A New Rival

Jake sat at Cheerilee's desk or his and Cheerilee's desk as he was now a full-blown teacher. He was watching Button Mash put up the last math homework problem he assigned the previous night. Cheerilee decided to take a small vacation now that Jake was co-teaching with her. He had been teaching without Cheerilee for nearly a week. It did feel weird to him when Jake first came into the schoolhouse alone with his lesson plan that wasn't made by Cheerilee. But he got used to it as this was his job for the rest of his life here, in Equestria. Well being a teacher and a Pokemon trainer.

Button Mash finished putting the problem up, and Jake nodded as he took up the answer sheet and nodded.

"Great work Button Mash, you got the right answer. Class if you don't have the answer Button Mash has, please copy down the steps he did. All of this will be on the test next week." Said Jake

The students started to record the work. Jake only had Gardevoir with him. But right outside the schoolhouse sat Empoleon. After returning to Ponyville, Empoleon asked Jake not to place him in a Poke Ball. Jake then took him to a day he was working at the school, and the kids seemed to love him. Empoleon sure didn't trust ponies, but he appeared to trust the fillies and colts of the school. So Empoleon stays with Jake at the library, but outside, and goes to the school when Jake does. In a way, Jake now had a robust Pokemon to help him defend the school.

Soon Jake heard the bells ringing meaning that class was over.

"Well, that's class for the week. Remember you all have your math tests next Tuesday, and Mrs. Cheerilee will be back teaching you next Friday but enjoy your weekends." Said Jake

The kids ran out of the schoolhouse ready to once again be free of school for two days. Jake packed up his bag and straightened up the school room before grabbing the Pokemon egg and locking up the library. He waved for Empoleon to follow him as they left to return to the library.

"A made it a full week teaching on your own, master." Said Gardevoir

"Yeah, I sure did." Said Jake

"But you did stumble the first two days if I recall." Said Gardevoir

"I was nervous, give me a break." Said Jake

Gardevoir giggled at her master's comment. Jake rolled his eyes as the trio entered Ponyville market. Jake then stopped as he saw Twilight at a vendor buying up food with both Fraxure and Deino with her. Jake motioned for the crew to follow him as they walked over to Twilight.

"Twilight."

Twilight turned her attention to Jake walking towards her with his Pokemon behind him.

"Afternoon, Jake, finished with teaching for the day." Said Twilight

"That's right." Said Jake

"Well, this makes your first official week as a teacher. How do you feel?" Asked Twilight

"Like a teacher." Said Jake

"Well, I'm glad. Oh, you're still going to the farm tomorrow." Said Twilight

"I wouldn't miss it, considering it's my idea." Said Jake

For the past week, Jake and Applejack finalized the plan for a retreat for the groups Pokemon. Jake came to help Applejack and his friends whenever he could. It would take some time, but it would be worth it in the in the end for a place his and his friends Pokemon could spend time together and stay if they wanted. Plus the library wasn't big enough for Jake and Twilight's Pokemon plus themselves and Spike.

"I'll glad because the library is starting to feel a little cramped." Said Twilight

"A little, I hope to get down by the time Fall comes around." Said Jake

"I forgot Fall is coming into season soon. You'll get to experience your first Fall season here in Equestria." Said Twilight

"Yeah, but it'll probably be like every Fall back on Earth." Commented Jake

Twilight just rolled her eyes as she paid for what she needed and placed it in her saddlebags. Jake stayed with Twilight and talked while they walked through the market. They would stop so Twilight could buy something else, or to get Deino to stop chewing on something, which was often. They were leaving the market when they saw Applejack and Rarity talking, so Jake and Twilight went over to them.

"Girls, what's up?" Asked Twilight

"Oh, Rarity was showin' me these strange stones she dug up today." Said Applejack

"Yes, I go out and dig up precious stones to give my fashion an edge. Well, I was digging and found these strange stones. I tried checking the books I have on stones of Equestria, but they weren't in the book." Said Rarity

"Can I see one of these stones?" Asked Jake

Rarity used her magic to bring over a bag of rocks. She pulled out a stone with a lightning bolt in the middle. Jake held the egg in his right hand as he took the stone in his other hand. He looked over the stone.

