a hoofs distance apart.
‘I try to rule this land fairly. I try to make sure everyone has enough food and has a warm bed for the night.’ Patholis was unsure as to how to respond to this so he simply nodded.
‘But no matter how many peace deals I make or alliances I build my kingdom still has enemies.’
‘Oh…and who are your enemy’s?’
‘They are just boarder disputes or usurper’s trying to take my throne away from me. But there is an individual who is a greater threat than all these combined.’
‘Who is that princess?’
‘He is a draconequus know as discord. Have you heard of him?’
It took no time for Patholis to come up with an answer.
‘I don’t recognise the name but I know of the draconequus. He should be the last one shouldn’t he?’
‘Yes, this morning he made a threat that he will conquer Equestria and plunge it into chaos.’
‘That will not do. I assume that my test has something to do with him.’
‘You assume correctly, I need you to…’ the princess stopped for she didn’t know what to say.
‘You need me to do what? Kill him?’
‘I don’t know. Has he done enough for me to justify murder?’ Celestia said softly
‘I wouldn’t be able to answer that but if you feel that your kingdom will be safer with him dead, then you have a good excuse there.’ Patholis said bluntly.
‘You think so?’
At this Patholis looked at the floor with uncertainty.
‘How many people have seen me here? Only your guard right?’
‘Maybe what’s your point?’
‘Who knows of my true purpose here? If you sent me out to kill this ‘discord’ then no one could trace it back to you.’
‘That could work but you’re not even armed.’ Celestia said while looking at Patholis’ empty hooves.
‘I can fix that.’ Patholis reached for the black shard which easily came off its rag holster.
Celestia knew what the shard was but had only read about larthorlite in books.
Patholis held the shard in his hoof; it attached its self to his hoof via magic. Patholis could once again feel the power inside it, albeit a lot less power as he had used a lot in his transformation. With a quick and simple thought the shard glowed with black light. Its shape stated to change in Patholis’ hoof. It grew in size, its sides slowly turned sharp. In a matter of seconds the shard had formed into the shape of a sword. It was the same colour as the shard was, black and it pulsed with energy.
‘I shall call it shadow blade.’ Said Patholis while proudly holding his new weapon.
‘Wow, I have lived for a long time and I will live for longer still but that was amazing.’ Celestia said while looking at shadow blade.
‘Now,’ said Patholis while turning to face Celestia. ’do I have a mission princess?’
‘Yes Patholis the daemon, your mission is to kill the draconequus know as discord. Do it in my name but not my honour.’
‘I understand.’
‘Go protector of Equestria, do your duty, be Equestria’s shield.’ As Celestia said this Patholis started to walk from the balcony. He put shadow blade into its invisible scabbard, and whispered to himself.
‘Equestria’s shield.’
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter: 6 My duty to you
The sky was filled with stars, but they were not stars they were memories.
Long ago, nearly ten life times to a mortal, Patholis to protect his mind from insanity encased himself in his own mind.
Every thought, memory and idea in his mind was represented by a star in the sky. He could visit anyone of them in a second but he didn’t he had long ago looked over everyone twice.
He knew that daemons lived forever yet immortality wasn’t a birth right of his people, it was a gift which had to be earned.
He had earned his immortality by thanklessly saving to lives of billions but he had to kill a close friend to do so. That memory would be up there somewhere as a star he could visit.
He often went to the memories he had of the two alicorns which he was still in service to. he never got a chance to tell them how he felt about a certain princess of the night.
They must be doing well not needing my help but I am a bit lonely. Patholis could only think for he had no mouth, he was a cloud of energy flying inside his own mind.
Sometimes a star would falter just for a second and then nothing it would simply go. Patholis knew that he was losing memories, that when all the stars go out he would lose his mind.
Patholis had to be ready to return to the ‘real’ world in such short notice that he wasn’t sure if he could. Placing himself inside his own mind was risky at first but he wasn’t sure how to get out.
The lights started to go out quicker, and then only a handful remained left. One by one they died.
‘No! This is too quick! I should have more time!’ he screamed in his mind.
Now only one light remained, shining ten times greater than that of the other lights, now dead. The light from the star enveloped him. It overcame him and pulled him. Towards the light.
Being pulled out of your own mind wasn’t as weird as an experience as he had assumed. Pulled by the light then black cloud to some place familiar the throne room of Canterlot castle.
He emerged from the black mist, struggling to keep his balance; he walked down the steps and quickly assessed the situation.
Princess Celestia wounded nothing serious.
Five unknown ponies stuck to floor with magic.
Another unknown pony plus a pink alicorn. ‘Princess have you been busy while I was away?’ Patholis thought to himself.
There it was towering over Celestia. A changeling, Patholis’ rage boiled at the sight of it. He hated their kind, feeding of love they are enemies of the daemons.
He suppressed his rage and kept it formal.
‘Princess, am I to understand that you summoned me willingly?’ knowing that she could have been forced to.
Celestia lowered her head in shame for having to give the following answer.
‘Yes Patholis.’
‘Then the walls are breached, the kingdom is threatened now I am here to help.’
It was time to strike, within a second Patholis had willed shadow blade out of its invisible scabbard. It attached itself to his hoof with magic.
He jumped at the changeling its face filled with horror. Patholis planed his attack; he was not going to show mercy, it didn’t deserve it.
With a reversed grip of shadow blade he plunged his sword at the changeling. In the half second it had to react it chose to move to his left.
‘Bad move.’ Thought Patholis as he shifted his sword to his stronger right hoof.
Thrusting it into side of the changeling. It let out a deafening scream as black ichor bled from the horrific wound. All the ponies in the room let out a gasp which echoed through the room.
Without emotion he pulled his sword from the changeling, now cowering on the floor in the foetal position, and walked towards the wounded Celestia. Her face that of shame, horror and disgust.
‘Are you all right princess?’ said Patholis while offering Celestia a hoof. She took it and Patholis pulled her to her hoofs.
‘Yes I’m fine. Sorry it’s been so long I just didn’t need help. For a second I thought you weren’t going to arrive.’
‘Why wouldn’t I, protecting you is my duty to...you.’ At this Celestia smiled she looked into Patholis’ eyes and a small blush appeared on her face.
Patholis then walked over to the changeling, bringing shadow blade up into a fatal thrust.
‘No! She must stand trial!’ Shouted Celestia running in between Patholis and the changeling.
‘That is if it lasts that long.’ Patholis said bluntly.
