Poisoned Equestria

I was called up to Canterlot due to some virus that was putting too many ponies in the hospital, so they called Dr. Whooves and me, up here as we are the most trained doctors in Ponyville, and they couldn't call people from Appleloosa because they were hoping to contain whatever this virus was and it would take too long for anypony from Appleloosa to get here. I decided to spark a conversation with the doctor to pass the time.

"What do you think this virus is," I asked him as he was staring off the side of the carriage. I guess he didn't like heights.

"I don't know, but they said it was bad and that they had no cure for it and they had already lost five patients, I just wonder how it started and how it spreads and if there is any way to stop it," he answered me. He was wearing his scarf like he normally does when he goes anywhere. I was just wearing my nurse's cap.

"Do you think there is a way to stop it," I asked him.

"Well, that's a complicated question, as we have to know this virus exactly, how it started, who was the original carrier, and how quickly it can mutate," he told me with a smile on his face. "Then we have to break down the virus, to keep it from continuously mutating if it can even mutate, then once we break it down we find what makes it tick. If we find what makes it tick then we can use that against it by either changing around the items properties so that way we can kill it or, if it instantly kills it then just set up military checkpoints and give ponies the vaccine."

"Well it looks like we're here," I said as we landed on the roof of the hospital. He opened the door of the carriage and helped me out then he came out. The pegasi that brought us here flew off as soon as we were off. We walked inside of them hospital and the first nurse pony that we met handed us some surgical masks and we put them on quickly. The nurse pony led us to a room that had tons of sick ponies, with their skin decaying and their wings and horns falling off and decaying quickly, even some ponies had already died since we got in the room about a minute ago. I walked up to a young pegasus and started a quick routine check up, which was just heart rate, temperature, and blood level. I tested her heart rate and her rate was about 20 beats a minute, which for a normal healthy heart would be about 80, her temperature was about 40 degrees Fahrenheit, and her blood level was nonexistent. I decided to ask a doctor if they had taken any blood tests yet, and the doctor had said that they couldn't due to Equestrian law, and that they have to have a ponies acceptance, and that none of the ponies could speak, due to rotten tongues or vocal cords. I told him to hand me a needle and that if we didn't take a blood test that the law wasn't going to be the thing to worry about. He handed me a needle and I walked back over to the pony that I was doing tests on. I got back to her but she had sadly passed away. I walked over to the pony that the doctor was working on.

"Have you figured anything out," I asked him as I took a blood sample from the middle-aged pony.

"Well we're dealing with a very bad case of Necrosis, and hypersalivation, I asked the doctors wheeling out a dead pony how many dead they have had so far, and he said the number has gone from 10 to a high 430, in the past hour, I was walking around and a lot of the ponies ear have bite marks on their arms and necks," he told me as we were walking down the hall to find a room where we could do tests on the blood on our own. We came across a room that had a microscope, which was all we really needed, except we wanted to lock the door to get some privacy. I locked the door behind us and took off my nurse's cap and let my pink hair flow as I had always had it in that stupid hat, it didn't even fit anyway. I put some of the blood under the microscope. The viruses and blood cells inside the blood were being eaten by this fungus, which would make this virus a fungus.

"I don't think were dealing with a virus, doc," I told him. He came over and looked at the blood. "What do you think this is, doctor?"

"I've never heard of a fungus that copies the symptoms and abilities of a virus," he said. He was about to check the blood again when we both jumped when we heard a female scream coming from the reception area. We left the room and ran to the reception to see what was happening. When we got there we saw one of the reception clerks, standing on a chair pointing to a mouse. We started to head back to the room we were just in. As we got to the door to the room, we saw a pony slamming into a doctor and biting into his neck, I held in a scream, but some other nurse didn't and screamed out at the top of her lungs and ran down the hall and slammed into us knocking me to the ground. I got back up to see the pony biting into the doctor's neck stopped and started shaking wildly, he vomited on the floor and his spine popped out of his which made the doctor cringe, his hooves broke and turned more into fingers, and his new fingers became sharpened and elongated to about the size of a normal kitchen knife. His teeth became sharper as well, he went back to eating the doctor. We waited to see if he was done mutating, to which he was. The doctor started to open the door but the nurse that had squealed at the mouse walked around the corner and saw the mutated horse, screamed at the horse. The horse turned to see her and growled, he quickly scaled the wall and ceiling, leaving holes all along the walls and ceiling. The doctor pulled me into the room, but when the monster passed I looked out and saw the horse drop on the poor mare and stab his fingers into her. I grabbed the doctor and started to walk the other way. We found a gas pipe and followed it to the closest window, and I think the doctor was starting to get my plan, he opened the window when I turned the pipes valve letting out a lot of gas, I set a fire on some clothes in a room and left the building, and we started running for the castle. I looked back just in time to see the hospital explode and I noticed the head from the mutated horse fly and smash through a window of the castle. The doctor and I stopped walking to catch our breath. I looked back at the burning building and I saw ponies falling off the roof and out the windows of the hospital. I pointed this out to the doctor, and he said that we should continue running. We started to make our way back to Ponyville when I noticed a fire in the center of town.

"What is happening doctor," I asked him.

"I don't know," was his answer.

I sat in my room staring out at the hospital which was bringing in sick ponies every minute. I wanted to do something except I didn't know much about medical practices. I watched the hospital closely that entire night, I was watching Doctors and nurses bringing in sick ponies. I finally got bored of standing and staring out my window, I decided to go to my watchtower and see how things were going in Ponyville. I looked out at Ponyville and noticed a building was burning. I was confused but passed it off as Derpy hitting a light pole. I looked out my telescope and saw Rarity with Sweetie Belle and Applebloom and then another pony that I didn't notice. I went back down my watch tower to go to bed. I made it back to my room when the entire castle shook. I ran over to my window to see that the hospital had lit up in a giant fireball. I looked down to see two ponies that I had noticed  before, the Doctor and Nurse Redheart running away from the hospital. I think they were running here but then they stopped to catch their breath, Redheart pointed at the hospital then they started to run for Ponyville. I looked back at the hospital to see ponies jumping off the roof and out the windows, some on fire some not.

I ran over to my sister's room, but before I got to her room I saw guards standing outside, visibly shaken. I told them to open the door but they protested. I finally just opened the door myself and saw Celestia, eating one of the guards alive. He was screaming for help but no one was going to help him. I closed the door on the scene, and charged out the front door of the castle and flew up to stay out of the reach of the burning horses. I flew quickly over to the Doctor and Redheart. They noticed me and stopped so I could catch up. I landed next to them and cleared my throat.

"Do you know what's going on, Doctor, Redheart," I asked them but they just shook their heads. "Then where are you going?"

"We're going back to Ponyville, to look for survivors," Redheart told me. "Um, how is Celestia?"

"Celestia is one of them," I told them as I pointed back to the burning horses. "So I'm coming with you." They just continued walking down the path to Ponyville, so I caught up and we walked in silence.

"Hey Luna, can you raise the sun," the Doctor asked.

"I can try," I said while giving my best effort to lower the moon and raise the sun, but I finally managed to raise the sun. After this we continued to walk in silence.