"Well, that's interesting." Said Jake

"What?" Asked Twilight

"Well, this happens to be a Thunder Stone. A unique stone that can evolve certain Electric Type Pokemon." Jake bent down and pulled out other stones. "It seems that you found one of every evolution stone."

"Evolution stone." Said Applejack

"You see, Pokemon sometimes have specific ways of evolution. Growlithe is a good example. Haven't you ever wondered why Growlithe hadn't evolved yet to Arcanine." Said Jake

"I have been wonderin' that." Said Applejack

"That's because Growlithe needs a Fire Stone to evolve." Jake pulled out the Fire Stone. A red stone with a fire in the middle and handed it to Applejack. "That's a Fire Stone. Give that to Growlithe, and he'll evolve. But do be mindful, you shouldn't force Pokemon into evolution. You should see if Growlithe wants to evolve because once you give him the stone, there's no going back."

"I will partner, but what other stones are there?" Asked Applejack

"Well, you have the Leaf Stone, Water Stone, Moon Stone, Sun Stone, Dawn Stone, Dusk and Shiny Stone. Plus the two I mentioned before. Each stone given to a specific Pokemon will evolve them and is the only way to evolve them. For example, give an Eevee a Water Stone, you get a Vaporeon. A Thunder Stone, Jolteon and finally a Fire Stone, you get a Flareon." Said Jake

"I didn't think Pokemon could get any more complicated." Said Applejack

"I agree, but why now did I dig them up. I've used the same dig site for years, even with the Diamond Dogs, but I've never seen evolution stones before." Said Rarity

"Maybe it has to do with the appearance of Pokemon on Eques." Said Jake

"Could be, master." Said Gardevoir

"I guess that's a question for Professor Cottonwood." Said Jake

"Well, I wish I could stay and chat, but I have a farm tah take care of, see ya'll." Said Applejack

We waved goodbye to Applejack and Jake told Rarity to keep the evolution stones safe just in case they need them. Rarity agreed and said her farewell before leaving to her shop.

"So it seems our world is somehow adopting to Pokemon living here." Said Twilight

"Could be or one of those two natural meteor showers brought the stones with it. Either it's safe to assume evolution stones now exist in Equestria." Said Jake

Twilight nodded as the two headed back to the library to relax. But soon a voice called out Twilight. A voice Twilight knew all too well. Twilight turned to see a mare coming towards her. The mare had an azure coat with a cornflower mane with cerulean stripes in it. A horn sat on her head, making her a unicorn. The mare's cutie mark was a wand and cap.

"Trixie." Said Twilight

"Who?" Asked Jake

"A unicorn with a talent in magic. I first came in contact with her when she came to Ponyville boasting about her skills. Her boasting nearly got Ponyville destroyed. She later returned with a Dark Alicorn Amulet and challenged me to a magic duel. I lost, but with the powers of my friends, I was able to win. I haven't seen or heard her name ever since that day." Said Twilight

"I wonder why she's back?" Asked Jake

"It's nothing good; I can tell you that." Said Twilight

"It seems Twilight and Trixie have some bad blood between them, master." Said Gardevoir

"That's for sure." Said Jake

"Hello, Twilight Sparkle." Said Trixie

"Trixie, what are you doing here?" Asked Twilight

"What, not even going to say hi." Said Trixie

"Please, every time you come into Ponyville, something bad happens." Said Twilight

"Yes, that is true. But Trixie has turned over a new leaf. Trixie now performs shows in Manehattan." Said Trixie

"Wait, a unicorn performing magic shows." Said Jake

"Yes, magic shows are popular even though ponies see unicorns use magic all the time." Said Twilight

"Plus my cutie mark is in entertaining folks with my magic skills." Said Trixie

"Unless you boast about them." Said Twilight

"Trixie no longer boasts her skills. She uses her skills to entertain the viewing public." Said Trixie

"She sure loves speaking in the third person, master." Said Gardevoir

"You can say that again." Said Jake

"Empoleon."