Patholis ducked narrowly avoiding a bolt of magic fired at him by one of a group of six changelings. Their faces in horror at the attack on their queen. They were going to fight to the death for vengeance.
They charged running head on at the grey alicorn, his face unchanged as he charges up his daemonic powers. With a simple thrust of shadow blade a wave of energy lashed out at the changeling. None of them moved out of the way in time. Their bodies evaporated with the sudden influx of energy. Only black ash and dust remained of them.
An unfamiliar voice was next to speak.
‘What kind of magic was that? Your horn didn’t light up or anything?’ it was the purple unicorn next to the pink alicorn.
‘It is daemonic; it can’t use an organic outlet so it needs one artificial.’ Said Patholis while holding up shadow blade with pride. He liked this pony; it is the only one who has taken interest in him.
‘I have never heard of that kind of magic.’
‘I wouldn't think so ponies can’t use it.’ Patholis walked over to the pony a small smile on his face.
‘Oh, so what are you a changeling?’
‘Not in the slightest.’ Said Patholis while with a wave of his sword the magic keeping the pony to the floor was undone. Changeling magic is the easiest to undo.
‘Thanks, my name is twilight sparkle. You are Patholis I presume.’
‘Yes, let me say twilight sparkle it is an honour to be in your presence.’ Patholis said while in a bow to the unicorn. Whose cheeks were bright red.
With another wave of his sword the rest of the changeling magic in the room dissipated. Patholis then turned back to Celestia his face serious.
‘Princess, changelings are hive animals, where there are few there is an army.’
‘What do you say we do? Canterlot is protected by a shield produced by our captain of the royal guard.’ Celestia said proudly turning to look at shining armour still stood at the top of the steps.
‘Oh no, if he is under a spell then the shield is weakened.’
A gasp echoed the room except Patholis who ran to the side of the hypnotized colt. He waved his sword in front of the face of shining armour.
‘Wake up you love dazed colt!’
Shining armour collapsed in a heap of exhaustion.
‘W-what happened?’
Twilight ran next to shining armour, knocking Patholis out of the way, and pulled him up with her hoof.
‘Brother? Are you ok?’ she said while looking into her brothers eyes.
‘Yeah, I’m fine Twily. Where’s cadence?’ As he said this cadence ran to shining armour.
‘Shiny I’m here its ok.’ Cadence and ‘shiny’ shared a sweet embrace neither one wanting to lets go until Patholis spoke.
‘I apologise for the interruption but the current situation is far from fine.’ Patholis said this while standing on the balcony outside of the throne room, pointing to an army of changelings swarming through a crack in the shield which is supposedly protecting Canterlot.
The room filled with fear, Celestia was the next to speak.
‘Shining armour.’ at this shining armour stood at attention his hoof in salute.
‘Yes, princess?’
‘Assemble the guard, Canterlot needs its protectors.’ At this shining armour immediately started to run out of the throne room to the barracks.
‘And so does Equestria.’ Announced Patholis. ‘But I alone cannot fight an army.’
‘I don’t expect you to, girls?’ Celestia then turned to the five ponies, still stood by the side of the steppes.
‘Go get the elements of harmony!’
Then twilight sparkle, rainbow dash, Fluttershy, pinkie pie, applejack and rarity ran out the throne room to the vault where the elements are kept.
‘Patholis, go with them. The elements are a powerful weapon, even match for your dear shadow blade there.’ Said Celestia, while pointing a hoof a shadow blade now floating in its invisible scabbard.
‘This I have to see.’ Said Patholis who followed the mane six out of the throne room.
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter:7 Discords demise
Chapter: 7 Discords demise
The pink clouds rained chocolate milk.
Discord could see it all from his throne in a cave, atop a mountain on the edge of the plain. Discord smirked to himself, this will be too easy.
First Canterlot, next Equestria.
But something was not right; it was like something new was near. Then he saw him, a grey coated alicorn. Black sword held in thrust position, pointed at discord.
An assassin?
No his face, it had no emotion. Even the best assassins discord new of got a little ‘carried away’.
Those were the little and small thoughts discords brain could make before the alicorn shot at him. Discord dodged but only just.
The black sword cut deep into his throne as if it were butter through a hot knife. The alicorn ripped the sword free, cutting a chunk form the throne. Sending the swords edge straight to discords chest.
Discord did not foresee this; he expected a flashy air spin or something, right as the swords blade cut only centimetres into his flesh.
‘ARRRGGG!’ discord shouted as he tried to jump away. His arm reaching for his chest to stop the bleeding. He had to get some distance, and then he could strike.
He summoned magic from inside him and teleported to the caves entrance.
‘HA! Think you can kill me that easily?’
‘Yes.’ His voice was cold. Devoid of any sign of emotion or tiredness.’ But tonight I want of fight and kill something.’
Anger filled discord as he readied a pulse of magic to fire at the alicorn.
Patholis saw this and waited for it.
Discord shot his arms out, releasing a ball of magic at Patholis.
Patholis only smiled and said. ‘Primitive.’
He held his sword up as it was enveloped by the ball of magic, absorbing it. Shadow blade took in the magic, Patholis
spun around. His sword letting loose waves of discords magic back at him, its power tenfold its original power.
Discords face was that of fear, he held his hand to his face but the wave got him in his chest. Using the previous cut as a starting point to reach any vital organs.
The wave through him out of the cave, he went tumbling down the mountain side.
Discord awoke several seconds later, his body was broken. Rocks had made large bruises appear on his skin. His eyes were draw to a large charred gash in his chest.
Moments later his brain realised that he was in pain and acted accordingly. His body spammed as red hot pain consumed his senses.
But then it was gone. He felt energy run through his body; he no longer felt the pain.
Someone didn’t want him to feel pain.
He opened his eyes to see the alicorn standing over him, his face that of pity, sadness and regret.
Someone didn’t want him to feel his last pain.
It was over; he wanted it to come quick.
And it did.
Luna looked over the night covered plain that surrounded Canterlot, from the balcony which extended out from her bedroom.
It had been five hours since Patholis felt to complete his task. During that time her brain was filled with confusing thoughts about their new guest.
Did she feel anything for him?
Was there anything to be felt?
What would Celestia think if she felt something for Patholis?
Luna put these questions aside for the while as she saw a figure crossing the plain.
‘There you are you sexy…’ she stopped her speech as soon as she realised what she was going to say.
Luna quickly checked her room for anyone who could have heard her. She knew there was no one and there was no one, she just had to be sure.
‘Need to talk to someone about this.’ Thought Luna as she left her room to wake her sister.
