Richard and Rarity
Chapter 4
Previous ChapterNext ChapterA month has passed since Rarity went missing from Equestria…
Twilight finished repairing the mirror, but so far she has only been able to contact Sunset.
“I’m sorry Princess, the only Rarity here, is our own, but I will keep looking,” Sunset said looking in her magic book.
“I don’t understand, she has to be somewhere,” Twilight said sound frustrated looking down into her magic book.
“Maybe she is in another world, Princess Celestia told me that she use to visit different worlds with the mirror before Star Swirl put a spell on it,” Sunset explained thinking back.
“Why would he do that?” Twilight asked, looking at the mirror.
“Well, he may have been worried that she could get lost in another world or he just did it to annoy her, this is Star Swirl we are talking about after all,” Sunset said and brushed her long yellow-red hair back.
“What if I rearrange the crystals on the mirror frame , would it connect to another world?,” Twilight said and started writing some notes down on paper.
“Careful Twilight, I don’t want you to get lost like your friend, and please remember the sequence, I would like to be able to visit Equestria again,” Sunset said concerned.
It was now November and the days were getting colder. Richard wearing a coat while he stood on a ladder, scooping up dead leaves from the eavestrough before things started to freeze up.
“Look out below!” He called out, tossing a clump of wet mushy leaves and dirt.
“Yuck, careful Richard, You almost got some on my me,” Pearl said stepping back.
The lawn rake glowed a gentle blue as it raked up leaves into a nice large pile. Pearl was wearing a red scarf out that she made from an old sweater. Also, her fur has also thickened as the days got cold.
Since the incident, last month at a lot of things has changed in the house and between Richard and Pearl. She was now being treated like a roommate with some general rules. Pearl still needed to be careful when going outside, but the backyard was fine, most of the time since it was surrounded by a high wooden fence. Her living arrangements also changed from a couch in the basement to a bedroom with a double bed on the main level. The basement was transformed into a tailor shop with a sewing machine for Pearl. Richard created an online store and called the fashion line ‘Unicorn Delight’ To his surprise orders starting coming in and Pearl became a very busy pony.
“Want to trade places?” Richard said, tossing another clump of leaves.
“I would need a pair of wings like Rainbow Dash,” She said, scooping up leaves with her magic and dumping them into a yard bag.
“Who’s Rainbow Dash?” He asked as he started to climb down the ladder.
“She’s… my friend!” Pearl answered, sounding excited and dropped the rake.
“Wonderful,” Richard said as he tried to smile back.
She was slowing started to remember things every day. Richard felt that one day she would remember how to get back home and leave. It was a very familiar feeling that he didn’t like. Over the years his friends moved on, next it was his girlfriend who moved away. Not long after that, his family moved back to Canada. To top it all off his wife, then left him. Sure his brother was around, but even then they never hung out.
“Richard?” She called out noticing that he seemed to be lost in thought.
“Sorry Pearl, here, let me help you clean up,” He answered and grabbed the rake.
“So Richard, when are you going to take me to the movies?” Pearl asked him because she was curious after seeing it happen in a TV show.
“If it was the drive thru, I could sneak you in, but the smaller theater is not pony equipped,” He said pointing out the obvious.
“Just like everything else in this world,” Her ears drooped down and she started walking away.
Richard felt bad, walked up to her and gently rubbed along the side of her face. He was starting to understand her more and how to comfort her. His hand scratched behind her ear and her mood seemed to improve.
“This may sound strange, but how long can you stand on your rear legs?” Richard asked.
“I look ridiculous,” She said looking at herself in the mirror standing.
She was wearing a red trench coat with a matching long dress that covered her white legs. Her rear hooves were slipped into black boots. Richard was on his right knee tying up the laces. Pearl wobbled trying to keep her balance.
“It’s not that bad,” He said with a smile and grabbed a hat and placed in on her head covering her horn.
“Pinkie Pie would be rolling on the floor laughing if she saw me,” Pearl said, trying to look serious but she smiled thinking about it.
“Another one of your friends hmm,” Richard slipped a pair of sunglasses over her big blue eyes.
She stumbled backward and fell into Richard's arms and looked up at him as her sunglass tilted on her muzzle.
“Richard, I appreciate your effort, but I’ll be fine if we stay home and watch a movie,” The pony said as she was helped back up.
“What, and miss the real theater experience, I already bought and printed the tickets, so we can avoid the lineup,” He slipped his arm around her and started walking to the garage. “We are going to the late show so it will be dark with less people.” Richard smiled.
“I certainly hope the movie is worth it,” She said trying to walk forward almost tripping a few times.
Is was already past 8pm as Richard drove in the dark using the SUV’s headlights watching the road as he drove to a nearby mall. Pearl was sitting the front passenger side all dressed up. She was feeling a bit dizzy watching the street lights and car lights as they drove past. The pony closed her eyes and then opened them looking at Richard as he easily controlled the vehicle like it was nothing.