"Now what do you want, Trixie?" Asked Twilight

"Trixie wishes to battle you, but not in magic, but in Pokemon." Said Trixie

"What, you have Pokemon!?" Asked Twilight

"Don't you remember Twilight." Twilight looked up at Jake. "Remember a few days ago when the headline read that Celestia arrested the leaders of the illegal Pokemon fighting rings. She was now giving ponies a chance to be Pokemon trainers by letting them adopt Pokemon and train them. I suppose that's how Trixie has Pokemon."

"Yes, Trixie was in Canterlot when the princess was holding an adoption fair for new Pokemon trainers. Trixie decided to become a trainer and adopted a few Pokemon. Now, do you accept Trixie's fight." Said Trixie

"Yes, I accept your fight." Said Twilight

"Then I guess I'll referee. But how many Pokemon are we playing first before we get going on the fight?" Said Jake

"Trixie has two, and I see you, Twilight, have two as well. So how about a two-on-two?" Said Trixie

"I'm down with that." Said Twilight

"Ok, now where?" Asked Jake

"Here seems fine with me." Said Twilight

"Trixie has no objections." Said Trixie

"Ok, let's get started then." Twilight turned, and Trixie turned around and walked away to give them a large enough area to fight. Jake walked up to the middle. "Alright, this fight will be between Twilight and Trixie. Each competitor can use two Pokemon each. The battle will end when one sides Pokemon can no longer fight. Now activate your Aura Readers." Twilight and Trixie placed their Aura Readers around their eyes and activated them. "Now battle begin!"

"Deino, you're up first." Said Twilight

Deino ran onto the battlefield.

"Dein, Deino."

"Alright Bergmite, Trixie needs you." Said Trixie

Trixie tossed out an ordinary Poke Ball and out came a Bergmite.

"Bergmite."

Jake pulled his Pokedex from his back pocket. I'm glad I carry this when I go out. Jake activated the Pokedex and pointed it at the Bergmite.

"Bergmite the Ice Chunk Pokemon. It blocks opponents' attacks with the ice that shields its body. It uses cold air to repair any cracks with new ice."

"Master, it seems Twilight is at a disadvantage here." Said Gardevoir

"Yeah, Ice Type Pokemon can deal double damage to Dragon Type Pokemon. Twilight just have to play it smart." Said Jake

Great Trixie just happens to have a Pokemon Type that can deal double the damage to my Deino. But at least I'm not out of using Dragon-Type moves. Ok, just going to have to play it smart. Twilight sighed as she got her mind into the Pokemon battle.

"Trixie will let you, Twilight, go first." Said Trixie

"If you say so, Trixie. Deino start out with Dark Pulse." Said Twilight

A dark energy swelled inside Deino before Deino opened its mouth and released a stream of dark energy. Bergmite stood ready for its orders from Trixie.

"Protect." Said Trixie

Bergmite formed a shield in front of itself and blocked Deino's attack.

"Now Trixie's turn. Bergmite, use Hail." Said Trixie

Bergmite roared as dark clouds formed over the battlefield. Soon it started to snow, but soon hail began to rain down from the sky, striking the group.

"I hate weather moves." Said Jake

"I agree, master." Said Gardevoir

"Empoleon."

Twilight used her magic to place a shield over her, Jake and his Pokemon. Trixie was doing the same.

"Do you like, Trixie's weather?" Asked Trixie

"Hardly." Said Twilight

"Well, you should keep this in mind, Hail damages Pokemon who don't have the Ability, Ice Body. And what do you know, Trixie's Bergmite has such an ability, and it comes with a bonus. Hail now heals my Pokemon instead of hurting it." Said Trixie

"Smart move, Trixie has a way to heal Bergmite and harm Deino at the same time." Said Jake

Twilight watched as Deino's health bar dropped slightly as the chunks of ice hit him. But Twilight couldn't let the weather move Hail stop her. She decided to give her next order to Deino.