There she was, the white alicorns chest slowly rose and fell as she was deep in sleep. Luna walked to her bedside. Lifting her hoof to poke Celestia in the ribs.
‘Sister wake up. Patholis is returning.’ Celestia responded in her half sleep daze.
‘We’ll deal with him in the morning. Give him a room, he will need some were to stay.’
Luna felt sad at her sister’s response but saw the logic in it. Her moon was in the middle of the sky.
Patholis walked to the outer wall of Canterlot castle. He was still to get fully used to his wings, but he could easily use them to vault over them. He landed with a semi-tumble into a court yard of some sort. He was greeted by a smiling princess Luna.
‘Hello princess.’ Patholis said while in mid bow.
‘Hi, please none of that and call me Luna.’ She said her cheeks a light shade of red.
‘Err…ok, I need to speak to you and your sister.’ He said while walking up closer to Luna.
‘Well I saw you coming and tried to wake her up.’
‘And?’ Patholis said with a single raised eye brow.
‘She’s not the waking up in the middle of the night kind of person.’
‘Ah.’
‘She said to get you a room and deal with this in the morning.’ Said Luna while directing Patholis with an out stretched hoof.
The walk to the bedrooms was a short one but Patholis couldn’t help but notice a smile on Luna's face.
He decided to ask.
‘Is everything all right Luna?’ he asked trying not to sound in anyway intrusive.
She responded by turning her head to face Patholis, while they were walking down the hall.
‘Oh yeah, I just remembered something funny that’s all.’ Luna stopped walking as she said this and opened a door with her magic.
Patholis walked into his room a turned around to thank Luna. When he did Luna was closer than he expected. Mere centimetres separating their muzzles.
'Say something now or never.' thought luna as she pondered the grey alicorn.
‘Oh…err, thanks for the room. I…’ Patholis was cut off by Luna's lip pressed tightly against his.
He did not struggle or push her away; it had been a long time since he had done something like this.
The kiss lasted for several seconds until; Luna pulled herself out and with a smile.
‘Good night Patholis.’ As she said this she closed Patholis’ room door with her magic.
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter:8 Weapons of mass harmony
Chapter: 8 Weapons of mass harmony
‘Sorry about the window!’ shouted Patholis, as he ran out the throne room to catch up with the others.
Celestia gave no response but a small smile appeared on her face, while looking at the shattered remains of Discords glass face.
Instead she turned to face the fatally wounded changeling, still bleeding out, lying on the floor.
‘Next time you think of trying to take my kingdom, include him in your plan.’ Celestia walked over towards the changeling queen.
‘Oh…I’m sorry there won’t be a next time.’ Said Celestia, her usually soft voice replaced with a harsh speech.
Princess cadence spoke with fear in her voice.
‘Tia? What are you doing?’ Celestia snapped back a response.
‘Defending my kingdom!’
Then she opened a portal to the Canterlot oubliette underneath the changeling.
Patholis found no difficulty in catching up with the ponies, but didn’t know where they were going.
‘Canterlot has changed.’ Thought Patholis as he ran up to Twilight and her companions.
They were standing in front of a huge door, clearly locked by some kind of magic.
Curiosity killed the silence.
‘So what are these ‘elements of harmony’?’ said Patholis as the ponies turned to him with faces of confusion.
Twilight opened her mouth to speak but Patholis came under fire from a barrage of questions.
‘Who are you?’ said an orange coated earth pony with a yellow mane.
‘How do you know Celestia?’ said a cyan coated Pegasus with a rainbow mane.
‘How did you do the cloud thing?’ said a white coated unicorn with a purple mane.
‘I like your mane.’ Whispered a yellow coated Pegasus with a pink mane.
‘Complement noted and filed.’ Thought Patholis, before he ended the barrage.
‘Stop! Verbal biography later! Changeling army invading Canterlot now!’
The ponies’ faces were of shock and realisation.
‘Listen we don’t have much time. Girls this is Patholis.’ Said Twilight who was now standing in between Patholis and the five ponies.
Their response was a compilation of ‘hellos’ and a ‘sup’ from the cyan pegasus.
‘This is Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Fluttershy.’ As twilight said this, the corresponding pony nodded to Patholis.
With the introduction over Patholis knew that time was running out.
‘Err weren’t we going somewhere?’ at this the group started to run to the vault which was where the elements of harmony where kept.
Running through the city was an experience for Patholis. All it did was remind him of how long he has been gone. He looked at the different buildings and towers, wondering what purpose they served.
While running the earth pony Twilight introduced to Patholis to be applejack saw Patholis’ confused face.
‘What? Ya never been to Canterlot before?’ she said while moving to run by Patholis’ side.
‘I have been to Canterlot before, just not ‘this’ Canterlot.’ After saying this Applejack was confused. Patholis saw this.
‘Err I’ve been gone a long time.’
Thinking back Patholis could not know how long he has been gone. It could be 100 or 1000 years but his mission remains unchanged.
They entered a large hall, yet smaller than the throne room they were in before. At its end was the large door encrusted with jewels.
‘This is it’ said Twilight running ahead of the group.
She stopped in front of the door, pointing her horn at. It glowed with purple light. The light extended from her horn, reaching out to the door. With a loud bang whatever spell or locking mechanism was undone. The door slid open to reveal a chest.
The six ponies crowded around the chest and released a collective gasp. Patholis meanwhile was craning his neck to try and look at the chest.
Inside the chest were five necklaces with a carved gem hanging from it. Each with its own colour and design. Also In the chest was a tiara, with a purple gem carved in the shape of a star.
The six ponies each put on a piece of the jewellery, the shape matching that of their cutie mark.
‘Are these the elements of harmony?’ said Patholis.
‘Yeah, aren’t they the coolest!’ announced Rainbow dash.
Patholis turned to Twilight.
‘So what do you plan on doing with them?’
‘Well all you have to do is to feel the magic flowing through you, and then let it out.’
‘Sounds simple, why does Celestia need you guys to use them. Can’t she use them?’ said Patholis with a puzzling look.
Twilight answered.
‘Err Celestia can’t use them because she is no longer connected to them.’
‘Why?’
‘Well it started ever since Luna’s ban…’
An explosion from the roof cut off Twilights speech. Dust rubble and debris fell from the new hole in the roof.
‘Get behind me!’ shouted Patholis as the ponies ran so Patholis was between them and the hole.
What came next was not expected by Patholis or the ponies taking refuge behind his flank.
It reminded him 1000s flies swarming around half eaten food.