“This is the first time you have taken me out,” Pearl said with a gentle smile.
“Well, I, there was the park,” Richard said, remembering when he brought her to an old park that no one used.
“Yes, but this is more like a date,” She said remember something from TV.
“A date!.. Well, you see, it doesn’t have to be called a date, when you take a friend to the movies,” He tried to explain feeling a bead a sweat running down his face.
Pearl starting laughing at his reaction, knowing that the odds of them being anything more than friends was just a silly fantasy.
Not long the SUV pulled into the parking lot and drove around until a nearby parking spot was found. Richard pulled into the spot and put the SUV into park. He switched off the engine and looked over at the entrance and then checked the time on the radio.
“We got about 10 minutes until the movie starts, are you ready?” Richard asked looking over at her.
“Let’s do this, before I change my mind,” Pearl said as she put on her sunglasses with her magic.
He walked to the passenger side and help unfasten the belt and then slowly lowered her to the asphalt. Richard closed the door, then slipped his arm around her.
“Left, right, left, right, yeah that’s it just a bit further,” He said as they approached the doors to the mall. Richard pushed on the handicap button just to make this easier.
They made it into the theater, which was near the doors. Pearl's nose picked up the scent of popcorn and butter. She tried not looking at people directly. but the smell of popcorn was making her mouth water.
“Tickets please,” A theater employee asked.
Richard quickly gave him the tickets holding Pearl’s right arm. The employee glanced over noticing Pearl’s large white nose as he passed half the tickets back.
“num.. Number 5 enjoy the show,” He said trying to get a better look but Richard walked forward.
“She likes to Cosplay,” Richard said with a fake grin and moved quickly.
Another couple approached, catching the attention of the employee and then he shrugged it off getting back to work.
“Richard, what is cosplay?” She asked, looking at him through her sunglasses.
“I’ll explain after the movie,” He said leading her into screen 5.
Her eyes took a moment to adjust to the low light level in the room and she noticed rows of chairs side by side. She stumbled a bit as Richard slowly helped her into an empty row and helped her sit down. Pearl moaned softly, feeling the muscles on her rear legs throbbing. If there was a world record for a pony standing up, she thinks that she must have just broken it. Richard looked around noticing that the room was mostly empty. He removed Pearl sunglasses, revealing her big blue eyes. She blinked and smiled, looked back at him.
“Richard, can you please get me some popcorn?” Pearl asked, still sniffing the delicious aroma.
“Alright, just stay here, I’ll be back,” He said and quickly stood up and walked out of the room.
It felt unusual for her to be left alone in a strange place. She was getting so used to Richard being around always helping that she felt lonely when he wasn’t. Closing her eyes, she tried to remember what life was like before. It felt like she was trying to remember a dream she once had, some of the images were clear and others were not. She faintly heard a voice in her mind. “Rarity, Rarity where are you?” The voice called out and she tried to answer back.
“Twilight?” The pony called out.
“Who’s Twilight?” Richard said as he sat down with a large bag of popcorn and two large sodas.
“Richard!, oh thank goodness, I must have been daydreaming,” Pearl said and quickly noticed the popcorn.
The lights in the theater slowly dimmed and then there was a boom as a music and talking started. The curtain over the screen was pulled open by motors and the screen lit up starting with commercials. Pearl wanted to talk some more, but the music and sound was too loud. She watched on as some of the previews played. Then after about 10 minutes the movie actually started.
Richard glanced over noticing her eyes fixated on the movie. She looked back at him and leaned her head on his shoulder and gently rubbed her cheek. He smiled and reached for some popcorn. Pearl knew that using glowing magic here was a bad idea, so she allowed him to feed her. Richard tried not to giggled, feeling her eating from his hand. The experience was more interesting than the movie itself.
The movie was a mix of sci-fi, romance, and action.
“Alan, my time on this world is coming to end, Soon my kind will come and take me back to my world in the stars.” The leading lady said with green hair and a face with cat features.
“No, you can’t leave me, not after everything we have been through,” The young man said, standing with her under the night sky full of stars and the moon.
They looked at each other holding hands and then kissed. The scene then changed to a large bed and they started to undress.
Richard tried to cover Pearl's eyes, but she kept glancing over interested in learning about the mating habits. The scene didn’t last as it quickly faded to the window showing a falling star.
“They will be here by the next Twilight my love, will you fight for me?” The cat lady's voice said.
She looked at the movie as the moon quickly set and the sun ascended. Memories started flooding back to her. Richard noticed the look on her face, which seemed to change.
“What’s wrong?” He said in a quiet voice.
“My name is Rarity,” She answered.