"Headbutt." Said Twilight

Deino charged straightforward and struck Bergmite, but Twilight followed it up with another move.

"Follow that up with Crunch." Said Twilight

Deino's teeth turned white as it bit down on Bergmite and shook the Ice Type Pokemon around for tossing Bergmite into the air.

"Now Dragon Pulse." Said Twilight

Deino charged an aqua green sphere inside his mouth before releasing it. The orb went right for Bergmite.

"Counter with Ice Ball." Said Trixie

Bergmite charged a ball of condensed ice and launched it at Dragon Pulse destroying the attack. But Bergmite was still coming to take damage from the fall, or so Twilight thought.

"Bergmite, Avalanche." Said Trixie

Bergmite glowed white before another set of dark clouds appeared, but just over Deino. The chunks of ice fell right down onto Deino, and Bergmite landed on the ice safely and moved his way down from the ice. And much like Twilight, Trixie attacked again while Deino tried to get out from chunks of ice.

"Ice Ball." Said Trixie

Bergmite charged another sphere of condensed ice and launched it at Deino. An explosion followed when the Ice Ball struck the trapped Deino. Deino landed from the smoke next to Twilight heavily damaged. Twilight growled as Deino struggled to stand on his feet. But Deino fell back down as chunks of ice from the move Hail hit him causing the last of his health to disappear. Jake stepped forward to announce the end.

"Deino is unable to battle. The first round goes to Trixie and Bergmite." Said Jake

"Trixie is proud of you, Bergmite." Said Trixie

"Berg, Bergmite."

Twilight walked forward and stroked Deino as he got back to his feet. She walked him over and looked to Fraxure. The two nodded, and Fraxure took center stage.

"Next round, start!" Said Jake

The move Hail once again flared as it struck Fraxure and healed Bergmite.

"Fraxure show Trixie all our hard training. Giga Impact." Said Twilight

Fraxure roared as an orange energy surrounded him as he made a break for Bergmite. Soon the orange energy turned into purple energy with swirling orange energy around it. Fraxure also started to gain speed.

"Ice Ball." Said Trixie

Bergmite charged yet another ball of ice and sent it flying. It struck Fraxure, but it didn't do any damage to Fraxure and Fraxure was able to land Giga Impact against Bergmite. Bergmite went flying and landed in front of Trixie, but could no longer fight. With Bergmite out of commission, the move Hail disappeared, and the sun reappeared over the battlefield. Jake once again stepped forward.

"Round over, the winner is Twilight and Fraxure." Said Jake

"Frax, Fraxure."

Trixie used her magic to levitate up Bergmite's Poke Ball. She used it to return Bergmite.

"Trixie is proud of you, Bergmite. You take a rest now." Trixie placed the Poke Ball away and pulled out a second Poke Ball. "Trixie needs you, Vanillish."

Trixie tossed the Poke Ball and out came Vanillish.

"Vanillish."

Jake pulled out his Pokedex again and pointed at Vanillish.

"Vanillish the Icy Snow Pokemon. They cool down the surrounding air and create ice particles, which they use to freeze their foes."

"So Trixie is using all Ice Type Pokemon." Said Jake

"Vanillish use Blizzard." Said Trixie

Vanillish inhaled air before blowing out chunks of snow and cold air. Fraxure stood his ground as the snow and cold air passed over him. Twilight raised her hoof as she watched as Fraxure's health fell from the attack.

"Fraxure, attack with Dragon Claw." Said Twilight

Fraxure roared as his claws grew into large green claws. Fraxure ran at Vanillish and leaped into the air to strike Vanillish.

"Use Ice Beam." Said Trixie

The air around Vanillish froze, and soon Vanillish sent out a beam of ice. Fraxure saw the beam coming towards him and used his claws to block the attack. When the Ice Beam hit the Dragon Claw, an explosion followed that sent Fraxure into the ground, but Fraxure wasn't done yet as he got up from the dirt and roared.

"You ok, Fraxure?" Asked Twilight

"Fraxure."