Yet a swarm of changelings came in waves through the hole.
‘Whatever you’re going to do, do it now!’ Patholis threw a worried glance at Twilight.
Then he saw them. Twilight and the others were levitating in mid-air, with some sort of energy in an aura around them.
‘Her eyes are glowing.’ Stated Patholis, in his mind, while looking at Twilights white eyes.
From out their aura of energy came long rainbows, which encircled them and Patholis. The changeling swarmed around the bubble, being careful not to touch it. They formed like a multi coloured bubble.
Then a pulse of more energy came from the aura. The rainbow bubble suddenly expanded, knocking the changelings to the walls.
The bubble then enveloped the building; still expanding it knocked the flying changelings far away to lands unknown.
Within a few minutes all of Canterlot was free of changelings, who barely managed to get a foothold in the city.
After the ponies had stopped levitating Twilight took the time to go into more depth concerning the elements of harmony.
She spoke of mana, friendship and other things, yet Patholis’ attention was not on her but to him it felt as if something was missing.
Then he remembered…Luna.
‘Where is Luna?’ said Patholis cutting Twilight’s mini lecture.
Slightly confused by the interruption twilight she answered him.
‘Well she should have been at the ceremony but I…’ Twilight stopped as soon as a dark blue coloured alicorn rounded the corner to then.
She started at the ponies then her eyes were draw to the daemon in alicorn form.
‘Path?’ she said half confusion, half delight.
‘Lulu?’ he said as they both walked to each other, he pulled he in for a warm hug and a long kiss.
They broke after a good minute, six jaw dropped ponies staring at then.
Luna spoke into Patholis’ cheek but loud enough so the ponies could hear.
‘Don’t ever leave me again.’ She said as tears ran down her face.
‘I promise.’
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter: 9 Training
Falling asleep was easy as Patholis felt as if he was dreaming.
Even though it was a quick one, the kiss the he and Luna shared held great importance.
Physically he was 26.
Really he was 2937 years old.
1800 of those years spend within his own mind.
But for the remaining 1137 years, living amongst his own kind, he had never felt this before.
Love.
‘Really? Love? After one kiss and knowing her for less than a day, you decide that you’re in love with her.’ Patholis’ subconscious said in his mind.
‘Oh shut up.’ Patholis thought.
After being woken up at around 11 in the morning by gold amour clad ponies, Patholis was led to the throne room where he was in yesterday.
Princess Celestia sat on her throne at the end of the room, a welcoming smile on her face.
‘Leave us.’ She said. With that all the guards, servants and nobles who stood at the sides of the room left.
‘Come closer Patholis.’ Celestia said while gesturing Patholis to move.
He complied and walked closer to Celestia still sitting on her throne. An awkward silence fell upon the room, then to be broken by Celestia.
‘I assume that your mission was a success?’
Patholis looked at Celestia to answer, but he noticed that she was staring at him. As if she could see right through him.
‘Yes, otherwise I wouldn’t have returned.’ Shock ran thought his body. What he just said was obvious so why the slightly intimidating stare?
‘Luna told me about last night.’
Crap.
Time to face the music.
‘She kissed me.’
‘I was used.’
‘She very pretty.’
Those lines flew through his mind, his subconscious daring him to say one of them. Or maybe all of them.
‘You need to learn how to use those properly.’ She said while pointing a hoof towards him. ‘I can teach you.’
‘I’m sorry princess …wait what?’ did the princess of the day just offer to teach me how to kiss.
‘I can teach you how to use your wings better. Luna said you fumbled your landing when you came back to the castle.’
Thank the stars. Getting into a love triangle with two demigod alicorns is not on the list of things to do.
He was never really afraid of heights, but atop of the tallest tower in Canterlot castle that was being put into question.
Following Celestia up the stairs was easy, as the view was nice. But the view towering over Canterlot was near terrifying.
They busy city below seemed completely oblivious to what was going on up here.
Adding to that the winds at the top would send him straight back to his mentor, if not for some friction spell on the floor.
Patholis could only just understand what Celestia was saying.
‘Flying is really easy, one you get the hang of it. All you got to do is flap your wings.’
‘I know that but can’t we do this somewhere safer?’ said Patholis while leaning over the edge of the platform, on which they now stood.
‘Now where’s the fun in that?’ she whispered.
After five seconds the only thing going through Patholis’ mind was.
‘AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH’
After being pushed from the tower Patholis found himself falling, fast.
Then another thought went through his mind.
‘I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.’ He said in his mind.
Not wanting to die Patholis unfurled his wide grey wings, and started to flap them as if… well his life did depend on it.
‘That’s for kissing my sister!’ shouted Celestia a few seconds after pushing Patholis off the tower. She hoped he heard her, but with this wind it was unlikely.
Celestia wasn’t mad, but it has been a while since either sister found love.
‘Lulu what’s bothering you? You’ve barely touched your breakfast.’ Said Celestia while having breakfast with Luna in the dining hall.
Luna just sat there staring at the omelette that the royal chefs had cooked for her.
‘I’m fine Tia, honest.’ She replied.
Celestia could always tell when Luna was lying; it was like a sixth sense. Her curiosity overcame her sisters need for privacy.
‘Please lulu I know when you’re lying.’ She said with an understanding smile on her face.
Luna's mind raced.
’Should I tell her? Does she need to know?’ she thought.
‘Of course she does she’s your sister. You need advice and she can give it.’ Her subconscious replied.
‘Tia don’t be mad at me…’
Celestia's smile vanished.
‘But I…’ Luna looked down back to her now cold omelette.
‘What is it lulu?’ Celestia said now concerned for her sister.
Luna looked up back to her sister’s face.
‘IkissedPatholisbecausehelookscuteandIthinkImightbeinlovewithhim!’ Luna shouted, shocking both Celestia and the guards posted in the room.
Celestia took a good three seconds to fathom what Luna had just said.
‘I need to tell him.’ Thought Luna, as she walked out into one of the many courtyards in Canterlot castle.
‘But where is he?’ Luna said to nopony in particular.
She got her answer, in the form of a grey alicorn falling from the fly.
Her pupils widened so she could get a better view.
Luna ran with all her strength towards where he who land, barging past some servants.
Not even apologizing, she willed her magic to her horn, covering it in a dark blue aura. Still running her magic extended like a hand ready to catch Patholis.
The large blue hand reached out to the grey comet. Luna didn’t expect his weight and only managed to slow his decent.
Four seconds past, to Luna they felt like years.
She jumped forward with extended fore hoofs and caught him in a mid-air hug.