"Great, then let's continue this fight." Said Twilight

"Vanillish Ice Beam again." Said Trixie

The air around Vanillish's face froze, and soon another beam of ice shot out at Fraxure.

"Fraxure counter with Dragon Rage." Said Twilight

A blue energy glowed inside of Fraxure before he released a set of blue fire. The two attacks met in the middle of the battlefield. Twilight and Trixie's Pokemon were pushing everything that had into their moves.

"Give it everything, Vanillish." Said Trixie

"Show no mercy, Fraxure." Said Twilight

The two Pokemon listened to their trainers and began to push more energy into corresponding moves. But Fraxure's Dragon Rage was losing out to Vanillish's Ice Beam. Soon Ice Beam pushed right past Fraxure's Dragon Rage and hit Fraxure. An explosion followed and once the dust cleared Twilight saw her Fraxure, encased in a block of ice.

"What?!" Exclaimed Twilight

"That's a lucky shot; Ice Beam has a low chance of freezing the target." Said Jake

"Yes, Trixie now has the upper hand. Let's wrap it up, Vanillish, use Avalanche." Said Trixie

Vanillish glowed white as a set of clouds formed over the frozen Fraxure. Soon chunks of ice fell all over Fraxure. Avalanche kicked up dust as the chunks of ice fell to the ground. But once everything settled, Fraxure sat on the ground with swirls in his eyes.

"The round is over as Fraxure can no longer continue to fight. And since Twilight has no more usable Pokemon, the battle goes to Trixie and her Vanillish." Said Jake

"Yes, Trixie won." Said Trixie

"Van, Vanillish, Van."

Twilight sighed as she shut off her Aura Reader and walked up to her recovering Fraxure.

"Thank you, Fraxure, you did great out there." Said Twilight

"Fraxure."

Trixie returned her Vanillish and walked up to Twilight and reached out her hoof.

"Thank you, Twilight for such a fun battle. Trixie knows she did terrible things in her past, but Trixie is working on turning over a new leaf." Said Trixie

Twilight sighed as she reached out her hoof and bumped Trixie's hoof, "I guess it was a fun battle."

"Goodluck Trixie with training your Pokemon." Said Jake

"Thank you, Jake, Trixie will strive to become the best Pokemon trainer that Equestria will see. You wait and see Twilight Sparkle, Trixie will make it big." Said Trixie

Trixie tossed down a smoke bomb and disappeared, but in the horizon, Jake and Twilight watched as she galloped away.

"Some things never change with that mare." Said Twilight

"I bet." Said Jake

Soon Jake felt the egg in hands starting to shack. Twilight heard it as well as the two watched as Jake's Pokemon egg began to hatch. Soon it popped open, and Jake was holding his new Pokemon, a Popplio.

"Pop, Popplio."

"So my Pokemon egg finally hatches and outcomes a Popplio." Said Jake

Popplio turned to Jake's voice and looked up at the human. He smiled at his newest Pokemon.

"Hi there, Popplio." Said Jake

"Popplio."

Twilight pulled out Jake's Pokedex and pointed it at Popplio.

"Popplio the Sea Lion Pokemon. This Pokémon snorts body fluids from its nose, blowing balloons to smash into its foes. It's famous for being a hard worker."

"Seems like such a cute Pokemon." Said Twilight

"Yeah, now I think we should go see Fluttershy. I need her to check over Popplio, and you could have her look over Deino and Fraxure." Said Jake

"Yeah." Said Twilight

The began to walk out to Fluttershy's cottage when Jake realized something about Trixie.

"Say Twilight." Twilight looked up at Jake, "It seems to me that Trixie might be your first Pokemon trainer rival."

Twilight tapped her chin, "I guess so."

Poke Eques is back baby! It wasn't hard to finish this chapter when I had most of it done. So I decided to bring in one of my favorite ponies, Trixie Lulamoon. Twilight just can't go through her life without running into Trixie. So I hope you enjoyed Trixie's appearance and battle with Twilight. And you can expect to see her throughout the series.