The combination of Patholis’ falling motion and Luna’s ‘catch’ led them to smack on the ground with a…THUMP!
They rolled on the ground for a good ten metres, until they finally came to a halt.
Luna's brain when into over drive, repeating the same command to her arms.
‘HOLD ON! HOLD ON FOR BUCKS SAKE!’
They laid there for one whole minute, Luna refusing to release her ‘prisoner’.
Then Patholis regained conciseness just in time for Luna to lessen her grip.
He removed his head from Luna’s neck, which she had buried into her mane when she grabbed him. He looked into her blue eyes.
‘Luna, as much as I would like this to continue for my life, I just fell from the tallest tower in canterlot castle.’
‘Oh sorry.’ With that she let him go.
They stood there, while silence hung in the air.
Patholis opened his mouth to speak but a scream of pain was all he could muster.
‘AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGG!’
His body had just remembered that he just fell from the tallest tower in canterlot castle.
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter: 10 Introductioning
Chapter: 10 Introductioning
Shortly after the last changelings where removed from Canterlot, the wedding continued as planned.
Celestia decided to hold an informal dinner to introduce Patholis to Twilight and her friends.
The nine ponies sat around a low table, on which where silver plates covered with delicious food. Patholis was never a stranger to equestrian food, having come to terms with the whole no meat thing.
He had 1800 years of catching up to do, yet after discovering someone else had 1000 years also.
Patholis held his head low, struggling to take in this new piece of information.
‘…1000 years.’ Patholis said louder than he wanted.
All talk stopped and everypony faced him.
Patholis faced Celestia; his face spoke ‘how could you?’
Celestia could only bow her head in shame.
‘How could you banish your own sister for 1000 years?’
Celestia opened her mouth to speak but was cut off by Luna, who had strategically sat between Patholis and Celestia.
‘She did it because I was being controlled by nightmare moon. She had no choice.’
‘…b-but why didn’t you summon me? I could have helped.’
‘You think I didn’t try, you never came.’
Patholis could only feel ashamed having failed Celestia.
‘I’m sorry Tia. It’s just the thing about discord as well I swear I ended him.’
‘You don’t need to apologise. It was me who forced you into your dreamscape in the first place.’
‘I’m still yet to forgive you about that sister. Path and I have a lot of catching up to do.’ Said Luna.
With that Patholis and Luna nuzzled each other while failing to suppress a round of giggles.
‘Ahem!’ said Celestia trying to keep this fic Teen.
Dinner continued without incident, Twilight asked Patholis more questions concerning the daemonic.
‘So how long do daemons live for?’ Twilight asked her thirst for knowledge ever present.
‘Well… forever. We’re born then well live to the end of time.’ He said with a tone more philosophical than he thought he could ever achieve.
‘Oh so how does your society cope with overcrowding? And how does your government rule such a massive population?’
‘I think I can answer your questions at the same time. The daemondom exists over several planes of existence. So there is plenty of room and easily manageable population. ‘
‘Oh, is it that simple. So what about that sword of yours?’
At the mention of his sword Patholis’ came to realisation. Celestia having noticed this…
‘It’s your room.’ Celestia said calmly.
‘Thanks.’ Patholis turned to Twilight, who was sitting opposite him.
‘It’s made of a special rock called larthorlite. It’s used to store magical energy…’
Twilight cut him off, her studious nature out in full.
‘Really? It could be used to revolutionise modern magical understanding.’
‘Err… no, sorry it’s empty, I used its power long ago. When I first came to Equestria.’ He said while tapping a hoof on his chin.
‘What did you use it for?’ Asked Luna, who had taken time out hiding her face in Patholis’ mane to speak.
‘Well to turn a lump of rock into a sword and to make me an alicorn.’
All the ponies in the room gave Patholis a stare.
‘What? If I didn’t you,’ Patholis pointed to Celestia.’ Would have not accepted my offer.’
‘So ya really look like dem daemons in ol’ books.’ Said the ever southern accented Applejack.
‘Yeah but they give us daemons a bad image. The whole apocalypse thing.’
His response was a collective ‘Ah’ from the ponies.
This went until the closing stages of the dinner. Patholis would usually find this boring but the young mare’s enthusiasm at, to him, mundane subjects felt new. When he was here last time only Luna and Celestia were interested in the daemonic.
‘Well everypony I think it’s time to get to bed, and don’t worry I’ve already had rooms prepared for you all.’ Celestia said while gesturing to Twilight and her friends with a hoof.
With the ponies on their way to their room’s Celestia turned to face Patholis and Luna.
‘I assume you will share Luna's quarters.’
‘You sure? What about…’ Patholis said before being cut off by Celestia.
‘Use a spell.’ Celestia replied unable to hide her annoyance. She turned and with a trot made for her quarters.
‘Good night Tia.’ Patholis and Luna said in unison, causing another round a giggles.
‘Come on I want to show to show you something.’
After following Luna halfway across the castle, Patholis found himself and Luna kissing passionately on the balcony
outside Luna's room.
They pulled away but still had each other’s hoofs around the others neck.
‘Patholis there’s something I wanted to tell you.’ Said Luna while looking at the floor.
‘What is it?’
‘This, my love.’ Luna said while pointing a hoof at the cloud filled sky.
‘Wow it’s so beaut….’ Patholis said sarcastically before his jaw hit the floor.
The sky had being cleared of clouds.
And in their place where a full moon, reflecting light on Patholis and Luna plus Canterlot bellow, and the stars. Which shone greatly in their neat constellations.
‘It’s…it’s beautiful.’ Patholis just as Luna pulls him in for another kiss.
‘I know I am.’
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter:11 Rest and reveals
Chapter:11 Rest and reveals
Patholis passed out in pain yet woke up to pure bliss.
‘Must be the meds.’ he thought.
His vision was blurred yet was coming back to him. He found himself in a large white room. Similar to the room which he spent his first night in, only in size. Everything else was different, the walls where sterile white. His bed was the only piece of ‘normal’ furniture in the room. The rest was probably medical.
Blurred out lines of white shapes came into view, and then disappeared at the appearance of a large blue shape. This blue shape turned out to be none other than Princess Luna. She stood by Patholis’ bed with her head bowed.
Then she spoke.
‘I’m not sure if you can hear me but I have to say something. And I’m not sure if I can tell you if you were awake.’
‘Crap, should I ‘wake up’ or just lay here until she realises.’
‘Last night when I kissed you, I did it on an impulse. I regretted it; I thought that you would think me desperate. Kissing somepony after knowing them for a day. But it’s almost like I’ve know you for years.
‘Time to tell her.’ Patholis thought.
Patholis opened his eyes, shifted up to be on eye level with Luna. The expected expression of surprise, embarrassment on Luna's face did not surface.
Patholis extended a hoof to Luna, their hoof meeting when she did the same.
‘Luna it would be an honour, pleasure and an adventure for me to get to know you for years.’
Luna's expression changed from one of confusion to a mix of delight, joy and happiness.
Despite the cheesy nature of his previous sentence it seemed to have worked when Luna pulled him in for a long hug.
Having discharging himself from the royal infirmary, Patholis joined Luna in wandering around the castle. Talking about random topic of each other’s life. Walking a little closer than usual.
They decided to have lunch in one the cafes in Canterlot city. Its owner was ecstatic to have Princess Luna visit his café, but gave worried glances to Patholis.
They sat outside, under the shade of a red parasol.
Patholis took a good long look at the menu.
‘Ponies eat flowers?’
‘Yes but not me I’m on a diet.’
Patholis gave Luna a bland look.
‘So…no meat?’
‘Yeah, but this hayburger looks like meat.’
Patholis’ bland expression was replaced with a laugh, which Luna returned.
After ordering, attracting a lot of stares from the rest of the café, Patholis and Luna, minus her princess etiquette, dug into their food
.
‘So path,’ Luna was cut off by Patholis’ confused face. ‘Oh stop that it sounds cute. Anyway where are you from?’
‘Hell.’
‘Really? Hell with Satan and,’
‘I was joking.’
‘Oh.’
‘I’m from a place called the daemondom. It isn’t a place but rather a title. Somewhere can be part of it but there is no one place called the daemondom.’
‘So who is the king daemon?’
‘My old mentor but unlike the title suggests he’s not the king of ‘all’ daemons.’
‘Yeah, I remember reading about that. Isn’t it some kind of caste system?’
‘Yes. There are many castes, each living in its own part of the daemondom. Each caste, dimension, has its own king, leader, emperor or generalissimo.’
‘So what about this dimension?’
‘This one is different, it is protected.’
‘By who?’
‘What?’
‘Eh?’
‘Not who it’s what. No one is protecting this dimension. Something is.’
‘What is it? Some kind of artefact?’
‘Dunno,’ he said with a shrug of his shoulders.
‘You’re helpful.’ Luna said sarcasm levels over 9000.
They ate their food and left, after paying of course. They walked through the city, Patholis attracting a few more looks than Luna.
‘Why do they stare?’
‘There’s something in your mane.’
‘Really? Where?’
‘Nowhere,’ Luna said before a small giggle. ‘They stare because there’s only supposed to be two alicorns in the world.’ Luna said in a more grim tone than usual.
‘Why? Why only two?’
‘We’re both female… and sisters.’
‘Ah. But still I don’t like people staring at me.’
‘They’ll get used to you in time. We could do an official announcement?’
‘Prince Patholis certainly has a ring to it.’ Patholis said while nudging Luna.
‘Not like that, I…err…I mean you know, if you want to?’ said Luna, blushing, quieter than normal.
‘I’m only teasing… lulu.’ With that Luna's face turned bright red, mismatching horribly with her dark blue coat.
Having nearly spent the whole day wandering around the city, Patholis and Luna returned to the castle.
Where a certain white alicorn was waiting impatiently.
‘Where have you two been all day?’
‘Out.’ Luna said matter of factly.
‘Good night Pathlu.’
Patholis and Luna, having ignored Celestia's comment, went to bed.
‘Separate rooms!’ shouted Celestia.
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter: 12 Examination
The day after the wedding Twilight insisted on performing an examination on Patholis. Having ignored Patholis after he said that nothing was wrong, Twilight said her examination would be purely for research.
Soon Patholis found himself standing on a stone plinth, in what could only be described as a ‘big dark room. He was surrounded by recording equipment. They beeped at regular intervals and emitted a low humming sound.
‘What do any of these do?’ said Patholis pointing a hoof at one of the machines.
‘Err… magic?’ said Twilight, from behind the reinforced glass of the observation room.
He let it drop as a slight tingling sensation could be felt in his hoofs. Twilight had assured him that the examination would take five seconds. And was completely painless… for the first four seconds.
‘So… When will this start?’
‘About three seconds ago.’
‘Oh buck.’ Was what Patholis would have said if at that moment he wasn’t enveloped by white light and pain. Patholis’ body performed perfectly, he passed out.
His eye sight was fussy but he could see blurred out lines. His ears were ringing but he could hear muffled sounds, which he assumed was someone taking.
A pair of blue hoofs connected, to forelegs, reached out to him. The blurriness dissipated the ringing subsided.
Sometime between passing out and waking up Luna had come into the room.
For the first time in years (13 hours) Patholis got a good look at his marefriend.
Her perfect face, coat, mane and tail.
‘That actually sums her up, she’s perfect.’ Patholis thought.
She stood over him, clear concern and worry carved into her face.
Her mouth moved but instead of her usual angelic tones, her beautiful voice had been replaced with muffled distorted sound.
Her lips moved again and more muffled speech came out.
‘Have I ever told her she’s petty?’ Thought Patholis as his brain came back online.
His vision normalised, his hearing was yet to get the memo from his brain.
Her mouth moved again.
‘Did I ever tell her how much I missed her?’ Patholis felt his voice returning to him.
The ringing ended.
‘Patholis? Can you hear me?’
‘You’re petty.’ Said Patholis coming out of his daze.
Luna’s concerned, worried face transformed into one of confusion.
‘Really? Is that all?’
‘Yeah. You’re very petty. When I was gone I missed you.’
‘Awww. That’s so sweet. Let’s get you up.’ With that Luna’s horn glowed. She didn’t pick Patholis up, just helped his push himself up.
This gave Patholis a second to assess his situation. He was still in the big dark room. But Luna had come in.
Just for a second Patholis could have sworn the shadows in the background had little stars. Which would twinkle ever so slightly.
‘Where is she?’ asked Patholis.
Luna pointed with a hoof to the large glass booth which acted as an observation room.
The mare in question was curled up in the foetal position under a desk.
She sore Patholis enter and tried to occupy as little as space as possible.
The purple mare moved so fast miniature sonic rainbooms could be seen at the end of her mane.
‘I’m soooooooo sorry I hurt you! I wasn’t sure what would happen! I just needed to know what would happen!’
She broke into full crying with dots of sob.
Patholis reached a hoof to stroke Twilights mane away from her eyes. And moved it to rub and comfort her shoulder.
She shudded at his contact.
‘It’s ok Twilight. I’m fine, don’t you-‘Patholis tried to continue but was interrupted by one of the machines as it spewed out waves of paper.
‘So how did the machine know all this? I don’t remember have an interview with it’
‘Magic?’ was Twilights reply who had calmed down after Patholis had promised not to banish her to his old mentor.
‘It is very detailed, and accurate.’ Said Luna, with a sheet of paper held close to her eyes.
‘Oi! Let me have a look.’
The writing on the paper was perfect. There were no mistakes, errors to speak of. It was unnatural, unpony. Everypony made mistakes, but machines didn’t or at least when someponies looking.

Luna’s hoof had convinced the machine to stop spewing out the same information over and over again.
‘So what do we do now?’ asked Luna who had taken her place at Patholis’ side.
‘I don’t know about you but I’m hungry.’
‘Oh, well I think the chiefs could get us something?’
‘Well err I thought we could go out. Like that café we went to last time.’
‘That café will be dust by now, but I’m sure we could find somewhere.’
‘I’ll just look over these results.’ Said Twilight without looking.
The two alicorns left the unicorn to her results. Both starting to get small hunger pangs felt in their stomachs.
They reached the main doors of Canterlot castle. Patholis prepared his magic to open them. With greater difficultly than he can remember.
‘What is it?’ asked Luna concerned.
‘Their heavier.’ Patholis said with one hoof pointing at the massive doors.
‘Must be some new security measures, I suppose.’
They walked down the stone road path down to the edge of the castle grounds.
Patholis noted in his mind that the moon was up.
‘10ish?’ he guessed in his mind. He turned to Luna.
‘How long was I out for?’
‘About six hours. Apparently after two she…she,’ Luna stopped both speaking and walking.
‘She what?’
‘Path look.’ At the Patholis turned around to see a horde of journalist ponies crowed at the end of the road. Where the castle grounds ended.
Then a wall of noise, in the form of questions, came at the two.
‘Princess we do you have to say on the recent Luna disturbances?’
‘Luna who is your new coltfriend?’
‘Is he going to be a new prince?’
Luna quickly took it upon herself to teleport her and Patholis away. About five metres away, behind a tree.
‘What now?’ Patholis asked Luna.
‘Hmmm… I got it.’ With that Luna's horn started to glow.
Her form started to change. Similar to when she was first released from nightmare moons control, yet she lacked a horn.
All that happened to Patholis was is wings sank into his body, and he got a lot shorter.
‘Call me midnight shine.’ Said Luna.
‘Call me Patholis?’ said Patholis.
Midnight opened her mouth but was interrupted but a pair of grey lips.
‘let’s just go.’ Said Patholis.
magic=I don't know
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter:13 Names are magic
Chapter: 13 Names are magic
Two weeks have passed since Patholis arrived in Equestria. In those two weeks he slew many wild beasts which roamed out of the new forest to the west, the everfree.
He had also gotten used to referring to Luna as his marefriend, in his mind of course. Yet when he asked Luna out on a date she couldn’t have been happier.
The two alicorns sat in their favour café. Gaining a few stares from staff and customer alike.
‘You know we never did that formal announcement.’ Said the daemons marefriend.
‘Do we need one? I mean I don’t really like being the centre of attention.’
‘Prefer to stay on the side lines?’ Luna said with a giggle.
‘Would that be a problem?’ Patholis replied in a slightly suggestive tone.
‘No, sometimes I feel uncomfortable in night court with all those ponies staring at me. Thinking that I have all the answers.’ Luna said looking down.
Patholis, with a hoof, pushed Luna's chin so they were eye to eye.
‘Don’t worry lulu; I don’t think you have all the answers.’
‘You jerk.’ Said Luna as she pushed him away with her hoof.
‘But seriously, are we going to go on one of the balconies and shout, ‘Attention Canterlot here be Patholis, my coltfriend’.’
Said Patholis in his most royal voice he could muster.
‘No, no. But come to think of it Patholis is a fairly unusual name for Equestria.’
‘Hey, are you dissing my name?’ Patholis said, not out of annoyance but playfulness (?)
A quick shake of Luna's head was Patholis’ answer.
‘Good I chose it myself.’
‘Really, you chose your own name?’ said Luna fascinated.
‘Yeah, after several literal translations in several daemon languages, it means honourable.’
‘Wait, so why did you choose your name? Why not your parents?’
‘Well to answer that would lead us to the interesting conversation on daemon names.’ Patholis said; obvious annoyance in his voice. Boring subject is boring.
‘What’s wrong? Is it something I said?’ Luna said now worried.
‘No, no it’s just that… daemon names are kind of personal.’
‘Oh, well if you don’t want to talk about it, you don’t have to.’ Luna said, understandingly.
‘It’s fine but could we go somewhere more private?’
‘Sure.’ She said.
The couple finished their meal and put the bill on Celestia’s tab. They walked to Canterlot Park. After finding a bench which didn’t have a drunk on it, it was late; they sat. Bodies touching to share heat in the cold of the night.
Luna’s moon out in full.
‘You did a good job tonight.’ Patholis said while putting a hoof around Luna for a hug.
‘Eh?’ was Luna's confused reply.
‘The moon Luna, it looks beautiful.’
‘Oh, thanks.’
Patholis released Luna from his love hold. He turned to face her, their nuzzles brushing slightly. Luna took this as an invitation and pushed forward for a kiss.
But wasn’t met halfway. She looked up into Patholis’ eyes.
‘Wha…?’
‘I’m sorry Luna but this is kinda important.’
‘Sorry.’
Patholis breathed in and then out to prepare himself for a most tedious of conversations.
‘So… every daemon has two names. They have a mortal name and a spirit name. My parents gave me my first mortal name when I was born.’
‘What’s…?’ Patholis cut off Luna before she could finish her question.
‘I can’t tell you.’
‘Oh, why?’
‘For me to tell you my mortal name would be a sign of great trust. I could only tell you if we were… married. Which is a shame because it is quite exotic.’
‘Oh you tease.’ Luna said while poking Patholis in the ribs.
‘So what about your spirit name?’ the blue mare asked.
‘My spirit name is Patholis. It binds my mortal name, so I can tell it to people trust or… love.’ He said his vision deep in Luna’s dark blue pools.
‘Do you trust me?’ Luna said genuinely wanting an answer.
‘That question is for another night. Anyway the thing is my mortal name is my only connection to being mortal. So if someone were to learn it and I not trust them, if they say it, it would… kill me.’ Patholis said while looking down.
Now it was Luna’s turn to use her hoof to push Patholis face so they looked into each other’s eyes.
‘Listen path, the day you decide whether you trust me or not. I want you to know that I love you.’ Said Luna, while bringing Patholis in for a kiss.
‘I love you’ is a phrase Patholis was yet to get used to. But that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t like it. The question lingered in his mind. He asked himself in his mind.
‘Do I want to spend an eternity with this mare?’
‘Of Course you do!’
They went back to the castle, going through the ‘fun way’ as Luna described it. This ‘fun way’ turned out to be the window to her bedroom.
After closing the window Luna vaulted onto her bed. Lust and wanting over taking her princess-y mask.
She pulled Patholis over to her with her magic.
Patholis whispered into Luna's ear.
‘I do trust you, so very, very much.’
Patholis awoke to the sound of a snoring blue alicorn, her face deep in his neck. It was still dark out of the window.
‘Around 3ish?’ he guessed in his mind.
Carefully he got out of bed. Trying his best not to wake Luna.
He stood by the window, looking out at Canterlot.
He willed magic to his horn and using a teleportation spell. Shadow blade appeared before him with a puff of magic.
‘Forgive me.’ He whispered.
With that, using telekinesis snapped off the cross-guards. Forming the bits into the shape of two rings.
He willed them to his room, under his bed.
And re-joined Luna in bed.
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
Chapter: 4 Three alicorns
The throne room of Canterlot castle was big but it only about fits the 500 plus guards, which usually are stationed in and around the castle. They all stood at attention looking at princess Celestia at the throne end of the room. They were all ready to be told that their job was the most important In Equestria and it is an honour to serve their princess. This will be the same speech which Celestia gives every time someone misses role call or forgets duty.
But this time no one has done anything wrong this week. That is what has all the guards on edge.
‘I have all gathered you here for an important announcement.’ Said Celestia as the guards in the room released their breath as the usual speech was off for today.
‘I want you to report any suspicious activity, person and/or occurrence. Anyone who reports anything of this nature and it turns out to be true will get six months double paid leave.’ There was no response from the guard. They knew not to cheer with joy during one of the princess speeches.
‘You are all dismissed.’ After this was said row after row of guards marched out of the throne room. Each going to his station or attending to his duties.
The throne room was empty accept for Celestia and Luna who was walking for behind towards her sister.
‘Are you sure you’re not taking this too seriously?’ said Luna with a hint of worry in her voice.
‘Listen Luna I really think something is up. Anyway I would have done this if I had felt something unusual or not.’ Celestia’s eyes looked up to the stained glass windows of the throne room.
‘Why is that? Has something happened?’ Luna asked as her concern for her sister grew.
Celestia let out a sign and turned to face her sister.
‘There has been another threat made by the draconequus.’ Celestia said with one tear falling down her face. Luna looked
at her sister’s face and felt her pain. The draconequus is a vile creature which desires to spread chaos.
‘Discord.’
The inside of the city was busy, Patholis looked around but the pony population of this world didn’t find it rude to stare.
They just stopped whatever they were doing and looked at him. Had they never seen an alicorn before? Was there something about them that made the ponies here stare?
There seemed to be three mane types of pony here. Regular ponies, winged Pegasi and horned unicorns. It could be that alicorns are a rare site or unusual.
Keep to yourself; you’ve done nothing wrong to these people. Patholis thought in his mind as two guards started to walk towards him. Oh crap it’s the fuss.
‘You sir are to come with us.’ The guards spoke in unison and with an authoritive tone.
Patholis did not resist and made no comment to the guards. He simply walked with them, they walked at his side guiding him towards the huge castle at the end of the city walls.
It was an impressive site, but nothing compared to massive fortress only a day ago Patholis called home. Towers of white stone rose up but one caught his eye, at the top of the tower was a figure.
A alicorn, blue with sparkling hair, female thought Patholis as the guard continued to lead him inside the castle. Then she spotted him, her face that of confusion.
With a flap of her wings she flew from the tower to a keep of some sort.
Could that be one of the alicorns which rule this world?
The captain of the royal guard had only just got the news but it was still ringing in his head. An alicorn was spotted entering Canterlot at noon. All the guards were put on high alert. But when two idiots went to ‘bring’ in the new comer it showed no resistance.
Captain bolt of the royal guard was nearly running to the throne room to deliver his news to the Princesses.
He walked towards the huge doors of the throne room. Two of his guards stood at attention either side of the doors. They only gave him a small nod and then using the magic of their horns they opened the doors to the throne room.
There they were the two alicorns which captain bolt will serve unit he can no longer do so. He had gotten used to being in their presence and had his mind on the matter at hand. The Princesses were in conversation with each other, not wanting to interrupt the captain waited until a gap appeared.
‘Listen Tia I know what I saw.’
‘Is that it an alicorn? Lulu please your jokes are getting sadder by the hour.’
‘Listen I…’ she was cut off by her sister who just noticed the captain standing looking at them.
‘Captain bolt what is it?’
The captain was caught by surprise by the mention of his name.
‘Err…Princess you told us to report any suspicious persons in the city?’
‘Yes I did not an hour ago. What have you found something?’
‘Not something, someone your majesty.’
‘Who is it? Where did you find it?’ said Luna eager for answers.
‘Let me show you. Bring him in!’ the captain call back to the doors which opened to reveal three figures. The two at the
side’s clearly royal guard but the one in the middle was difficult to work out.
‘I told you.’ Said Luna with a smug tone as the person was a grey haired alicorn.
He was about the same height as Celestia and had a cutie mark which resembled a mix between Luna’s and Celestia’s on a shield.
‘Look at his cutie mark sister. It’s like ours combined.’ Said Luna but Celestia gave no response, she was still amazed by this site.
She and her sister were supposed to be the only two alicorns in the world.
The alicorn was being lead closer towards the princesses. He looked at the princesses with a sense of achievement on his face.
‘That’s close enough.’ Said Celestia, while waving her hoof at the guards.
‘We found him walking in the city, he seemed lost.’ One guard said.
Celestia realising the severity of the situation took action.
‘Leave us.’ She said while nodding at captain bolt in a manner which suggested ‘’Don’t worry he’s no enemy.’’
The guards in the room, including captain bolt, left the room in a quick march.
Now only three alicorns remained in the throne room.
The daemon, Protector of Equestria.
